LOVE my new piece that Lalo just finished! I wanted a surrealism music/nature ink and Lalo was the perfect choice as I love his style. Great experience and excellent communication by Lalo and Rafa for the emails and setting up my appointments. It's a small shop, but the environment and atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Art all over the place inside and the front of the building grabs a lot of people's attention. Thank you Lalo, Raffa and everyone else at H.O.M for a great experience and a tattoo that I've been wanting to get for a long time!

I’ve been to a couple tattoo shops in NYC (East River Tattoo, King’s Ave) and each time I had to give around a $100-$200 deposit for a large piece completed over a couple of days. I then went to House of Monkey to get a tattoo done. At the consultation we had a long conversation regarding the elements and type of tattoo that I wanted. The deposit was $800 which surprised me, but I know each shop works differently, so I accepted it. When I arrived on the day of the appointment, I did not like the tattoo that had been designed for me. Certain elements I wanted hadn’t been included, others had been changed, and the overall feeling of the tattoo was something that had been quickly thrown together. I was not able to have it tattooed, the tattooer understood and informed me I would get a $400 refund. When I chased for that refund they claimed they hadn’t realized certain conditions and that would not in fact be refunding anything. Yeah, it smarts, but at the end of the day, what comes around goes around. Buyers beware. Just be aware of policies before you part with your cash as not everyone functions with integrity.

Very cool tattoo shop, I highly recommend checking out their artists because this is a welcoming place with a warm vibe and no traces of pretentiousness. It was easy to make an appointment, the shop was full on a Saturday, which is good to see and be part of, and meeting and getting inked by Ralph was a real treat. Ralph's "style" is modern with a side of swag. He pays attention to detail, provides good feedback about placement, has a steady and soft hand, and creates great tattoos. Ralph was fun to talk to and really came across as interested in being there and giving the people he meets A+ tattoos. Bottom line: I've been tattooed a lot and I've been to a lot of tattoo shops, from boutique to street shops and this was in my top 5 places I've been to. Cheers to House of Monkey and kudos to Ralph, he works hard and it shows.

After a not-so-great experience with a visiting tattoo artist, Ozzy (incomplete, sloppy work), I first had a negative rating for this tattoo studio. The studio owner, Lalo, quickly contacted me, apologized, and offered the option to either fix my current tattoo, or work on another on, free of charge. I opted for the first offering, and worked with Melody to come up with some options to fix what was done. I've since had one tattoo session with Melody. I'm happy with the results so far, and I'm looking forward to the next session that I'll need to complete everything. There was a wrong, and they quickly righted it, and for that I've changed my rating. Thanks Lalo and Melody!

This was my first tattoo experience and I could not have asked for more!! Everyone I've met at House of Monkey Tattoo is friendly, professional, and most importantly- they have created an environment with such a pleasant vibe that has made all my sessions with Lalo @lalotattoos extremely enjoyable. Working with Lalo on a large piece was the BEST choice I may have ever made! I sent images and an explanation of what I was looking for and the design he came up with was unimaginable. So good. The creativity and talent you will get from Lalo is second to none, through the roof. Not to say all the other work I have seen while in the shop from Melody, Ozzy, and Camillo isn't fantastic, I can only speak from my experience. This is the place you go to put your trust in the artist and let them use their amazing talents to give you an experience you will not get anywhere else. I do not plan on getting another tattoo but if I do there is no question where I will go, House of Monkey.
