You will see all the reviews of real people like you who consume the products of Mad Ethel\'s Tattoo & Body Piercing (Tattoo Shop) near North Carolina.
Nowadays the firm gets a score of 4.9 out of 5 and this rating has been based on 230 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is virtually the highest, and it is based on a high number of feddbacks, so we may think that the evaluation is quite reliable. If people have bothered to leave their opinion when they've done well with the service, it works.
You know that we don't usually bother to set feddbacks when they are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...

Their work was amazing. I got my tattoo about a week ago and I can’t complain. The place is very clean, very friendly workers and my artists was awesome (Robby). I will definitely be back for another tattoo and recommend this place to others
I started a piece with Candice last week and I could not be happier. She is an incredible artist. The entire staff was very friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to start getting some color put in.
I tried to change out my initial nose stud piercing at home and just could not remove it. Looked on line for a shop with great reviews and found Mad Ethel's Tattoo & Body Piercing to have the best ones. I was a walk-in on a Sunday afternoon so I had to wait a bit. However, it was so worth the wait! Lilly was awesome and very gentle with my piercing. She explained how I had irritated the area quite a bit with trying to remove the stud on my own. Turns out my stud had a screw capsule so I was trying to remove it inproperly. My piercing was done in another state and the technician did not explain to me beforehand what type of stud was being used. The staff was very friendly and organized. The space very clean and Lilly was the bomb! I highly recommend Mad Ethel's and Lilly if you are looking for a great place to go for nose piercing!
Badass shop with a badass crew.
I went here and got my belly pierced by Lilith! She was great and super friendly. I plan to come here to get my first tattoo whenever I decide what I want.
Lily did a fantastic job on my second lobe piercing. They were able to book me an appointment two days after I called. Lily was so professional and did such a great job at making me feel comfortable. She was very gentle and quick. My ears were pierced in no time and with minimal pain! I highly recommend her and this shop!
I have had both tattoo work and piercings done here and they never fail to do everything right. The people are awesome and I can't recommend them enough. But make an appointment...they are booked solid for tattoos for good reason, so don't be surprised to wait.
I am very demanding when it comes to tattoos. I went to Steve with a folder of twenty two photos showing what I wanted for my sleeve and shoulder. He was able to take what I wanted and go with it, producing amazing results. At this point we've done thirty three hours of tattoo, from my left wrist full sleeve up to and over my shoulder down my back. I told him I wanted it good enough for a tattoo magazine. That's what he produced. Amazing work, completely satisfied.
You didn’t need ID if you were under 16 just a parent, which really helped us out. It was very fast and everyone was helpful.
My first lobe piercings were done here. My piercer was awesome and super accommodating and made me feel very comfortable. She also answered all my questions :)!
Great artists and atmosphere
Awesome People,Very Friendly,Great Work. Cliff is Da Man!! Big Mahalo'S!!
I waited 20 years before finally getting my first tattoo, and I absolutely like the result! Steve did my tattoo, he was recommended by my manager, and I have nothing but the best to say about him and his staff. Their shop / studio / work stations are super clean, and the studio's atmosphere and layout flows nicely, so you will feel at ease and relaxed when you are laying on the chair! I already have my next appointment scheduled!
I had my first appointment at Mad Ethel's with Candice this past weekend - she is a fantastic artist with a great attention to detail, and she made me extremely comfortable with my first tattoo experience! I am very pleased with the jellyfish design she developed for me, I love it already just in outline form and can't wait to get back in to keep working on what I know will end up being an amazing piece. The shop was great in general, with a relaxed vibe, and I would definitely recommend it.
Jen is fantastic. Got three cartilage piercings done. She was very informative, walking me through every step of the process, piercing care, the importance of metal types, etc. She is also very caring. When my piercings were becoming irritated due to my rough sleeping patterns she saw me immediately to change them out to smaller studs and they have been perfect ever since. Definitely sticking with Jen for any future piercings. I've also heard nothing but great things about their tattoo artists and plan on getting my future tattoos done here.
Steve is the best in Raleigh hands down. I only let him tattoo me.
Very friendly and welcoming staff! They made sure I was comfortable and even had snacks. Will go back again!
Absolutely amazing work. Couldn't be happier from the time I walked through the door until the time I left. I got a half sleeve so it wasn't just a small piece. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Mad Ethel's is the real deal!
Very nice and welcoming environment. Ive gotten a few piercings now from Lillith- super friendly & sweet girl. She has a great selection of jewelry to choose from when getting pierced. I will 100% be coming here for all my future piercings
Absolutely the best tattoo shop in Raleigh!
I found this shop when I wanted to get my cheeks pierced and nobody was willing to do it until talking to Lilly. Not only did she do a challenging piercing for me, she did it very well. Since then I've gone to her for all my piercings and she has done some of the scariest ones for me and always made me feel safe and comfortable.
I found Mad Ethel's when a friend recommended Steve to me, because he did a great job on her custom tattoo a while back. It turned out that his schedule was full, but Anton had some availability. I went for a consultation with him that night to discuss my design ideas, what would work, and what wouldn't. The shop is clean, lovely, and comfortable, and everyone I met was friendly. My favorite thing about Anton is his honesty. He is certainly an expert at what he does, and is not shy with his opinions. Knowing little about tattoos myself, I definitely needed some guidance as far as what would look best. The tattoo I ended up with is different than my original (vague) vision, but so much better. Since this was my first tattoo and it's supposedly in a fairly sensitive area, I was a little nervous when I came back a few days later for my appointment. As soon as Anton and I started finalizing the design details, my nervousness was replaced with excitement. He kept tweaking it until it was just right, so that by the time I got into the chair, I knew it would be great. It also helped that he has a fun, outgoing personality. Though I have no previous experience, I think the actual tattooing process was as pleasant as getting a tattoo can be. Anton was professional as far as sterilization precautions and whatnot, but kept the mood light by chatting and cracking jokes with me. He was really meticulous and took his time, even though it was way past closing. I could tell he was taking care to make it as comfortable as possible for me. I would trust any of the artists at Mad Ethel's with my next tattoo, and of course I highly recommend Anton. I am SO thrilled with my new tat!
I love Mad Ethel's , I was never a person that get tattoo's until my dad pass November 29, 2015. I went On a trip to Raleigh North Carolina with my bestfriend that March of 2016 and drove past. I stopped and went in and met Ember I told her why I was there and she listened to me and she took the memories that's I told her and created a memory for me that would last forever ( my first tattoo ever in life). Every year I drive 5 hours from Baltimore to see Ember because she continues to create ever lasting memories , that even though my dad is gone he will always be with me.
My favorite place to get tattoos and piercings
These Tatoo artists know what they are doing. Cool and clean place. Clif is great !
Lilly is amazing! Great customer service! I'll be going back.
Jovani was amazing and so patient with me. I absolutely loved my experience there
Excellent, professional work. Above and beyond service!!!
Mike the shop manager is nothing BUT professional. We maintained communication all the way up until my appointment date which was booked almost four months out. Popular places and artists get busy quickly, and I can see why now. Mike assured me I wouldn't leave without something I liked and he was one hundred percent correct. I am in love! This was my first tattoo and a wonderful experience. Paul the artist is just as professional and highly skilled in his work. I am beyond excited to have my first piece done by such a talented artist. I'd love to come back and recommend this location to my friends!
I made an appointment with Chris awhile back and I’m so glad I did! I was welcomed at the desk and the process start to finish was easy. I’ve never heard anything bad about Mad Ethels and I really enjoyed my experience there. Highly recommend!
Very courteous staff, easy to deal with
We did ear piercings at here, and it’s my first time doing this. We went there around 4 pm and parked at the back of the store. We showed our ID and signed up an agreement. Lily is friendly and patient with us. We picked out the earring and discussed where we want to pierce. The price is a little bit expensive but the service is great and professional. We would recommend this place for friends want to do ear piercing and may go here for tattoos in the future.
I can't say enough good things about my experience at Mad Ethel's. I knew nothing about getting tattoo and had wanted one for so long. From my first contact via email with my desired design idea to helping me figure out placement and how the design needed to be modified to the finished product, I could not be happier. Not only do they provide superior service to their customers, they also clearly offer kindness and compassion to their downtown neighbors/community.
My first tattoo was with Dimos and I had a great experience. Awesome staff and atmosphere. Looking forward to going back.
Nikkie was fantastic to my mom and I. She was very helpful and creative!! She did great work, plus the atmosphere/ shop was cool.
Great music. Very cool staff. Super friendly and willing to take time to talk to you and make sure you get exactly what you want.
This place is awesome. Best tattoo shop in town for sure. Super nice staff and very sanitary. Chris did an amazing job. We'll be back!
Super chill place, everyone was very nice. The tattoo was perfect i dont think it could have came out any better, they even sent a thank you card which is mad chill too. Most certainly will go back for whatever tattoo im going to get in the future, thanks so much!
After months of searching, I finally settled on Mad Ethel's for my first tattoo, and I could not be more impressed. This is the real deal. The shop owner, Mike, is the nicest guy in the world, and made me feel right at home from the very first phone call. My piece is small and simple, and they were able to fit me in the next week. The shop itself is incredibly clean and has a nice little lounge area for waiting guests. My artist, Ember, did a fantastic job on my final piece (a date in roman numerals) and I left the shop with crisp, clean lines. The aftercare provided and suggested is top tier and everyone at the shop was very dedicated to making sure I was happy with my piece. Mike even hugged me before I left the shop, and gave me a goodie bag with some stickers, a business card, and a detailed description of what I needed to do to take care of the new ink. A week later, I received a letter in the mail reminding me to keep unscented lotion on the tattoo and thanking me AGAIN for choosing Mad Ethel's. For the quality of work, Mad Ethel's is very reasonably priced. You get so much more for your money here than you would anywhere else. I would recommend Mad Ethel's to ANYBODY looking for some new ink.
I am the type who reads a zillion reviews before I buy or do just about ANYTHING, yet I rarely write reviews (trust me, the hypocrisy is not lost on me). Before getting a recent tattoo at Mad Ethel's I did a lot of research and asked friends for recommendations. All signs pointed to Mad Ethel's and I am glad they did. If you are looking for a true piece of art in a professional and clean establishment (I don't think many doctor's offices are as clean), then look no further than Mad Ethel's. What really set my experience apart is Mad Ethel's practice of bringing in guest artists. My tattoo was done by a guest artist, Markus, and it is an amazing piece of artwork. From the moment you walk in to the bro hug Mike (I think that is his name) gives you on the way out, everything about the Mad Ethel's experience is 5+ stars. All the tattoo artists at Mad Ethel's are extremely talented and I can't wait to get more work done by this shop.
If you are looking for a portrait or any other Tattoo Mad Ethels is definitely one I recommend. I just knew when walked in this was the shop I was going to have my ink done. Steve Worthington did a absolute amazing job on my daughters portrait. Really enjoyed my experience and time in the chair with Steve. I am definitely going toget back on his calendar for more work. The wait is worth it!!!!
Lily is absolutely amazing. She is everything I was looking for in a piercing artist. She is incredibly knowledgeable, clean, and professional while helping you feel comfortable with body modification. I went to Lily to have my nipples pierced first. I watched her sanitize the equipment before hand which really helped to put me at ease. She took her time to answer all my questions (and I had a lot). My second visit with her was for VCH, which I was probably even more nervous about than the nipples. Everything went very well, probably better than what I had built up in my mind. And I absolutely love my piercings. I am still going through the healing process but I don’t anticipate any problems with proper home care. If you are considering body piercings, Lily is where to go!
I went in to get a very small tattoo and was able to get it done the same day, the receptionist was incredibly nice and even took time to help me pick out the right font for my tattoo. The tattoo artist also came and helped me when I was having trouble figuring out exactly what I wanted, they were so patient with me which I thought was so nice because if I was irritating them, you definitely couldn't tell, haha! My tattoo was done very beautifully as well even though it was something small. You can tell they really take their time to make things perfect for each of their customers. I would definitely recommend this tattoo shop to anyone! Thank you Mad Ethel's!
Super clean and professional!
I've had two major pieces from here and today my first nose piercing. This shop is highest in it's class. The staff is always professional and best artists in the business
Perfect place to get my daughter's ears pierced. She was nervous but was made comfy and it was a great experience.
My experience could not have been any better! Very professional staff and my first tattoo is everything I hoped it would be! Thank you Ember and Mike!
Unfortunately, I was not happy with my visit. Made an appointment but still had to wait more than 30 minutes. I asked for a rose gold ring, and would have been fine with rose tone, but I was given yellow gold instead. I felt that the piercing was rushed through and have been told by some that it's crooked and others that I should wait until it settles. Was told after the fact that their rose gold is basically yellow gold which to that I say-- they are apples and oranges. I have to wait three months to replace it but also have to look at something I'm disappointed in until then. On the upside, I did get a hug from the receptionist to welcome me to the family.
Had an appointment with Lily here today for a septum piercing. She was amazing. Took time to explain everything. She was patient and through and i highly recommend getting a piercing here. I am so glad i found Mad Ethel's and Lily I will be back for my clicker!!!
Sisters are loving their new piercings
I was recently in Raleigh for a friends wedding. My wife had been tattooed by Steve several times and she suggested I go see him for the one I wanted. The tattoo I wanted is very technical with straight lines going around my arm including my elbow. I needed to have a very patient person with a strong attention to detail and Steve nailed it completely! I'm very happy with the results and will be happy to make the 8 hour drive from New York City to Raleigh to see Steve again for another tattoo!
I usually use the same piercer but this particular weekend I really wanted to get my daith done and my usual girl was not in. So I called around to several shops in Raleigh. I did not want to fight traffic in downtown Raleigh but out of all the piercers I talked to Lily seemed the most knowledgeable. And it was by far worth it. She did an amazing job and was super friendly! It's been a week and the piercing has healed really well!
I always feel taken good care of when I'm there!
Lily is an amazing piercer, she's done two of mine so far and I'm impressed by her portfolio, friendliness, and her jewelry selection. I'm definitely coming back to her for any others.
I just got a piercing from Lilith and I was super impressed with the whole shop. Clean, friendly, and Lilith was very professional. The piercing went very smoothly and I will definitely be back!
I had a cover up design in mind, which Colby made a reality for me and he did a wonderful job - even working on my tattoo upside down from his perspective, which blew my mind. Prior to Colby, I had come in and discussed design ideas for my cover up with Chris - who was extremely helpful. The entire crew at Mad Ethel's are very talented, professional and polite. The shop itself is neat and clean. The resident artists are booked out months in advance and its easy to see why - if you want a tattoo, this is where you want to have it done.
AAWWW MAN!! From the moment I walked in and met Ember to getting my piece done by Steve, the experience has been great and I am VERY much looking forward to my next visit to Mad Ethels!! The vibe was great with the other artist, Steve's work was NICE..He was such a cool dude and makes you feel comfortable while he works his magic.. Thanks guys and I will see you soon...
I was planning on getting a philtrum piercing, aka "Medusa" and messaged the piercer, @piercedbylilith, on Instagram for some basic questions. She was super sweet and responsive. I then went to see Lily for the piercing and she made the environment feel so much more relaxed than most piercing shops I've been to. She was so patient and nice and the piercing itself was so well done and quick. The other people I met in passing there were also super friendly and I could tell they all enjoyed their work. Great quality shop and people. :)
Great place! I got my ears pierced there and they’re very sanitary and the staff/artists are really helpful and kind. Lily did mine and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out. They are very professional and very clean.
Had piercing there, clean and percised.
Great place for tattoos, friendly staff
The shop is clean, comfortable and not the stereotypical dungeon of a tattoo shop. Candice took a very high-level topic and helped me narrow it into a concrete idea. Now I have an extremely well-done tattoo that I love more each time I look at it. I'm super excited for my next session.
Walked in yesterday by 1pm, extremely warm welcoming from Michael, told him what I wanted done, left by 2:30pm, texted to come back by 3:30 and, by 8, I was out with the most amazing tattoo by Cliff. Thanks to all the staff, the hug, the pain that resulted in an impressive art work.
I just got my first tattoo a few days ago with a guest tattoo artist Anton. He did an great job on my tattoo. The detailing and cratmanship is amazing. I have gotten so many compliments on it and it's only day 4! I did have a slight meltdown/freakout after getting my first tattoo but katlin talked me through it and made me feel a lot better in the end. I am so happy with my tattoo and the service, I recommended the shop to my co workers. Too bad Anton isn't there permanently because I would definitely want him to do my next tat.
I wanted to get a tattoo to remember my trip to visit my best friend in Raleigh. I live in Connecticut and wasn't familar with the area and decided to go in for a walk in with a few friends. I was taken in right away. Everyone at the shop was really nice, the artist eho tattooed me was from Denmark his name was Sore. He was awesome! Im very happy with my new addition. The process was quick, and he had a gentle hand.I left with a goodie bag full of instructions on care as well aling with a few other memorabilia. Great experience. I just received a" Thank You" card in the nail today from the shop..which was so cool of them. Iknow where Im going next time im in town!I recommend this shop!
Great customer service! Veru nice to my 3 year old son! Quick and lots of smiles.! Didnt want to leave. Loved the vibe!
Best experience I've ever had at any shop any where. Everyone there is very professional, and respectful. Candice is an amazing artist and I can't wait to see her for my next tattoo. She took the time to draw it exactly how I wanted it and where I wanted it done. She also took the time to scale it to the other calf so that they were proportional. EXCELLENT!!!!
Had a great experience at Mad Ethel’s! The piercer (Lily) was very patient and made me feel comfortable, she took her time talking to me about the steps that we would go through. I didn’t feel rushed at all. Very professional and sanitary. Would recommend 10/10! :)
Chris did an amazing job on my shoulder piece. It's very intricate with detailed thin lines and he took his time and did a great piece of art. Best tattoo guy around for sure, I highly recommend him. The waitlist is worth it.
Truly the best decision I could have made. I went to 4 different shops initially. Met with different artists, but it was a real easy choice after walking into Mad Ethel's. Candice was my artist, and after sitting with her 4 sessions I can say she is incredibly talented. For my first tattoo Candice had half my back to work with. Roughly 16 hours later, I wouldn't have it any other way. The shop is full of friendly and talented artists. It's a lovely place. Just plan it out in advance and save a day off as their schedules book up very quickly. And although they may say "6 months" when you first make your appointment, chances are that you'll get in here and there through cancellations. Without a doubt, one of the best experiences of my life.
I had an excellent experience at Mad Ethals. Ember was wonderful to work with. She made great suggestions to give my piece more depth. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking for quality work with a reasonable price.
Very professional, informative artists. Studio was ckean and comfortable. Explained everything you will experience during tattoo and gave great after care instructions.
Great atmosphere. Everyone is very friendly!
I got my sternum piece done here by a traveling artist almost a year ago. When I Initially went in to speak with someone, I didn't feel welcome nor was I greeted. I thought that was strange especially in a place of business and customer service. I brushed it off and made an appointment anyway. When I came in for the actual appointment, it was the same experience; I walked in and no one acknowledged me! By now, I had already put my deposit down so I didn't want to walk away from my money. I asked the artist to do the sternum piece that I had printed out and he grunted when he looked at it and then proceeded to GOOGLE other pieces that he thought would look better/would be easier. I didn't say anything. He was very cold and not welcoming nor did he seem excited or happy to have me as a client. He placed the stencil on me, and when I mentioned that it was uneven, he said "it's not the stencil, honey, your body is uneven". I STILL bit my tongue. I'd like to remind you that this was almost a YEAR ago, yet I still remember this experience. I laid on the table and let him begin tattooing me. He didn't make conversation, but he put in his earbuds and did his work. He took a few breaks, which I was thankful for, because it was my sternum and it was painful, but other than that, he didn't say anything until it was time to pay. THEN he was a little more talkative as I was getting out my credit card. I came here after reading extensive reviews about how nice and clean it was blah blah blah. Maybe it was just me or maybe it was just a bad day for the entire office, but I didn't have a good experience. My tattoo came out nice, and I think it was worth the price, but now I'm looking for a new shop to go to for my next thigh tattoo.
Never in my life have I been to a more welcoming tattoo shop. Steve is amazingly talented and I couldn't be more pleased with the art he's given me. Thanks Mad Ethel's and staff for the awesome experience!
Some of the best people you will ever meet.
Super disappointed in the organization. I called at 12:30p on a Saturday to inquire and book an appointment for a piercing. I was told that I wouldn’t need an appointment after giving details on when I wanted to arrive which would be between 2:15-2:30. I arrived at 2:30 to a busy shop (which is to be expected on a Saturday), spoke with a gentleman at the front who then took my name and phone number and said that he would call me in 20-30 mins to return for my piercing and that this would hold my spot in line just as an appointment would. One hour later I still didn’t receive a phone call and decided to return back to the shop to discover that the lobby was now empty. I began my paper work and waited my turn. About 45mins of waiting and received no update or acknowledgement and ended up having to leave. I really wish the communication was better, I was looking forward to getting pierced there
Perfect from start to finish. Super clean and comfortable shop. Personable, friendly, knowledgeable staff. Prices are more than fair and for the quality of work you get they're actually a bargain. Absolutely top notch, couldn't be happier with my tattoo or my overall experience.
Got my tragus pierced by an amazing young woman (Lilly?). She was awesome and very kind.
Ember was amazing and kind and did a fantastic job on my tattoo! They also sent a cute post card a week later! They really make you feel like they care and I will be going back For any future tattoos!
Good luck getting anyone to pay attention to you or getting work done in your lifetime! I contacted Mad Ethel's because I saw so many great ratings on their work. While their work may be impressive once you finally have it done, the customer experience is terrible. After what seemed like a good start via e-mail, their "scheduler" started to cop a lot of attitude because I chose to pick up the phone and eliminate the back-and-forth and try to work out a time to come in sooner. These were tattoos for 3 people, so 3 people who would have had a great customer experience! Mad Ethel's Management - do yourself a favor and get someone who can pay attention to details, speak to the public to work with them, and that cares to provide a great customer experience! It's really not that hard to do! We were extremely flexible, but gave up after the attitude came out! There are a lot of good shops in Raleigh now, so plenty of choices in finding a shop that will work with you when considering something permanent on your body.
Highly recommended!! Paul Black is amazingly talented! And everyone at the front was super nice and the everything went smoothly. Thanks for the experience!!
Love Lily (the piercing artist)! Very beautiful spirit, gives sound advice on jewelry maintenance and aftercare, and very professional!
I always loved the look of nose piercing and my main concern was finding a very experienced piercer in a professional and sanitary establishment. After a week of using search engines and reading reviews I decided to put my trust in the beautiful young lady named Lilly at Mad Ethel's Tattoo and Piercing. She was very friendly and informative when I called and I was able to come as a walk-in the same night. When my daughter and I arrived, the staff was friendly and Lilly explained every detail from handling the cost to the actual nose piercing procedure and aftercare. She took the time to fully sanitize the piercing tools to picking out the nose jewelry. Lilly made us feel so welcomed and chatted with us like we were family as she proceeded with the piercing. Lilly counted 1, 2 and by the time she said 3 the hollow needle had already pierced through my nose. Did not hurt bad at all. Only like someone pinching your nose with their fingernail. I was given a aftercare bag with instructions and was able to purchase the H2O Ocean saline piercing aftercare solution. I will be coming back to have Lilly pierce the other side of my nose this week and have the septum piercing when my daughter gets a break from college to have Lilly also pierce her nose. I highly recommend Mad Ethel's for all piercings and tattoos.
Their guest artist, Djo, did an excellent job on my cover up. I was amazed. He is very awesome! I will be back for my next tattoo. Thank you!
Un enthusiastic and not very helpful staff
From the moment Mike gives you a hug to getting a fantastic tattoo to a hug goodbye, this place is awesome. Chris Peck did a fantastic job on my first ink and I cant wait to go back for #2.
Visited for piercing. Nice atmosphere, super friendly. Super clean. Highly recommend.
Awesome location for tattooing needs. Staff is outstanding.
I got my cartilage pierced yesterday and i was a little scared but Lilly i believe her name is (the piercer) walker me through it and told me it was nothing to be scared of!! Great service and very professional i definitely recommend this place
Lily did a great job and was very friendly quick and answered all of my questions only regret is not getting pierced sooner
Had a great experience here with Candice a couple of years ago going back to get some work from here soon.
Lilith did an amazing job with my peircing! And the shop has a great vibe!
Great artistes. Easy appointment and helpful staff. Highly recommended
Awesome piercer would highly recommend!
I randomly decided on a day off I was going to get a few things pierced and after some research I thankfully landed on Mad Ethel's. I called that day to get some information about the pricing and the procedure. Lilly who does the piercing was able to answer all of my questions and wasn't pushy or rushing me through the conversation. I felt like my time mattered and it was important to her that I had all the information. I came in the next day and I got a few body piercings and she was very friendly informative and she cleaned everything properly. She went at a pace that made me feel comfortable and let me know everything I need to know for cleaning and future maintenance as well as options for gauging. All in all it was an incredibly amazing experience and I'm glad I picked mad Ethel's.
Got a Daith piercing that INSTANTLY took my headache away!! Staff is awesome! Love this place!!
This is the best tattoo shop in Raleigh. The work is great. They are super friendly. Love this place!!
Lily, the piercer, took so much time to speak with me (over the phone) about my piercings and what I wanted. She definitely knows what she’s doing and her work shows it. Friendly staff, beautiful facility, and affordable services.
Called ahead for my daughter. They were very accommodating and professional. Price is reasonable, place is clean and everyone seems knowledgeable and willing to help. Would definitely return.
Go here and ask for Christ Peak!!!!!!!! This is coming from a Special Forces vet with tats all over, I have a good idea what good shop is and a good artist is. I have two sleeves full sleeves. So I have like 2 good tats out of 10 lol. I'm 28 and I have wanted an octopus that was attacking a ship for a long time. Chris did it right This shop is awesome. I had some issues with other "artist" and shops who wasted my time and I was losing hope on NC and Raleigh. I went there and told him what I wanted. we scheduled a date and I went in. I'm not joking when I walked in he had a octopus in a jar (it was dead ) but a real octopus!!!. He used it in his drawing to make it realistic which I asked for..No big giant eyes and wiener shaped head... I want a real looking octopus. I was shocked by how dedicated this guy is. I have my best tattoo yet and I wish I could up load a picture. If you think this post is fake google my name and then follow me on Instagram so you can see I'm real Or go in the shop and you will see the Octopus in the jar. Definitely go here and to get ink
I love this shop! It’s a very clean and comfortable environment. My artist was Errol who is awesome and will always make you feel comfortable! He designed my sleeve and also put a beautiful sparrow on my back which is a cover-up. His lines are really clean and I know when I have any work done by him it’s going to turn out incredible! Definitely check this shop out if you’re looking for any ink.
Robbie did amazing work. His design was even better than what I had imagined. Staff were all professional.
Best tattoo shop in Raleigh. They do great work. There is a reason they stay booked up.
Mad Ethel's is amazing. I started my 7th tattoo there recently, and everyone was great. From scheduling to the atmosphere to the artwork, I was very pleased. My tattoo artist is Candice and she is amazing. Her lines and attention to detail are incredible. The other artists were friendly and joked with me as the work was being done, and I felt very welcome and comfortable, which is not the case at all parlors. I would recommend Mad Ethel's, and Candice specifically, to anyone. I am very excited to get back in the shop and have more work done on this piece.
Absolutely amazing! I couldn't ask for a better experience. Everyone was so kind. Got my nose pierced. It was a breeze. She thoroughly explained after care instructions. Experience was so good, I'm thinking what to get pierced next! Hands down the best!
I got my third lobe piercing done today by Lilly (third overall, first from Lilly) and it was such a pleasant experience! I've been to another well-rated shop downtown where it felt very impersonal and almost rushed. Lilly was not only super friendly but really took her time with the placement and the piercing itself, and talked to me through the whole process. She also had more jewelry to choose from than I've ever seen elsewhere, and gave me a water bottle afterwards since it was warm and I was walking home. I would definitely recommend her, and won't be going anywhere else for any future piercings I decide to get!
This is one of the nicest shops ive been in. I came in from out of town, as a walk in. Talked to Mike about my father passing, he made me feel right at home, and he got me in that night to get some work done. Angel wings and my fathers birthday in the middle. Cliff Kealoha Jr, sat me down and started his work....I left with the best looking tattoo Ive ever had. I will be coming back to Cliff and Mad Ethel's Tattoo, for the rest of my work. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Richmond, VA......but well worth it for such wonderful artwork, and a great atmosphere, friendly staff, great music...and had a blast the time that i spent there...I will be back guys!!!
Fantastic! I got my first tattoo done there and I wouldn't have done it any different. The staff was very professional and it was very clean. The quality of work is fantastic. I've received so many compliments from people saying that's the best work they've ever seen. I will be going there for any future tattoos. They are also very personable and welcoming which was really nice. Thank you especially to Paul who did my amazing work.
Lilly is incredible. She's so sweet and professional. I highly recommend her for any piercing (I had my daith done).
Great experience, Steve was amazing! He did great work and made me feel very comfortable! Definitely recommend!
AMAZING experience. We had Chris Peck and he was awesome! I am 41 years old and it was my first tattoo. He was super professional and extremely clean, almost to the OCD level which is good! The shop has a welcoming atmosphere and all that worked there made us feel right at home. If I could rate it more stars, I would!!
I love love love this place, they make you feel super appreciated & like you matter. Also they send cute little cards for Christmas & even after your first experience they send a little thank you card which I thought was super adorable. I forgot the piercers name but she’s super cute, has a great personality & helped me more than I expected. Will deff be coming here for any piercings (because she’s the best in town) or any tattoos. Oh & the owner is the sweetest coolest man !
I went to Mad Ethel's Tattoo on my birthday for my very first tattoo. It came out perfect and everyone there was super nice which made me feel comfortable. Ember was my tattoo artist and Katlyn answered all my questions about aftercare. I will definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a tattoo parlor.
Very good experience. They were very attentive and patient. I was able to get a date and timeslot I wanted. They answered all of my questions and gave me the tattoo I wanted. Robbie did a great job on my tattoo. Also got my daughter's ears pierced. Overall, I would recommend this location.
Despite waiting 10 months for an appt, it was very well worth it! Chris did a beautiful dancer tree on my left side/ribs that incorporated my last names in the roots and my son's name in a branch. He even left space for my soon-to-be new last name and names of future children! I have gotten nothing but compliments on the work and had a very positive experience during my appt - tattoo time was 2 hours and 57 min after he drew it up for about 30-45 min. I have recommended the studio ever since and will be returning after my wedding to get my new last make added to the roots. Thanks again, Chris!
I've gone to Lilith for piercings and aftercare appointments. She's extremely nice and knowledgeable about her field and the wait time for walk-ins normally isn't long either.
Very clean and nice! Lilly gave me a piercing and she was very pleasant and informative about the jewelry, piercing process, and aftercare. Good music, artistic atmosphere, and reasonable prices. Very professional and sanitary. Lilly took her time and the process didnt feel rushed. Highly recommend
Amazing staff. Clean. Will definitely be going back!
This is my second time at Mad Ethel's but my first experience with Paul Black and I can't say enough good things about both the business and the artist. Their new shop is really nice, clean, open and comfortable. The staff was very friendly upon check in as well. Paul is a very talented artist and was able to combine my varied ideas into one beautiful and meaningful piece of art. I will definitely be back for any future ink I decide to get.
Got my first tattoo today! It turned out awesome thanks Paul! You did an excellent job!
I've been to many tattoo shops and this one is by far the best I've ever been to bar none. The shop is beautiful, spotless, and the customer service is amazing. I got a botched armband a while ago that I feared wouldn't be coverable but NOPE. Steve is a freaking genius with the way he covered it to fit a new Japanese piece we're working on. He far surpassed the ideas/expectations I had in mind for what could be done with my botched tattoo. Can't wait till it's finished, Mad Ethel's is the best and worth every penny. Anyone in the area please check them out you won't regret it I promise, 5stars all around. P.S they even sent me a little thank you post card in the mail, it's so cute :)
I had a daith piercing done here a couple months ago, and I have to say it was a wonderful experience. She was professional and was able to make me very comfortable when I was fairly nervous about getting a piercing. She gave me all the information I needed on how to care for my piercing, and she even asked if I wanted the piercing for migraines or looks and pierced it accordingly (she put it deeper into the fold of my ear because it's for migraines). My only complaint is I don't know what size jewelry to put in it, and I couldn't find anything on their sight either.
Hands down the best shop in the area! Very warm, inviting, and professional. I've had work done by Steve, Ember, and Dimos and each piece is fantastic. I cannot wait for my next tattoo!
I had a great experience with Steve he did my eye browns they came out really great and i really like how they turned out he was very nine and the place is awesome
I went to Mad Ethel's for my first significant tattoo. I was commemorating a life-changing incident and I needed it to be perfect. These folks took the time to really understand what I wanted, they included me in the creation process, they made sure I was perfectly happy with their plan, and they made sure I was as physically and emotionally comfortable as possible before they ever started the procedure. My artist was visiting from overseas and he was truly a master. He had other clients after me but he never rushed his work and he didn't overlook a single detail. My tattoo took about two hours to complete, and I was taken great care of the whole time. Needless to say, the piece came our exactly how I pictured, and I absolutely love it. Mad Ethel's isn't the cheapest tattoo parlor in tow, and there's a damn good reason for it.
Got a back piece done by their guest artist Djo. He was very professional and gentle, ensuring my comfort throughout the entire process. Prices are a bit high, but you're paying for the quality of their skills. Definitely make an appointment and get your deposit down to hold your spot, and email any ideas you have prior to arriving to save a little design time.
Amazing artists here. Long lead time to schedule but the work is worth the wait
Went for first session on a tattoo last week. Candice drew up a design that far exceeded anything that I could have hoped for! She is an amazing artist!!!! The atmosphere is very laid back and it makes the whole process an enjoyable one. I would recommend her in particular and the shop in general to anyone!!!!
Lilly was so nice and very professional!! Getting a piercing there was easy, I would definitely go back again :)
An amazing shop! The entire experience from scheduling to getting the tattoo to paying for the finished product was outstanding! Mike provided amazing service. Paul is a a great person and a hell of an artist! He wants your feedback on the design. He's so easy to talk to he makes it easy to ignore the pain. And his chair is next to Steve's and so there's ample opportunity for awesome conversation! Great great great experience!
Clean, great service. Beautiful tattoos.
Great customer service, and the piercer is super sweet and surprisingly gentle.
Lilly pierced my daughters ears for her 7th birthday. All of the staff was fantastic and did their best to put us all at ease. Lilly explained everything she was going to do before starting to make sure my daughter was comfortable and calm. Lilly has a fantastic collection of jewelry perfect for younger girls. She is very thorough in her explanation of after care and in going on 5 months we have had no issues. My daughter was thrilled to receive a card from Lilly a few days later thanking us for coming to see her and reminding her to take care of her new piercings. I cannot say enough good things about our experience, Lilly and the staff at Mad Ethel's. I would without hesitation highly recommend them.
Such a great environment. Shop what clean and welcoming. All staff members are friendly and have great personalities. Chris Peck is one of a kind and is outstanding at what he does. My tattoo will take a couple of more sessions and can't wait to go back. Had a great time during my first session. The tattoo will be one of a kind and fully custom by Chris. Highly recommended Mad Ethel's for anyone looking for some ink in the Raleigh, NC area. Top notch!!!
100% recommend this shop. Anton was my artist, though the work of all the artists is amazing. Anton was kind and creative. He had a gentle touch and I am in love with my tattoo! The shop was cool, clean, and the staff was friendly.
I work alot and have been trying to find time to actually get into the shop to get some jewelry. Lilly was so personable and helpful on the phone, before I even got to the shop that I was blown away. I had to cancel, unfortunately and then stopped in one night and the staff at the counter was so amazing, we ended up just chatting for half an hour past closing. This says alot because though I have 8 tattoos and a few piercings you would never know to look at me and walking into shops can be intimidating for someone who looks like Betty Crocker. I've been pierced and tattooed in NC, Hawaii, TN, KY, Ohio and there really is something to the vibe of this place. I wouldn't recommend anywhere else.
Great staff who are happy to answer any questions you have about tattooing and the profession itself as well as being easy to get in contact with and prompt with replies! Couldn't ask for more.
Drove a ways to go here to arrive at 11:55 they open at noon or at least they were supposed to. I waited an hour and still nothing. Really disappointed that they come with such great reviews yet are unable to keep their own hours . Edit July 18 2019. The owner reached out and explained some emergency happened and that's why they were closed. So changing that here since we've all had bad days.
A week ago I visited Mad Ethel's for my first tattoo and it was truly a great experience. The person responsible for such an experience was Anton. He was very professional, personable and his attention to detail was outstanding. He made my friend and I feel right at home. He's very artistic and helped assist me come up with a tattoo to my liking. I'll definitely be visiting him again should I get another one down the road. Thanks Anton!!!
Owner is a nice person and I think she is a pro. But she need to do something about her stuff. Artists from my point of view are not that good plus their prices are crazy.
I love this shop. My new piercer resides here; she's fun and easy to talk to. I've had a tattoo touched up here as well as a large thigh piece done. There are several tattoo artists with different specialities, so you can get pretty much anything done here. The artists are so talented and friendly, I don't mind that they have a pretty long wait list. They're careful about cleaning equipment. Even though I'm not here more than once or twice a year, the staff remembers me. I really don't know what else I could ask for.
Lilly did an amazing job on mine and my mom's tragus piercings
I had a great experience, all the way around. Everyone who works here is friendly and knowledgeable and welcoming. This shop is mostly appointment only but even as a walk-in, I was treated wonderfully, given great advice, and listened to. I made an appointment with Anton, who turned the old tattoo on my foot into part of a bigger masterpiece. I felt comfortable, I got exactly what I wanted and it looks better than I could have dreamed. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone who is interested in getting a tattoo- whether you have an exact idea or just a vague one, they will be able to give you something you will really love.
This place is beyond awesome! Having a honeybee tattoo was always something I wanted for so many reasons so I put a lot of consideration and research into who would do it and where I would have it done at! I looked into this place for many months and knew I wanted Chris Peck to do it! I finally went in to book an appointment and was super stoked but learned that he was totally booked out until November when I really wanted it for my wedding by October but Caitlyn is hella awesome and fit me in to a sooner appointment to have it done! Chris did an AMAZNG JOB and he made me feel super comfortable and he super-exceded my expectations. I knew it would look great because I knew he was great- but it went far beyond that picture that I had had in the back of my head for so many years! This place is AMAZING. <3
Lilly is super professional and sweet, i highly recommend her for piercings, she explained everything i needed to know and was super nice to me through the process. (I got a nose piercing)
Lily was great!
AMAZING. I had a half sleeve farm scene done by Candice and couldn't be happier. She was easy to work with and was receptive to my ideas while guiding the process and letting me know what works and what doesn't. I gave her a punch of photos and my vision and in 9 or 10 sessions it was a magnificent reality. Great mix of realism and stylized design, not too portrait-y not to cartoon-y. Perfect and worth the wait time.
This place is incredible! I was a walk-in and they were very accommodating. I got a helix piercing done by Lily who was so professional and kind. She made me feel so comfortable that I wasn’t nervous at all and the process was quick and simple. I definitely recommend Lily and the whole team!
I was just there yesterday to get my first tattoo. Mike and Paul made me feel very comfortable through my experience. My tattoo looks BEAUTIFUL. I highly recommend Mad Ethel's (and especially Paul Black)!
Mad Ethel's was great to me! I wanted to commemorate my anniversary of finishing chemo with some special ink on the anniversary day. Though somewhat 'late to the party', Mike and Cliff (visiting artist) accommodated my special request in a touching, personal way ♥ This is my 8th tattoo and my 4th tattoo shop - I likely won't go anywhere else after this. The shop was nice, laid back and all things made for a really good experience! My husband got his first tattoo here last fall and had a great experience as well. Thanks guys - awesome shop!
From start to finish my experience with Mad Ethel's was outstanding. Ember answered the phone when I called and she was pleasant and knowledgeable. To be honest, I had spoken with several shops and was surprised at the rudeness I encountered at some of them. Ember could not have been better. Candice did my tattoo and I couldn't be happier. It looks beautiful and when I walk around I notice people checking it out which is awesome. The shop is clean and the atmosphere is great. This was my first tattoo in 20 years and I was a little apprehensive going in but everyone at Mad Ethel's was great and I can't wait to go back.
I absolutely love this shop! Steve has done several of my tattoos and he's been great at taking my ideas and making them come to life. It's a very welcoming environment. Whether you're the seasoned tattoo client or just beginning your tattoo journey, they're always willing to listen to your ideas and find the best fit. I recommend this shop to people looking for top notch tattoo work. Steve's pinup/portrait work is phenomenal.
I was in Raleigh for a day with a friend and decided to get a tattoo so we went into Mad Ethel's. This was my first tattoo experience and I loved it!! The receptionist and my artist was so sweet and welcoming to my random walk-in request and made my experience great. They were super helpful in designing the tattoo and with aftercare information, and the tattoo itself turned out amazinggg. I will definitely travel 2 hours here anytime I want another tattoo!!!
I got a tattoo on my foot from Anton about 5 days ago. It was my first and I was terrified. Victoria and Anton were wonderful!! Anton kept me distracted with great conversation while he worked. Victoria convinced me to go for it in the 1st place. The best part was, it barely hurt. I am all ready considering another and will never go to anyone else. The shop is clean and trendy. All the staff we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable. I would offer constructive criticism if I had any, but I couldn't have imagined a better experience.
Lilly just recently did my Daith piercing. She did a amazing job and was very informative of my care. I will definitely be returning for my next piercing!
I got my first tattoo with apprentice artist, Ember. She is definitely NOT an apprentice! She is amazing and her work is awesome!! She made me feel so comfortable and relaxed so she could do her artistry/ The environment at Mad Ethel's is very homey as well, very clean and professional. All in all, a great experience. Definitely will be going back!!!
Absolutely the BEST tattoo shop in the Triangle. Chris Peck is an amazing artist!
