These guys do not fit the stereotype of mechanics. I do most of the work on my own car, so when I take it to a shop I appreciate service that knows what they're talking about and are honest and respectful. They call you to follow up with updates and for your approval on work. They do great service and are straight up with you. Prices can be more than you're used to but not unheard of. If you believe that you get what you pay for, your money is safe here.

I have been going to House of Tires for more than 10 years with 4 different vehicles. Here’s why: my son was in the military and I was about to drive to Fort Benning, Georgia to see him. I took my Honda to the dealer for an oil change and asked them to check the brakes before the road trip. They called me at work and said it needed pads and rotors in front and drums in back. It was going to be about an $800 job. But there had been no squeaking, squealing or other signs of brake trouble. So I didn’t believe it. I said hold off on the brakes and I would pick the car up later. They wanted to charge me $150 for removing the tires and looking at the brakes. I argued that since they didn’t tell me there would be a charge up front, and I explicitly told them don’t do anything that will be an extra charge without letting me know first. So after too much time arguing with the service rep, then manager, they finally waived the $150. I picked up the car, paid for the oil change, and took it to House of Tires, which was near my home the next weekend. I had never been there before, but Ganin Tire in Inwood had recently closed, so I was looking for a tire/brake place anyway. I had never been to House of Tires before, but I went in and told them the same story – road trip, safety check, blah blah blah. They took the car into the bay, put it up on the lift, removed and replaced all four tires (you can see into the shop from the waiting area or parking lot), the technician talked to Kirt, and he came over and said to me, “Tires and brakes are fine. You’re good to go” and he gave me an idea of about how much life they had left them. I said, that’s great, and asked what I owed him for checking. “Nothing,” he said, “the car’s fine.” I’ve been going there ever since and find them to be honest and easy to work with. They’re open 6 days/wk, do all aspects of engine work, have a waiting area with a Keurig and a TV and loaner cars, and take you either by appointment or as a walk-in. Highly recommend.

More reasonably priced, more honest and trustworthy than the dealer from whom my family has purchased MANY vehicles from. Just a follow up. they are awesome! I've been a customer for a few years. the other day all i needed was an inspection - they were pretty busy in the morning but they took my car gave me a ride home and picked me up when it was ready (less than 2 hours later) - all for only $10 - just the cost of the inspection! I've been told more than once by this shop to come back another day because the shop was too busy to do just an oil change despite the fact I was dropping the car off in the morning to pick up later. The high prices aren't worth the hassle and I question their competence. The mechanic pushed in the OBDII port on our car once after a routine inspection and we had to have it fixed by another mechanic. I will be taking my cars elsewhere and suggest you do the same.

Excellent on the spot service in an emergency situation. I had a blowout luckliy I was within 500 feet of a great shop. This is the best mechanic/auto repair shop ever. The guys are professional, kind, and efficient. I get everything done for my car here. Their prices are appropriate for the area. The owner is wonderful and really knows his stuff. I've been coming here for over 20 years and cannot imagine going anywhere else. People who complain about the prices need a reality check. If you don't like the prices, go somewhere else. Go to Meineke or Sears and get impersonal service and have many people take care of you thst are not as knowledgeable. Trust me on this place. This place is not a tire shop it is a butcher shop. If you drive a high end car DO NOT take your BMW, Benz...etc to this place. The owner told me “These are special rims we charge more to swap tires because if we damage your tires we have to fix them” word for word. The shop left every single one of my rims damaged. NOT A TRUSTED PLACE!!

House of tires is the only place I trust to give an honest and objective opinion regarding my cars. I have been using them for 15 years and will continue using them. I was once told that they would not let a car out of the shop unless it was safe for their kids to drive. That is dedication and integrity. If my kids have a problem with their cars they call House Of Tires before they call me. There are countless positive and wonderful stories, but it comes down to two things: Honesty and Integrity. This is a TIRE shop, not a problem solving shop. If its simply tires you need, then perhaps they are ok. If you have an issue that needs a REAL diagnostician, then look elsewhere. As far as being able to diagnose a persistent issue, Hewlett House Of Tires engages in guesswork. If their first guess is not correct, then every other "guess" is simply them scratching their heads and trying something else, while your wallet takes a hit. They are NOT competent in the diagnosis of a persistent issue... they're simply guessing at your wallets expense.
