From my experiences with the owner and one of the main artists at American Art Tattoo, I believe this is the absolute best and most reasonable shop in the New Castle area! Dave (owner) and Cloud (the artist that designed and completed my tattoo) are some of the most personable, friendly, considerate, professional, experienced, reliable, and reasonable people I have ever come in contact with in the Tattoo/ Body Art industry. They are quite flexible with appointment dates, and often (during the work week) are available for extremely high quality walk in "appointments". The pricing was beyond reasonable, and they were very helpful and charismatic in discussing the vision I had in mind, and they were eager and willing to do everything they could to make this vision come to life for me. I genuinely believe I could not have imagined a more impressive and dedicated duo of artists and professionals to create and execute the vision that I desired before I even stepped foot in the shop. Dave is an extremely personable, good-humored, experienced, knowledgable, professional and reasonable owner. Although he did not draw or ink my tattoo himself, he was always there to share advise, discussion, and his overall plethora of experience throughout the whole process. He runs his shop very efficiently, and he keeps it extremely clean and orderly (in addition to some very cool and inviting decor)! He was very fair with pricing and scheduling appointment dates, as I got my tattoo over about a period of a month (including brainstorming, designing, adjusting, tattooing, and touch-ups). I would recommend that anyone in the area seeking professional and personal advise and/ or expertise to consult with Dave first and foremost. The multi-talented artist who designed, adjusted, and inked my tattoo was Cloud. As her name may suggest, she was extremely light-hearted, uniquely creative, passion-driven, friendly, and always there when I desired her the most. Aside from the physical art work she designed and created, she was extremely flexible and easy to work with; always answering my calls at practically a moments notice, and always willing to offer me appointments and times that were ideal for my busy schedule. In terms of her literal artwork, she understood and supplemented the exact vision that I described to her from day one. Her sketches absolutely blew me away, and she was always eager and willing to adjust them to fit the exact specifications of how I wanted the drawing to look on my body. The tattoo itself took about 4 hours, and went smoother than I could have imagined; she never needed a break if I did not. The final product of her hard work exceeded any and all feasible expectations I had for the fruition of the vision I had years before I walked into American Art Tattoo. When I first explained for her the vision I had for a 6 inch pine tree on my left calf, her exact words were "Yes! I absolutely love realism, it is surely one of my favorite types of tattoo designs!", my excitement nearly surpassed the true connection that we made as we saw eye to eye on my vision. Needless to say I could not have been, and still could not be happier and more entirely satisfied with the artwork she created and completed for me, and due to the price and intricacy she even offered to give me free touch ups . Cloud overall is a contagiously sweet, charismatic, determined, hard working, motivated, kind-spirited, and truly talented artist. I would recommend Cloud, and American Art Tattoo to every and anyone I know that is looking to get a tattoo in Delaware, or even the tri-state area; for my experiences with this artist, owner, and tattoo parlor could not have been more positive. They also have FANTASTIC taste in music, which is always playing in the shop. !DAVE FOR PRESIDENT!

I got my nose pierced here a few weeks ago on a whim and I truly regret deciding to choose this shop. I returned to my piercing shop at home (I go to UD but I am from Massachusetts and was visiting for the weekend) in order for them to take a look at it because it had been bothering me. There was a lot of swelling on the inner part of my nostril around the piercing, and it was really itchy. I had been cleaning it exactly how I was instructed. The piercer at my shop told me, and I quote, "Whoever pierced you had no idea what he was doing". I was truly disappointed, because I had heard so many good things about American Art and didn't have a bad experience in the shop. According to my piercer, the piercing was way too far back and was not done in a clean environment. He also added that he does not know any truly accredited piercers in the state of Delaware, and recommended that I do not return. Dave was a really great guy but if you really want to get a good piercing that will last, go elsewhere.

After three months my latest tattoo is complete due to the talented and magical artistry of Dmytry at American Art Tattoo. He’s a visionary. I gave Dmytry a few pictures as guides but the sketches he created were mostly because he asked a lot of questions during our consultation. After a few tweaks we arrived at a final sketch. Dmytry is a true artist with immense talent. His line work is impeccable as is his free hand abilities. Dmytry has great attention to detail and immense pride in his artistry. Where to start? We all know tattoos can have a deep profound meaning for the recipient, and finding an artist who just plain gets it is probably not an easy thing to come by. Not unless you go the AAT and ask for Dmytry! This dude is intuitive, patient, empathetic, and flat out awesome. We got to share an experience that on its own would have been great, but to add a masterpiece of a tattoo that helped not just myself, but other near and dear family members understand just what is most important in life was way more then I could ask for. I called Dave after being told I could come into a shop and get it done but then was denied. It was around 6pm on a Monday and wanted a place to just go in and get a tattoo. I felt so unwelcome, this guy is a scratch artist, he couldn't even give me the tattoo I wanted. He said he couldn't "blend colors" and could only do my tattoo in black and white, which defeated the whole purpose of the piece.

Extremely overpriced, linework was shoddy, and the lack of creativity for something new instead of something premade instead of a catalog was ridiculous. Currently booked at another place to get half of this "american art" covered up and fixed. Also the studio is upstairs in the dudes house. No A/C. Its so small it's like you're getting a tattoo in a friend's kitchen in a trailer. The worst part is the smell of car urine constantly punching you in the nose. Don't make my mistake and get a tattoo here because they can book you that day.

I found this shop online. The reason I chose this shop was because of Dave's website. I read his profile and loved the fact that it promoted sterilization. I love a great tattoo like everyone else and the work on his website told me he could do the job, so I was looking for cleanliness first... My friend and I were walk-ins. We got there about two hours before closing. They were a little busy but he/ Cloudia were able to squeeze my friends tattoo in that night and Cloudia rearranged her schedule to come in on a Sunday since I was leaving town (love her for that). She sketched it out overnight, gave me three different designs the next day.. They were all great.. I wanted all three (lol) that would have been over kill. Cloudia has great skill..She has a great personality and did I mention they were clean. Cloudia did a great job on my tattoo and she will be doing my next one. Dave was great as well. He didn't do my tattoo but I saw his work. Can't wait to go back. Thanks again guys.

Dave did my first tattoo back in 2006. I was extremely impressed - every other tattoo shop I looked at had either artists that were way too full of themselves (seriously, if you don't at least take the time to listen to me and what I want I'm going to walk out), or were dirty. Dave was kind enough to help me out with picking what I wanted and customizing it for my tastes, and his shop was the cleanest around. He took the time to guide me through the process - I was 21 at the time and didn't know what the hell I was doing. Fast forward 11 years, and I still love my tattoo. I've never once regretted it. The lines are still sharp, and even though the color has faded a bit (my fault for getting a few rather nasty sunburns), it still looks great. I never really said thank you to American Art and Dave back then, but I'll say it now - thank you for a wonderful tattoo.

I have been doing some research in order to get my first tattoo. When I read all of the good reviews about Dave and American Art Tattoo, I knew I had the right place. I had a drawing of what I wanted to have done. One place wanted a $40.00 deposit and I would have to drop it off and they would call me back after they drew it up. I walked in to American Art Tattoo and Dave saw me right away. Took my drawing, blew it up and said he could do it right then and there and it would take about 20 mins. I will definately recommend American Art Tattoo to anyone looking for one. Very clean, very professional and I'm very happy with my tattoo. :)

Contacted Dave about my design via email, got a fast response and fast appointment to consult the design. Dave took my ideas and a design I purchased off the net and really ran with it, he made something I could never imagine. The day of the appointment, I arrived and Dave was ready, he spent three hours getting my piece done. The work is great, Dave's attitude and conversation while he inked me was awesome. The shop is clean with an autoclave on site, either new/disposable or autoclaved items were used. The piece Dave did is a memorial tattoo and he nailed it out of the park. I will be back to see him for my next piece. Price was very reasonable. Go see Dave and his staff, you won't be sorry

I absolutely love Dave. Having previously had two tattoos done in Kent County, it was reassuring to see how close he is in relation to the University of Delaware (and came highly recommended). I got my bottom navel pierced there as well as four tattoos all in Fall 2013. I was tatted by a guest artist from Jersey who was MIA after working with me, but Dave did my last two tats, and did a free shading to account for the flighty artist. I highly recommend him. I plan to get my next set of tats done soon by him.
