My husband and I just got matching tattoos done by Tyler, and we love them! We knew we wanted bears, and that's about it. He suggested a spotted technique that really makes them pop! It was overall and extremely pleasant experience. Although the price is a little higher than it is back home, we are so impressed with our tats and the service, we intend to come back to Gatlinburg for any other work we want done. It is worth the wait and the trip.

I went here with a couple of my sisters looking to get a small tattoo. From the moment we entered Rich have us attitude and acted like we weren't worthy of his time. Tyler, did our tattoos, and unlike Rich he was friendly and welcoming. Not only did Tyler make us feel at home he also did some great work. But because Rich made us feel so uncomfortable and because he treated us so badly we won't be getting a tattoo from there again.

We stopped by in late July while we were visiting the Smoky Mountains in celebration of our 10 year wedding anniversary. My wife and I were interested in getting couples tattoos. Our first impressions were great. Very clean studio, friendly faces, and most importantly, not intimidating at all. This was going to our first tattoos for both of us so we were very nervous. Tyler was just finishing up and offered to help us. We had a general Idea what we wanted and he saw our vision and captured it perfectly. We love our designs and are thrilled about our decision to stop by. Thanks to Tyler and Mad Tatter Studios, we will have this art to remember our trip forever and also to commemorate 10 years of marriage. I just recently turned 18 and was looking to get my first tattoo, I heard about the owner and heard he was a great artist along with all of the other artists there. I went in and got a price on my tattoo (my mother's name in Japanese), very affordable, only $100. I went in the next day and got my tattoo. I met the owner, who was hilarious and treated everyone in the shop with the utmost respect. My artist, although I cannot remember his name, was funny and helped me through my anxiety of my first experience. The tattoo turned out great and still looks incredibly good. I will definitely come back for my next one!

My wife had a tattoo done yesterday by Tyler. She has a syndrome called GBS and wanted a tattoo that symbolized her condition. I was so impressed with the staff who took a great intrest in what she is and has gone thru. Went in for my first tattoo yesterday and I couldn't have been happier with mad tatter. Eric was awesome and super friendly! He was finishing another tattoo when we came in but as soon as he was done he came and introduced himself. I think he might have been more excited about my tattoo idea than I was! My fiance and I walked in a couple days ago to get our first tattoos. We had previously spoken to another shop in town who had quoted us less, but we decided to come here because it was clear to us that the quality would be much better. Everyone was very friendly and professional. They were even able to help us out right away. Tyler did my tattoo and Rich did my fiance's. Tyler did an excellent job with my simple design. Super clean lines and really took the time to make sure the placement was perfect. While the price was more than the other shop, I thought that price was very fair for the quality we received. Awesome awesome tattoo shop. Jenni is the best! she was super patient, light handed and drew a wonderful piece for my calf. Fundamentally perfect. No choppy lines, color isn't splochy and her shading is great. It took her a little longer than expected but she stayed open an extra 3 hours to make sure my tattoo was done and done correctly. Everyone there is nice, respectful, responsible, talented and fun. Unfortunately, Google only allows 5 stars.

My husband and i both got tattooed here about a month ago on our honeymoon. We walked in on a fairly busy Saturday night and we were still greeted immediately. There were around 4 people ahead of us getting tattoos but Tyler still took the time to get our picture ideas together and come up with a stencil for us. He even resized it a few times for me so that we were happy. The wait was not nearly as long as expected. The owner of the shop did our tattoos (forgive me but I’m drawing a blank on his name!). Although they were busy he didn’t rush through either tattoo and made sure that we were both happy before wrapping them for us. Our tattoos have healed up great with absolutely no issues and they still look wonderful! The shop was clean and the staff was friendly. All around a great experience!

Walking in the place is a little small and there aren't private rooms for tattooing. But don't let this fool you. When I initially went in just to get some pricing I was instantly helped upon walking in the door and came back a few hours later to put my idea in motion. Robbie did my tattoo and he's an amazing artist! This was my very first tattoo, really decent sized, and I couldn't be more happy with it. He took my idea and ran with it and it's VERY beautiful. I got my tattoo to represent my childhood of growing up on lakes, life, and love of lakes and oceans. My tattoo was reasonably priced (supposed to be $250) but I received $50 off for having to wait. Although it wasn't a long wait at all, I just had to wait for him to draw a little bit and sit up his station to tattoo me. I actually liked being able to watch him set up his station because you were able to see the all new needles and equipment coming out of the sterilized packages. I am so happy and I would definitely come back here. Good pricing, fun environment, great artists!

If you’re from out of town BEWARE. This place will overcharge you and take advantage of you simply because you’re from out of town. While Martin is a great artist and I have no complaints about my tattoo itself, I will say, that in my opinion, he is a thief. I was charged $572 for a 3 hour tattoo. A three hour tattoo at $150 an hour comes to a total cost of $450 + tax. While I believe in paying for quality, I did feel like he ‘milked the clock’ to increase his profit. My tattoo is simple and did not require three hours, especially from a talented and experienced artist. The reason I feel like I was stolen from is because I paid $110 as a deposit to hold my spot. I received an invoice that states it is a DEPOSIT. Since it’s a deposit I was under the impression that the $110 would come off the total of the tattoo. That’s the way it works in most businesses and how the deposits were applied in previous tattoos I’ve had done. When Martin finished my tattoo I was told by Tyler, who handled the check-out process, that the $110 would in fact come off the total. Since it was a three hour tattoo the total came to $450+ tax. My balance was to be $340 + tax. Instead my card was charged $462. With the $110 deposit I ended up paying $572 total! I was not given a receipt and I had the tattoo done on the day I was heading back home from my vacation. It was not until I got back home that I realized that I had been overcharged. I called the tattoo studio to explain the error. I spoke to an artist that told me the deposit should have come off the total. I was told to email Martin and everything would be fine and the charge would be taken off. By then I had been told a few times that I had paid a deposit that was to come off of the balance and had hope that this ‘error’ would be corrected. I was wrong. After several emails back and forth I was told that they did not overcharge me. That, in their opinion, they had given me a deal because Martin normally charges $200 an hour. Their Facebook page clearly states $150 an hour and I was told that he charges $150. I was never told I was receiving a ‘deal’ in any of the emails that were exchanged prior to me entering their studio to have my tattoo done, nor during or after the work. Also, as I stated above, my invoice for the $110 clearly states it’s a deposit. The dictionary defines a deposit as ‘a sum payable as a first installment on the purchase of something or as a pledge for a contract, the balance being payable later’. I was also told in those email exchanges discussing the overcharge, that Martin doesn’t work at the studio and just came in to do my tattoo. That is a clear lie as he is put forth as the owner of the studio. One room, which is clearly his work area, has his face on the walls. During the time he was doing my tattoo he went on a “smoke break” and came back reeking of weed. Then proceeded to say things to hint at the fact that he was high. In my opinion, that is completely unprofessional behavior from a business owner. I did check reviews before I decided on this studio but I should’ve done more digging or research into this business and their practices. The rude, condescending, sarcastic replies regarding bad or less than stellar reviews were clearly present online, on multiple platforms. When I mentioned that in an email some of those replies or the whole review was then removed. But there are many still out there. So, behaving unprofessionally is common practice for this business. I fully expect some of the same behavior in response to this review. I just want out-of-towners to beware. There are many talented tattoo artists out there, who are also trust worthy and professional. Unfortunately, that is not the case with Martin and his studio.

My husband got his very first tattoo here. We visited every tattoo shop around and This guy was the friendliest. The spot where he is located looks a little run down connected to a hotel, but as soon as you open the door you are greeted with great customer service. All equipment was sterile and bagged how it should be (I googled everything so he wouldn’t die of ink poison). He never once minded to move around the drawing being that my husband asked him three times to erase the print and move it around just to make sure it was perfect. And he was finished with the tattoo in a very timely manner. Just a little treble cleft but He sis an awesome job! Lines were perfect and everything. I would TOTALLY give this guy 6 stars if I could!!!

My artist, Eric was super friendly and down to earth. He made sure everything was clean and sterilized before starting which is definitely a must! My tattoo looks great and is just what I wanted. Made sure everything lined up and was perfect. My husband duplicated my tattoo on his leg and Rich drew it beautifully. I actually think it turned out better than my original tattoo. We couldn't be happier. Highly recommend. The shop was clean and sanitized. Both artists were knowledgeable about their art and it really showed in the work they performed. We couldn't be happier.

Love this place, I was in Tennessee on vacation and wanted to get a tattoo. Went to a couple of other places before going to The Mad Tatter, but was not feeling the vibes of the other places. Tyler was the one who tattooed me, he was great, very nice people there, very chill, clean, and professional.
