I recently purchased a car from O’brien Kia In Bloomington. Let me start by saying I am not a fan of car shopping or the entire process of purchasing a car...... never did I think I would change how I felt about it! Than I met Alison aka Ali from start to finish she is the only one I dealt with (which was SO nice to not be passed around to 6 different people) Ali treated me like I was her only customer and was focused on helping me find the right vehicle for me. She has been doing this 15 years I believe she told me and it shows she knows the answer to every single question I had in regards to financing warrantees and was very transparent when it came to the price of the vehicle the payments the interest-rate all of those things that seem to get “passed over” when purchasing a car if you know what I mean

No integrity. Bought a used vehicle from these clowns. I won't get into all the lies I was told about financing and the vehicles history. It would only be my word versus theirs. Instead I will show you what I can prove in a court of law. After spending way too much on what was supposedly a single owner vehicle. I signed paperwork and was told I had a one year 12,000 mile warranty. After telling me he was going to get me copies of all the paperwork Blair left and I was hustled off to their financial officer (also a liar) and after everything was sorted I left with the vehicle. The next day I was going through all of the forms I was given and realized that the warranty paperwork was missing. What I did have was a long scroll type document that when closely looked at had cleverly attempted to check the very edge of a box with a faint x (see attached photo) saying that the vehicle had no warranty and was being sold as is. I contacted Blair by email (always make sure you get any interactions with them in writing) and asked him to get me a copy of my warranty. He responded that according to his financial officer I already had all the paperwork and that I should take another look at what I did have. I had to hound him for days and he kept dodging me by telling me he would sort it then changed his mind and told me to talk to his business manager. After going back in forth trying to get him to send me a copy I accused him of shredding the warranty after I had signed it. Soon after the business manager TJ sent me a junk warranty of "12 moths or 12 miles; whichever comes first". That's right 12 miles, not 12,000 miles (see attached photo). I spent a week going back and forth with them before TJ finally said that there was a legitimate one year, twelve month warranty but even getting him to agree to this took several conversations. He kept trying to get me to come in with my paperwork so we could talk in person and also attempted to call me instead of responding to my emails. I assume he didn't want a written record of our conversations. What I later found out through CarFax was that the vehicle had been in an accident earlier that year. This was never disclosed to me and significantly lowered the resale value. As a result I had overpaid for the vehicle by several thousands of dollars based on its fair market value. I was told so many things that weren't true from the financing rates/options as well as the vehicles history. It was like something out of a movie. It's now been four months since this happened. I wanted to move on with my life and forget about it and just accept that I had been taken advantage of but every time I look at this vehicle there is a part of me that is full of rage at how far they went to mislead and swindle me. Next time I will know better than to trust any dealer regardless of their online rating. Maybe they treat their new car buyers with some respect but I was definitely conned. Response to dealership: Your staff lied to me at every possible turn in this deal. For you to pretend this is just a misunderstanding is so disgusting. I am going to have to take the vehicle in and have it fully inspected since it was in a wreck earlier that year which you also did not tell me. What's even more interesting to me is that the accident was reported while it was in your inventory.You then charged me $3000 over its fair market value by omitting this information. You lied to me about loan terms and claimed my credit union was charging higher rates than your Wells Fargo loan office and that I couldn't get a loan for more than two years based on your "information". I spoke to my credit union and I could get an auto loan for 4 years at 4% based on the vehicle data. Instead I now have a 6.7% loan. The reason I am not responding to you is that I want people to know the truth about how business is done there. Not listen to more of your lies. I was naive in thinking I could trust you to be honest. Turns out the old cliche about car dealerships is more than true in your case.

When you think of a car dealership, first things that come to mind are lack of transparency, lopsided pricing and super-pushy car salespersons. O'Brien Kia is very different. From the outset, I was treated well and Brian (the sales in-charge) was fairly upfront in his pricing. I was going through some tough times personally, and he held the car for me for over a week, which was very nice of him. I spent a few hours obtaining quotes from different dealerships in and around Illinois, and O'Brien's pricing was by far the cheapest. Here's what I specifically liked dealing with O'Brien Kia: 1. Held the car for a small deposit for well over a week; 2. Spoke multiple times over the phone to confirm the final pricing. Unlike other dealerships, O'Brien Kia did not stack any surprise charges in the last minute; 3. I expressed my lack of interest in the *driver care* package and the finance manager was not pushy - he respected my choice and let me buy the car without any additional packages. Overall, my car purchase was 100% hassle-free and thoroughly enjoyable, thanks to honest and genuine people like Brian. I would absolutely recommend O'Brien Kia.

Brian Read was amazing to work with! My family has been apart of hundreds of car deals and he was by far the easiest salesman to work with. His great communication skills are matched with honesty, which is often missing in car salesmen. I had a similar experience Alec McKean who is the head of service. A great majority of the staff are very welcoming. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that the Sales Manager, Wilson, was extremely rude. He has a awful attitude and I was extremely upset after having dealt with the rest of the staff, which were all great. He acted as if we owed him something and he took a lot away from what would have been a nearly flawless car purchase experience. We would have walked away from this purchase out of principle alone, if Brian's above and beyond service didn't overshadow Wills absolutely terrible demeanor.

The building has been completely remodelled and looks impressive. While waiting for your vehicle to be serviced there is a nice lounge with TV, WiFi and charging stations for PC or tablet. Walking down the hallway to the north is a free soda dispensing station available to the customer. The display or showroom has several of the newest models to view. The regular sales personnel are fine to work with. The next level up for sales managers is of more interest but the customer has to experience it for themselves to decide if good, bad or ugly. The overall experience can be enjoyable if not pressured that you just must buy to get that special deal.

This is regarding interactions from May 2018. Due to the extreme emotional distress caused by the dealership sales manager Mike, it has taken me this long to write a review. Throughout our interactions at the dealership, the sales associate we worked with, Blair, was incredibly pleasant, informed, and respectful. We even had the honor of a very extended test drive and felt some sadness over his losing of a sale due to the final unpleasantness with Mike. In retrospect, various small comments made by Mike should have been taken with more seriousness and the lack of respect and understanding addressed sooner by us. While attempting to appear patient and helpful during a credit approval snafu, which prolonged the car buying process from someone losing sensitive paperwork (it was never made clear to us whether that loss occurred at the dealership or at the Kia finance office), Mike's snide comments and dismissive conversations should have been big red flags of the blow up to come. Once we were finally fed up with attempting to finance, which would have been convenient otherwise, we attempted to negotiate a cash deal. Things went wrong on both sides. Our lack of knowledge on how dealers make money had us initiating the negotiation from the wrong perspective, and we felt Mike's anger management issues had him unable to calmly or clearly explain his feelings or position. In the end, I was in tears, the sales associate was explaining the theoretical reason Mike had huffily stalked off after yelling that he didn't want our money, and my husband was gathering our things for the walk home. Yes walk home, we preferred to walk miles home due to not having a car rather than purchase from this dealership. Because yes they did still try to sell us the car, for a very good price, when we were about a half mile away. We bought the same exact car from another dealer the next day for cash. In addition, despite years of getting our previous Kia serviced here, we have taken our maintenance business elsewhere and intend to utilize a dealership in another city if ever warranty work is required.
