I cannot say enough good things about these guys. My wife and I have brought our cars here multiple times over the years and service has always been great, prices very modest and response time excellent. Had to have 2 of 4 catalytic converters and sensors changed on my 2003 Sienna and they kept the price the same as quoted over a year prior. I didn't have the cash to cover then. They took the extra step of changing my oil at no charge since I had been negligent and they noticed it was extremely low and dirty. These guys are honest and always put the customer first. As long as I live in the Portland metro, they are guaranteed a lifelong customer.

They did a good job on my tires, but they upgraded my oil change without talking to me first. While I appreciate that they didn't use the wrong oil, it's not great to come back and find a bill significantly higher than the estimate with no warning that it will be.

Called and asked before if they could look at my car and drive it on the highway because that was when my car was having issues, they didn't blamed it on bad traffic. They replaced my battery and oil change and now my car is running worse then when i had it, died on me the next day (that wasn't the only issue with the car and i knew it). I didn't want to spend a ton of money to fix this car but they didn't seem like they ran much of a test on anything I said could of been the issue. They also promised to have my car outside overnight so I could pick it up after work and they locked it in the shop. No discount or nothing they just wanted to give me a ride to come get my car the next day not happy with the service at all. Very disappointed.

We've been servicing our cars with Mike and Scott for almost 20 years - they've seen everything from us from old VW microbuses to new trucks and lots of foreign and domestic SUVs and sedans in between. Tires, brakes, engine replacement, accessories installed - there's not much they can't do and if they can't they tell you so and give a great referral. If they make a mistake, they make good on it, no charge and no questions asked. And their prices are very competitive - I've never been quoted less on tires elsewhere. We've "fired" dozens of service vendors over the years, but those guys are keepers - as honest, hardworking and customer service oriented as they come. I rarely give anyone 5 stars, but they've earned it.

Great place and great service! Heather is the best! On Saturday I needed to replace one tire and wanted it to be the same brand and make as the other 3 I had called every place In town and no one had it and said that i would have to wait 7 days for shipping. I called this place as a last resort and spoke with heather she was able to find me the tire and get it shipped to their location in about an hour. On my way to the shop heather called me to let me know the tire arrived. When I got there I dropped the car off and walked 4 blocks down the street to eat at some food carts. When I came back they had my car ready for me. These guys work fast and they got the hook ups! I will be coming back here for my next set of tires

Always impressed with the service here! Of course we only come into contact when I have a flat tire (two times in the past year). Both times I've called and got in right away. They always have tires for my Subi. Usually in and out within 90-120 minutes. Have yet to find a store that even comes close to their pricing. Called around before contacting them and fond that most shops charge nearly double what these guys do. AT&B not only answered the phone almost an hour before being open, but they also got me in before they opened. See you again next time I have a flat tire :)

I had a lackluster interaction with one of Affordable Tire & Brake's employees. I was actually on the way to Les Schwab to have a flat tire repaired when I got a second flat tire three blocks away from Affordable. They were highly rated, so I saw the bright side of trying another company's service. Walking over there I assumed they'd be able to lend me a second spare and I'd end up buying a tire or two. The option I was given was to drive the three blocks and scrap the tire - probably something I would have done if it wasn't rush hour traffic. The real issue was the guy's slight annoyance. Maybe it was just a bad day, but it did motivate me to write this.

I inquired about a fairly pricy set of tires, and Heather responded very quickly, with the price for the set, along with some solid recommendations at a lower price points. I wound up going with the Continental Pure Contact's that I asked about, and love them. They were very accommodating of my availability, and I never felt any pressure to purchase any unnecessary products or services. In fact, I beat them to the punch in asking about an alignment, they also offered a generous discount when including the alignment with my tire purchase. Great customer service. I normally don't trust mechanics, but Affordable is slowly earning mine. There was a delay in repair of my vehicle, and I was understandably upset. Rather than push back and get defensive, the owner spoke with me personally and took the inconvenience into account and made it right in the end by knocking a considerable chunk off the final bill. That speaks volumes to me and tells me that it's not just about the money, but the experience for the customer. The repair and delay was explained in great detail, and they did everything they could to make it right. And they were successful at that because I will continue to give them my business. Like I said, trust is hard to come by - especially when it comes to mechanics. Affordable is earning mine.

I went here because it was the cheapest quote for two standard 14 inch tires $130. They took about an hour to do 2 tires, the staff was courteous the first round. However, they completely messed up my request. I clearly asked for my front two tires to be replaced. They said they would do that and move my new tires to the back and bring the old tires up to the front. My car is front wheel drive. When I got home, I realized they switched out the good, back tires and left the bald front tires on there. I had to go back and do it again the next day. They were rude to my boyfriend who said that the new, best tires should go on the front of a front wheel drive car. They insisted they go on the back. You decide.

UPDATED REVIEW! No change. Still 5 plus stars. Went in with a screw in a tire and saw when I pulled up that the tires looked like they needed replacing. Had Affordable check out the tires before making any repair and was told I was right, it was time to buy new tires. Not only was the purchase and installation quick and easy, I was in and out within two hours. (And I was a walk in!) Again, you can go anyplace for tires in this city, but you won't get the professionalism, quality and great service that you can only get from Affordable Tire and Brake. I won't buy tires anywhere else. ( I'll also add it's within walking distance of plenty of great places for coffee and breakfast if you're going to wait.) I purchased tires for two vehicles from Affordable Tire and Brake. Over the last couple of years I have need the tires rotated, balanced and repaired on occasion. Each visit to Affordable Tire reminds me that I made the right choice. Everyone, from the front desk to the technicians, handled my needs in a professional and prompt manner. I posted a review elsewhere that pointed out that the lug nuts on my car were torqued to factory specs, this alone impressed me. My most recent visit involved a possible issue with a leaking tire. The tire was checked and all was good. From selection, service and a great experience (we're talking tires here) I highly recommend Affordable Tire and Brake for maintaining the four most important things your car rides on!

Stellar service on super short notice before a holiday weekend. I managed to run over a rusty razor blade in SE Portland on a Friday afternoon before Memorial Day (today), and the folks at Affordable Tire had it patched and roadworthy less than an hour after I dropped it off. On top of that, I got really busy at work after dropping off my car, and their staff was diligent in making sure I'd be able to come pick up the car before they closed for the holiday weekend. To top it all off, when I finally made it in to pick up my car, they didn't charge me! I know free tire patching isn't unheard of, but combined with the fantastic service, this is an easy 5 star rating and I know where I'll take my business for the inevitable future tire replacements.

I took my Lexus LS400 in for an alignment and installation of a inner tie rod bent by a tow truck. I requested special care with regard to the alignment, as i use this car for work. I requested before/after specs. And low and behold, rear camber was never touched and out of spec. It's called "set the toe and let it go". Mike, the owner. Offered to realign it, I'll give him that. But, I was in Bend and then Orange County. It wiped out my rear Michelin' at 150 a pop. My recommendation is The Line Up shop in SE pdx, if you need an alignment. I should have know better.

I went in to get brakes changed on my tundra if you have kids they are not kid friendly as I was trying to call for a Uber the lady in the front basically told me to shut my kids up I just decided to leave came to another place where they basically welcomed me and the kids! Total rude way the lady told me to shut my kids up.

Long story short they swindle my boyfriend and I into a new set of brakes, rotors and all. They stated it was because the car had been driven in The Midwest, and the salt had wore them down. In truth the car spent a total of 2 months (October and November) of its life in the Midwest and the rest in Portland(2 years). However, the car had Midwest license plates. I explained all this to them and even collected my old rotors to have another mechanic look at them. The other mechanic told me I still had at least 25,000 miles left in them. Affordable conveniently threw away the brake pads. I raised my concern with them and they point blank said “this what happens when you live in the Midwest.” Even though I stated I lived in Portland.They did not offer and reconciliation or fix. Take your money elsewhere.

They’re very helpful and really want to get you the best for you and your car. I took my car in to get my rear drum brakes replaced. They asked I drop it off in the morning and it’ll be ready by days end, with a call after they do the inspection. At 3 pm I got a call saying they had a super busy day and were having trouble getting my car in for an initial inspection and asked if I could leave the car overnight. I wouldn’t have minded if I didn’t have work that night (I work overnights) and I asked her if would it be okay if I just bring the car back in the morning. She said ‘I’ll just see if we can get someone on it right now!’ About an hour later, the mechanic calls and says my car is in good shape, definitely needs the back brakes replaced and suggested I also do the front. As they’re disc brakes I can do those myself so I declined and he was more than happy to oblige. No up-selling, no pushing. He also asked if I could leave it overnight and I said again I have work but perhaps we can just start again tomorrow, in which case if necessary I can leave it overnight as I don’t have work. He had to check to see if he could get the parts and he could! So he said he’ll get right on it and it should be ready by closing. When I picked up, they were clearly still running around super busy finishing up people’s cars and while I could see it was frantic, everyone was really professional and really nice. I’m super impressed a shop would try this hard to work around my schedule and I’m very grateful! I will come back and recommend. Thank you so much!

Here's a tip: When they tell you your tire cannot be repaired, ask them WHY before buying a new one from them. My 'unrepairable' damage was a nail through the tread. A simple and safe repair. Knowing this, I told them no to the new tire, took it elsewhere and got it fixed for $15. Was this was a hustle? I'm not sure and I won't be back to find out.

Recently purchased a vehicle that was regularly and last serviced at Affordable Tire. Upon inspection and records found that this business did not do proper repairs as stated. First thing was the supposed replacement of the rear window regulators. When one side failed within 4 months, found that it was not replaced, but was glued back together. The vehicle had all the incorrect fluids in it. Wrong oil, wrong coolant, and wrong power steering fluid. There are other things that cause me to suspect shoty work from these guys as well. I was not the only one to find such issues from this shop. In speaking to a family member, they too had found very unprofessional workmanship on a vehicle serviced here. Needless to say this shop will never earn my business, or anybody else that I know. Be very careful with the service you get from them!

These guys were the closest ones and they not only repaired our tire in an appropriate amount of time, but they didn't even charge us and we couldn't force them to take money. Very helpful and kind! Scotty, Mike and Heather are terrific. I've brought them my Escape for regular service for years now and recently started bringing my, new to me Volvo. Most recently the Volvo needed tires. I shopped online for tires and then talked with Scotty, he provided me some print outs, with pricing, and provided additional feedback about the tires I was considering, specifically which set would be quieter. The pricing was BETTER than online and the information about sound level turns out to be spot on. I had a slow leak in a tire on my BMW. I brought it in and they could not see anything wrong when it was put in to the water tank to check for bubbles, the usual indication for a leak. Instead of sending me on my way saying that nothing seemed to be wrong, they dismounted the tire and checked both the tire and the alloy wheel for anything that might be wrong, put in a new air valve, and then put it together and back on the car. Now the leak is gone. All this work was done for free. When I bought a tire from them recently, they had to special order it and I had everything done in a single day, all at the best price of any tire dealer in Portland. I would always be a return customer with this type of service.

alright... this place?! pretty great. i don't know a ton about cars mechanically so it's always been hard to find a shop i can trust since they can sense my fear and almost empty wallet from miles away :P these guys are so friendly and open/honest about what they see needs done and crazy helpful and fast. i have literally rolled in with a flat at 5pm and they are MORE than happy to make sure you're taken care of regardless of how busy they may be! i have had 5 tire holes or problems in the past 2 years and thank goodness i know where to go every time now! i also took my last two trucks to them for all of my full service and tune up work no matter the make or model. the only reason they don't get a five star is because they are human. with my first pickup they couldn't figure out exactly what was wrong with it despite several attempts. in the end it was smarter for me to just get rid of the vehicle rather than poor money into it but i gave them another chance and they have always proved to not only try their hardest to fix anything they do it with a smile. sometimes they can be a little good ol' boy abrasive but they get work done. thank you to them for taking care of me for so many years now!

A flat tired isn't the end of the world, until you personally get one. What a nightmare! My son told me to go to Affordable Tire & Brake Co - he said they do good work, and don't rip people off. The tire had to be fixed asap - as the car needs to be used. I didn't have time to fart around. So, I took my son's advice, and went to Affordable Tire... E.G, an employee of ATBC - checked out my tire situation. He was able to fix the nail hole within minutes of driving in. He explained to me what was going on, and answered my silly questions with kindness. Hey, I don't know anything about tires, just that mine are new. I was in and out within 30 minutes, with the spare back in the trunk where it belongs. And - I wasn't charged. No clue why, but I wasn't charged. My day, and work schedule revolved around me getting this tire fixed. It was a huge deal for me. ATBC - and their employees took care of my day-ruining situation. Thank you!

I went into the shop in need of new tires and I'll admit I was a little embarrassed because I didn't know much about tires. Heather made my experience very comfortable. I was completing a 5500 mile, 4 week trip on the Alaska Highway in my Subaru Outback when returning home to California my car developed a severe vibration in the drive train outside of Bellingham, Washington. I was able to limp the car down to Portland where my daughter lives. This happened on a Saturday. Scott and his crew made time Monday morning to check the car out. He found my right rear axle pulled partially out of the rear end. He ordered parts and had one of his guys devote the entire day to the car. Turns out I had damaged the rear end by driving the car the 250 miles from Bellingham, The new parts wouldn't work, but they refitted the old axle partially, but securely and I was able to continue on my way to northern California without incident. Scott only charged me an amount to cover his mechanics labor. I owe you big time, Scott. You rock!

Best customer service, 5 stars! So, I got a flat tire on Friday night. The bad kind where you know it's flat, yet you keep driving because there's no place to pull over. Low and behold, I get to where I'm going and find the flat. Sigh. So, I changed the tire and drove the car back across town to Affordable Tire & Brake where I always take it. To my great surprise, they have a key drop where I can leave them a note along with my key. Great, that means I don't have to come back on Monday to give them the key. Even better, I get to explain my situation. Fast forward to Monday morning, I call to check in to make sure they got my key. Not only did they get the key and my car, but they've already put on a new tire! I can come get it anytime! Holy cow! Upon getting to Affordable Tire & Brake to pick up my car, I find out that the tire was actually still under warrantee. Yup. They only charge me $34 including labor! How incredible is that! I am so happy with the job they did and how convenient it was for me. I'm going to always take my car, this one and every one I ever have, to Affordable Tire & Brake!

I needed new brakes and called around to various places to get quotes over the phone. I got a good vibe immediately after talking to Michael as he was very professional and informative, more so then the other shops that I had called previously. I scheduled the appointment and when I brought it in i asked if they had time to do an oil change. "No problem" the friendly woman at the counter said, I pushed my luck and also asked if they could service the transmission. Again she said "yes". They called later in the day and told me I needed a new serpentine belt and the power steering fluid should be flushed. I Knew that both of these things needed to be done. And they never tried to sell me something that I didn't need, they did all of the extra work in the same day. I picked my vehicle up at the end of the day and it literally drove like a brand new car despite the 257K miles on it. I cannot say enough good things about this shop, I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who needs professional, affordable and timely service.

Getting my car serviced on as we speak. So far my rating is 3 stars because they don't seem to care. Everytime I have talked to them it seems as if they are annoyed, are to busy, and do what they want. I dont like leaving bad reviews, so I am hoping that after the repair(s) -4 tires, axle, and barring- my view is different. So far customer service from the front desk needs a little work :-/. They also do seem pretty busy, do i totally understand the hassles of business. Also the parking lot is not easy for tow trucks especially flat beds- to deliver without blocking traffic. This is also my first time using this company.

Was recommended here when I first moved to PDX and they have been really great. Nobody's perfect, but they always work to make sure everything is resolved in the long run. They're always very fair. Recently I came in for a second opinion because Landmark Ford was telling me the ball joints on my truck needed replacing. Since my dad was a mechanic, this sounded fishy to me (recommended service versus actual repair needed) and they wanted $1300 for the job! The guys checked out my truck and didn't even charge me anything, though I'd have happily paid for the privilege of saving $1200+!

I was tired of crappy service at all the big chain tire shops. In the past, I've had experiences with scratched rims, tires not properly balanced and generally bad customer service... I'm pretty meticulous with my car and do all the maintenance myself but tires are one of those things you just can't do at home due to the specialized gear needed. It was time for new tires on my car so after looking at yelp for tire places near where I lived, I found these guys. I liked the sound of a locally owned business and it was one I passed every day on my way home from work. Things got off to a good start when I gave them a phone call. Really helpful and friendly on the phone. I liked the price I was quoted so we put in the order for the tires I wanted. I dropped my car off two days later at the time we had agreed upon and the staff was really friendly and they got started on my car right away. The shop was super clean and the waiting room had free Wifi -- bonus. I could see the tech working on my car from the waiting room and he was doing a great job. I watched him dismount my old tires and mount and balance the new tires, checking the air pressure on each tire after he mounted them. The final touch that really pleased me was how he put the wheels back on the car. He loosely mounted them all, then tightened them up with the air gun -- but then broke out the torque wrench and torqued the lug nuts properly. Thank you! All in all they were done in just 50 minutes -- which is 10 minutes under how long they said it would take. The final real test for me would be to drive the car on the freeway to make sure the new tires were properly balanced. Nothing bothers me more than a shimmy and I can say that if there was any I would be going straight back to have the tires rebalanced. When I got onto I5 I was so pleased that the car was buttery smooth. I honestly couldn't be happier and will definitely be going back in the future and really recommend them to all. One of the great things about living in Portland is you have shops like this.

I brought my 2012 Honda in for a brake inspection as I was told by a dealership the front axle brakes should be serviced. They let me know I had about 2-3 oil changes before this needed to be done! They were very friendly, upfront about cost, and quick. I do feel there was some up-selling happening with a number of recommendations not needed or I could easily do myself (Cabin air filter, wipers, PCV valve). Specifically they recommended an oil change but this was not necessary based on time since my last oil change, miles traveled, and service recommendations for Honda vehicles. I would go back for very minor things.

These guys are not on the level. I turned a wrench for a living profesionaly for over 10 years. I decided to let them work on my daughter's Subaru for a head gazket job and the 2 front axels. Aproximately $$2,400 dollars worth of work. 30,000 miles later the car's temperature gage begun to go up higher than usual and I spoted a leak from somewhere near the right wheel well. Since these guys "replaced" my water pump and thermostat along with a ton of other parts they recomended I took the car back to them.....SURPRISE!!!.instead of them calling me with an update on the leak which was my original concern as I clearly told Heather....I got a sales call... they want to sell me a full exahust system along with a catalytic converter radiator and cooling system hoses all arround cause they can see my tags are due for renewal soon and they "want to help".....and get this.....A new headgazket job!!! along with the radiator and an additional $125 to fish out codes from the computer. No mention of any responsability on their behalf for their past work was even atempted. And when I mentioned it mike their front man said I was being ofensive. I was upset to say the least. So far the Better business beauru and consumer protection agency have been notified of their practices.....My car is going to wentworth subaru down the street for a full inspection to make sure they did the work they charged me for. I'm marching in first thing in the morning to ask some key questions. Edit....Edit....Editorial. They were furios for my review this morning and the car was up on the lift. The below response is all BS. They pointed to oil and claimed it was antefreeze from the radiator as I was dismanteling their false claims standing right there with them. I reached up to the vehicle, touched the oil, showed them the oil and their front man still had the gold to lie in front of me about it being antifreeze. I think I know the difference between the two...The point being I know BS when I see it and I know and respect good Techs/mechanics when I find them.They Couldn't answer any diagnostic questions to substaciate their claims and I believe 10 years as a professional mecanic qualify me to distinguish between good diagnostics and Remove and replace substandard gess work when I see it. They went as far as trying to blame me for misunderstandig (calling their BS) when they "misspoke".....Zero acountability/Responsability for workmanship integrity....Zero concern or respect for me and my Family. I took my car with me this morning I don't know why they're claiming it's still in their shop.

I brought my car in for a slow oil leak. I so appreciated their honesty. The owner called me to say as a business man he could tell what would be needed to repair the multiple micro leaks but as a person he told me that he wouldn't bother. Very minor amount of leakage but still a leak so that is why I brought it in. It would take removing the engine to get at one of the leaks and he just didn't feel it was worth it. My car is 12 years old but in otherwise great shape. He suggested getting my oil changed every 3000 miles instead of the recommended 5000 miles. I so appreciated his honesty. Great place. Will definitely be back

Mike made my appointment on Tuesday for Thursday. I dropped off my car to have the valve cover gaskets replaced, and oil that had leaked cleaned. Mike said that Thursday was a good day for them (not me), and if I brought it in at 8 AM it would be ready by 5. When no one called by 4 PM I called them. Scott told me my car fell through the cracks and no work was done. Scott made it clear that there were many other cars there that were a higher priority than mine. He stated my car needed an extensive leak inspection by “oil leak experts” using dye testing and quoting several hundred dollars to do this work. He did so without ever looking at my vehicle. If Scott or Mike would have bothered to listen to me they would have known another garage already did this testing and located the leaks at the valve cover gaskets. They were there only to lie, sell services not needed and show their incompetence at scheduling car repairs. I would strongly recommend staying away from this garage.
