Needed 1 tire with a nail repaired. They "claimed I needed 2 tires" even though only 1 lost pressure to 17psi! Afterwards they Overfilled my tires - they require 33-34 psi and they put 37 in one and 45 in the other!! I asked them to please correct them and the worker lied to his boss. The boss believed him. I was told to drive away and they would be ok. 9 miles later they had warmed up and the readings actually increased! Plus, they charge TWICE the price as Town Fair Tires.

Not one more thin dime will we spend at Hank Mays after many years (20 or 30 or more) of bringing all our cars there. I brought my older (2003) car, which was basically one major repair away from being retired, to them for an oil change and I asked them to check out what could be causing the car to make a loud noise when it was cold out. It was not especially cold that day so it was not making the noise, but I expected them to be able to troubleshoot the likely suspects (which I later googled and found the answer in 10 seconds...wish I had done that before asking them to check it out...). They changed the oil and alerted me to a few issues that would need attention soon, but nothing about the cold/loud noise issue was mentioned so I assumed they had checked it out and found no issues, that it was just an old car that didn't like the cold. The other problems were front brakes, a rear wheel bearing and they said the battery tested weak, but I had not had any problem with it whatsoever even in extreme cold. Less than a week later (it was cold again...loud noise was back) I suddenly had a major amount of fluid (coolant) pouring out from under the vehicle and quickly rushed to drop it off in the middle of the night. The next morning, they called with an estimate for a new water pump (which they had replaced only a year or two prior), maybe $300 estimate. OK, that sounded reasonable. An hour later they called again saying the serpentine belt tensioner was bad (this was the cause of the loud-noise-when-cold problem I had asked them to check out the week before, and it was also what caused the water pump to fail...if the tensioner had been fixed the week before, no water pump or other subsequent problems...IMO). The serpentine belt also now needed to be replaced (which they had ALSO replaced within the last year or two) because it had fluid from the busted water pump all over it. This all came up to another $400 or so. Then, an hour or so later, they called AGAIN and said they couldn't start the car to get it into the garage so they were selling me a new battery for $150. I forgot to mention that I was sleeping and it was my mom who was taking the calls, as I work very late and sleep in. The battery had never failed to start all winter, no matter how cold it was, so obviously this had been caused by the other problems, which were all caused by the bad serpentine belt tensioner which they had failed to diagnose just one week before. Total repairs, called in one by one, around $900. Had they called and given us that total, we would have had to discuss whether to proceed with the repairs or not, as that is probably about the value of the vehicle. When I went to pick up the vehicle, I asked the service rep who had signed me in the week prior if he remembered my saying that the vehicle was making a loud noise when it was cold and asking them to check it out and he said he did remember but he had failed to put anything about it on the work order that day. The service manager (with whom I really had not interacted prior to this day, the old service manager was great to deal with, not so much this guy) gave me a nasty attitude saying that if it wasn't making the noise when I brought it in how were they supposed to diagnose it...when a 10 second google search had already given me the answer. I then asked him (in reference to other work that needed to be done, which they had mentioned the week before, including a wheel bearing) if they would allow me (trying not to put too much more $$ into a car I just spent the value of, due to their mistake and sneaky tactic of calling in one job at a time for authorization) to provide the parts and just charge me labor (a hefty $130/hour, if I'm not mistaken...seemed to have been going up every time) and his exact words were "I'm not in business to be your parts installer"! Well, guess what? You're not going to be my anything anymore, nor will anyone else in our family be using you ever again.

This place is a complete rip off! I used to go here all the time for repairs but I noticed everything is way over priced. The final straw was when they quoted me $900 to fix my ac compressor. I ended up buying one for $180 and a local mechanic installed it for $200. I will never go back to this place. Stay away unless you dont mind getting ripped off!

Absolutely horrible experience at Hank May's. After waiting for over an hour (only customer there) simply for a brake diagnosis, I was given the overcharged amount of $900 dollars for front/rear brake bad installation only - did it myself for less than $150. What made it worse, when doing it myself a few weeks after taking it to May's the first lug nut I encountered was stripped - when May's put my tire back on after diagnosis THEY STRIPPED MY LUG NUT. I am a business professional who grew up around cars and mechanics and will never, ever, ever take my business here again. Hope this review helps.

I've enjoyed watching Hank's corny TV commercial for a long time. He seemed genuine and motivated by good customer service. So, I gave the Norwalk location a try. I wasn't disappointed. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. The waiting area is clean; well-stocked w/ magazines and a large flat screen TV. I spent more than I planned on tires. However, as other members of my family drive this particular car I wanted to be sure of safety and reliability. It's where 'the rubber meets the road.' I really appreciated the computer alignment printout that showed both before and after data points (down to two decimal places). The staff explained to me what each of these points meant. I highly recommend this business for tire replacement.

Buy tires here every other year. Feel I get ok deals usually have to special order Bridgestones. I do use this place to get the emissions checked that always goes smooth. Emissions is a one man operation you take a number and wait about 10 min per car ahead of you. Pay your $20 cash your good to go.

I wish I could give them 0 stars! I went in for emissions testing and was told it would be a 2 hour wait for 5 cars... absolutely ridiculous! Other than the 5 cars in front of me, the place was completely dead. I waited a while and after it took them over a half hour to test 1 car, I left. I went to Joey's Capitol-Wood Services Center instead and they were able to test my car and have me out of there in 10 minutes or less! Totally recommend Joey's over Hank May's. No clue why it takes Hank May's so much longer to do the same exact emissions test.

I needed an alignment so I chose them cause Devan Chevrolet couldn't do it on a big vehicle like mine. Anyway, the tech came back and told me I needed to fix something on my steering and they couldn't align the car till I did. They gave me a quote and I thought the whole thing was bs so I brought it down the street and it was aligned - no problem.

3 STARS. I WAS SEMI IMPRESSED WITH YOUR TEAM MEANING THEIR PROFESSIONALISM AND SKILL. THAT WAS BEFORE they GOT INTO MY JEEP AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS ALMOST INMOBILE!!! - LIKE THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. I GAVE IT A FEW HOURS 7 AND ITS STILL VERY BAD AND ALMOST UNMOVABLE- VERY DANGEROUS. IT ALSO MAKES A NOISE. NOW THEY ONLY PUT 4 TIRES ON AND PUT IN A TIRE SENSOR. THERE IS NO REASON FOR THIS BUT ITS THERE. THIS IS WHY I LEFT TFT FOR YOU. I AM LOSING MONEY SINCE I USE MY CAR FOR MY BUSINESS. I found myself stuck with a rusty drywall screw embedded into my four-year old rear tire. Having gone to Hank May's for my vehicle inspection a few months earlier, I gave them a call. I did have to get four new tires (I already knew my front two were 'iffy' at best due to their age, but they were quick, courteous, efficient, and reasonably priced. I cannot praise them enough! Unfortunately, a four year relationship is about to end due to Hank May's convincing, but erroneous, diagnosis of a problem, its inability/unwillingness to correct it and yet very significant charges for work and materials provided that were obviously not needed. After admissions of fault on their part, (printed on bill head) I was still charged for the most recent failed attempt though the service manager, Ian, was visibly annoyed at, yet again, hearing and feeling the continuation of the noise and vibration. However, the brazen processing of the last invoice credit card payment for this last failed attempt, with no follow up call or appointment by them to fix the problem they initially diagnosed, convinced me that Hank May best stick to selling tires and oil changes ( although twice I had to return to have them put back the oil plug properly) I have lodged a complaint with the credit card company refuting the charges for non-rendered services. Update: I have since had a different national recognized tire and auto shop road test and examine the problem. Conclusion and demonstration of the problem is tire damage from worn shocks/struts that has damaged tire(s) thus creating the whomp whomp noise that persists

I want to strongly encourage that you avoid Hank Mays in Norwalk. I would describe the work performed and service I received on my vehicle as totally incompetent. Hank Mays installed tires on my vehicle backward. I have gotten mixed information from others tire experts about the impact of installing the tires backward, but some viewed it as potentially dangerous and likely to cause problems for the tires. Furthermore, I had asked Hank Mays to save one of my "old" tires, as it had a lot of good tread left and I intended to use it as a spare tire. Hank Mays apparently forgot my instructions and threw the tire out (a personal loss of maybe a couple hundred dollars). I was surprised management was so contentious when I inquired about a refund, given how self-evident their poor service was. I secured an inadequate refund and probably would have gotten nothing at all but for my persistence. I would strongly advise that you look elsewhere for your tire and auto needs.

As the owner of a large, diesel truck, it can be maddeningly difficult to find a relatively local emissions center for testing. Even worse, at one of the 'other' test centers, the diesel equipment always seems to be broken or inoperable. This was the first time I went to this location, and I will be coming back here going forward. Within one minute, yes, 60 seconds, of pulling in, Jean aka AJ was out to greet me. He told me there was a bit of a wait, which was no problem as I was meeting a friend for lunch down the street. I got back and my truck was tested, parked, and ready to go. Another friendly associate cashed me out, same pleasant and efficient experience. Thanks guys!
