Was looking to get some ink done while visiting. Went to a few different places to find they were either closed or didn't have appointment availabilities for the time I was going to be there. Figured no biggie, would just wait to get back mainland to get it done. Went to have some Udon and they exit out the back of the place. Saw Hale Nui, right as I walked out so figured I'd give it a last shot.Little Chris was cool, he talked to me for a few minutes then said he didn't have time that night but if I wanted to come back the next morning he could hook me up. I arrived at the time we agreed on and he was already there just setting up the shop. Took his time and chatted with me while he worked. Great place to get some last minute 'island' ink done. Would recommend to anyone in Honolulu, looking to get some ink. :)

We stumbled across Hale Nui Tattoo Company and my daughter and I both wanted a symbolic tattoo that had special meaning for us. It was a semi-colon to be inked on our wrists. We were there on holiday for my daughter's 21st Birthday. So for us it was not only special, but a momentous occasion as it was my daughter's first tattoo. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in and Momi did a spectacular job. Mahalo and we will be back for more on our next trip.

Mike and Joe are great. Told them what we wanted. Also our concerns. Mike drew the tattoo designs for us adding what we wanted. They made us feel very comfortable. LoL as comfy as one can be with art on the top of your foot. The place was sparkling clean. Yes I'd recommend them to others. If you want something only you have. GO HERE

This is a tale of two shops. Last day on the island and wanted to get some new ink. First went to Skin Deep, as a walk-in, and told them that I was interested in a polynesian design that covered my shoulder and most of my upper arm. The sweet woman at the counter was very helpful and showed me a few designs from different portfolios. Unfortunately they were busy with appointments and it would be a few hours before they could see me. Skin Deep called Hale Nui and asked if they had anyone available. Upon confirmation Skin Deep actually called an Uber for me so I wouldnt have to walk in the stifling heat and humidity. That's exceptional customer service by any definition! I arrived at Hale Nui and met Anna Paige and Kyle Yanagimoto. They welcomed me into their shop and made me feel like I had been a longtime customer. Kyle showed me a few designs based on my interests and worked through the sizing of the tattoo to make it fit my arm. Anna had the idea to reverse the image to make it follow the contours of my deltoids and triceps. I was all on board at this point. The work itself took a few hours but the atmosphere was welcoming and lively the entire time. Kyle was funny and talkative but very professional throughout. The end result was a beautiful piece of work by Kyle. The dude is just straight up talented! I've already told him that I want future work done by him upon my return to the island in about a month. Bottom line: Thank you to both Skin Deep and to Hale Nui. Fantastic experience in both places. If you're looking for great customer service then these two facilities will fit your needs...and produce exceptional art!

I recommend this place 100%!! Kujo and Neil were awesome: super professional, and friendly. Their work is phenomenal and they put a lot of care and attention into each tattoo. My girlfriend and I had two custom designs and they got them drawn up quickly and tailored them nicely to our bodies. My girlfriend has been tattooed by Kujo twice and will definitely get tattooed by him again. This was my first time with Neil and will definitely catch him again if he ever comes to Texas (or I ever come back to Oahu). Great people. Great work. Can't beat that! Mahalo, guys!!

Paid $200 for a tattoo for the wife. They messed it up completely and blamed her for it. The staff is unprofessional and has an attitude. They tried to fix the tattoo and messed it up even more. Do not go to this place.

Friendly staff and while I know their policy is a $100 minimum, I was literally in the chair 5min for our little tattoo. Mine turned out great however, which I was happy about. Unfortunately my wife's was a little fuzzy on part of the black line, which was disappointing (making it worse was the tattoo was so small, so pretty noticeable. Tattoo seemed to have blown out which I felt shouldn't have happened). Just felt it wasn't worth what we paid ultimately for a little tattoo but they seem to do beautiful work with large tattoos.

Hale Nui Tattoo was one of the first shops I ran across during a month long stay in Waikiki, Oahu Hawaii in February 2016. I met the owner, as she was remodeling , as well as some of the artists helping out & I was introduced also to Hale Nui's sister shop , Skin Deep Tattoos. They are a family of talented artists with award winning work. It had been close to 15 years since my last artwork (tattoo) & I trusted the staff after seeing not only some of their portfolios but the kindness of those working in both shops. Both shops are located in prime real estate areas of the island and the quality of the artwork is phenomenal with experienced artists available. I believe you get what you pay for and if you want quality artwork, Hale Nui is the place to go.If they can't fit you in, then they will do their best to get you an appointment at Skin Deep Tattoo. Take away the perfect souvenir of your trip to the islands! Aloha!!

I've been to visit Little Chris at Hale Nui 2 times and have been extremely pleased with my tattoos and experiences there. The shop is pretty small but the guys there seem to be extremely knowledgeable. Friends of mine have been tattooed by other artists there (believe they were Mike and Vince) and all of their tattoos are awesome. I'd recommend Hale Nui to anyone who asked me. Thanks again for the awesome work guys!

Walked in, 2 people setting in the back on their phones, lady at front desk was filling bins with swabs and chatting. I said I had a tattoo which I would like addition/cover up and what is the shop costs or how much. She didn’t even as much as look up at me and said it needed to be about twice or three times as big and coverups start at 250 and went back talking to the people in the back and doing her thing. I stood there waiting for a “hey yes, let’s take a look, or what time can you come back and we’ll take a look, what do you have in mind? Left and went to skin deep tattoo and got what I wanted.

A great shop with a fun and friendly environment! Everything is very clean and the atmosphere is truly inviting. I've had work done there and plan on having more work done when I return to Hawaii. My tattoo came out so flawless people don't realize it's tattoo. You can't get much better than that! I would highly recommend this shop to anyone visiting Waikiki. The Aloha and creativity found in this shop is bar none!

I've been getting tattooed by Kevin for almost 8 years. He's done one 3/4 sleeve and most of my other. His work, ideas and company has been the reason why I continue to seek him out. I left for the mainland in 2010 and lost contact until I found him here at Hale Nui early this year. It was well worth the wait and work to find him to get another amazing piece. He once again took my vision and made it so much better, not to mention the great shading, coloring and line work. I'll be back to get more as soon as I can.

I had a small turtle tattoo'd on my foot on my very first visit to Oahu. That was my first tattoo and I had it done at a shop that was VERY tourist friendly and once I had more tattoos I figured out that it was a pretty mediocre shop (Not Hale Nui!!) I now own a home in Oahu and was looking to have my turtle added to/covered up on a recent visit to the island. I went into every tattoo shop that I could find in the Waikiki area and asked about cover up tattoos, timing and appointments (it was important to me to have it done just a few days before leaving the island so that I didn't get too much sand and sun on it!!) Hale Nui is small... but it is bright (not dark like some of the other shops I visited) and it is clean, and the staff are all COMPLETELY covered in their artwork and SUPER friendly and helpful!!! Little Chris asked me a few questions about what I was looking for, time frame, and then asked if he could take some pictures of my current turtle tattoo and then text me with some ideas he had. I LOVED the personal touch and we texted back and forth a few ideas and things that I liked that I found on the web. Little Chris drew me a unique and beautiful sea turtle with tribal tattoos on it!! On the night that we had agreed upon Little Chris did an amazing job with his artistry and work on my foot. I love my turtle tattoo sooo much more now that it has the color and style that Little Chris was able to do just for me. If you are looking for a picture off a poster board or something simple, they can definitely do it. If you are looking for something hard core, beautiful, unique and artistic this is the ONLY tattoo shop to go to!!!
