My husband and I have had both of our vehicles worked on here. They have been courteous and professional every time. Recently, my car was towed there by our insurance for a second time in one month, when it was not driving properly. Come to find out, it was low on oil and having issues as a result of my negligence. I felt incredibly stupid, but they were super sweet. They addressed the "check engine" light that was coming on, put oil in it, and drove it around to make sure it was okay - AT NO CHARGE. I was blown away at their kindness - things like this just don't happen these days!!! We will not take our vehicles anywhere else! Derek was the person we talked with on the phone and in person and he is so wonderful. Excellent customer service!!!

Worst place I've ever been. I take my car in for oil changes or anytime I feel something is wrong faithfully. I was having brake problems for the longest and I brought it to them back in May to get them changed just for them to sqeaul the next day. I kept going back telling them what was wrong and they claimed they fixed the problem or they could find nothing wrong all the while my brakes are still squealing. It got to the point where my car would shake terribly whenever I came to a stop. Here it is September and I've finally had enough so I decide to take my car to Midas where they show me my brakes and they are almost completely gone so what they hell were they doing at Pep Boys? Absolutely nothing! I paid out all this money for them to put old brakes right back on my car and pass them off as new. Oh and don't let me forget they put old oil back in my car when I got an oil change. They will rip you off especially older people telling you you need this and that when you don't. My girlfriend was having problems with her car and kept going to them time after time with no results. She took her car to Midas and they fixed it first time and her car drives like new. I dislike writing reviews it's a pain, but when you deserve it you deserve it. Pep Boys is literally 3 minutes from where I live. It speaks volumes when I'd rather drive up 280 20 minutes away to Midas and I despise 280. Heed my words people avoid this place at all cost. I could go on for awhile about how horrible this place is.

Just wanted to give a big thank you to this store. My son attends college in B'ham and I got a call from him 3:30pm about having a flat and that he was riding on a spare. I looked for the closest pep boys to him and this was the one. I called and spoke to Derick and explained that I lived in another state and needed to get my sons car taken care of. I called my son back and told to drop it off at the store because it would need 2 front tires. That was at 4:30. By 6:30 they called to let me know the car was ready and we took care of the bill over the phone. They were kind, understanding, and professional. A shout out to the technicians who helped get this done so quick. It was a great relief feeling like there was a company I could trust to help my family when i could not physically be there.

We have been loyal customers of Pep Boys for years, and used this location regularly for routine maintenance on our vehicles since we moved to this side of town 2 years ago. I always felt like I was getting awesome customer service and honest answers from the managers and mechanics until my last visit. I took my car in for a typical oil change, and left the car since they were busy. A few hours passed and I received a call that my rear brakes needed replacing- understandable with the amount of miles on the car and that they had replaced my front breaks recently as well. However, another hour goes by and I received another call that both the inner and outer tie rods on one side were rusted so badly that they could not be loosened to do the alignment and would have to be broken to be removed and replaced! This seemed oddly suspicious since nothing had ever been mentioned before about them starting to rust or potentially needing replacing soon. We declined them replacing the tie rods until we talked with them in person. In the office, the manager was trying to “cut us a deal” and said he had personally seen how bad the tie rods looked and that “it happened to my type vehicle all the time”. The whole situation seemed odd, so we paid for the services already complete, and I took my car elsewhere for a quote. Turns out, the tie rods were not rusted at all and the other shop was shocked that I was told that! They aligned my tires without any issue! So be careful what these guys tell you! We will not be returning to Pep Boys after this. And thankfully avoided a $250+ unnecessary “service”!

I used to have my vehicle serviced at this location. However, I decided to change and go to a place that does not attempt to up-sell you on services and replacements. My last experience is as follows: At home one day, I attempted to take a wheel off my car. I noticed that 1 of the lug nuts was cross threaded on the lug stud (mounted to hub assembly). I took it to this PepBoys location (5489 US-280 Birmingham, AL 35242) and requested that they correct this problem since this is where my vehicle was last serviced. Most likely what had happened was one of their mechanics had used an air impact driver to torque the lug nut down instead of hand ("temporary") starting it and then torquing the lug nut. The associate at the counter said that they would never make such a mistake and said that they could repair it, but it would cost me. The quote that I was provided was roughly $500-600 for the full repair. I was told that they would have to drop my rear sub-frame to get to the location of the bolt and replace it. I have a S197 Ford Mustang. Additionally, I am Mechanical Engineer with a high amount of automotive experience. Before visiting this location, I already knew that the S197 mustang does not need to have the rear sub-frame dropped for replacing a lug stud on the hub assembly. Instead of listening to the store associate, I decided to leave. I called a local Ford Dealership and explained the situation that I had with PepBoys. The Ford dealership charged me $50 to have the repair completed. From my experience with this PepBoys, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

My family will be a lifelong customer as long as nothing changes. Most service places will fix only what you ask and then send you home even if there is another issue. Pepboys does not do this. They fix what needs to be fixed and they double check everything. Granted we went in thinking one thing was wrong and found out it was something different. I'm glad they caught the issue. Being the mother of a toddler, I appreciate this more than words can say.

I don't understand why they even bother with the option to make an appointment. Appointments literally mean nothing. I made an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation at 1:00 on a Monday. I arrive around 12:40 and left the car for them to work on. I hadn't heard anything, so I gave them a call around 2:00 to check on my car. They said they only had one technician working and that my car would be the very next one worked on. 4:00 rolls around and I STILL hadn't heard anything. Fed up, I decide to drive down there, only to find that my car hadn't even moved from where I parked it! I'd had enough and just took the car home. Not only had they wasted my ENTIRE DAY, now I'll have to waste another to take my car somewhere else to ACTUALLY have my oil changed. No apologies were offered, only a snide "We only have one technician working today". They could have at least mentioned this to me when I dropped the car off. I've had a good experience with them in the past getting new tires, but this was just ridiculous . I genuinely do not believe that my car would have been ready by closing and that is unacceptable. If you do not have the personnel to do the job, at least have the decency to tell the customer BEFORE the car is dropped off, so I can take it somewhere else. And if you can't honor your appointments, don't offer them!

What a surprise! Took my car in for a tire repair - slow leak. I waited 30 mins (no appointment) in a clean, air-conditioned waiting room, while they fixed the puncture (a screw). They charged me NOTHING! They got a customer for ever. Maybe "service with a smile" is making a comeback. Wouldn't that be sweet.

Horrible service! Drove 30 minutes for my appointment that was scheduled at 11 AM. I get there and 2 men who walked in after me were greeted and asked what they needed help with before me :/ only to have them tell me that they are shortstaffed and it’ll be a minimum an hour before they can even begin to service my vehicle. When I asked about rescheduling, she proceeds to tell me that they’re booked up for the day they may be able to get me tomorrow. She even recommended I leave my vehicle ( if I was able to do that I would have done that in the first place!) Super frustrating when someone could’ve easily called and let customers know that they were running behind schedule. Completely threw off my travel plans for the day. Won’t be going back!

Should be ZERO stars because they have ZERO respect for your time! I made an appointment for an oil change for noon and came back two hours later and they hadn’t touched my vehicle! When asking why they hadn’t, a service manager said “this is the real world” regarding my appointment! Well, this is also the real world of customer service! Which is very much lacking at Pepboys! They couldn’t even offer an apology for the delay, instead got defensive and aggressive. I was glad it happened in front of other customers for them to see what they could experience with those working at this location. I was apprehensive in leaving my vehicle in the first place cause there was a discrepancy in the coupon offered online in placing my ‘appointment’. The lady at the desk said they would honor what I saw online, but after finding no service done on my vehicle after two hours was the last straw! I will NEVER bring my vehicle back to a Pepboys. I hadn’t been in a few years because we had issues with our previous car after a standard oil change. We ended up having to get a new vehicle because of the issues we began to have soon after. This was a chance at redemption and YOU HAVE BLOWN IT BIG TIME!

So I went with a flat. They couldn't repair it because the nail was on the edges of the tread. I bought 2 tires, one to replace the flat, the other to make it match. I found out at church that when they replaced the tires, they left the flat with the nail still in it! The issue was resolved, though not in time.

The over all experience was pretty painless. I was there for about 2.5 hours. My car didn't get pulled back until an hour past my appointment time on a Sunday. I got a single new tire for $116 (tire, rotate, mount, balance). That was the cheapest available (~$70 for tire). Plan ahead and schedule additional time unless you have alternate transportation.

I have an 2001 Nissan that is all of an 18 y.o. Car. So I knew it was going to be really bad when I took it to be inspected on Wednesday. I explained the situation and that I would need it for work on Friday and I knew a lot of things were wrong with it so I wanted a list of immediate repairs needed and a list of repairs that can temporarily wait. I got the lists and it was horrible to say the least. I asked how long it would take for the absolutely necessary work to be done. He said best case scenario today. My brain is thinking ‘yeah sure’. But I believed him and took his word and left at 12 pm. I just picked up my car at 630 pm Wednesday and it running good and the price I paid is the one I was quoted. So thank you guys for your honesty and helping me out. I will return for the rest of the work that needs to be done. I recommend them highly based on my first time and the fact that the best case scenario actually occurred. How often does that happen?

Let me ask you a question. Do you like your car? Do you like to be able to drive your car to work, school, or downtown? Do you like getting what you paid for? If you answered yes to any of these questions, I suggest never going to this pep boys or any of them. Quick story for whoever is reading this. One whole month without a car and 1500 dollars out of my pocket and what do I have to show for it? A car that has a leak that pep boys caused. And a car that is sitting in another shop right this second being fixed by real mechanics. Trust me. This place will do you dirty. I know what you're thinking. Well maybe I'll just go to the pep boys in pelham... Been there done that. I got the same thing. Mechanics on their 20th smoke break of the day scratching there heads saying, "we don't know what's wrong with it." Well then Mr. Pep Boy Mechanic. I'm glad it only took a month for that diagnosis. They told me that my car leaking tons of oil was just "residual" and that my clutch slipping was just because "it needed to be broken in." They actually said that to me. I won't even trust these guys to change my tires now. End rant.

Got 3 tires put on my truck and they pulled it around with only two new tires. And charged me for three . Had to come back and get them to fix it. Customer behind me waited 5 hours for them to tell him that his tires for his car is not coming in until the next day. Front staff is very professional, however the techs seem to not communicate very well and not read tickets thoroughly. Will not be coming back to pep boys .

I will not use anyone else! They have been amazing so far. Always very friendly and really helps you feel secure about what they're going to do to your car. I used to hate going to car repair places because I never knew if they were trying to just add on things I needed to make money but I have not felt this way once with Pep Boys. They have really good specials and discounts for oil changes every time I've been in and they have a rewards system if you use them however much you get coupons for anywhere from $10 off an oil change to $45 off a repair of whatever kind. If you live anywhere near 280, I would definitely go here.

I really wish I read the reviews prior to using this company. I made a 7am appointment for a job estimated by an employee to take 1-1.5 hours. I arrived at 6:55 and gave my key to the front desk workers. I then sat to wait on my vehicle. I just approached the front desk (it is now 8:40) and was told it will be another 1-1.5 hours because someone was ahead of me. Time is valuable. Don’t overbook and you will be able to honor appointments.

I recently moved to the Chelsea area and needed to get an oil change. PepBoys seemed to have the most competitive pricing with included features (free tirw rotation, topping off of fluids, free windshield cleaning, etc.) The manager is Pete and he is an incredibly nice and friendly individual. I made an appointment at 4:00 pm on a Thursday. The appointment was supposed to come with a "30 Minute Gurantee", as stated on the PepBoys website and on the receipt for my appointment. I arrived at 3:45 PM, and did not leave until 6:15 PM. Over a two hour wait for just one oil change. No discount was given besides the coupon I had printed off of the website and brought with me. I realize sometimes things get crazy and people are backed up, but upon getting back into my vehicle, I found the oil change sticker stuck to the carpet of my floorboard, as if someone had just taken the back off the sticker and thrown it into the truck. Nobody even bothered to remove the old oil change stickers either. No windshield cleaning at all, and when I got home, I checked my other fluids (wiper, etc.) and they hadn't even been touched. I also specificied that I wanted Mobil1 Synthetic oil in my appointment. They used Pennzoil according to my receipt. All in all I got a synthetic oil change for $50, but it's very hard for me to recommend them after the experience.

My friend dropped her truck off at 9:30 in the morning for a mear air leak with her front tire. She finally had to call at 1:30 after hearing nothing from them, she was then informed that her truck was just now finally put up on the rack and that it would take 20 minutes to check the tire. An hour pass by and still nothing so she calls back down there to check on the status of her truck and is told that all four of her tires are dry-rotted tires and that she needs to buy 4 new tires. Now this is after they have allowed her truck to sit there all day and the tire to go completely flat prohibiting her the option of taking it somewhere else in the event she did not want to purchase tires there due to pricing or whatever. Then she asked okay fine how much is a tire she is initially told their cheapest tire is $60 then they come back and say oh no I'm sorry that's the tire for a car the tires actually $80. I'm no idiot when it comes to cars the type of tires that go on her little truck are the same type of tires that can go on a car there's nothing special about them. Then they come back with when she tries to find out the total cost after adding the labor the tires are now $88 and it's $35 per tire to put the damn thing on. This place is not only a ripoff but they obviously have no competency in that building. They've not only lost one customer but they've lost three.

What made me mad is that technician who was working on my car was on the phone texting for at least 10 minutes! Looking through window watching him. Notice the previous reviews are old enough to possibly give this place another shot. I just got my tires changed along with a new alignment and I enjoyed it. Of course, I went and hung out with the tire tech and the mechanic the whole time. Everyone I dealt with today seemed fine and I watched everything they did. I asked questions, and got technique tips for the next time I perform certain maintenance on my car. I believe that I made a good choice today by bringing my car to this place. The guys in the bays are good and the guy I met upfront didn't try anything funny with the price. Everything I witnessed today was absolutely fine. (I am from out of state on business)

This place is awesome, I had just moved here after leaving Panama City ,Florida because Hurricane Michael took everything from myself and my family. I was driving down the street lost and my truck had every light possible flashing . I pulled in and it was minutes from closing a gentleman "I wish I new his name believe tobe management" cam to me very professional but also friendly asked what was wrong. After a brief look he pulled my truck up put 3Qrt of Oil some other fluids, air in tires and when I asked how much? He shook my hand and walked away. With a "God Bless You" yes sir God Bless You as well

I had a 2 o'clock appt to get my oil changed. They didnt get started until close to 3. I was already running behind on getting some errands taken care of. The manager inside at the time knew I was frustrated. As I was going to pay, the mgr (Pete) handed me my receipt and keys, and said "this one is on us, no charge." Keep in mind synthetic oil changes arent cheap! He explained he cared more about keeping me coming back and striving for excellent customer service is what its all about! He's right! Thanks guys! I was told that Saturday's were busy but if I made an appointment I should have my vehicle checked out in about 30 mins. I dropped my vehicle at 11:30 appointment came back TWO hours later. Vehicle sitting in same spot. They never even looked at it. Said "sorry" we're busy.

Okay, this morning I managed to wrap a 9x13 outdoor carpet around my front tire. It has been under my car for 7 years but not this morning! I cut as much off as possible but there was a portion that was stuck behind the tire (did I tell you this was at 4:30 am?). My husband is very ill and not able to help. I kept cutting for 2.5 hours and tested whether I could drive it. I called Pep Boys 280 and talked with Derek. His main concern was my safety getting there (were my brake pads impaired?) I got there and 10 minutes later, I was driving away rug free with no damage to my car. On top of that, they didn't charge me just ask that I send other people there. This is not my first weird episode (somehow picked up a hypodermic needle from a turkey baster on 280 that totally flattened my tire and they fixed it for free as well). I am sure I have given them stories over the years but it is worth it for this kind of service. We have had "normal" service there as well and they are the best.

I’ve had great service from PepBoys at that location. I drive the Tesla model SP 100 D and I have had some severe problems with my low profile tires. On several occasions I would go into the center unannounced with blowouts. They have always been very helpful in these emergency situations. So at 7 AM they’ll take care of me and allow me to get to work in Anniston on time. Great place nice people.

I’ve been to this location a few times and the front staff is friendly and professional, but even the simplest of services take abnormally long to complete (at least at the Hwy 280 location). This is a big deal because, with any mechanic shop, they charge you by the hour for work. As friendly as they are it’s hard for me to look past the slow service. I was quoted a 45 minutes wait when I came in today at 2pm but by 4pm I had to approach the desk to initiate conversation and ask for an update about my leaky tire. Then after talking with one of the employees it was later brought to my attention that I could’ve opted to try and plug the tire (for free with my previous road hazard purchase) but they didn’t offer me that. Instead they just considered the tire useless and said I had to get a new one which ended up costing me around $95. They aren’t interested in saving the customer money only their store’s bottom dollar.

Actual thieves Paid for 4 new tires and only changed two and put my flat tire back on my car. When I showed them the screw sticking out of the back of my tire they threw old tires on my car hoping I wouldn't notice. Made me wait 2 hours extra. I went into Pep Boys on Sunday morning in a dire situation. My daughter had been in a fender bender and cracked her radiator causing the car to overheat. The problem was that the bumper was bent/hanging off making it extremely hard to fix the radiator. I couldn't afford to have the car in a body shop for 3-4wks. With that said, Eldger Law(Service Manager) and Jon Glenn(head mechanic) went out of their way to help me. Not only did the fix the radiator but they managed to get the bumper back on and secure it. They said a couple hours for an oil change and alignment. 3 hours later and my car hadn't moved. I asked them they said it's in there being worked on. I proceeded to point to my car and said it's not because it hasn't moved. They took in a customer's car who showed up after mine. Apparently they don't know the difference between a 2016 Civic and an Accord or the difference between blue and gray. They wanted to reschedule. I'm never going back
