Best! I was tattooed by Oscar today for a simple, but meaningful piece. He took it as seriously as I did, which meant a lot to me. He is a great guy who made the process very enjoyable. The shop is extremely clean and the staff is all super friendly. HIGHLY recommend.

Best shop ever. I've been going to Heart of Gold for years now. The first thing that drew me in was that I went into several shops to look for a good artist, and everywhere I went every artist said the same thing, "yeah, I can do that, that'd be easy man." Until I walked into HoG and talked to Oscar who told me "That's awesome man, I love the idea, but honestly that's not my style. Here, check out this artist's book, I think he might be a better fit for what you want." Talk about a class act. The shop is clean, all the guys are funny, I trust each of them to do incredible work on whatever it is I walk in with. I'm never over charged, I've actually been cut pretty sweet deals on some of my tattoos that should have cost way more than they did. I've recommended this place to anyone who asks about getting tattooed, and everyone I send here loves it. As for the girl who says, "I guess Heart of Gold didn't care about the money they would've made from me" & "I was here for a solid week and they couldn't get me in" Sounds sad that you decided to go to a shop that would squeeze you in and rush your first piece to make money off of you. Stick with shops that want you in for plenty of time to do good work, and don't just care about making a quick buck off first timers.

Great tattooists here and the price is great. Craig does amazing work, Marcos is an Asian Calligraphy tattoo master. My only complaint - professionalism means something different in the tattoo world. That means if your artist is side tracked, or is late - too bad. I've had appointments here delayed anywhere between 20-45 minutes cause the artist is side tracked. But I'm sure if you were late, you'd be charged your deposit

I had been looking around at different shops in SLC to get my next tattoo and this one by far has been my favorite. Everybody there is super friendly and funny. I worked with yogi and he was cracking jokes the whole time it kept my mind of the tattoo and made the whole experience super enjoyable. 10/10 will be going here again

I was tattooed by Andrew King a few months ago. I gave him a piece of reference art and he totally blew me away with how we tweaked it to make it exactly what I wanted. He was great about listening to me and my wants and made me feel really relaxed about getting the tattoo done. The parlor itself is very clean and has a peaceful atmosphere. I would recommend anyone looking to get a tattoo done in Salt Lake to check out Heart of Gold over any other place.

Me and my Fiance went into this shop planning on spending hundreds for her tattoo and mine. Marcos was the "artists" going to help us. He was so rude and disrespectful to us he couldn't understand what my girl wanted (a simple tree) took him so many tries to find kind of what we were looking for and with how he was treating us we said never mind and walked out. I wouldn't even give this place a 1 star if i had the option never going back and i recommend never going there.

The place looked clean and professional, the people there were relatively nice and the artist was fun to chat with but I came in knowing what I wanted and left unsatisfied everytime. I was very displeased with Gerald's skills that he blamed on other things that I later found were invalid. I got a very basic and boring tattoo both times that barely resembled what I showed him I wanted. Everyone I showed asked if I was going to add to it. After hating them more and more each day, I went in to a different shop and had a new artist add to them and make them beautiful. I would not recommend and have actually told many people not to go here.

I came in asking for a couple small tattoos behind my ears. The artist Marcos printed the stencil of the words off, didn’t draw them up, which is fine, but the tattoo itself took less than 5 minutes and I was charged $100. My last tattoo took 2 and a half hours and covers the entire back of my arm and I was charged $160. Total ripoff. Especially with small tattoos you think won’t be expensive work out the price beforehand.

Got my first tattoo here, Yogi was absolutely amazing. Very kind and very patient, he answered all my questions happily and thoroughly, including tellibg me and showing me proof of the sterilization process for the equipment used. He was quick and my tattoo came out looking great and healed nicely. Absolutely wonderful staff and a great environment!!

After reading all the great reviews on heart of gold tattoo's Facebook, yelp, and many other online sites; I thought they would be the best place to get my first tattoo. I was very disappointed to find out that they had horrible customer service and didn't want to listen to me. Then when I asked them to give my name and number to the visiting artist they gruggingly took my information. When I called back a few hours later to see if he was back they said he haven't returned from lunch. And even though I was going to be in town for a solid week they could not find any time to fit me in. I was willing to pay for a good tattoo I had budgeted for at least 600 for my first tattoo. The artist I did find to help create my tattoo made a great tip from me for the amazing job she did. She got about 30% tip. But I guess heart of gold tattoo doesn't have any interest in money from a clean canvas. I would never go back here.

I am only rating an artist and not the entire shop. If you decide to get a tattoo, I recommend avoiding Allie. She had me waiting for over an hour, after the stencil was already set ready to be worked with. Once I had a finished tattoo, I noticed some thick lines and other lines not showing at all that were supposed to. We had set a date for me to come back in to clean up some of the bad lines. She dropped my time and date with out giving me a notice. When I tried to text her she never responded and when I tried calling, it went to voicemail. I left a message and never heard back. WORST TATTOO EXPERIENCE.

Very disappointed. Did my research then stopped by today to talk with someone about getting my first tattoo. The young man at the counter poo-pooed my idea and told me that my artist was booked into eternity. When I started to ask about a different artist or modifying my idea, he just turned and walked away - mid sentence! Such disrespect. I guess my money is not good enough for them. Was prepared to pay whatever amount needed (hundreds!). Will NEVER EVER GO BACK. June 7, 2016

I am glad that someone suggested I go to the heart of gold tattoo shop. I found the employees all very pleasant to interact with. They were willing to work with me on the particulars of what I needed done. I went to the shop originally with an open mind on the design and asked for ideas and suggestions. The artist was willing to accommodate me on the matter. I found the experience well enough to have returned for more tattoo work. The rates were good as well in my opinion. They have a fair amount of designs visible throughout the studio for people to see what the various artists are capable of doing. Good choice overall in my opinion. Will return when I want more work done.
