My soon to be husband and I always make an annual trip to Salem, MA. This time around we decided to get tattoos to commemorate our trip. We walked into Salem Ink and asked if there would be anyway someone could see us for a walk in. Loki, the owner, was very polite & professional and told us to come back at around 5:30. Since we were on our trip, this was no problem — we continued walking around until 5:30. Loki did my tattoo and Ricky did my fiancé’s. I can honestly say that in the short time I chatted with Loki he turned out to be one of the most genuine people I’ve met. We talked movies, Netflix, television shows, relationships, teaching, college.. the list continues. Both Ricky and Loki treated us with respect and made us feel comfortable in unfamiliar tattoo territory (we both have shops that we frequent back home in western mass). Our new tradition will consist of getting a tattoo each time we visit Salem, right at Salem Ink Tattoo. Thank you guys so much for fitting us in! 11/10 would recommend.

Salem Ink is one of the most quality tattoo shops I've entered. Their new location on Derby street has pristine feel and comfortable, friendly atmosphere, and the attached gallery space makes it not only perfect for tattoos but perfect for discovering art and new artists local or otherwise. I've recently gotten a tattoo on my forearm by the shop owner, Loki, and I'm over the moon about how wonderful and clean it came out. I checked out several artists and studios before selecting Salem Ink, and I am very happy with my choice. I worked with Matt whose work is detailed and precise. Check out his portraits of Lovecraft, Poe, and the “goat” (you’ll know it when you see it). I appreciate the tasteful and clean setting as well as the shop’s easy access to all-day parking and restaurants. My tattoo is very detailed (and it’s just an outline right now; going back for color later) and looks great. Aftercare instructions are easy to follow and cover all the important things you need to know without trying to sell you expensive, special products like other shops do.

I was in Massachusetts for a trip and came here based on a recommendation from another tattoo shop down the street a couple blocks that unfortunately didn't have time to fit me in their schedule. I was very impressed upon entering the gallery, the artwork along the walls was right up my alley, gorgeous and spooky. Really fit the Salem vibe! Ed was my tattoo artist and was more then welcoming and accommodating to my walk-in. I was in his chair and being tattoo'd within twenty minutes of walking in the door. He was very nice and did a great job on my tattoo, I am very pleased with this experience, especially since it was my first tattoo! Also, his choice in music was incredible. Duran Duran when you're getting a tattoo of a cartoon cat? Picture perfect.

Popped in looking for a Tattoo artist who would be able to recreate a very delicate tattoo for me. I had seen Cassandras work online and had loved it, when i walked in without an appointment I was so happy that she was there and available. The entire Salem Ink facility is lovely. It is clean, modern and everyone is friendly. You are never made to feel uncomfortable and everyone I have dealt with is more than accomodating. Cassandra is an amazing artist. I have now seen her twice, once for a new tattoo and another for her to touch up an old and fading tattoo. Both times she was incredibly professional , kind and gentle. Cassandra has a great sense of humour and is never in a rush. I will be seeing her again soon I hope for some original work.

I saw Kylie yesterday for my first ever tattoo - I wanted a small, fine script on my forearm and had been told by another tattoo artist at a different shop that what I wanted was too small and would blur together. Kylie was confident that she had the right technique to get the look I wanted and she met and exceeded my expectations! Kylie is a perfectionist, and you definitely want that when getting something permanently tattooed on your body. Even for a small piece like this, she worked and reworked the writing ahead of time until I was happy with it and paid attention to every detail before and during the tattoo itself. She was friendly, professional, answered all my newbie questions and didn't mind that I had brought three friends with me. Most importantly, my tattoo looks amazing! I'm so glad I found Kylie and Salem Ink and I will definitely be back for more work from her soon. If you're looking for fine detail and/or script do yourself a favor and make an appointment with Kylie!

This is one of the cleanest, most upacale, most inviting tatoos shops over ever been inked in. The location is perfect, with easy walkable access and parking. The shop itself is immaculately maintained, well lit, clean and comfortable. The chaise by the windows in front for instance. Every single artist in this shop is great, both in technique, style and personality - from the owner Loki all the way down to their most recent interns and apprentices! I am happy to call most of them friends. Of the three tattoos I've had done at this shop, each one has been successively my most favorite one. Recently I had a lotus flower done as part of a larger 3/4 sleeve project by Loki, and from the color choice to the line work I was ecstatic. I've gotten so many compliments on it and it has healed just perfectly. If you're contemplating getting a tattoo donew in Salem, MA it is definitely best to check these guys out first. Drew

I had been thinking about getting a tattoo for a couple months and decided to walk in and see the shop and get a feel for the atmosphere. I had been to one other shop and was not too impressed. As soon as I walked in Ashlie was the artist who greeted me and I immediately felt at ease. The place is immaculate and everyone I encountered was friendly. The day of my actual tattoo went great. Felt very standoffish. Walked in and they had a sign in the front starting you must be 18, $100 minimum for tattoos, etc no one to greet you or notice you. Stood there for about 5 minutes before someone walked by me and my fiance. Went down the road to another tattoo shop.

I've followed Heather's work for years now, and I have nothing but respect for her work ethic, artistic eye, and concept design. I went to her with a few ideas for a cover-up design combining concepts of stained glass, graffiti & water color and she came up with an amazing design that I absolutely love. Salem Ink is, by far, one of the cleanest tattoo parlors I've ever been in. They require a deposit --and are over an hour drive away from me-- and I wouldn't think twice about making the trip again. I highly recommend checking them out and seeing for yourself.

Got a tattoo done by Matt and it came out perfectly. Initially I was a bit anxious about having to enlarge my design (Matt's recommendation) because mentally I thought it looked great at this smaller size. However after getting the tattoo done, what he recommended was completely right. It was a simple design but the line work, shading, and colors were perfect and exactly how I wanted it. You can see the details clearly at this size and I'm extremely pleased at how willing and accommodating he was throughout the process. Very professional and friendly vibes here.

I did a lot of research on artists in the area before I found Salem Ink and fell in love with Mike Guinn's work. He tattooed a zombie Yoshi theme on my arm and I couldn't be more in love with it. I can't go anywhere without people taking a picture or recognizing my ink from pictures they've seen online. The shop is extremely clean and all the artists are incredibly talented and fantastic people. It's the only place I go for my tattoos now!!

First of all, this gallery/studio is very welcoming and impeccably clean. Seconding this, I would like to point out my (our, as I was with my friend) experience. Matt our tattoo artist, as we were walk-ins, was extremely welcoming and hospitable. Let's talk more about Matt though; he being our artist, is way beyond expectations. His knowledge and experience is very extensive (black and grey, color, lining, dot work, color). We wanted a very specific type and style based on a very dark photo of a whale I took, and he surpassed our expectations. His diligence in cleanness (tattoos are not sterile) is extensive. He's very experienced and cultured in a wide variety of art and styles. I am personally recommending him to anyone that wishes to get tattooed.

I liked the tattoo that I had done. It was very small. Just a mac miller quote...the shop is nice, nice artwork on the walls. The only problem is that downtown Salem is an absolute mess to park so it sucks in that aspect. Overall good experience though. If they had a couple parking spots just for them I'd rate 5 stars

I've been going to Salem Ink for a few years now and every time I go it gets better. The establishment is so clean you could eat off the floor. Everyone is so friendly and positive. And my go to artist, Heather, is phenomenal. She's a super rad person and her art is phenomenal, plus she's open to input on the design (even last minute). She's also very considerate when it comes to your physical health and encourages taking breaks as needed. I swear I'm gonna go back for every tattoo I want.

I chose this place because they advertise in custom tattoos and for my second tattoo, I had a general idea of what I wanted, but I couldn't get a good picture to show the artist. However, when I met with Heather for the consultation, she knew exactly what I meant when describing the tattoo. She was very nice to work with and took the time to ask many questions about the design to make sure that it will look how I wanted it to. I got a galaxy tattoo, and I expected a simple black and blue design since that was all I could find online, but Heather was able to create a beautiful colorful piece that had many colors that came together nicely. She even seemed to read my mind when she suggested adding a moon to the design. The line work was amazing and the tattoo was better than expected. The studio was nice, clean, and very organized. The only downside to this place is the parking as the area around it has a two hour limit, so be careful when planning sessions. However, I was there for about three hours and my car wasn't towed. Overall, the place is amazing and I will definitely be going there again for future tattoos. Also, the pricing is relatively cheap compared to other studios in the area, so that is always a plus.

AMAZING experience. I went in on Friday with a design for a Norse sea_serpent. What better artist to have that done than by a guy named Loki. I gave him the design and told him to do ‘whatever’ he thought would make it better and more his own style. When I came back in the next day he showed me his design and I was so happy with it and blown away by it because it was such an improvement over the original design and really looked special and unique. It was a circle being placed on my upper arm and shoulder so it had a tricky placement and Loki nailed it on the first try with the stencil, the lines between the ink and the lines of my shoulder fit perfectly. I couldn’t be happier with this beautiful piece of art. And the experience itself was great, super clean and professional facilities, very friendly people, great original art everywhere, and in the room Loki was just a great cool chill guy to have a conversation with when you’re required to sit still for 3 hours.

First off- I loved the diversity in the portfolio work at Salem Ink. There were atleast 5 artists with very different styles to choose from. This isnt a one particular themed shop. I leaned more towards the illustrarive style and I had the best tattoo experience here with Heather. From our initial consult she was very patient with my questions, and gave some solid suggestions to transform my idea into the tattoo I'm rocking now! As someone who gets tattooed often and have had my share of not so comfortable experiences, this shop was nothing but welcoming and professional. My piece has healed wonderfully, and she was very thorough with the entire process. The artists at the front desk were awesome, engaging and fun to chat with. I will definitely be back in the future to continue my sleeve!

I got my first tattoo from Adam Harmon yesterday. It's a lyric on my ribs. Considering it was my first tattoo and they say that is the most painful place to get it, I have to admit, Adam did an amazing job. The pain was minimal and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would recommend Salem Ink to anyone. My fiance also got his tattoo from Loki. He got a Game of Thrones sigil on his arm, and it's fantastic! The prices were beyond reasonable. We are most definitely going to go back.

This was my second tattoo and the whole experience was terrific. I had the good fortune to be able to book my appointment with Loki (the owner). I knew this was going to take quite a bit of time so I brought my Kindle, Music and other stuff to keep me entertained, needless to say I never even opened the book or plugged into my music. Loki was an absolute pleasure to sit and talk to for 2+ hours. He is smart, funny and interesting and made the time fly by, but most importantly he is a true artist in every sense. My tattoo was a Cherry Blossom Tree but very abstract and meant to look like a water color painting. He gave me the exact tattoo I was looking for I LOVE IT. It is absolutely beautiful and I am thrilled with the way it came out. I will definitely go back to him for my next one and look forward to it!

I had a good experience with Salem Ink last year, but it was just a walk-in so there wasn't much of an impression to be made. However, today was my first tattoo with an appointment. About a week ago I sought out Ashlie for my upcoming tattoos, and we set up an appointment. Man, I was not disappointed! Ashlie was wonderful! She rolled with the punches when I changed my tattoos around and was very accommodating. She was communicative and encouraging during my tiny tattoos. Even though they were small, she was very meticulous with them and very patient with me. I would not only recommend this shop (sanitary, beautiful, and calming) but Ashlie as an artist. There are no boxes she didn't check on my list.

Me and my husband got matching tattoos here on vacation.. mine came out great. His looks horrible. It took months to heal because the tattooist chewed up his skin.. after it finally healed, the coloring is horrible. It was a simple black tattoo. His looks like a distrssed grey, poorly done tattoo. Not our first tattoos either. I think his tattooist was rushing since we were the last appts for the day. Really disappointed.

Annual trip to Salem for the Halloween Season and the weather was brutal so I figured check a box off my bucket list of getting a Halloween themed tattoo in Salem. First off the place is also a Art Gallery so there so some amazing works of art on display. Staff is friendly, listen to what you want, work on the concept, and gets down to it. Establishment is clean and sterile with clean and precise work. Really could you ask for anything more from a tattoo parlor.

I cannot recommend Loki at Salem Ink enough! The shop is clean, comfortable, and the gallery is full of a lot of incredible work by the Salem Ink artists. I had sent my design to Loki the week before, and he was very patient and thorough in talking through it with me as it's my first tattoo. He made honest recommendations for the design that I'd drawn, talking through line work and sizing down to every little detail. When I got to the shop we put the final touches on, and about an hour/hour-15 later, I had EXACTLY what I wanted, EXACTLY where I wanted it. It was a super chill session, I felt very comfortable the entire time, and he talked me through everything he was doing. Couldn't be happier with the experience and the work Loki did. Will definitely be going back!

I was only visiting Salem, but I may have to drive up again in the future for another tattoo since I love the shop and its atmosphere so much.

These guys are simply amazing. I went to Salem on Tuesday. We called to see if they had anything open for me to come in and get a tat. They said sure come in when you can no rush. We walked there and as we opened the door we were greeted with a smile. Salem Ink is by far the cleanest shop I've ever stepped foot in. When I got my tattoo Adam Harmon did it, he made sure to put it where I wanted it and that man does crisp neat lettering. These guys with being so professional yet so down to earth makes the shop such a better place. I've been there once but will for sure make the hour drive to get more work done by them. these guys deserve 10 stars but noooo google only allows 5. I recommend if you want an amazing tattoo I suggest you make the trip and go see them. Great team they are!!!

This trip was fairly last minute so we didn't make an appointment. We walked in, and they managed to fit us in that day. Super reasonable prices, and one of the cleanest shops I've ever seen. They have amazing art on the walls too. I was visiting Salem with a girl friend and we were just walking around and saw this shop. We went in because there was 1 more tattoo that I wanted to get. The shop is amazingly clean and really pretty. I like how all the artists have their own rooms with doors so it's very private. Adam was really nice and patient with me. I had to have the tat I wanted emailed to me so I could show him. It was my mothers signature from her passport. My son looked it when I got home and said it was the best tattoo that I have. I had just recently got 2 earlier this year, which are very good as well, but this one stood out. I'd make the trip again to go see Adam should I want another one.

Had a great experience over the last month with Salem Inc. Went for 2 4+ hour sessions for a shoulder tattoo and found the establishment clean and aesthetic and its employees to be extremely professional and committed to their work. The artist who did my piece (Matt) was completely devoted to the tattoo during our sessions, taking less than 3 5 minute breaks during each of our two sessions. He proved to be very knowledgeable about tattoos and their healing process. I plan to return for more work to this shop and would recommend it to my friends and others who are interested in getting tattoos in the future.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but want to share my disappointing experience so that anyone in a similar boat can make an informed decision about where to take their business. BEWARE: if you care a lot about the design you want, want good communication with the artist before your appointment (assuming you're not a walk-in) and basically want to be treated with respect, do yourself a favor and just avoid this place!! I went in to Salem Ink mid-March for my first tattoo -- I wanted a mid-sized custom one and had a basic idea. I looked through the artist portfolios, and Cassandra's work really appealed to me. Since she was there at the desk, we were able to have our initial consultation about the tattoo design right then. We got along well and she seemed to "get" what I wanted. We made an appointment for a few weeks later on a Saturday, along with a follow-up appointment (it would have needed two sessions). I was really glad when she told said she would send me the design about a week before the appointment so I could see it, since that was really important to me. I didn't say at the time how important, but since she said she would send it to me, I trusted her word. The week of the appointment rolled around and no news, so I reached out. One day before the appointment, I got part of the design -- half of it line-drawn, half of it a really loose pencil sketch. I said I wasn't comfortable getting a permanent tattoo done without having a day or two to sit with it and make sure it was what I'd want for the rest of my life. I decided to push the first session to the second appointment we'd made for a couple weeks later, hoping that'd give her enough time to finish the design. Well, that didn't happen. At this point, I was feeling ignored. A couple days before the second appointment was supposed to happen, I decided to simply cancel the tattoo after still not hearing from her. She sent a nice reply (albeit two days later) hoping to work things out and offering to send me the scans of the sketches. I said that would be great and also hoped to work things out for perhaps a different tattoo or other solution (didn't really want to lose my $100 deposit), but then I never heard back. That was more than two weeks ago. Throughout this process, I would email sometimes several times in a row, only to go days without hearing back. I'm just so disappointed and frustrated with everything that's happened. I understand now it is often shop policy not to show the final design until the day of the appointment, but that was never clearly shared with me. When Cassandra wasn't able to fulfill her promise about sending the design early, she didn't even reach out to tell me, I had to ask. It's just not considerate, or good customer service. And to go days, even weeks at a time without receiving email replies? Unprofessional. All this and to be out my $100 deposit, it's just a big regret. Really can't recommend this shop to anyone if this is how they treat their customers. It seems this happens a lot since I'm not seeing a bunch of other reviews where people had similar experiences. Guess I should have done more research before.

I went to Salem Ink for my first tattoo a couple of months ago. My fiancee had passed away the week before and I wanted a shoulder tattoo done to memorialize her name and our anniversary. I had the pleasure of working with Loki, the shop owner, that evening. He was respectful of my inexperience with the process of planning the artwork - gracefully ensuring that I felt comfortable with what I wanted without the condescension I expected. The tattoo came out exactly the way I wanted, and Loki made good on his promise of a free touch-up which I just received today. On a whim, I got a second tattoo today along with the touch-up. It was a simple sort of piece relating to a hobby of mine, but again Loki was a fabulous host and the piece came out precisely as I wanted. Loki has me now feeling so comfortable with his process that I'm already addicted, and today established a plan for a much more significant sleeve-style piece that I look forward to seeing through to completion soon. After examining Ed's portfolio, I'm also starting to ponder other sleeve possibilities that match his art style; which, according to him, significantly contrasts Loki's "stippling" technique. This was before I met with Loki about my currently planned sleeve. I'm grateful for Ed's willingness to concede my business to Loki in favor of Loki's strengths with the style I wanted for this first sleeve - that speaks volumes to me about his desire to see Salem Ink customers happy with the work they receive.

For my first tattoo I wanted a half sleeve, I did a lot of research on who would be good and what shops I liked and who did the kind of art I wanted. I found Salem Ink and made the hour and a half trek there for a consult. Since I was so far away Loki was very accommodating with email consults so I did not need to keep driving back and forth. He was very helpful when I changed my mind about part of the piece and kept designing with enthusiasm! He was very excited about doing such a large watercolor piece and he made me even more excited to get it done. The work is stunning and very affordable and I cannot wait to get it finished! I am so please with the staff and the artists and the shop itself my boyfriend is also going to start getting pieces done with Loki. I will return again and again!

I got my first tatoo here...and a second, and I brought my boyfriend in for his. I came in as a walk in for my first session with Matt, and had a wonderful experience! Everything was very clean and sterile, and the art gallery in the front of the shop is impressive. I knew I was getting my ink done by the best when I saw all of the artists professional work on the walls. My first tattoo was painless, even though it was on my rib cage. I loved it so much that I had to book another session with Matt. My second tattoo is very special to me because I got it to help myself heal after someone dear to me passed away. Matt did a wonderful job listening to exactly what I wanted and it came out even more beautiful than I could have imagined. It is a medium sized piece on my back over my lower ribs, so it was rather uncomfortable, but done in one session. Matt played calming music that I would hear in my yoga class and even guided me through some breathing during the more painful parts. I can't say enough great things about this shop!

Salem ink is my favorite tattoo parlor by far. My girlfriend, her friend, and I all came in as walk ins on a busy day and all of the tattooists were very accommodating. All of their artwork is amazing and top of the line. Everyone was very friendly and talkitive which was nice. The minimum was $100 but everyone was very flexible with our budgets. I recommend this establishment for anyone looking to get a tattoo. They have a bunch of different artists with different styles so someone there would be able to tattoo whatever you are looking for.

I had just arrived to see some family and friends and thought I'd pass the time between parties and dinners with a few tattoos. It was Sunday, just a couple of days before Halloween and I foolishly drove through Salem to find this shop for a quote or two on some ink. The town was elbow to butt-cheek and I realized I wouldn't be able to get to this shop until after Halloween, but fate intervened and there was a parking spot right across the street. I went inside and was greeted by some friendly faces and spoke with the young artist who asked what I was looking for. I took out my printout of my designs, and asked which one excited him (nothing worse that a tattoo artist not being excited by the work he/she has to pour over for an hour or three. Ed loved the piece, gave me a very fair quote (actually lower than posted prices of other area shops) and I decided to make an appointment. I've travelled around quite a bit and had ink-work from all over... all over, so to speak. After a while, you can spot a tattoo artist who knows his/her craft by how they question you and how they answer your questions. This artist, Ed, impressed me enough that when he said he could do the tattoo right away, I jumped at the chance to get this showpiece done so it would heal before I flew home from vacation. Not only was I not disappointed by Ed's talent and the end piece (almost healed completely, so no picture yet), I made an appointment for another showpiece tat... and ended up with TWO more! When you find a great tattoo artist, stick with them, so I didn't bother going to any other shop for my "tat-a-day" plans. The three I received from Salem Ink were incredible! I can hardly wait to come back in the spring for more. Now, the location may scare off serious inkaholics, thinking it's "hacky" like one of those shops in Cancun or New Orleans that does souvenir-type tattoos and changes hands every 92 hours due to arrests for stealing human kidneys. This is not the case. They are SERIOUSLY fantastic talents who ended up in a location that has a lot of walk-in traffic. Yes, they admit they get a lot of requests for witch hats, black cats, brooms, etc., but it is Salem and you will get that kind of customer. Nothing wrong with that. We all remember our first tattoo. If you just want to drop in for a souvenir of Salem, be assured you will be treated as a valued client, the place is VERY clean, professional, and they are all very friendly. They put up with me for hours, on two different days, so they at least are well mannered and tolerant! ;-)

We knew two things while planning our trip...we wanted to see all things Hocus Pocus-related and we wanted Best Friend tattoos while in Salem. We searched online for about a month before our trip and we knew we wanted to visit Salem Ink. My gut kept telling me this was our shop to go to. We did a lot of research and narrowed it down to 2 places...Salem Ink and Witch City Ink. When we got to Salem Ink, we were greeted by Ricky. We explained our crazy idea, showed him a combination of 3 pre-printed pictures and he immediately went to work making our vision become a reality. He made it seem like our idea wasn’t as crazy as it was (even though we know it was). He printed out our preview and we decided on size. He worked with us to set an appointment for Sunday as soon as they opened as we were leaving to Florida in the evening. Ricky was a pleasure to work with and his work is phenomenal. Highly recommend Salem Ink and Ricky :)

Got a tattoo from here when on vacation in August. I paid $100 and when I handed the guy a fifty and (3) 20's, he didn't even ask if i wanted change. Sorry bud, you don't automatically get a tip. Besides that, he everytime I tried making conversation, he would say 1 or 2 words. Just kind of awkward. It literally took a half hour and didn't really look as good as I thought it could of been. I had a few locals tell me to go to Witch City but they didn't have any openings when I went. I know the reviews on Google are perfect (up until now) but it was definitely not a perfect experience.

Called ahead of time asking for a walk in appointment, they were more than welcome to it. First impressions of the shop were good, really liked the artwork posted on the walls. Rick’s attention to detail with my tattoo idea impressed me. The worst part about my visit was the wait while Rick was disinfecting everything but if his commitment to ensuring a safe and clean work station makes me wait an extra 10 minutes, then by all means. I love the outcome and will definitely go there again for all my tattoo needs! I would rate it 10/10 but I can’t go past 5. Definitely the best shop in the area.

I was on a family trip up to Boston and Salem and my sister and i decided to get tattooed. Note going to Salem in the month of October is like going to Time Square on New Years. We went on Sunday the 16th and went in the shop around 1. They said they were booked until around 6ish. My artist was Heather Cierri. This was my first tattoo and didn't know what to expect really. She assured me I had nothing to worry about. After the artwork was done, she went through all the after care information I could ever need. My tattoo took around 40 minutes. She was very nice. I worked with Heather on an idea of an ocean wave with the Pisces symbol encorporated in it somehow. I showed her some photos to get an idea of what I wanted but I was excited to see what she came up with. She showed me a photo of what she was thinking and I loved it. I showed up to my appointment and she showed me her final drawing and I absolutely loved it! It's like she pulled all my ideas out of my head and put it on paper. She made me very comfortable and relaxed for my first experience sitting for more than 20 minutes for a tattoo. It was also my first color tattoo and I am in love with it! Will definitely be back to Salem Ink!
