I went up there to get a new exhaust system on my truck a few months ago and the mechanic never showed up for work so they had to send me to smithfield but i just went up there a few days ago to get a quote on louder exhausts and they said they'd call me but they haven't yet, very bad communication, very bad service, don't go here for anything, their prices aren't the best either, ill be finding a different shop to go to

I needed my rear tires replaced due to uneven wear so I had my order shipped here for install. The sitting area is comfortable and staff friendly. Even though they were a little backed up in about an hour and a half they got me done and out. Prices are reasonable and I would recommend them for your tire needs. If I need anything the dealer doesn't cover I'll be heading here first.

Beware of this shop. It is mom and pop and NOT in a good way. There was a lady working the desk and phone previously. Since she retired, it has become chaotic and not customer focused. I took my car to this shop today, 12/2/17, for an 8am appointment I made earlier in the week. I arrived at 745am. When checking in, the owner Terry (who I made the appointment with) couldn't find my reservation sheet. I should have left then since he had done this with my reservations in the past. However, I completed check-in, confirmed the services I needed, then left. At 230pm, Terry calls to tell me he was able to do the inspection and oil change, but not the brake service. He apologized, said he made a mistake, said that things happen, and asked if I could bring the car back on Monday. I told him that he's had my car for almost 7 hours and asked why he was just now calling me. I explained that my husband nor I could come on Monday. He said there was a car that took double the time allotted and backed up his schedule. I told him that I would come and pick up the car right away. When I arrived at the shop, I told Terry that I was not happy and that he has greatly inconvenienced us. This is the only Saturday this month that we have available to do this. Now, we have to re-arrange schedules to try and get this done elsewhere. In addition, because he waited so late to call, I have no other options to get this done this weekend. He again apologized, said he's been doing this for 30 years, and that he made a mistake and things happen. I told him that I am also a business owner and would never let my mistake become the customer's problem to deal with. I would offer solutions, stay late, fix the problem, GET IT DONE. Terry's response, "I asked my mechanic if he could stay and complete the work, but he said he had something he had to do." I was so done at this point. Terry only gave repeated excuses, no solutions other than to come back another day. I paid for the 2 services that were completed (inspection and oil change) and left. Terry seems to be clueless to how to provide proper customer service. We had issues with this shop in the past, but we try to always support small business. Afterall, it's not always about the mistake itself, but how you recover. This was the last straw. I told Terry that we WILL NOT be back. I hope this helps someone make an informed decision about where they decide to get their car serviced.

Unexpectedly horrible service. I brought my vehicle not once but three times to this garage, with appointments being made, and all three times, they were “too busy” to look at my car and get anything done! My car sat all day, while they took other vehicles ahead of my scheduled vehicle. My check engine light was on. I just needed diagnostics. Not only did they not complete any work, but they lost my extended warranty paperwork! When I asked the manager for an explanation, he didn’t have one. Simply pathetic and poor business service!

Had to go to this location to pick up a car dolly. After being treated horribly by Barbel at Kelly's Karz @4086 NC 42 hwy W. Garner,NC. We had originally planned to rent from there. Husband hooked up dolly the R light did not work. When this was brought up to her. She replied with "Go home call U-haul roadside. I wouldn't allow my husband to leave. An hour and change later roadside shows up. And said we couldn't use it. Faulty wiring. Barbel, said well not our equipment. Thus how we ended up at Clayton Tire. Very helpful, very nice. Will use them again.

RUN! Trust me, do yourself a favor and find another mechanic before even thinking of taking your car here. I had my car towed there to have my starter replaced...simple, right? Well 3 days and 5 phone calls later, he hadn't even looked at it!! Every time, and I mean every time I called Terry would answer and say he was with a customer and couldn't even answer a simple question as to when my car would be ready. He always said he would call back and never did - 0 out of 5 times! On the 3rd day and 5th call from me, I asked if my car was ready, he again said he was with a customer. When I told him I was a customer too and had been waiting 3 days he yelled and said he didn't have time for me because he was with a customer! At that point, I had it immediately towed to another mechanic. This guy can't even get a starter replaced within 3 days! On top of that, treats his customers horribly. As a business owner, I get that times can get hectic, but when you own a business and you rely on your custmers and after 30 years in the auto repair business, you should know that you have to hire more help if you can't handle the business. Don't push your poorly managed business practices on your customers. Funny thing is, when I talked with the tow truck guy who's towing it to another mechanic, he mentioned how horrible Clayton Tire and Muffler is. He said Clayton Tire has been sending some of their cars to another mechicanic in town because Clayton Tire doesn't know how to fix it! That speaks volumes!! So, if you value your time, your car, and want to be treated ethically, go somewhere else. There are so many more reliable mechanics around town than this guy.

I was told being my car in on a Wednesday to get brakes pads replaced and to pick it up on Friday. Went to pick up my car Friday about 4:30pm and it was not ready he said he just looked at it about 20 minutes before I got there. Wow had it for 3 days and could not get the work done. So I called back on Saturday and he wanted me to bring the car in and he had the parts but he got the parts late at 12pm and they were going to close at 1pm. So he said bring it in any time Monday. Ok I called Monday he said I can do it this morning 2 hrs to get it done. It th poke the mechanic 5hrs to replace my brake pads turn 3 rotors and replace 1 caliper. The mechanic said he is the only mechanic working there the other ones are tire mans. Waited from 8:45am to 2pm 5 hrs and 15 min ago. I would not reccomend this place to anyone. Terry was very rude slow mechanic and can not give you a date and keep it to fix your car. Just stop it off and pray that it will get fixed that day. DO not bring ANY Car to Clayton Tires they Suck. If you are retired and have plenty of time that you can sit and wait forever pls dont because forever is a long time.

If I took my car in for an oil change, they did just that. If something more had to be done, they explained in detail why. I will never take my car anywhere else!

Rude and obnoxious on the phone. No people skills, whatsoever. Tried setting an appointment for my son's truck who is in the military and on limited time to return to base. I was told he was backed up for two weeks. I asked if it was possible to fit him in because.of his schedule. He told me he didn't care. Obviously not one ounce of respect.

If you want to get ripped off go here. If you want a good and fair mechanic go somewhere else. They love to double charge and their markup on part is unreal. Also they are just bad at conducting business. They are very rude and refuse to gaurantee work unless you fix all the stuff they say is wrong with your car.

I have only used their UHAUL service here, so I can only speak to that. Their customer service is excellent. They always get me checked out quickly without hassles. Also they accommodated a few special requests of mine from time-to-time. I will continue to rent trucks and trailers from Clayton Tire and Muffler.

They do a good job every time I go. I have been there several times. The last time I was here, they refused to do the state inspection on my class B RV which is a large van. You can park it in a normal parking space. They said you had to have a place big enough to pull it in to inspect it. As I was leaving, I saw two Bay's way big enough to pull the Van in. They have inspected my van before and my two other vehicles. I bought tires and catholic tic converters for my van. I will be taking all my business somewhere else.

I just wanted to let everyone know that at Clayton Tire we try and give everyone great service. Yes I do work for Terry and I know first hand that he is the most fairest boss I have ever had. He strives on making sure that each and every customer has been fully satisfied. We are extremely busy and yes sometimes customers do have to wait a little longer than anticipated but we have to give 100% to everyone . We have a large customers list and if we were not the best in town, we would not have so many returning customers.

I can’t speak for their auto work, but I would suggest not renting a U-haul at this location. The pick-up was fine, and the employee was pleasant and helpful; however, the drop off was horrendous. I parked the trailer exactly where I picked it up from then some guy comes out yelling. “Just put it anywhere.” I can’t really hear him, so I get out and walk towards him. He starts talking in an aggressive, threatening manner. I am confused, but then I realized he doesn’t want the trailer there because he thinks it’s blocking traffic. While fine, move it. Or, you could have told me ahead of time. That’s not the issue. (But there was plenty of room for a driver of average skill to pull through). This guy starts backing up towards me as I am trying to figure out for what I am being chastised. This guy nearly runs me over. Then I am at his window and he rolls over the tip of my foot with his tire. It was a graze and not painful, so not a giant deal, except that’s battery. By now I’m fully enraged, and go inside to complain, where yes, I was upset and raised my voice a bit to the woman inside who had nothing to do with the situation, and she says understandably, “don’t yell at me”. I said, “you are right, I’m not yelling at you I’m upset.” But, then she continues, because don’t you take a tone with me I’m not in the mood for it, my leg hurts! Wait what?!? Clearly, the customer service issues go all the way up. Customer service these days has just gone to the birds. Just take warning if you deal with the business. You may be assaulted and nearly run over.

Bottom line up front: Terrible customer service. 0-3 on "I'll call you back" and discarded a tire I wanted back regardless of repair status. No compensation offered. I will not be back. My father-in-law dropped my tire off for repair while I was out of town. He picked the tire up several days later after it had yet not been looked at. He told me not to go back and that they clearly weren't interested in running a business. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back. The owner told me he would have his guy look at my tire and call me back when it was repaired or if it could not be repaired. I told him if it could not be repaired I wanted it back. A week later I hadn't heard anything, so I called and he said he'd have to go look for it in the trash pile. Again, no call back for another week. I went back after two weeks and he'd had the tire disposed of. 0-3 on "I'll call you back" and disposed of a tire I wanted back regardless of repair status. I will not use them again.

Our family has been taking our cars to Terry @ Clayton Tire & Muffler for 17 years. They have worked on everything..Fords, Chevys, Toyotas, Mitsubishis, and I can't remember what else. They have always fixed them fast and I have Never EVER felt like they gave me a bum deal. If you are looking for a high end service station, where the attendants usher you into a cozy little waiting room with coffee and snacks, you are not going to find that here. If you want that, go pay higher prices elsewhere. Clayton Tire is a small town, old time mechanic & tire shop, pure and simple. The customer service is fantastic & honest and as long as we are here, Clayton Tire & Muffler will always be our go to. Thanks Terry!

The customer service was horrible, I highly would not recommend to anyone. I tried to ask a few questions because yes I am a little younger and the guy there said and I quote, "Look, you're asking too many questions". I was just simply trying to learn more about the tire sizes. I went to get new tires and the gentleman there said he had the tires I wanted then said he didn't have them. After that he put smaller tires on my car which eventually caused me to rotate my tires since it was giving me problems. I will not be going there ever again.

Go elsewhere. They may have the cheapest price, but their service is very bad. They cracked my rim, made every excuse you could imagine, but would not make it right. Terry is less than honest. I made the mistake, you don't have to too. GO ELSEWHERE!

Never, ever go to Clayton Tire and Muffler. They keep your car all day, literally from 9 am to 5 pm just to rotate the tires. I've tried calling them to see when my car will be ready, but no one will answer the phone. They have horrible service. Don't go ever to them!! You'll regret it! The man who works there was mad at ME for hanging up on him after he told me they had tried calling me, when they hadn't! I've had my phone with me all day and they have called me not one time!! Supposedly, they closed at one but waited til we picked up the car. It was 5:00 when we finally were able to pick it up. Then when my husband went to pay, the man said he wasn't going to accept his money because he didn't appreciate me hanging up him! I hung up on him because he told me he had tried calling me, but I told him there was no way he had because I had had my phone with me all day. Then he said, "Well, that's beside the point!". Yeah, I hung up on you! I'm the customer, dude!! You're not a little boy who got his feelings hurt. You were rude to me! Your bread and butter!

Very poor customer service and all I did was rent a U-Haul Van. It seems that they completely forgot to do all of the things we agreed to when I picked up the vehicle - I even left a note on the key when I dropped it off to remind them - Placed in the owner's hands too. I know it wasn't the normal routine, and I could have ignored it all, but when the owner tells you they won't do what they promised originally I have to call them on their integrity & lack of customer service.

Really nice people are employed there that go the extra mile. We pulled in with a u-haul trailer and the mechanic went out in the rain to detach it from the tow vehicle. Soaking wet, he still had a great attitude saving me from attempting doing something I knew very little about. Legitimately, they are allowed to charge the customer to disconnect the equipment if necessary. I am grateful they didn't. Clayton Tire and Muffler offers uhaul rentals as well as being a full service repair shop in a convenient location on the 70 in Clayton.

told me i could do a walk in with no appointment so i drove an hour there, then they tell me i have to make an appointment so i go back the next day for an appointment and they tell me they can’t do it when it’s a simple exhaust job on my car and all they said is “we can’t do it, your cars being pulled outside.” 4 hours of driving wasted. they have no clue what they are doing and bad customer service
