So I actually got a tattoo from Curtis at Hula Girl Tattoo a little less than a month ago. That said, I wanted to wait until it was fully healed before writing a review (just in case). I'm very happy to report that after a few weeks my tattoo is all healed up and still looks great! As tattoo virgins, my wife and I were very nervous. Curtis designed us matching his/hers tattoos that look great. He was extremely helpful and supportive and talked us through the whole process from showing us the new needles in packaging to discussing aftercare. Overall it was a very positive experience and I would definitely recommend this place. The next time I'm in Maui I will definitely be back!

Anthony was amazing. I went in to get a polynesian hook tattooed on my left pec/shoulder, and he did a freehand custom design. It is by far my favorite piece to date. He really took his time to pack detail into the piece. However, It wasn’t just his amazing artwork that left a lasting impression on me. He gave my wife and I some ideas of stuff to do in Maui, provided us with some awesome recipes to make back home, and shared some stories of his life while there. It truly was one of the best experiences i’ve ever had while getting inked. I want to thank Anthony and Hula Girl Tatto for providing me an unforgettable memory of Maui, and an amazing piece of art that I can’t wait to show off back at home! Mahalo guys!!!

My comment doesn't go for the shop overall. I have no clue on how is the owners work quality, but I've been there and started my tattoo with a girl I don't know the name but yeah I can remember her heavy hands dragging those needles on my skin while making a lot of bumps, crooked lines, and a terrible perception of what my drawing was. While outlining into the carbon copy she was getting distracted at all times and probably that is what had caused the tattoo failure. Plus, there were lot of people moving around the tattoo room and helping the distracted tattooist to get even more distracted. A fully unpleasant experience.

My husband and I got tattooed by Marc before we left. He is awesome! He took the time to ask how long we planned to stay and advised us to make an appointment towards the end of our trip. Our tattoos came out amazing and we enjoyed talking to him during the process. We hope to return to Maui and would definitely like to be tattooed by Marc again! Aloha and Mahalo!

Anthony Hunter is Amazing! I went in to meet him on behalf of my cousin Joel Contreras. Next thing you know we started talking about ideas for a tattoo for me. He said go home sleep on it and call me if you interested. Well I half to say I went through with it. His place is clean, showed me all the needles in its own casing, sealed and dated, he also went through the entire process in detail. The end result is better than what I expected and imagined. Was given an estimate but declined to book so I could check out some other parlors on the island (estimate was $150) came back in today and asked if they had time.... now since it's the same day its $75 more??? Anthony Hunter was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I came in with an idea of what I wanted, and he absolutely nailed it, hit it right out of the ball park. He drew the tattoo right on my arm freestyle with a permanent marker, ensured it was what I wanted, and then began tattooing. It could not have turned out better. I absolutely love the colours and the line work. I also liked that the shop uses brand new tools (in the packaging) and he shows you before he begins what the expiry date is on them. This place is clean, the staff is wonderful, and they are reasonably priced. I won't go anywhere else on the island to get tattooed because I made the right choice coming here. I was visiting my friend who lives on Maui and everywhere in the country I visit, I get a tattoo. This shop was recommended by one of her local friends and after I did a decent amount of research I decided on here. The shop is clean, well organized, and very accommodating to walk-ins. I had a very simple tattoo done yesterday (4/30/16) by Anthony Hunter and am quite pleased with the results. I was also pleased that they show you the needles they use before they open them (as an infectious disease virologist/public health worker, I like that they're following rules). The $80 base price vs. the $60 base price everywhere else I've been in the U.S. was the only thing that was different, but everything else is more expensive in HI so I'm not surprised at all. Overall, I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for a clean and well-kept shop with people that are very skilled, friendly, and dedicated.

I live on Maui and can honestly say that Hula Girl is the BEST TATTOO SHOP ON ISLAND. Anthony worked with me on totally blacking out the half sleeve on my arm and I couldn't be any happier with the way it came out. His attention to detail, work flow, and desire to make sure I was 100% satisfied was absolutely refreshing. I have never left a tattoo shop feeling more taken care of in my life. The shop is incredibly sanitary and the atmosphere is incredibly comforting. If you don't go to Hula girl for your next tattoo, you're making a bad decision like drinking warm milk on a hot summer day.

On my last day in Maui I decided to stop into Hula Girl to get a Shaka tattoo. Justin was willing to take me as a walk in.The shop is very clean and well lit. Although some shops may not be a place for kids, mine came with me to the consultation. All the staff was friendly and helpful and fine with my boys being there. Justin did a very good and professional job. He checked the lines on some of my older tattoos to be sure they matched with the new ones he was adding. Justin made a few suggestions to get the tattoo to fit stylistically with my existing pieces and placed it where it made the most sense. I would love to come back on our next trip to Pa’ia.

Super sanitary. Anthony shows you the unopened packages of needles and tubes along with their expiration dates. He also inspects the quality of each needle with a magnifying glass Before using them. He will give you detailed instructions for the aftercare of your tattoo as well. The shop has that OHANA atmosphere. My tattoo came out AMAZING and I will definitely be coming back next time I am in Maui.
