Three words come to mind with Fatty's in Silver Spring. Friendly, professional, and trustworthy. All staff members are polite and accommodating. I always felt welcome in the shop from the moment I walked in the door. Their polite and courteous interactions make it a pleasant place to be. The level of expertise demonstrated by Fatty's artists is second to none. Look at their portfolio's online and you'll see that the work they do is always top notch. I say the shop is trustworthy because Fatty gave me excellent advice when it came to the layout and overall composition of my tattoo. I came in with a general idea and felt 100% comfortable asking Fatty for his advice on size, colors, and level of detail. I knew right off the bat that he could be trusted because his honest feedback made it clear he wanted what was best for me and my tattoo.

I got my first tattoo here from Stephanie. I walked in without a picture but a basic concept of what I wanted, we spoke a little bit about the concept and why I chose it, making me feel comfortable. We then scheduled an appointment. The shop gave me her email so I was able to send a couple pics I found that I liked. When I came in to the appointment I was pleasantly surprised with what she came up with. The whole thing didn't take too long and we chatted through a lot of the process. She was really easygoing and relaxing. I would recommend her to any of my friends.

Called them about a month ago asking if I could come in and get my nose pierced for my 16th birthday, told me I need to bring a passport, birth certificate, and my parents identification. I say my passport is expired and they say it’s fine still bring it in. I call back today and they say that’s not true and I need to bring something in. Haven’t been taken my learns yet and even if I did it wouldn’t come until two weeks. I wanted to get my nose pierced on my actual 16th birthday, and I’ve been waiting for 2 years. So thank you fattys for absolutely nothing !

Very professional and nice neat shop!! However, they seem to be pricey for the piercings, as other shops may charge a flat fee including jewelry they charge for the piercing and jewelry separately.

I've been tattooed by Zac on four separate occasions and I plan to keep going back. He's really focused on giving you the best tattoo possible. He worked up a beautiful design for a half sleeve on my right arm a did a fantastic job with the outline and color. I couldn't be happier with it. He's also very patient and spent a good deal of time making sure the placement was right for a tattoo on my left arm that wraps around my bicep. He's a real chill guy and great to talk to. The shop itself is very clean and comfortable. Everyone I've met that works there has been friendly and knowledgeable. It's a great atmosphere for getting tattooed.

Completely disorganized and zero stock. I went to Fatty's DuPont to have a surface piercing done on 8/18/19 around 3:30 pm. They did not have any of the posts in stock so they called the Silver Spring location, at the direction of piercer Danni, because she was confident they had everything there and that she could do the piercing on Monday. The Silver Spring Store said they did not have any posts in stock. Danni assured me that they did and that "Nick" was new. To be safe, on 8/19/19 at 2 pm I called Fatty's Silver Spring to speak with Danni and make sure everything was in stock. Shockingly, I was told that all the posts/ supplies were moved to Fatty's DuPont overnight. That literally makes no sense.

This place has racist tattoo artists or they blatantly discriminate against black people. Not sure which one but it's all equally as awful. No debating. I came here and asked to a quote to cover up a small tatto. I was told that for a flower with color it would start at 600 bucks. Mind you the tattoo they would cover was no more than 3 inches long if that. I was told for a basic lotus flower ( not even realistic" with possible color it would range from 600 and up. I was also told I was welcome to "shop around" . Also, the tattoo artist never came out to speak to me to even see the tatto but was behind a wall instructing the receptionist on what to say to me . Meanwhile another black woman came and showed a basic bird she wanted small and colored in black! They told her starting at 250 ! The tatto artist didn't show his face to her either. Meanwhile I have white friends who go here who have large tattoos from this place for 300 bucks . How does this sound? I went to tatoo paradise in Wheaton and got the cover up with a large flower (larger than the one I showed the people at this place) with leaves, Color and other flowers around it for 250! Shout out to Ryan . So moral of the story black people don't waste your dollars here.

I came to fatty with an idea that I was prepared to fly to California to get bc I didn't know if an East coast artist could pull it off. As soon as I walked in the door he made me feel right at home, vibed with my idea, and I knew this was the right place to come. Fatty is definitely producing some of the best work on the East Coast! I came back for my first session and he already had two references for the main part of the tattoo that were way better than I had started with. Then using markers and his expertise laid the whole 3/4 sleeve out on my arm to make sure it flowed correctly. From there over the next few sessions the tattoo came alive and fatty skillfully adjusted to how it healed, how to fill it in, and delivered the tattoo I dreamed of. Can't speak highly enough about his skill, attention to detail, cleanliness, and professionalism. After all the hours in the chair with fatty I'd call him a friend and I'll be back for my next tattoo whenever that may be. I'm sure soon. He is the best there is!

I had a pretty great experience here yesterday. I went in with a design in mind and Ray helped me to bring it to life. He was friendly and insightful and even suggested a better location for my tattoo than the original location I had in mind. He was professional and maintained good conversation throughout the session and made me feel comfortable. His skills are WELL worth the price you pay and I sure can't wait for my tattoo to heal so I can see the final look! Bad experience with getting my septum done here , what should have barely taken 5 mins took about 15 painful minutes because "Whoops this thing doesn't work, let me get a new one" So you should have known by the second try get another whtever-that-was but no you kept poking inside my nose to find the exit of the septum. I only let the "piercer" finish because I had already gotten that needle through I wasn't about to do that for nothing... also its true about them over charging for tattoos to color people, even the front lady was like "hm, i would say it would be around 250 for that kind of tattoo", then she goes ask, and comes back with 550! when the guy barely even talked to her. Never coming back here again.

I really wanted to love this shop, but unfortunately didn't have a great experience. The owner's customer service was great, but the piercer not so much. Though I asked for a snug hoop for my nose (and was willing to wait for it to be ordered), Kyle eyeballed my size and ended up putting one wayyy too large. It looked ridiculous. I was so disappointed but he didn't seem to care too much. So that was $95 not well spent. Went to another piercer and got one that fits perfectly. I'm really sorry my experience wasn't great.

On 9/23/17, I went into the Sliver Spring location to get a nose piercing. Kyle was the best. I had a million questions, he was patient and answered all my questions. He is an awesome piercer, it was quick and painless.

It's pretty difficult to judge the place with multiple artists. My review is about Ben (he did my tattoo). He did a great job with my sketches ( and I am not an artist), gave me an idea how it can be done and was willing to discuss any specifics. It's not cheap (but if you go custom you should know that anyway). I have seen some negative reviews about this place. Just do your homework, be prepared, check with your doctor if you are an allergic for something (for example I used Aquaphor and Curad pads for bandage after – just discuss that beforehand). To give an idea how good it was – the healing completed in 4 days, no bleeding or discoloration, pilling was just one day or so – this is for 2 hours tattoo.

I would go nowhere else for tattoo work. I can't speak for the piercing as I do not get any, but I have spent hundreds of hours at Fattys working on very large tattoo project. I have spent time at all three locations and am amazed at the diverse cross section of people who come in for tattoo work, it has truly become a medium that unites everyone. You will not find "cheap" tattoo work here as everything is custom. Once you commit to a tattoo, you are going to get more than just an amazing piece of artwork that you will be able to wear. You will get an experience that transcends your expectations. You'll get an opportunity to share your experiences with whomever does your tattoo work and will leave knowing that you picked the right place and got far more than just a tattoo. During all the hours I've spent getting tattooed, I've personally witnessed virtually all of the long term artists give consultations. What I've seen first hand is exactly what I experienced when I went in. All attention given to the potential client who is there to discuss their project and once the discussion progresses you see a genuine enthusiasm on the part of the artist to help the potential client achieve their vision through their art. If you have no tattoos or many tattoos, I would recommend Fattys as your first choice for any tattoo work in the DC area. This location is super easy to get to being just off of 495 with plenty of public garage parking. Go in and share your idea for what you'd like on your tattoo, and you'll walk away with a concept idea that not only met YOUR ideas but exceeded them with potential suggestions made by the artist.
