Got tires here. The folks were all very nice. All went well with the tires. That part was good. We also had new brakes and rotors installed. Unfortunately that did not go very well. We brought the car back right after they were installed because of a rubbing sound. They took the car out for a drive but no one could hear it. We brought the car back numerous times because of that rubbing sound. It was not subtle, really it was quite loud and got worse as time went on. The mechanic said he could not figure out what the problem was. Turns out the rotors were warped or faulty when the brakes were installed. Nobody wanted to fix the problem. They wobbled and thunked for about a year til we could not stand it any longer. My husband watched a Youtube video on installing brakes on our model of car. We purchased the brakes on Amazon and the install was a breeze. The cost was very reasonable. Finally smooth braking and no more noise! My advice, go here for tires, but elsewhere for mechanical service.

Groton Tire & Auto may look run-down and dirty, but the owners are honest to a fault, intelligent, and do an excellent job on everything wheel and tire related. The business is family run--all of them car nuts, based on conversations I've had with them. For those of you who track you car or participate in autocross events, they have good optical alignment equipment and have an alignment expert on standby that they call in whenever someone sets up an appointment. Other than the fact that they close early (4 PM) and don't work weekends, I have zero complaints and recommend them to my friends. Over the past two years, all of the work I've asked them to do has been done right the first time, and their prices are competitive.

My wife and I schedule an appointment weeks ago to get our tires put on. My wife took off work for that scheduled day since they do not put on snow tires past 3:30 p.m. We just called and apparently our appointment does not even exist. They now claim that they operate on a first-come first-serve basis and in fact they may not be able to put on our tires on the day that we schedule them to be. This is too bad because we planned ahead. Very shady business practices.

I don’t even know where to start. We just left Groton Tire and Auto about 10 minutes ago. It’s pouring rain and I had just picked up my 3 year old from Preschool in Ledyard (with my 73 year old step dad with Alzheimer’s and my 7 year old son with special needs in tow). Right as we pulled out of preschool pick up we knew something was wrong and found a huge bolt in our front left tire. We drove slowly with hazards on to Groton Tire. The woman at reception was so kind and compassionate and the mechanics who were just clocking out for lunch stayed and serviced our tire right away pulling the plug and patching the hole... then they refused payment and said we could go free of charge. I cried driving out of their parking lot because of their kindness and compassion. The staff tab Groton Tire have no idea the impact their kindness made in our life today. We will be life long customers for all of our tire needs from now on because of this experience. It’s so good to know there are still good people and good businesses like this in this world. Thank you Groton Tire. Thank you.

Referred by a friend and found them exactly as he described; honest, professional and most importantly, locally-owned and managed. Called and explained to Tom what I wanted for tires. He gave me a price and said he could have them that afternoon. Price was similar to ordering on-line and it included mounting as well. When I arrived they took my car right in. The installer wasn't some kid but a skilled mechanic who was meticulous with every aspect of the job. And best of all, no one tried to 'up-sell' me with unnecessary services I didn't want or need. This is the way a business should be run and I highly recommend Groton Tire and Auto.
