A little pricey, but about what I expected. Nowhere is cheap in NYC. I paid $120 for a touch up. Their minum charge is $100. Tattoo came out well for the most part. Staff is friendly and the place has a good, calm atmosphere.

Mixed emotions about this place. Went in to get my first tattoo on the inside of my foot, it was pretty small. I handed my design in when i made my appointment and came back the next day to get it done. The lady behind the desk said the artist would have the design for 24 hours to kind of get it, and understand what I want. Turns out he only got it when I walked through the shop door 20 minutes before getting it done. I think because of the size and the fact that it wasn't the artists own design (who by the way turned out not to even be listed on their website) he didn't really care that much about it. So he didn't put much effort it. The lines aren't even and are blurry, but some are sharp so it looks weird. And the shading is way too heavy. I need to get it touched up, but will not do that at red rocket. I'm getting a much bigger tat on my back, and will certainly not be coming back here to get it. You're better off going to a smaller shop where you can actually talk to the artists (there's a lot under one roof here) where they may care a bit more. I still like my tattoo and don't regret it at all. I do hope that after a touch up it'll be a bit nicer though.

I may have just found my tattoo home. Red Rocket's staff was so amazing to work with. I had originally booked my appointment for February but had kept pushing it back. They were really accommodating and happily worked with me to settle on a day. Greg was my tattoo artist and he was really sweet. We tossed around ideas and finally settled on something I would love for the rest of my life. During the whole ordeal he kept asking if I was okay, as it was my very first time getting a tattoo, making sure i was comfortable. If I could give them ten stars I would. I HIGHLY recommend this place.

Terrible. Do NOT get your tattoo done by Tom. I had him do the most simple 4 symbol represent on my chest and he straight up scarred me. Dug into my skin unevenly and was not consistent. Lines were fine but the filling was garbage. Would not recommend Tom Leyh. Now I have to live with a scarred tattoo for the rest of my life. Thanks dude. Not. Edit: after two years, I can confidently say that this was the worst tattoo by far that I've ever gotten. Bumpy and scarred for life. I have 7 other tattoos so it is not a matter of how my care of the piece after the job was... They pawned me off on an amateur and it's horrible that they hired him.

My Favorite Get Your Groove

Red Rocket "Rocks" Mike.B is my go-to for all ink. However, all the artists are amazing!!!! I can't say enough good things about them as Humans or Robots (ha-no) seriously they are the leaders in Ink (In My Humble Opinion). And oh by the way did I mention I am sooooo picky and neurotic about cleanliness... They passed 100%.

When I went for my appointment with Erica Flannes, I made a request for an alteration to the original tattoo design that I had picked via e-mail. She was more than accommodating. I found everyone at Red Rocket to be friendly and helpful and would go again. Ask for Erica, you won't be disappointed!

I got referred form a few friends to see an artist at Red Rocket Tattoo. I emailed the artist to ask him a few questions about rates, ink used, time, etc. and followed up by calling the shop. A lady answered the phone, where I asked her if i could speak with the artist or if he would be available at all today to talk to me (given it is a two hour commute). She said he would not be able to talk to me, where upon I told her I emailed him. I asked her to mention the email to him and if he could just call me back to schedule a time to see me. She told me that if I emailed him "then he has your email", and "just come in dude". If it was that simple and I didn't have to commute from upstate New York I would have "just came in dude". I didn't think it was unreasonable for a tattoo artist to talk for five minutes to a potential client, ESPECIALLY if they are traveling to your shop. All in all this lady who answered the phone was beyond rude, and ended up hanging up on me when I started asking too many questions. I would love to get work done by this artist but am now second guessing even giving money to that shop.

Walk-ins are very welcome, as many tattoo artists are performing there! I got my tattoo from Myra, a young, beautiful and amiable woman who was originally born and grown-up in Germany. I really like and appreciated her tattoo art. During tattooing we carried on an awesome and great conversation/chat. Merchandising articles like T-Shirts, tank tops or hoodies are also available on site.

Heard there work is amazing, tried rescheduling because I was going to be late a few hours and didn’t want to make the artist wait and instead of helping me out they decided to take my $100 deposit rather than reschedule a $1400 tattoo. O.m.g. Got tattoo from korea, cali and ohio before i got here and holyf####... not only place is nice and clean but people are so friendly. On TOP OF THIS, unlike ANYOTHER TATTOO shop, they dont treat u like product or just a number for business. They will consult you very thoroughly and even suggest not to do this and that because in few months or 1 year from now, it wont look the way it is now (detailed very close lines, white ink, etc., eventho if they left me do whatever i want, they get more money).... also... my artist, Kris, she stayed even after shop closed with me just because she wanted to do more detailed job and she wanted to add more color to the eye (one of the piece i got today) just because she thinks it will look nicer. Idk i could go on but how clean they are with gloves, and everytime they touch SOMETHING, theh will be doctor clean freaks but its all for us u know? Anyway i wanna go here again, and i brought in 2 more people and they were very very very satisfied with their tattoo as well. Man. This is first review i have ever written i think cuz i was so blown away by this place..... make sense they are like allllll booked almost all 11 artists.. wow... there is reason why these places dont go bankrupt. From the second I walked in, Red Rocket gave me a great feeling. I asked the woman at the desk for a quick ballpark estimate, she told me $120 but my friends wanted piercings so we had to go somewhere else to get those. We went to another well rated tattoo place for their piercings but it didn't feel right for my tattoo. I went back to Red Rocket. They were a clean and friendly environment. They checked my ID and had me sign the papers necessary. Then I met my artist Danny. Originally I wanted my tattoo kind of small, but he gave me his professional advice by telling me how small tattoos don't age well. Another woman agreed with his advice showing me one of her small tattoos so I took it! I couldn't of asked for a better artist for my first tattoo! I got a tattoo on my hip and he made me feel very comfortable. He eased me into the pain of getting the tattoo, was very gentle and did an amazing job. The lines are straight and made it an enjoyable experience. During getting it, I was smiling and talking and forgetting all pain. After I paid, I received a little package of ointment and lotion with steps to help me take care of it. I can't stop looking at the finished product! I highly recommend this place.

I had my first tattoo a week ago, done by Matt at Red Rocket, and I am absolutely delighted! I booked an appointment and shared image ideas beforehand. On arrival I listened to Matt’s advice re design and we discussed how to best get what I wanted. The process was calm and really interesting (for a newbie), and the aftercare pack and instructions have meant i’ve not experienced any discomfort or problems at all. The studio is bright, clean and friendly and i’d highly recommend Red Rocket to anyone looking to get tattooed in NYC.

Today I went in for a sketch and more info about the tattoo process and rates due to it being my first tat. The gentleman behind the counter was super friendly and got Mat ( I believe that his name) to inform me on everything. I told him what I wanted and he drew a rough sketch of the idea right on my arm with a marker (super talented) . He was super cool and by the books and pictures of their work, they are a credible tattoo shop, theyre credible artists in that shop. They made me comfortable and they listen to what I wanted and thats why I'm going to them to do my tat. You get what you pay for. If you come here, YOU WILL BE IN GOOD HANDS. I'm scheduled Saturday and i will do an update with the picture of the tat that will prove how good these guys are.

I got a tattoo done last Monday with Ellen at their Manhattan studio and could honestly not have been more impressed. I was having a relatively small tattoo compared to some of the usual work, but was never made to feel inadequate. Ellen explained everything to me, talked me through the whole process and was one of the nicest people I have met. It was my first tattoo, so was extremely nervous, but Ellen made the whole experience brilliant. Would recommend to anyone, and am truly shocked to read some of the negative reviews on here.

This is an amazing shop! I went into the shop as a walk-in looking to get a medium sized piece done and was totally blown away by the amount of help I received. The girl at the counter was very nice and answered every possible question I had. I had done a little research before going to the shop and knew that I had wanted to work with a specific artist that day. He was very busy but sat with me, talked about my design and helped find the best placement for it. I had to wait a little while, because I was a walk-in, but everyone in the shop was easy to talk to and I was never forgotten. When it was time to get my tattoo, everything went smoothly. There was no pressure what so ever and my artist was easy to talk to. I am so thankful to have been taken care of in such an amazing way at such a short notice. I recommend them to anyone looking to get their first tattoo or someone who is wanting to continue adding on. This shop is very accommodating and I will be going back. I had the absolute BEST experience here with Matt, and highly, highly recommend Red Rocket to anyone looking to get a tattoo in NYC. I walked in to immediate banter from mike at the front, and told Matt that I wanted an abstract, squiggly tornado tattoo. He was jazzed from the beginning, looked at one photo for reference and made some sketches. Matt took what I wanted, added his own flair, and made a tattoo in so so so happy with. He made my friend and I incredibly comfortable the entire time we were there and we had some awesome chats about tattooing as a whole. I came to this shop with nine of my friends to surprise my best friend for her birthday because she really wanted a tattoo. Seven of us were already going to get a tattoo with $100 minimum. (Let me do the math for you all that's $700 starting) . Upon entering the vibe was very unwelcoming. No greetings were given. I explained to Mork that it was my friend's birthday and this was a surprise; therefore please give her a few minutes to decide. He responded with "obviously", very rudely. Then my best friend stated what she wanted and again, rudely, responded "oooookay, that gave me nothing. No information." Never again coming here or recommending to anyone. Please work on your hospitality and greetings with your customers!

I called, like the website recommended, because I was visiting New York and want a tattoo. A lady answered and I greeted her, and she said, "Ask your question quick." I was startled, but I did, and mid way through my question, she said, "No, we're not going to do that for you." And she hung up. Not only was this TOTALLY rude, it gives the place a bad name. She doesn't know who I am, but she will now. You don't treat ANY customer like that, for many reasons, I guess she'll find out the hard way.
