I never post reviews for anything but I can't resist doing this one: Needed a wheel alignment on my 67 Camaro and brought it here. It ended up needing the control arms shimmed to adjust the camber. Car was there for a couple of hours and alignment was completed correctly. I have done all of the work myself on the car and NOT ONCE have I brought it to another mechanic to be worked on. Only reason why I brought it here is because I do not own an alignment rack (the only way to accurately align the vehicle's steering components). Here is where the issue is: Although there is no way to prove it as it has been too long (few months) since I was there with the car and if there is any video footage, it is probably gone by now, I can only make an accusations. My brand new transmission (with an external cooler that is separate from the engine coolant) that I installed completely myself was somehow flooded with water. It was only after I had brought it for alignment is when I started noticing issues (slipping, unusual knocking noises in 1st and reverse gears, and eventually 4th gear failure). Recently dropped the drain pan and noticed nothing but clutches and strawberry milkshake (see my pictures). I never drove it through water, all trans fluid poured into the unit was all out of a sealed container, and is using an external cooler (will never make contact with engine coolant which has water mixed in it), and all other components are sealed. I had to drop my transmission with less than 70 miles on it and now have to get it fully overhauled by the transmission company I bought it from. Whether it was done accidentally or on purpose by the technician (jealousy, maybe?), I will never know but what I do know is I need to pay for a trans overhaul, a new torque converter, and all new transmission components that are contaminated and all of that money is out of pocket which I don't have making my car nothing more than a paper weight. If I had realized sooner I would've filed a summons to court and requested all camera footage recorded while the car was there to be submitted and made them pay for the damage. Only thing I can do now is post my story and let you decide whether or not you can trust them with your car.

I came into have a tire plugged, knowing I needed tires. Everyone was very nice to me when I came in. I had an appointment to get to at 11:20a and I was informed that the tire couldn't be patched with the condition that the tires were in. I got a breakdown of what the service would cost me and Travis was the technician who worked with me. I asked him if he could have me out by at least 11:10 to make my appt. He said that was impossible. So out of the kindness of his heart, he drove us to the appt. Travis went far and above service to us. I just want to thank him over and over again. I needed two front tires and an alignment. They were able to get me tires that was in my budget, get me in and out quickly, and do the alignment. I was really out of wack. The only problem I had was the place was too cold, a minor inconvenience since they told me an hour to an hour and a half and I was out in a hour and a quarter. I definitely will go back.

Also, bought new tires from them at a good price, but needed to negotiate a little on this. Have had no major issues with the car so don't know yet how they would do in that regard, but I would probably give them a chance.

Very knowledgeable staff and friendly atmosphere. My vehicle was having trouble when accelerating. I don't know much about cars, but American Tire spent a lot of time diagnosing the problem, but then instructed me to go to my local Nissan service location since the $800 part and labor should still be covered under warranty. It was and saved me over $1,000! It really was refreshing to have a auto repair shop (which I am usually skeptical of) be so honest. They will get all my future business.

When I had my old 1999 Nissan Maxima, I started coming to American Tire & Auto when my mechanic couldn't schedule me for a few weeks. In about 6 months, I probably ended up spending $4000 on my car. It needed a new EVERYTHING. It really, honestly did. And not once did I feel like I was getting cheated or scammed. The guys at American Tire & Auto make you feel very comfortable in explaining what's going wrong and what needs to get done. New brakes, new tires, shocks...you name it, I now know about it! I kept coming back because their service was amazing. I never had any issues with scheduling appointments. Every time, they applied one coupon or another to help with the major costs. I sold my car with confidence knowing the person I was giving it to got pretty much a car that was in better shape than when I bought it. I will, without a single doubt, be taking my new car to American Tire & Auto Care for an oil change! I recommend them to all my family and friends that need a mechanic.

I am writing this review because of the high level of customer service we received from Travis at the Green Brook location. We got a flat in one of the run flat tires on our van on a Thursday night and were able to limp to another, closer tire seller; we called that night and they assured us they would have a set of four DriveGuard tires for us Friday morning. Needless to say, they did not have them on Friday; we needed the van for a trip so I began a mad scramble to find the tires. After contacting five other tire stores (who couldn't get the tires we wanted until Saturday or later but could get a different tire) I happened upon Travis; he asked me to give him some time to see if he could find them and said he would call me back. About twenty minutes later, Travis called me back and said he found them and would definitely have them for us by early afternoon. Knowing how desperate we were, he could have taken advantage with the price but he was very competitive ( I wasn't going to argue over $5.00 considering how much work he put in to earn our business). He called us with updates as the tires made their way to him since we would have to drive our lame van over to him on the existing tires (no spare in our model). He promised a time that our van would be ready and delivered on it. I would highly recommend Travis and American Tire & Auto of Green Brook.

Took my F-150 in and told them of a newly developed rattle on the front end of my engine. Sounded like a pulley bearing or something going out. Left my truck with them. They call me at work and say it is my harmonic balancer coming apart and the sound I hear is it hitting the oil pan. I tell them to fix it. I return when it is done and pay my bill. Just shy of $500.00 Then they inform me that "there is something going on behind the timing chain cover and that my noise is still there." They fixed nothing for 500 bucks. Took my truck about half a mile down the road to STS and they diagnosed TIMING CHAIN and fixed it. No marks or dings on my oil pan. This 1 star review is to generous but there was no zero option.

I called around to several places before I decided to go to American Tire & Auto Care for the purchase/installation of 4 new tires. I was very impressed with the service that I received over the phone in terms of discussing pricing, my choices for tires, and the current manufacturer rebate offers in effect. Although there was some confusion/miscommunication that initially affected the pricing of the tires when I arrived for my service appointment, and although I was initially frustrated by this aspect of the experience, Will (the store manager) did a fantastic job of following up on my concerns and is in the process of correcting the issue. I have used the Green Brook store for tires and regular maintenance, along with more complicated repairs. The people are friendly and professional, the shop and waiting area are clean, and they have wi-fi and a TV. They are also consistently honest and fair, and the prices are reasonable. I like the fact that they offer factory parts but can also offer better quality discounted parts than other service centers I have used. Regardless of whether I bring in one of the many coupons that are always available, they generally apply any other available promotions or coupons without my asking. I recommend them for all work.

They don’t honor their price match guarantee for tires. I went there to purchase tire this past Saturday. I inquired about the price match and I was told long as I could show proof of a lower price it would be honored. I show them proof of a lower price on another website and was told they couldn’t honor it because it’s lower than they expected. Last time I check the whole meaning behind price matching would mean 9 times out of 10 it would be lower I wouldn’t come in looking for them to match the same price their selling the tire at. The purpose is saving for price matching now paying their selling price. The tire was about 20 cheaper online than what their selling it for.

I've gotten 2 bum batteries from this place (interstate batteries) in the Greenbrook, NJ location. Especially if your a woman, stay away! they try to rip you of!! they tried to charge me $1,300 for a brake job and the battery, like I'm an idiot! so i decided to go somewhere else. When I came back to get my faulty battery replaced (they sold to me) Again, Then they said I needed a brake job, which I just had got 2 months earlier at Meineke in North Plainfield (great mechanics!) I looked at them like are you serious! I already had my brakes done and he said they did it wrong and I said show me. He's like sorry I don't have enough technicians, your car will be right out. Guy acts like you best friend and he's a snake!

Will not do business with this company again. Would not give me any money back on a set of tires they sold me that dry rotted after only 20k miles. Only gave me credit towards new tires or other work. Location not convenient for me at all. I have used these guys a few times in the past with no issues. Most recent experience was unacceptable. all i needed was a tire that i provided to be mounted and balanced and all tires rotated. that should be no more than maybe a 30min job. i even emphasized that i dont feel comfortable driving my car on a donut. with that being said they then explain to me that cars have been there since around noon that still havent gone into the shop. ok well those are drop offs and so i am completely dumbfounded as to why they couldnt squeeze a waiter in the minor work i needed done. and then they had the nerve to tell me to leave the wheel and tire and they would call me when the new tire was mounted and balanced. ok so me saying i didnt feel safe driving the car and they suggest such a thing is concerning. i ended up leaving there and went to a different tire shop that was also busy but was in and out within a half hour. i will not be coming back here ever again because of the nonsense i was told.

I own a foreign car. I normally would go to a specific dealership to get the car serviced. I happened to pass American Tire & Auto in Greenbrook one day and decided to stop in and get a comparison price. I have been getting my car serviced there ever since!!! The entire staff is always helpful. They go out of their way whether it is a phone call or in-person. They make you feel comfortable and speak to you as if you are a valued cusotmer regardless of how small or big the problem is. I know for a fact that they have squeezed me in for service when they were fully booked. Just all around nice guys! When they couldn't fix the damage to my car, the service guy made a personal call to another service place to help me out. I wish all businesses could be run so smoothly. I highly recommend them.

NEVER AGAIN!!!! I have been a loyal customer at American Tire for well over 10 years but today they lost a valuable customer. I arrived on-time for my 12:30p.m. appointment for an oil-change and to purchase 3 new tires. I was assured that they had the tires in stock and it would be "at the most 1 1/2 hours wait." THREE HOURS and $900.00 later they finished. I was told that 'they were backed up on their alignments": However I watched as my car sat there and other cars went in and out of the alignment garages.I feel as if I was taken advantage of and offered not even an apology. Then to add insult to injury, I called my dealership to price out the same service and tires and it was the exact same price! Time is money, all of my future business will go to the dealership where I purchased my car.

I used to frequent the American Tire & Auto Care shop in Old Bridge, NJ. I have always had good business with them. So when I moved away from Old Bridge I found their Green Brook location. I'm happy to say that the same great service and knowledge from their Old Bridge location is present at their Green Brook location as well. I've gone to them for simple procedures (flat tire, oil change, etc) and for more complex issues (damage to a vehicle) and every time they treated me kindly and helped me understand what needed to be done to the vehicle in a simple way. They never made me feel ashamed for not knowing cars inside and out. Sometimes their estimate times can be a bit off, especially if they're busy. But every single place I've been to does this from time to time. Definitely not a deal-breaker, just be aware of it. However their lounge has complimentary water, coffee, wireless internet access, and a TV. So as long as you're not on a tight schedule, relax and bring your laptop while they work on your car.

Edit to my review; 2/2014: I have had my car at ATAC many times, and they have done a few things totally incorrectly. They replaced tie rod ends that conveniently were damaged after 14 months again, and also I have had my front rims balanced here a couple of times, both times the vibration is unbearable afterwards and I have to get them re-done elsewhere. I am probably going to stop going to this shop altogether. Also when they recently remounted and balanced my tire, they failed to notice about 1" of travel on my control arm due to a worn bushing. This was easily and clearly seen by the next shop that did the re-balancing and will be fixing the rest of this. OLD REVIEW: I like this repair shop for two reasons, they are pretty fair in terms of the value they place on each customer. Many repair shops are business only and are not very good with customer oriented services. The prices at AT&AC are not the lowest around, they do however seem to care and value you as a customer, and the repairs they did on my vehicle were done very well and fixed the issues I had been having. The shop I took it to previously did a poor job, and AT&AC fixed that, and resolved another issue I had. Was it more than I wanted to spend? Absolutely, but it's not often that you do not have further problems with your vehicle then you originally thought in most cases. I appreciate the treatment I received there, and I would go back again.

Buyer be ware I went to American Tire For a oil change on my truck and was told from the manager I would need all new brakes and rotors and the cost would be over $600 for brakes and rotors. Every time I visit American Tire in Greenbrook I am always greeted with a friendly smile and a knowledgeable individual. I have four vehicles, one of which is a true classic, a 1970 Cadillac convertible and I trust their mechanics to work on any of them. Their agents keep me informed throughout the entire time my vehicle is being serviced, so that I am not surprised when I am ready to pay my bill. I belong to a classic car club and many of my club members now use American Tire as their personal mechanic. Went to fix a leaking tire. They found the leak between the rim and tire and remounted it. Another shop tried twice to fix this with plugs and did not solve. Great work!

Update: I called Brad the guy I normally work with there & told him about what happened. He assured me he would dig into this & bring it to the District Manager. Next day, District Mgr Mike D, reached out to me & today we sorted out ALL the issues noted below. Clerical error & miscommunication caused some of the issues. I chalked it up to having a bad day, which we all have here & there. He took care of everything himself, took apart the throttle body & cleaned it.

I recently moved to the East coast and did not have loyalty to a particular auto repair place. I called American Tire & Auto in Greenbrook for some information and was immediately impressed with their customer service. Keith provided me with detailed pricing information and answered my many questions with patience and professionalism. I have an older model car and might have been pushed into more repairs than my budget would allow, but instead Keith worked with me to prioritize the repairs. Itemized estimates were emailed to me and pricing quotes were honored. The work has always been completed on time and right the first time. For me it's not as much about price- it's about great customer service...I can now say I am a loyal customer.

I went there for an oil change with multi point inspection. I was told that they will do a complete multi point inspection, but they did a partial job only. Many items were left unchecked including the brakes and battery. (Within a week after the service, I had to call roadside assistance due to a bad battery). The wiper blades were already bad and they marked them as 'good'. Moreover, I had to wait for more than 90 minutes for this partial work. I had been to this location many times before, but this happened the first time.

I received a great price for tires but the savings were not wasn't worth the hassle. My cars alignment was perfect going in and horrible coming out. I would recommend a place that takes responsibility for issues that create. Cooper Tires in Green brook had a higher cost per tire but included alignment and is where I'll be taking my business moving forward.

Great place! I had an emergency at 4:30pm and they still took my car to clear an alarm and fix my tires/alignment/rotation before they closed. I use this place whenever I'm visiting from Michigan to get an oil change and to make sure my car is road ready for the 800 mile drive home. I recommend this place over the dealership every time.

I have been taking my vehicles to this location for the last 8 years. Very well informed techs who do not try to oversell anything that is not required. I have made, to my knowledge, a couple of suggestions for repairs and looking at my service record, they inquired my suggestions. This puts me at ease, as any other shop would say yes and add it on. The prices are justified and I really do trust these guys more than my dealership.

Stopped in over the weekend to get an oil change and a new belt that was cracking on my commercial vehicle. Tech informed me that they always have the belts in stock and that evenings during the weeekday would be less crowded. Went last night and only was able to have an oil change because the belt was NOT in stock!!!! Have to return again now!!!

I want to describe not only their usual excellent custiomer service but an extraordinary act of kindness. During Superstorm Sandy when our whole house generator died after 5 days we searched all over north/central New Jersey for a battery. It wasn't any common battery but one specially made to power these types of generators. After numerous false starts and leads we finally thought of American Tire & Auto Care. They went out of their way to find this battery from their distributor. And while we waited for the battery to be delivered, they charged the old battery at no cost! I had heard of American Tire & Auto Care from my parents, who always to take their car to be serviced at the Old Bridge location. To travel that far would be a bit of a hassle for me so I happy to find out that they also had a location Green Brook. I took my car there several weeks ago to be serviced and was made aware of issues that the dealership had failed to notice. Their prices were extremely reasonable and gave me a thorough explanation of each part I needed. I definitely plan on going back to American Tire & Auto Care for all my service needs.

went for a front end alignment told the front end was out of line needed a tie rod ball joints were bad stabilizer was bad job would have cost about $700 this is for a 2015 jeep with 20k miles . went to the dealer for this problem stabilizer bar was under warranty and replaced for free NOTHING else was wrong except for tire balance and rotation $59 AND IT IS PERFECT AMERICAN TIRE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF

I first met Brad, one of the managers at this American Tire and Auto Center over 20 years ago. That time he saved me a lot of money by correctly identifying the issue my brand new Nissan Altima had. The dealer wanted over $500 for the fix and the issue really was a bent rim. Since that time I trust this guy over the dealers. I have been to this location a couple of times. I was having a problem with my truck and with out even thinking about it called American Tire & Auto Care. Travis who answered the phone was like always very nice and professional and listened to every word I had to say. We set it up for me to drop off the truck so they could look at it which is what I did. But you want to talk about a very pleasant surprise. A tech (his name is Mark) who worked on my truck before became available. He wasted no time in not only taking a look at my truck, but discovered the problem quickly and repaired it. American Tire & Auto Care is the best place around and if anyone is looking for a place to have their car or truck taken care of I say bring it to them. You will leave very happy that you did.

The guys working are always willing to help when I come by, even tho they tend to be small jobs or may not even end up being a job at all! Recently was there for an ATV battery that was hard to find & expensive. Well the dude spent 10 mins on the phone trying to get info for me and ended up with me not purchasing anything. I needed the battery that day but wouldn't arrive until the following. There were other times I was looking for a trailer tire which ended with the same senerio but there had been times in the past they changed all my tires, did oil changes, etc... They're fast, friendly & reliable.

I came in to American Tire with what I thought were 2 bad tires that I had bought from another place. They immediately got it diagnosed which two tires were defective and had new tires ready for me the same day. The work was done quick and they were awesome with contacting the tire company and getting me a refund even though I didn't even purchase the original tires from them. Never going anywhere else!! I mostly dealt with Travis and he went above and beyond, but all the other people who answered the phone when I annoyed them 100 times a day were great!

I dropped off my set of low profile corvette ZO6 pilot sports to be mounted. I asked them before hand if they could do this (knowing how difficult they are to mount) and was told to bring them over,since they were a tire rack recommended installer. So i get a call at the end of the day with them telling me the tire are too cold(?? 70 degree day?) and they tried for 2 hours but could not seat the bead. They gave me back all four wheel halfway seated on the bead. And still charged me $75. Had to take them to another shop down the road to get them seated. So I pretty much had to pay twice to have tires mounted.They could have just told me they did not know how to do it correctly.

I was having tire balance issues for the past three years that my dealer was unable to resolve. Took the truck in for a Road Force balance and now I am good to go. Work began at the scheduled time and was done in a very professional manner. Did not try to sell me anything I didn't need -- in fact advised me I would not see a noticeable difference in performance if I bought new tires. I have used this facility on numerous occasions in the past and will continue to do so. They are good honest people who do the job right.
