I received a tattoo from the artist Sharon and from the get go she was not the nicest towards us, she made me feel difficult for asking questions about the design. Then my brother and I got our small tattoos and loved the final product. But within a month they started to fade. I have had tattoos before so I know how to properly take care of them, so that they do not fade. It has now been about 6 months and they look awful. I need a touch up already and it looks like I've had it for years. This is so frustrating, considering how much we paid for one small letter tattooed.

Defining Skin is an amazing place to get a tattoo. The shop is clean, the artists are friendly, and the artwork is top notch. I have gotten tattoos from other places but nothing compares to this shop. Although Mike did an amazing jog on both of my tattoos, I would highly recommend any of the artists at Defining Skin.

I was at my appointment early and the artist still could not finish the first session in its entirety bc he had another appointment after me. Which I was not okay with but I didn’t say anything. Also he told me my deposit would come off of my first session (the outline) which was a lie bc when I asked he said that it would come off of the last session (shading). Overall I wasn’t completely happy with the outline. It’s on my arm so it’s not something I can hide. Not the worst experience but I don’t feel the artist lived up to his portfolio and I will be having my tattoo finished elsewhere.

She has a light touch, and I can honestly say that I hardly felt a thing while she was tattooing my shoulder. I am due for another tattoo and don't currently live in Ohio, but have been waiting until I can visit Columbus just so I can go here. I first found this shop passing through Columbus on a road trip. I went to Nate for a quarter sleeve consisting of a lily and he did an amazing job. I get compliments on it constantly. I did a lot of research before choosing where to get my first tattoo ! After reading the reviews and looking up what the artists specialize in I chose to go with Kam. I told him my idea and he came up with my design since I’m not the artistic kind and I absolutely fell in love with it. The shop is clean, he is extremely nice and professional but at the same time personable ! We did my tattoo in one session and it took about 6 hours. I don’t think I could have had a better artist do my tattoo. If you’re looking for quality, talent, and at a price that won’t break the bank Kam is your guy :) Everyone at the shop was nice as well ! Remember you get what you pay for . It’s worth the price !

Nate is absolutely AMAZING!!! His precision, details, and original designs are phenomenal!! My husband and I have been trying to find a great tattoo studio and came across Nate's work. As we all know it's always difficult to find a new tattoo artist. We walked in and my husband passed on to him what design he was looking for and Nate just ran with it. Better than even we imagined!! He is a HUGE Star Wars fan and had an original design he's been wanting to try out... So totally worth it!! You will not be disappointed if you ask for Nate!

Myself, my sister, and my mom came in for tattoos this past week, and we honestly could not be happier now. We got in for appointments with Mat because he had a cancelation, so we feel really lucky. Mat was so wonderful to work with--he understood exactly what each of us wanted and was so kind and funny to each of us. The tattoo he gave me is honestly better than I could have ever expected, and I know my sister and mom agree. It was such an amazing experience, and I'm already plotting how I'll travel back to Ohio from Montana to visit Mat again for another one in the future! Great vibes from Defining Skin. Went today for my first tattoo, it was on my back and self drawn, my artist was Mat and he did an amazing job modifying my design. Although I work with Sharon, everyone there has been super nice & very professional in their actions & words. Sharon is one of the kindest people I know, who is a "people person" & a fantastic artist. Every step is followed, before & after the tattoo is placed, from gloves & hand washing to clean up & aftercare instructions. Facility is huge & clean, no odors or junk around. A LOT of talent works there, & I would highly recommend them to a future tattoo recipient!

However, when I communicated the issue, the owner Mike contacted and resolved the issue immediately. Great Studio! I got my first tattoo at the defining skin downtown! The atmosphere is good and the artist really give you the feeling of being in good hands. The tattoo was done extremly well and good into the smallest detail. I can highly recommend that studio! Our artist was Zac who did a phenomenal job. Also the booking was really good and fast, I only had two weeks before I left again for Germany and wanted to get it done before that. Zac is doing a really good job and is also really spontaneous with his appointments. My experience at Defining Skin Downtown was really great!

Kam as an artist is beyond amazing. I've never really went in with a solid idea but he's never let me down. He always creates something unique and knocks any idea of mine out of the park. I receive compliments daily on his work and comments on how well they've held up over time. The shop is always super clean and any time I'm in there the artists who aren't assisting other clients always say hi to me or have a conversation with me which is nice. Definitely love coming in here and look forward to the next time! You definitely won't leave disappointed coming here.

Panda is currently working on a custom piece. I told Panda that he has free range on what he wants to do with this piece and he is doing an awesome job. The piece is from the video by the Amity Affliction "Open Letter" I am getting the chorus lyrics on my left shoulder/arm area ("I'm not searching the sky for a reason to live 'cause I found beauty right here and the passion to give. Let me give you my heart, left me give you my tears. Let me give you my life, let me give you my fears") I am sure this was an extreme challenge to Panda, but DAMN is he doing an awesome job. The first session was 4 hours and the piece looks sweet... So stoked to get it finished... Thanks Panda. About the place... The staff is friendly. Very conversational and engaged. The Apprentice(s) are very in-tuned to Tattoo Mike's work and Panda's work. The place is extremely clean with a great environment. However, Tattoo Mike, we have to quit rocking out to 40 year olds rock... lol j/k bro. Seriously, I have been to other shops and this establishment is 100% TOP NOTCH without a doubt.

My fiance and I chose Defining Skin because of its reputation and stellar reviews, and we were not disappointed. This was my first tattoo, and Mat Franklin was phenomenal. We had general ideas of what we were looking for, but I needed help bringing it all together. We consulted with Mat for about 2 minutes and he already had awesome direction in mind. Actually getting the tattoo done was a great experience as well. Really fun, laid back atmosphere in the shop between artists. Was also blown away how quickly Mat worked (not rushed). My piece had a lot of fine lines/details and it came out so clean and crisp. If I get more work done in Columbus I won't go anywhere else.

Cam was incredibly kind and patient with me. This was my first tattoo but I'm so impressed and pleased with it. He talked me through everything and by the time the needle hit my skin, my fear was gone. He gave detailed instructions on how to keep it clean, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. Mat went above and beyond and I couldn't be happier. The tattoo turned out incredible! I was so pleased, in fact, I made another appointment before I left after getting my tattoo done! I had previously written this review: I haven't gotten a tattoo here yet, but I have an appointment next month to get a tattoo covered up, which I couldn't be more excited about (I will update this/add a photo after my appointment)! When I went in to meet the artist who will be doing the cover up for me, however, I instantly noticed how clean the shop is, and how much the artists were completely absorbed in their work, which is always a good sign (no one wants their tattoo artist distracted/not fully focused on their work). The artist I reached out to, and who will be doing the cover up for me, Mat, is super professional, approachable, and funny, so I can't wait to start working with him. Needless to say, I'm not at all surprised that this is one of the highest rated shops in Columbus. I will say, however, that they're booking very far in advance (like, beginning of 2018), which is the only down side!

As of 2017-18 (SHOULD BE ONE OR ZERO STARS NOW - google wouldn't let me adjust starts...) UPDATE: Sometime shortly after my tattoo, he (Steve) moved or opened his own shop. Long story short: Since my tattoo wasn't totally completed, I contacted shop to schedule was told he moved, etc; tried to schedule w/new artist who referred me to him b/c no one wanted to do work after another artist. Called Steve several times at new shop, left messages on vm and texted him from number I had, etc. NEVER returned my call; I'm certain he remembers me after sitting in his chair on two different occasions for total EIGHT hours..so another artist from Defining Skin got in touch with him, relayed messages from him to me...I asked artist why he wasn't calling me back was just told he got my messages and that I should call him again..not sure why or what happened or why he couldn't take a moment to say he could/would not be able to finish it etc..but just want to recant my review of his service: Meanwhile..$800 later; Tattoo is still unfinished.. I would never use or refer him again to anyone or Defining Skin. Extremely disappointed especially since no other artists wants to continue work he started.

This a wonderful tattoo place, very industrial looking. Clean and the staff is wonderful and gifted. I had a large arm piece done by Mat that is absolutely gorgeous. He is a very gifted artist with a a background in illustrative and contemporary art. On top of all this they are very reasonably priced. If you are into ink this the place to go. I drove 120 miles to see Mat and it was well worth the drive.

Mike Thomas is one of the most friendly and skilled in his profession. He has been my go to guy for anytime I want a unique piece of art on my body. As long as Mike decides to tattoo, He will be the only choice for me in Columbus. I have had tattoos done at other shops around and they just seem rushed and over priced. Sam at Defining Skin finished up my piece a couple of months ago and it is fantastic. He did a traditional americana sleeve for me in a black and gray scale and it is a piece of art. I get compliments everywhere I go on this thing, and not just from others with ink but all different sorts of people. Goes to show that ink can be art and everyone appreciates it when it's done right. I can't say anything but great things about this shop. The atmosphere is laid back and if you are sitting in the chair for eight hours at a time it definitely helps the time pass. I recommend this shop to those going for their tenth tattoo, getting something touched up or first timers. You will not find a better experience and price than Defining Skin.

He’s super friendly and funny and a great artist. The owner was super cool also. The place is very clean and nice. Definitely would tell people to go here!

AMAZING experience at this shop. My first tattoos ever and I went to Natalie because she was highly recommended and I was not dissapointed. The shop is so cozy and the staff was super cool in making the whole experience amazing for me and the ink looks GREAT.

Well let me start by saying I'm a traveler so it so hard to set appointments. This was saturday 4-22 and i leave monday 4-24. I wanted a piece on my chest ( large flying dragon ) refreshed and made better. So after googling and deciding on defining skin Columbus. I called and left message because they aren't open yet . Then decided to go at 1130am and wait til they did open. But long story short I walked in and of course as I had already figured place was booked but Parker took the time to see what I needed. Although he was booked and everyone else for that matter he took my info and said he'd try to help me out. Low and behold 2 hours later which I really didn't expect i get a call from Parker saying come on down man I had a no show. Last part of story everyone was saying Parker was the Dragon fixer up guy . Well let me tell you Parker IS the Dragon fixer up guy.. Amazing job i couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Guy is great he is personable and just all around awesome guy. I will be scheduling my trips to return to have other pieces reworked and refreshed with him... But let me add one more thing the whole entire shop is just the place to be they are all the greatest group from their attitude to the stories ha but won't get into that you need to experience that for yourself ...simply put if I chose a group of people to hang with they would be too of my list.... Sorry for the long post but lot to say about this great shop. Thanks again Parker see you soon

I loved it there! I had Chi Chi and she was the best! I got my first tattoo and it went so smoothly and didn't even hurt. Everyone there was friendly and I literally got my tattoo the day after I went in to ask about getting one! I will definitely be going back for more in the future. Update: Finally got my second tatto based off of the secret club in Angel Beats! It looks amazing! Chris Naderer did it and did an absolutely amazing jobs. He mixed the colors to be exactly what I wanted and took his time to get it just right! Definitely will be going back once I decide on my next tattoo! Thank you Chris!
