Let me start off by saying that Rich and his staff are amazing! I emailed the shop a few months ago with just a vague idea and ended up a very clear picture in my head. The email communications back and forth were very timely and specific. I ended up booking and already had my first session. I felt very comfortable at the shop and was happy that Rich was so personable. It also felt like he really cared. While finishing up my outline I began to feel faint, Rich and Sarah immediately tended to me to make sure I was ok. The sour gummy worms were a lifesaver! Thanks so much guys and I look forward to coming back in soon.

Bottom Line: Rich seems to want full control. Easily frustrated. Full story: Rich uses a third person to do all his communication, Sarah. She is very sweet, very caring and professional, so I didn’t mind. I originally called to talk about getting a full-sleeve tattoo by Rich. After talking to Sarah for about an hour on the phone, I booked a full-day appointment for two weeks out for the outline. I told them I just wanted a spooky, dark, Halloween-feeling sleeve in neo-traditional style. This was wholly in the realm of what Rich does. Everything was fine at this point. I emailed them one specific reference of something I liked, and a sketch of an arm to make sure we were on the same page as far as how it flowed, since I was confused. That was it. Initially, I was told Rich isn’t “into that.” But Sarah said to take my time to think of some more things. They gave an idea of a gauntlet holding a mace and I said I wasn't sold on the idea. It was then that, before I even replied, Rich himself popped in to email chain to tell me that he refunded my deposit and that he doesn’t need diagrams or references and, essentially, no longer wants to work with me. He was not disrespectful, but he came off as arrogant. He was totally annoyed that I dared to send him reference material. It put Sarah in a tough spot of having to defend his mood swing on the phone even though she clearly didn’t understand it. Let me make this clear: I sent only one reference tattoo and he was done. Not to mention it was to Sarah because it was Sarah and I having the convo. I called the shop, and Sarah said Rich doesn’t like to work with customers he feels are controlling… I GAVE ONE EXAMPLE and was totally flexible! Not to mention, Rich himself didn’t speak to me one time! Bizarre! I am just dumbfounded. What I want you all to take away from this is go to an artist that is willing to make you happy and is not easily frustrated by customers. It felt as if I was making an application to pay him over $100 an hour. Make no mistake—it is business and artists are applying to YOU and your skin. There are a lot of good artists in the greater Philadelphia area. He just had a sooner availability… I think I get why.

Went in for a consultation a while ago and asked for some crystals that looked like they were growing out of the ground. The girl told me it would look weird because thats not what crystals look like and i really had to try not to laugh because i think she actually believed crystals just come out looking like perfect wand form and not growing clusters. Anyways it was unperfessional so i just left. Also my friend asked for like five tiny paw prints and she said it would cost like 200 to 250. Ive gotten a tattoo the size of two fists together for that price. Completely unbelievable. Went to black cat instead and got great prices and tattoos. Heard that chris guy is super good though.

Relic is an awesome place to go for a tattoo. Everyone is super friendly which really helps make the whole experience a lot nicer! They also play a movie which is nice to re-direct your attention! Jessica did an amazing job on my tattoo which was a memorial paw print for my dog. She was very helpful throughout planning it and coming up with the perfect design. It did not take her as long as I expected to do the tattoo and it is better than I ever could have imagined it would be! Thanks Jessica and Relic staff!

Been going to rich since he worked at another shop, so about 6-7 years been to Rich Wren. Followed him to his own shop Relic Tattoo. He has sleeved my arm, did a portrait of my son, and did two cover ups, that seemed impossible to cover. But he did it with ease. Professional, clean, honest and good prices. You get what you pay for for anyone bitching on prices. Hourly rate is what it is. I’ll be back in the coming weeks.

Got my Bleach thigh piece done here by Chris, and it was the best experience with an artist I've ever had! Knows what he's doing and he's VERY very good at what he does. If I could give this more than 5 stars I definitely would. Very professional, made sure that I understood what he was doing while he was doing it, explained the aftercare perfectly. Thank you so much Chris! The shop was also very welcoming, and a very nice and warm environment. VERY very happy with my experience here.
