Went in to try to get an oil change and state inspection. Front desk was unmanned and deserted, waited 15 minutes and no one came out. Workers in the actual shop working on cars saw me and didn't attempt to say anything. No sign stating it was a lunch break or anything (this was around 2pm). Terrible.

My experience was pleasant, as usual. Everyone was knowledgable and gave me the information i needed to make clear decision. The only thing that was different was the cleanliness of the waiting area. There were crumbs on the floor and carpet as well as dust " bunnies" that indicate that cleaning had not taken please for several days. Again the service on my car was great. Thank you.

I went here today to have my car inspected. I expected a pretty long wait but they got my car pulled in within like 5 minutes. Everybody was super nice and friendly and the inspector even came out to personally tell me my car passed. The manager even took care of the cost of my inspection. Came in for a state inspection and my brakes were squealing like mad. They did the rear shoes and a wheel cylinder for a fair price and I got a fresh inspection sticker. Only downfall was they took a while to get the job done, I was there for 4+ hours, but it was the last day of the month so they were busy and were turning people away by noon.

I recently had a couple thousand dollars worth of work done at Tuffy after my vehicle was in an accident. My insurance company gave me a difficult time and I was without a vehicle for about a month. Tuffy was very patient and even followed me in my vehicle to get an estimate done at one of my insurance collision centers. I would definitely recommend Tuffy to anyone who needs work done on their vehicle because they are very reliable and honest! Both Andrew and Jose are also very professional and respectful to customers. I only wish more companies valued professionalism such as them.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. Don't trust the reviews. Come in for basic work and they will send a text to you requesting a google review. They sent me one even after I left being very upset. I'm guessing most of these reviews are for oil changes and inspections. Long story short, these guys are a total rip off and completely dishonest. I would get a different version of "truth" from the employee than I would from the manager, Jose, who was a total jerk and obviously tried to hide things from me. I paid $1,000 for work on my car only to leave the shop 3 separate times with new issues I never had before. So many excuses, it's unreal. Issues they didn't even want to explain until I caught them. My car was making an awful noise after I got it from them. Come to find out it was missing a part, which they ended up finding on the floor the next day. The new parts they got had "issues." They broke my oil cap as well and didn't bother telling me. My car smoked after the oil change for hours. They overfilled the transmission fluid. Had to put the struts (2 different sets) on my car 4 times because there were issues with missing parts, rattles, etc. After dealing with them for days and multiple "we've fixed it," only to have issues immediately after driving off the lot, they put a new tech on it who got rid of the noise. They were adamant that I needed some brake work that they estimated at like $600. I passed and I'm glad I did. I just took it to my regular shop to check over everything and they said there were absolutely no issues with my brakes. I feel like I wasted $1,000. If you care about honesty, good work and fair pricing, DON'T GO HERE.

DO NOT GO to any Richmond area Tuffy, especially this one. They cannot be trusted. I was overcharged (by hundreds of dollars) for repairs and maintenance they said had to be performed ASAP (without much further explanation) and forced to pay for services they advertised as free. They also performed another service which made the car drive much worse than before. All this happened on the same visit. I went back and complained, then called the office, but no one ever gave me any refund although I had been going there for years and the owner's sister confirmed they did rip me off. She also said they would fix my car but she rescheduled on several occasions, and then simply stopped calling me back. No explanation provided. Need more reasons? The atmosphere and customer service is horrible. It appears someone started renovations but never completed them and the staff curses, listens to inappropriate music very loudly, and has a general disrespect. As if that isn't enough, I went somewhere else to get my car inspected and just so happened to meet someone who said he left Tuffy because they are dishonest.

Done right my butt!!! Back yard mechanics ,guy was high as gas.....these guys are worst then pep boys....20 min took 2hrs.....they almost ran my vehical into another....and then try to charge me 20.00 for a bulb.....if you go here to get work done....bring your grease for the scr**** your going to get....

I went here about a week or two ago after reading the reviews to get my brakes and rotors replaced on my Chevy Prizm. The customer service was awesome and it took them no time at all to get the work done. Truly the fastest time for brakes and rotors in my life. Amazing guys. Told them my problem, they not only were ready to help but got me in right away cause they said it might be something you don't wanna drive on. Everyone hates spending money on their cars but it's a necessary thing and these guys make it so much easier and they got it done in a day. Fastest job I've seen. My car wouldn't start and I had no idea why. It was sitting on the lot of a restaurant. My x-husband happened to be in town and he sent me a text and said I just saw a commercial for Tuffy on Broad Street, give them a call in the morning. My ride to work picked me up at 6:30 AM and we went to check on my car. I told her about the text and she said I saw that place before, it's right down the street from where your car broke down. We pulled up at Tuffy 15 minutes before they opened. I opened the door and Jose told me to come in. He called the towing company for me and told me he would call me as soon as my car got to the shop. Jose was professional, very helpful, and called me 2 house later. He worked with me, fixed my car, and I picked it up by 1PM that afternoon. That was 5 Star service from a 5 Star shop. I am new on Richmond and Tuffy has my business for life. I will send everyone I know to them for auto service, the experience and service was GREAT!!

So I’m not a person that does reviews. However I think this should be addressed my son went to pick up his jeep from getting inspected and getting an oil change. He called to see what the status on it be ready would be. They tell him the things they found wrong and said he could come pick it up. Just to note one of the things was “a headlight was loose” we get down there were told it was the head lights marker was off” he then goes gets the paper work and tells us it was a turn signal light. So then I’m like umm “which one is it”. He then reply’s “am I allow to make a mistake?” I’m like sure but there’s no reason to get an attitude about it. While my son Is finishing up with the Transaction with the young man ringing him up the manager says “ I hope you didn’t think I got an attitude with you. I then told him of course I did if the rolls were the other way around you would take it as I had an attitude with you. The other man ring up my son looks at me and shakes his head agreeing with me. After going over everything else I got to check out my sons Jeep to make sure of everything and from a non mechanic I noticed all turn signals are working fine. So I’m thinking what the heck is going on I go back in and ask and have him come out and point it out. Which he does with a chip on his shoulders I walk back to the office and ask him for his business card he then replies what you need my card for. I told cause that car is new to my son I want him to have the documention he needs. I then ask him is there a problem with me having your card? He says nothing and gives it to me between is two fingers like I’m wasting his time. All this about the newest manager running that place. His name is Weldon Burden (manager) They had two great guys running that place it’s def gone down hill since those guys left. So sad.....

I've been a customer for awhile and i didn't have any issues until recently I dropped my car off for an inspection. They returned the car to me dirty with black smudges, damaged with dents and they caused a new issue with my car after they repaired the window. I was told that they would fix both issues, but they still failed to fix the window and said that they didn't do the damage. After speaking with Neil at their corporate office, he said that he, the manager or the owner of thr shop would call me back, but I've haven't gotten any calls back. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND CUSTOMERS TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP.

From the moment I walked through the door there was a warm welcome from the front desk assistant who quickly helped with my problem. The mechanics gave warm welcomes as well. The shop moved quickly to resolve my battery issues and I was in and back out on the road in less and 30 minutes. Not only did my issue get checked and resolved; the shop checked out everything else under the hood to make sure my car was in great shape! I appreciate the kindness of this great crew! I am so glad I finally have a reliable place to take my car! I needed a follow-up to my state inspection after replacing my windshield at a Firestone. The location was so busy that they kept putting me off even though I legally had a limited amount of time to have it re-inspected. I called several shops in Richmond and they all turned me away. Tuffy's, on the other hand, got me in and out in a half an hour even though they had a line. Everyone was so nice. I am definitely going back!

Took a car for a pre-purchase inspection, and during the inspection they incurred what was quoted as $1,000 of damage, then without telling me about the damage they said the car was in perfect condition. No joke. Turns out, the thing they broke was a simple $10 part which I did myself. If not liars, these guys are sloppy. Beware.

Fantastic Customer Service! One month ago, I was on my lunch break and needed an oil change. I was pressed for time and I knew that I would not have time to get it done after work since I was going out of town as soon as I got off. I remembered going to Tuffy’s at 8817 W. Broad Street before and I thought I would go ahead and see if they could help me. As soon as I walked in and told the Michael that I was pressed for time and on my lunch break and needed an oil change, he assured me that I would be taken care of. That, I was! I sat in the waiting area for a few minutes after they pulled my car in to service it and Michael called me over to the counter to ask if I would like to go ahead and take advantage of the free a/c check that they were currently offering for the summer, I said SURE, it is free! He said that if time permitted they would go ahead and do it along with my oil change so that I could get back to work in time. Well, about 40 minutes had passed and I had more than enough time to get back to work on time and my car was finished with the oil change and they were able to check my a/c. When Michael calls me to the counter, he proceeds to totaling out my oil change and delivering the results of my a/c check and said that my a/c just needs Freon. He said that he could get Andrew to take me to work while they put Freon in my car and then he could either pick me up from work when I get off or drop my car off for me. From start to finish, I was so impressed and gracious for the quality of service and care that I received from the folks at Tuffy Auto at 8817 W. Broad Street. Called asked for price for AC Diagnostic check.Sales person said bring atuo in now no cost for diagnostic check I arrived about 10.00am 5/17/2018 with QX4 1998 infiniti .Auto taken shop sales person said everything looks good,price for evacuate/rechange would be 150.48 very reassuring this would work just low 134a needed, dye would be used if 134a ran out later and takes about 45 mins to complete.then.Sales comes and says diagnostic needed price would be 125.95 .Sales person to me was misleading the way I understand now is you have to recharge before you know just be honest most shops put some of the charge toward the problem.150.00 lesson for me.

I made an appointment to get inspection, then went to get it inspected where they claim I need over $1000 worth of work I got the work done for under $500 and called to get reinspected, and now they don't make appointments for that and I would have to go there at 7:30 am everyday to have a chance and if I can't get there at 7:30, i can't get it done. I drop my daughter off at school at 8 so that's impossible and yet they tell me that's all they can do and it was the manager I spoke to the entire time, supposedly. Horrible!

I had to get my mom's car inspected and I ended up needing some work done. The staff were more than happy to explain the details of what needed to be done, plus they were patient and understanding when I had questions and when I needed to discuss everything with my parents prior to getting the repairs. I ended up making an appointment a few days later and was in and out within a few hours. There's a nice little waiting area with couches and also they have one of the cleanest bathrooms I've ever seen. They were super friendly and easy to work with, and they even remembered me when I called to make the appointment. It's the little things :) Overall experience was great and I'd definitely go back again!

I came to Tuffy when my first car shop told me I needed a new muffler but they couldn't do the work. Tuffy gave my car a free once over to check it out and determined that it wasn't the muffler at all. They were quick and incredibly informative. I felt super comfortable as a first time customer and they were great about explaining in plain terms what I needed done as I nothing about cars.

It was a wonderful experience. everytime I go to Tiffy it's usually just for an oil change or inspection sticker. I'm in and out. The staff is very nice. I like when the young man at the counter can't remember his name keep giving all the customs an update on what was going on in the back and how long it was going to take.I was very impressed on how he addressed each and every one of his customers by name.wonderful customer service. Went for an inspection and dropped the car off due to it being the beginning of the month. Got a call the next morning informing me I needed an air cabin filter; which I had, and a back licenses plate bulb ($45 extra for both items). The catch is, I've replace the back licenses plate attachment with one that held a rear view camera and had LED lights for the license plate. Quickly questioned the guy about why I needed a bulb. He seemed confused when I informed him I had LEDs. Story changed to the LEDs weren't bright enough, which still doesn't make sense why they're attempting to charge me for a bulb. I promptly asked them to fail my car. Went to pick it up, changed the licenses plate light back to stock which is not as bright and they passed it. In the end I think they just wanted to up charge me stuff. Also, notice all the reviews about inspections and small things being "wrong." Right, just like the bulb I needed. mhmmmm

My car is 15yrs old and has only been to the dealership. I was having issues and didn't want to pay dealership prices, so I decided to check out Tuffy. I am so happy that I did. It was the Saturday before Christmas when I took my car in and they told me I needed a catalytic converter and new front brake pads. I asked if they could fix it that day and they did, they even stayed a little extra to get my car done. They also didn't charge me an arm and a leg to fix it. My car is now fixed, for a reasonable price, and I am so grateful! She runs almost like new! Everyone is so nice and explained things to me, and didn't charge me for things I didn't need. I bought battery at nappa auto who doesn't install and he installed it at no charge. He checked my suv first to make sure everything was correct and quickly installed it. I had used this location to get my work done for inspection in December. In February the part failed. I'm use to places giving me a raw deal with warranty parts but Alex made it right. He replaced the part. Not only did he fix it under warranty but he didn't charge me labor. I've had some do a shotty job, had the parties replaced under warranty only to bankrupt me with a huge excessive labor bill as a extra bonus. Not here. He also did a excellent install on my shocks. It did take awhile mostly because the parts are hard to find but he did a good job. He was pretty easy to deal with, straight forward and polite. The only note for improvement would be communicating earlier in the day. Perhaps a email at minimum or text.

Had to have car towed in last evening after hours.I spoke with Jose first thing this morning to discuss my needs.They diagnosed issue and replaced alternator.In addition,they replaced brakes I knew I needed soon, rotated tires and changed oil. My car was ready for pickup at 3:15. That is awesome service! Made an inconvenience a smooth solution. Very bad customer service. I took an appointment for 12/26 morning for oil change using one of the groupon deals. On 12/26 morning I called and talked to Kristy to confirm that I will be coming for servicing and will they accept the printout. Since I don't want to drive half hour in cold and rain just for nothing. Kristy said all is fine they will accept and confirmed its okay to come for the service Guess what : I drove all the way in rain and cold to find a person at register saying we don't take printouts, you need to have some kind of card. I don't get it what was so difficult for the person to tell me over the phone. When I told I called half hour back to confirm. The person at the register said we tried calling you back, surprisingly I never received any call and the phone was with me all this time. See 3 big issues: 1) Employees don't have ample training/knowledge of what they are talking about. 2) They can't keep their words 3) Never apologized for the whole incident. I will not recommend anybody to go to this auto service. I had a bad experience even before I can actually get any car service from Tuffy Auto Service.

They have no idea about what they are doing, even for oil change and inspection, when you submit car in morning, they will tell you, it will be done in 2-3 hours (by afternoon). But, then you will get a call in evening, that it's not done, please bring your car back tomorrow. Tomorrow, same story different day. It happened twice with me. They won't even bother giving you an update in afternoon, unless you do a call yourself. After 2 times, they definitely lost me as a customer.

I have been a Tuffy customer for over a year with only a few minor problems. I recently went to this location to have work done that was already quoted to me. When I left, I got .2 miles down the road before breaking down. For the next week I experienced deterioration in my car's condition. Tuffy representative Alex insinuated that I blamed them for not performing the work correctly after returning the car for further inspection when I stated the car didn't feel safe to drive. In their care the car stopped working. I towed it elsewhere and they found that my engine was destroyed. I paid them nearly $700 to ruin my car. I can't afford an engine or a new car at that, and they want to make me jump through hoops to PROVE they had anything to do with it rather than help me. I hope they enjoy my money, I'll enjoy not having transportation.

I took my car to Virginia Automotive for a state inspection and they failed my car for the need of a new transmission mount. I knew that there was nothing wrong the my transmission mount. They then precede to quote me $1,500 of additional work. I told Virginia Automotive to reject my car and get it off the lift as I knew they were lying to me. I took my car to Tuffy and it pasted state inspection. I knew in my gut that the previous rejection was fabricated! I'always get two quotes and Tuffy has NEVER tried ripping me off and they will match my written quotes if they are lower. Everyone should ALWAYS get two quotes, however, I highly recommend Tuffy as they have always been fair with me!

Great experience with these guys just got my Miata done there and the experience couldn't of been better. Very genuine and down to earth people here. My exhaust was a bit of a piece and these guys and I joked about it and they got it all sorted out and car sounds amazing. My experience with Tuffy was amazing! My car wouldn't start late Friday evening when every place was CLOSED. I had to get my car towed home and find a place to fix my car on a Saturday without an appointment since my regular mechanic is closed on the weekends and requires an appointment. I called Tuffy and spoke with Andrew on Saturday morning. He told me to have it towed in and it didn't get there until 11:30 and they were closing at 4:00 p.m. They were able to fix my car and had it ready at 3:00 p.m. Jose and Andrew were very helpful, respectful, friendly, and gave fair pricing! I would recommend this location and will use them again!

Took my 1991 Mercedes benz in for a state inspection. Got there before they opened. They saw me and told me to come on in. I explained what I wanted done and that I was looking a new repair shop because my old one went out of business. They were very courteous and professional. I had been trying to get my car inspected for the last 3 weeks & this was the last Sat. of the month. Everywhere I went I was turned away. I usually work 6 days a week so I'd been taking off each Sat. to get this done. Finally Tuffy's said they could, but I would have to wait. My car was old but in good shape & I was really hoping nothing major was wrong with it. It didn't take them anytime to inspect it & everything was fine. They made a recommendation I have my headlights cleaned & gave me an offer. I had to go to work so I told them I would check back later. I then went to pay & was told there was no charge for the inspection. I was floored. I have since bought a newer (old) car & will take it to Tuffy's for any mechanical work as I feel they won't rip me off. I'm a female & it's hard to find some place that you feel you can trust to keep your car in good shape. Highly recommend.

To follow up on the review I wrote below, I took my minivan to this Tuffy shop to get one of the power windows fixed. They had told me that they could have it done the same day, but an unexpected problem came up and they ended up having to keep it overnight. Totally understandable, but the way they handled it really stood out. They not only gave me a loaner vehicle to take home overnight, but they also gave me $20 to put gas in the loaner vehicle. Incredible. Any other garage probably would have told me that i was out of luck and I would have had to call a Lyft or something to get back home. Probably the best customer service I've ever seen at a garage. The clerk who took care of me I think is named Alex. He needs to get a promotion or a raise or something. In fact, all of the personnel at this Tuffy shop need to be recognized because every time I go there, they go completely out of their way to help me and to do things right. TUFFY ON WEST BROAD IS THE BEST! My original review: I work at the movie theater across the street and I drop my car off at this Tuffy shop on my way to work sometimes to get the oil changed or get minor issues fixed. They always have my car finished the same day I drop it off. They are very friendly and nice, and do great work.

They saved me over $1500.00 on one repair. I have three daughters and have their cars serviced there. I especially appreciate how they don't focus on charging you a lot for diagnosing problems. Other shops want at least $125.00 just to hook you car up to their machine. Tuffy seems more interested in building relationships than charging large fees.

The Tuffy on 8817 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23294 tried to con my mother out of more money when she went in for an oil change last month. The mechanic told her that she needed a new headlight and a cabin air filter. Also the cover for the filter went mysteriously missing. She decided that she would have me take care of both. Upon my inspection, I noticed the head light was never put back in and the bulb was in perfectly good condition. The bulb was actually burning a hole into a tube from rubbing up against it during travel. I also found the cover to the air filter hidden under some papers in the glove compartment. The GM has been made aware of the unprofessionalism and that he has officially lost customers from this day forward.
