I was in vacation in NOLA and wanted to get my first tattoo. While riding a streetcar, I saw Forbidden Art. I did my research and called to see if an appointment was necessary. Not only was I able to come right in, but Ryan took very good care of me. I was so nervous and the experience was much better than I ever thought it could have been. Came to New Orleans for the Essences Music Festival. At 1:00 my friends and I decided to go get tattoos and piercings. We walked in and Blair was very welcoming! She helped us to pick out tattoos and was very patient with helping us pick out font styles while also easing our nerves. The shop was very clean and the small tattoos that we got we were in and out in 20 minutes! I would highly recommend this place!!

My Sister in Law went in to get her nipples pierced. First of all the piercer was asleep when we walked in. When we got back there he was talking bad about another tattoo artist who just happened to be my aunt. Never in my life have I heard of another artist talking smack about another artist. He pierced one of her aerolas instead of the nipple which cause painful swelling and bruising and the piercings he put in her nipples turned out to be tongue piercings so now she has to let them close to redo them. I would never recommend going to place because of the hate that he talked about another artist, but even more that a piercer DOESNT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A TONGUE PIERCING AND A NIPPLE PIERCING. Please never go here. Wish I could give 0 stars.

Me and my girlfriends came into town on vacation and wanted to get a tattoo, after looking and calling around we decided Forbidden tattoo was the right place for us. The price was more then fair and the gentleman at the counter, I belive to be the owner, was absolutely awesome! He was so helpful and very nice. Clean shop right on St. Charles st. It was very accessible to get to by the trolley which was nice. All the staff were pleasant to interact with & the artwork was well worth the money . Before I arrived at this absolutely amazing shop, I made the mistake of going to two other shops that apparently didn't think my money was green enough. My bf and I went to NOLA for our 1 year anniversary in Sept 2014 and ended spending a significant amount of time at Forbidden Art. Rain added to one of my tattoos and did 2 more on my back...over 3 days lol. My bf got a tattoo on his foot and some other ink touched up on his sleeve. Raven Bones provided a really great first experience getting a tattoo for me. He is a very professional artist who is dedicated to being very transparent about his work ethic. Bones made sure I saw him opening new sterile packages of equipment pieces he would use for working on my ankle, providing advice on what health and safety signs to watch out for if I was to ever go to other tattoo parlors. I really appreciated that. He was very accommodating in adjusting any particular traits of the tattoo design that we wanted. His coworkers are really nice and fun to be around as well. I’m very happy with my tattoo, my very first one, and glad that Raven Bones was my tattoo artist. He’s a really cool guy, a lifelong New Orleans resident, who is very down-to-earth and kind. I hope to go back one day if I want another tattoo in the future.

I went 2 days ago to get my nipples pierced. The guy was sleeping when I came in. When I left I had to ask about care instructions cause they didn’t give me any info. They just said to clean it. No care instruction sheet or anything. When I got home I realized it wasn't plain bars, they had words in them "virgin" "f*** me" "lick me" Today I woke up and they were swollen. I went to a shop in town to check it out and they told me I was pierced through the areola, not the nipple, one was crooked, and that he used tongue rings. I would NEVER recommend going to this place. I paid $70 for 2 days of piercings. Now they are healing before I can get them done again in the correct spot and with the correct type of jewelry.

Went here with some co workers after work to get a tattoo... I hate listening to reviews because everyone's experience is different but man do I regret that. The people that work there were friendly enough but the artist just seemed to want to get it over with. He worked on my finger for maybe 15 minutes and then told me I was done and moved on to my co worker who was in the chair for roughly the same amount of time. It's been about 3 weeks since but I wanted to give myself proper healing time before jumping the gun. My tattoo is blown out and uneven, and in going to a shop down the street, they said that I may also have nerve damage based off of me saying that there's sharp zings whenever it gets hit on something (it's completely healed at this point... it's blown out, the fading didn't stick and I had another shop fix it, thank god! Do NOT waste your money here because I guarantee they won't give it back

I’ve been twice and I like the atmosphere, but the first time Dustin did a super simple piece on my wrist that came out pretty bad, wiggly lines, cloudy saturation, etc, and then I came back and got a small piece from Raven and it was a great experience. He’s super personable, lines look great, and he touched up the piece on my wrist for me. Totally changed my perception of the whole place and I’m sure I’ll be back.

Very nice staff, clean shop and well priced. BUT I had a small tattoo done on my foot and not only was it not completely finished (I noticed later that some of the outline was just the temporary ink) but after it healed, all of the shading flaked off with my skin! I can only assume that it was not done deep enough and now all of the dark area of my tattoo looks terrible. I initially loved the design and now it looks nothing like the drawing she started with

Horrible experience and even worst tattoos. Went with friends for their first tattoos. The staff was rude and dismissive of their requested tattoos. We should have left then, but stayed. I watched as Joe (the tattoo artist) completed both of their small tattoos in a very rushed 20 minutes. For one tattoo, Joe used an outline drawn-on with a ballpoint pen, not allowing him to see different placements or get a solid idea of how tthe line work would actually appear. For the other friend, he used a stencil, but was very insistent she not actually place the stencil on her skin so he would not have to remove it again. Instead, he asked that she just imagine how it would look by moving around the paper. Not very professional. The end results were equally disappointing. The lines were very noticeably not straight, the line widths are inconsistent throughout the tattoos. I would advise all to find another shop.

I do not recommend this place to anyone. They do not follow cleanly guidelines. I got my ear pierced and when I got home the earring fell out. When I called to complain to the owner he hung up on me. So I drove over and they jammed another earring in my ear except a hoop. They let me walk out with my ear dripping. The owner basically blamed me for the earring falling out and them not using a back on the earring. Do not use this place!!! Mid city voo doo is a much better experience. I wouldn’t even give this place one star but it’s making me.

My other half and I went to New Orleans for Halloween. We decided to get tattoos while we were there. Apparently so did everyone else. Lol. We were looking for a studio that could take us on short notice. We went to several with no luck because most were closing early for the holiday. The universe pointed us to Forbidden Art. Bravo Universe! We called and they said come on over. Blair was our artist. She was amazing. She drew up our ideas and got us started right away. She was a pleasure to work with. I have never had a better experience anywhere. ( and I'm covered in art) She made sure we were happy with the art before she started. This girl got mad skills! I would highly recommend her to anyone going to New Orleans. I gotta say when my boyfriend picked out our tattoos I was skeptical of getting a zombie lady on me for life.....but with Blair's skill....she made it look amazing. It's now my favorite piece of art. Looking forward to going back to her for more on future trips. She is an amazing artist. Best kept secret in New Orleans. Her use of color and shading is outta this world. Stumbled across this shop because it was close to my hotel. Went in to get some pricing at 11:30 pm and loved the staff and their work. My party of 4 left after 2:30AM with 2 new tattoos, 1 color touch up, and a sketch. We were very happy with our artist Eric Quinn and our front desk helper T. Nothing like New Orleans hospitality! Was thrilled to see all of the melanin poppin!

My wife and I stopped in, when we started telling the guy what we wanted he pointed to a guy sleeping on a couch and yelled to him "Roy(not real name) you have a customer. Roy seemed drunk, and or possibly high but definitely not coherent enough to speak let alone put ink into my body. Roy then quoted us $150...paused for a second ...$160 for two tattoos that would have been no bigger than half a pinky finger each. Needless to say we left Roy and the forbidden tattoo shop. I wouldn't recommend them at all, felt like they were trying to rip us off and didn't even try to be sly about it.

Beginning of the year I got a small, simple tattoo. It has uneven, wonky lines which would've been helped if they had put more effort into the stencil - they didn't want to walk down the road for new printer toner so drew it out by hand - should've said something but as it was my first tattoo I placed absolute faith in them. 2 star for the shop cleanliness and otherwise good time

My mom and I walked in for matching mask tattoos. Raven quickly drew something up that we instantly loved. The color he did was so great, it pops perfectly! He was very professional and hysterical the whole time, he and another artist had us cracking up the whole time! If ever back in New Orleans, I would definitely come back to this shop for Raven!

Came in randomly on a trip just thinking about something simple. Dusty asked what we had interest in and after showing him some concepts he asked if he could also touch up some older work. Not only did he call out exactly what I was looking for, he made recommendations for the style so it flowed with my other pieces. My boyfriend got a piece he had been thinking about for ages and not only was it well designed he executed perfect circles, a cover up and a band around the arm in no time. Love this spot!

Great experience had a small minor hick up but the owner immediately corrected the mistake made it right and exceeded my expectations I would recommend this tattoo shop to anyone looking for a great tattoo Josh did my tattoo very knowledgeable and a great artist the atmosphere was laid-back and comfortable and great cleanliness The owner and the other artist continually came to check to make sure I was doing good and comfortable did a three hour session probably going to do a lot more ink there.

We were in town for a night for work and found this shop. We arrived around 11pm and I showed Raven an idea of what I wanted and he drew it up and sized it so fast. Highly recommend this place! Super clean, an awesome atmosphere and environment and amazing work. By far my favorite piece yet!

Used the ATM machine in shop it went through AMF then the guys told me it was empty.no out of order sign.money was taken out of my account. Shop told me atm would put back before midnight.it still has not been refunded.thanks guys for ruining my vacay

If I remember correctly, Dustin is the artist that did my tattoo. Great guy that doesn't have a heavy hand like other artists that's done a tat on me. Just needs a drink machine and colder A/C & would have gotten 5 stars. Go by and say Hi to Dusty & tell him the Hillbilly Chief sent ya.
