On May 6th 2019 I had to take my daughter and her friend to Boston's Logan Airport. Plan was for me to follow my daughter to Auburn and leave my truck at her friends house and use her car to drive them to the airport, then I could leave her car in Auburn so when her friends father picked them up 10 days later, she would have a ride home. We drove to Boston.
Approximately 30 minutes from the Airport, traffic was bumper to bumper and we hit a huge pothole and the tire was instantly flat and the rim was bent. After managing to get safely off the road, I changed the tire and put the doughnut wheel on. I managed to get the girls to their flight on time but had to drive the late night trip back with the doughnut wheel on. My Plan now was to take the car back to Livermore falls, purchase a replacement steel wheel and tire the following day and get the car to Auburn so my daughter could get home when she returned.
I called a few junk yards trying to locate a steel wheel so I could take it to a store and get a tire . After calling many places I was told I would have to go to a place like town fair tire to get the wheel and tire. I called them and they said to bring the car in. When I arrived at Town Fair Tire. they took the size needed off one of the remaining three tires and told me they would have to order the wheel and the tire and would call me the next day to come back for installation. I asked how much and they told me $379.00. I was shocked. the wheel was not a fancy aluminum one and how much could 1 tire be?
I told them I was not happy having to come back the next day but since they had me over a barrel , to go ahead and order it, and call me.
I drove away mad and it hit me that I should ask at VIP if they had these parts on hand.
I pulled into the VIP in Auburn on center street and the man behind the counter asked how I was doing . I said not to good that's why I'm here hoping you can help me. They said they'd try. He asked if I was veteran because of the Marine Corps hat I had on , I said yes and he thanks me for my service then asked what the problem was. I repeated the story that I wrote above and he asked if I had the broken wheel with me. I said yes and he had one of his young techs go get it out of the car. He took a look at it and said that maybe they could repair it. I was dumbfounded, repair it? Why didn't they ask me that at the "other " place. He asked me if I had a rewards card and I said I did. he pulled up my previous account and asked me to take a seat in the waiting room and they would see what they could do. In less than ten minutes, the wheel and tire was brought out and they had straightened the bent portion of the rim and there was no damage to the tire and they blew it up and it didn't leak. I was some happy. I asked how much and he told me there was no charge and that they took care of their customers. I was shocked. I have never been treated like this before. I thought it must be a joke but I was wrong. I then asked if I could pay them to put it on the car. He again told the young tech to bring the car in and put the tire on. and that too was a complimentary tire rotation. This is my first review I have ever written. I was so happy that I saved all that money and with such grateful customer service that I will always make VIP my first stop when i have auto issues. In fact the following day I happily spent 1100 dollars on my grand sons car for brakes and tires at the Farmington VIP store. Thanks to Matt and his staff at Auburn VIP store and the customer service techs at the Farmington store too. I recommend a raise for all of them, they are world class. Thank You
