This shop was awesome. My artist was Eva Huber and she absolutely nailed my design based off a typed description of what I wanted accompanied by an extremely rough sketch that I sent her. The pricing was incredibly low and fair considering the quality of work that I received and the atmosphere was awesome. It was extremely clean and socially comfortable, and had an overall homey vibe (complete with a resident cat). As far as Eva goes, she was remarkably pleasant to interact with and I would 100% return again and again for more work from her. She put incredible detail into my tattoo and I am eternally grateful! If you are in Brooklyn, absolutely stop by. Thanks so much, 8 of swords!

This review is to make people aware of the designing methods used by some tattooers that are not exactly artists. I got an appointment 3 months in advance at Eight of Swords with ZoeBean. I met with her before to talk about my tattoo design and the process, so I trusted her experience and judgment. The day of the tattoo went well, it didn't hurt too bad and I felt comfortable with her. The experience became bad when I found out that she basically traced my tattoo from an image she found online. The tattoo looks pretty much the same, except for few differences that make it look like a copy poorly done. When I realized this I told her that this seemed like a copy to me, and she made up a concept of plagiarism as a response: "is a unique take from a classic" (interesting!!). In my opinion, if this was the case, I would expect her to show me the source of her "inspiration" instead of taking full credit for the "design". I'm so disappointed with this experience and the fact that I trusted her.

Everytime i look at my arm i regret ever walking into 8 of swords.... the tattoo "artist" will leave his shaky hands on your body long after he discovered the pleasures of showers, shaving and good neighborliness. to be avoided at all cost.

This is my shop....meaning Eight of Swords is my go to. Dave Wallin is the man. Even though I no longer live in Brooklyn I still fly back there to get more work done. Always more than satisfied with the work & experience. Conceptualizing & working through ideas for both of my sleeves has been an enjoyable process and I trust Dave's opinion and food for thought....he has great insight as to what will work in balancing content and spacing. Lookin forward to going back in a few weeks!

Absolutely loved 8 of swords. Jessie gave me an amazing custom Tattoo. I was a bit nervous as it was my first tattoo, but everyone there was very friendly and welcoming so it was a great experience. This shop has a super inclusive, cozy and cool atmosphere. I got a tattoo from Zoe on my birthday and she made sure I was comfortable throughout the entire three hour appointment. Nobody acts too cool for school and everyone is just really kind. The shop is clean, the tools and everything are clearly sanitary and the artists are all really wonderful and talented. I can't recommend this shop enough!

I'm visiting NYC for the month of June and knew I wanted to get a tattoo before I went home. I walked in there with a rough drawing of what I wanted, as a walk-in, and only had to wait about 30 minutes. Sarah redrew what I wanted and the whole tattoo only took about 30 minutes itself. She was incredibly light-handed and did an amazing job. She captured exactly what I wanted and I was charged a very fair price. 10 out of 10, would go again

Quite an adventure. A big reason I was coming to NY was to get a tattoo from Mr. Dave Wallin @ 8 Of Swords. Before my noon appointment we decide to visit Prospect Park. Big mistake. Not remotely familiar w/ the area or the transit I manage to make myself nearly an hour late. Yikes. Plus we don’t have a cellphone. Rather than kick me out the door which is pretty much what I deserved I was rescued by visiting artist Philip Wolves who did an absolutely extraordinary job and as super patient and mellow to boot. Wow. Could not be happier. 8 Of Swords is easy to find and has a great no-attitude vibe. Aces.

The staff and owner are extremely friendly and welcoming, and are all very professional. I have never had any issues with payments, cancellations, or with anything there at all for the matter. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone as there are many talented artists there, able to service a variety of styles to accommodate different needs.
