I live nearby Wild Wind and knew that when I was ready for my next tattoo that this was the place I wanted to check out. The decor is awesome and very welcoming, and later coming to find out all of the art is either from Rich and Chris' personal collection, or their own paintings and illustrations. Rich is the artist that I worked with, starting with some ideas that he helped to work through with me and then scheduling an appointment. He was awesome the whole way through. He gave me very honest opinions about watercolor tattoos and that adding a little bit of shading will make a huge difference (he was right). He is also just a really nice guy to hang out with for a few hours, which makes the whole process even more enjoyable. The tattoo I got is probably 3"x5" on my forearm and he finished it all in about 1.5 hours. The work itself is beautiful. The shading and line work is awesome and I get so many compliments daily about how it looks like it was literally painted on my arm. Anyway, I have already recommended this place to a bunch of friends and I know I'll be back for sure.

I've been getting tattooed by Rich Marafioti for a while now and I'm super pumped he decided to open this shop. Between him and Chris, the quality of work is amazing and ever since the opening there has always been a reason to go to Wild Wind, even if you're not getting tattooed. It's not pretentious like a lot of other tattoo shops in that area (or really anywhere), and if that's not reason enough, they've always got some unique art installation on display, it's super clean, in a really convenient location, and for the artistry they provide, super reasonably priced. I would follow Rich anywhere to be honest, that's how amazing of a tattoo artist he is - he brought my forearm tattoo to life by free handing these amazingly colored wildflowers that I would never have been able to visualize or verbalize myself. Seriously, if you are considering a tattoo, go here or you'll forever have REGERTS (bad tattoo joke-see what i did there?)

My wife and I have used Carlos for four different tattoos here, and my sister-in-law saw Chris to get a shoulder tattoo done. We have been all up and down Illinois and California looking for someone who can do traditional this perfectly. The professionalism of the shop is top notch, but the most unique thing is the artistry displayed. Each one of the artist is very skilled at tattooing and great at the creative design aspect. In the back of the shop is a large wall that each artist has an opportunity to decorate, paint, and show off their artistic skills. The vibe inside will be very comfortable for The crowd who enjoys punk music, chill people, and amazing tattooers. I have a literally started social media campaign to get Carlos more recognition because of the amazing work he's done and from what i've seen on his Instagram. We both got simple tattoos but they both did a really great job and were very communicative about everything. I picked Wild Wind Tattoo for my first tattoo experience, and got two palm-sized traditional Chinese character tats from Rich at the beginning of August. The have healed very nicely with no issues, and I have gotten compliments on the line work from friends with several tats, and also compliments on the quality of the character rendering from my Chinese friends. In addition to the quality of the tats themselves, Rich was very professional and competent. His responses to my pre-appointment emails were prompt, clear, and organized. Lastly, I'll note that I first became aware of Wild Wind when they hosted a fundraising benefit for a a local charity that I volunteer with. I came here for my first tattoo a year ago because I was referred by a friend. I didn’t have any experience and didn’t know what to expect from a tattoo parlor. I came with my two sisters and we were all getting tattoos of our favorite animals on our sides. Rich did my sister’s tattoo and Chris did mine and my other sister. Looking at these now that I have a few tattoos, I can see that the work is poor quality. I went back a few months later to get a tattoo on my arm and on my ear because it was the only place I knew. Now I wish I had shopped around because I got two more poor quality tattoos on that other visit. The second time I was alone and was treated poorly by Rich and Chris. I showed them the ear tattoo of my friend (we decided to get matching ones) and they said it was a fake tattoo and they couldn’t replicate. I was told this by Rich twice and by Chris once even though I knew it was a real tattoo. I could kick myself for still letting them tattoo me. I still have the misshapen ear tattoo that I’ll someday have to fix. In the meantime, I just got a big cover up on the arm tattoo I got that second time. When I went to my new artist, she assumed a friend did it for me saying, “well you could tell they KIND OF knew what they were doing”. I was too embarrassed to correct her.

Rich who’s the owner of the place is one of the nicest and coolest dudes I’ve ever met. I’ve been getting tattooed by him for 10years now. I’ve followed him around shop to shop until he opened his own. The shop doesn’t have the intimidating vibe some other “top tattoo shops” have, it’s a very welcoming and inclusive place and the music selection is always on point. The staff is great and very good people, I can’t stress enough how cool this place is.

Rich might be a soft spoken person of few words but he is a phenomenal tattoo artist. His attention to detail, artistry skills and a clients needs is amazing. The studio is super clean tastefully decorated and inviting. I had a custom piece done that requires several two hour sessions. The price of $150 dollars an hour might scare people but don't forget a tattoo is permanent and not a time to skimp on the price if you want the work done right the first time. I will recommend this studio to anyone who asks.
