I was on a mini vacation with friends for a 21st birthday so we decided to get her first tattoo while we were there. You would think getting her first tattoo it would’ve been a little nerve racking and scary but because the atmosphere there she was perfectly fine. The receptionist is an amazing woman and knows how to make you feel welcomed. The tattoo artist are great I looked through the books of their work and honestly anyone there could’ve BODIEDDDDD my tattoo!! Butttttttt Eric did his thing I’m super in love with them he’s great and very honest and very talented! Was in Virginia Beach with my cheer team a couple days ago and a whole bunch of us wanted tattoos. The staff and artist were incredible. They were so professional and so kind and accommodating. Our artist, I think Josh was his name, stayed open way past his closing time to ensure we all got our tattoos. He was very kind and talked to all of us while he was tattooing. I’m absolutely in love with mine!

Do not go here. The owner hired a tattoo artist that he did no background check on and the artist took off with my money. The first time I contacted the shop I spoke to the receptionist who seemed like she wanted to help me resolve the issue... Then I got a phone call from the owner saying that he had nothing to do with the situation and the shop will not honor the amount I had put towards the tattoo. I asked the owner if we could solve this in the best way possible, I didn’t want a refund, just maybe another artist to do the tattoo I payed for. The owner then started to curse me out calling me a ton of different names saying that whatever I payed for was between me and the artist. I then started to receive calls from the owner threatening me with lawsuits and saying he knew my address and my wife’s numbers because it was on file when I filled out the paperwork for the tattoo. Please do yourself a favor and don’t go here. Plenty of other good shops that I’ve been tattooed by since this situation.

I wrote a honest bad review of this shop on their facebook account and the owner called me threatening me saying he'd get me fired from my job! The next day I went into work and he seriously called my job trying to contact corporate and more to get me fired. Then removed my review on his site anyway! What kind of adult business owner goes after a young persons job because of a review they could remove from their page! Stay away from this shop!

Sean Sweeney and his boys are the best! Great atmosphere and personalities in the shop, totally comfortable for a young female to go in by herself which is rare for most tattoo shops. New great location can go right down to the pharmacy to get what they advise for aftercare. Sean fixed a thigh piece I had done in my home town and was extremely unhappy with, after 2 sessions I'm in love with it and can't wait to come back for more pieces. Completely speechless for the transformation he did, don't be scared to let him do what he wants and free hand with sharpies. You will LOVE it!!! Even if you're out of state it is well worth the drive, make a weekend of it and spend time at the beach since its such a great location. Thankyou American Tattoo Art! Love you guys!

Not happy with Mitch. I decided to pick up a tattoo while I was at the beach, I read good reviews about this place and decided to stop in and check it out. Immediately felt like they did not want to do a tattoo for me, it seemed like the kept trying to talk me out of getting a tattoo. But eventually they said I could come back in a few hours for my appointment. They tried getting me to change my placement so it was easier to do. I agreed to get my tattoo on my back instead of my leg, so as I'm going back in the room, my boyfriend follows me, and Mitch, doesn't say a word, and he just shuts the door in my boyfriends face. He show me the stencil he drew up for my tattoo and before I get to actually get a good look at it, he takes it back and asks if I liked it. I told him yes, the tattoo didn't look bad but he completely re-designed the tattoo to suit him. Once we were done I finally got to look at it and there is a random dark triangle that was not there and a small mountain that was not supposed to be there either. He seems too cocky, the coloring was off and he done what he wanted to do with it. Not happy, and will not be returning. ATA just lost a customer thanks to Mitch

So as someone has followed Sean for years (5+) his work is truly amazing this new shop is a reflection of his hard work and his skill with a machine and satisfying clients. Proud owner of a gnawrly skull and rose done in a style that stands out. Plus as someone who has OCD this shop is amazingly clean. First off, If you are thinking about getting a tattoo by one of the guys at this shop, quit thinking and DO IT. I have been getting tattooed by Sweeny for years now and I send all my friends and hell strangers to this shop. All of the artists are super talented and I trust them to create the art that you are looking for. Quality of work: I cannot say enough about how beautiful and detailed the tattoos I have gotten from Sweeny are. I get stopped on the street just for someone to tell me how awesome my ink is. If I could figure out how to put a picture on my review I would. I would not get a portrait from anyone but Sweeny, and I have three portraits to attest to that. Let me tell you why you should listen to me when I say the quality of work is so fantastic. Its because I moved away from VAB 2 years ago all the way to Michigan and I still drive the 12-15 hours to get here. Atmosphere: This shop just plain makes you feel at ease. This place is clean and inviting. The front staff is super friendly and everyone is very professional. Which you may know is very rarely the case at other shops. I really though the giving you a call a few days before your appt was a really great touch. These are the people you want to have tattoo you.

I had a great experience with this place. I came in on Monday looking to get a walk-in tattoo. There I met josh, and I described the kind of tattoo I wanted (a lighthouse with a beach storm theme) and I also showed him a picture of the type of style I wanted. It turns out josh would be the perfect fit because he specializes in black/grey realism pieces. He them made me a custom design that was honestly one of the best pieces of art I’ve ever seen. He was able to get me in the next day to complete this 4 hour inner forearm tattoo (this was my first one). Throughout the whole process, he would let me take plenty of breaks and he had Netflix I could watch. I really loved his attention to detail with the tattoo. Overall it was a great experience and I’ll definitely be back!

Honestly, this place was a joke, they overcharge for their tattoos and you'll walk out with what I like to call a "foundation" as a tattoo. What I mean by this is you'll walk out with a tattoo with no detail, no coloring, no shading, no effort what so ever, just a bunch of trace lines that a 5-year-old could do, and you'll have to either go back and pay more money or go somewhere else to have your "tattoo" finished. My bank account was high and dry after going here and I was expecting a well-finished tattoo with color, detail, shading, etc. But after they "finished" they said I needed to pay more for that, after I already paid $350 for a relatively small tattoo that only took 30-45mins to do. I wouldn't recommend this place what so ever! Save some money and get a better tattoo somewhere else.

My friends and I are at Virginia Beach for vacation and decided to get tattoos very spur of the moment. We called and they said they had an artist there that could do what we were looking for. When we arrived I didn’t know what I was getting but I did have a price point and the artist was very helpful and willing to help me meet my desired price. Oh my goodness. This is the best tattoo experience I’ve ever had. My best friend and I called and asked if they could take two walk-ins, and Kasey said yes! We got there and told Kasey what we were trying to get and then had a seat in the lobby. The decor is so cool and they had that 70s show on the TV. After a few minutes I got to meet my artist, Carl. He smiled and shook my hand and made me feel right at home. He drew up my tattoo, and when it was done we got started! When I got to the room in the back, one of my favorite movies was on! Carl is great and I will definitely be back!
