I recently lost a lot of weight, and needed to have many of both my casual and professional clothing altered. A quick google search showed this business was the closest to me, and had mainly positive reviews.
I brought in 4 pairs of jeans. Sue seemed nice enough, but a bit on edge because it was her busy season. (August, 2018) Sue advised she could have them done in a month, as she’s currently behind. I agreed.
Two months later, casual dress at work ended and I hard to get some dress pants altered. I brought five pairs in. I also inquired about the status of my jeans. She said she’s still behind, and it would be another month. I said fine, and she took measurements for my dress pants.
I was able to pick up my dress pants a week later (thankfully) and she again said the jeans will be done in a month.
It’s now March 2019, and I just picked up my jeans. 7 months later. When I went in, she was very apologetic - until I asked for a discount due to extremely long time it took.
Sue became combative, emotional, and spoke over me the entire time. (And I asked very politely, with respect) She couldn’t understand why I’d ask for a discount - she was offended. Then she went on to put the blame on ME, because I didn’t call her to check up on her/see if they’re done.
That’s not how this works. I’m paying for a service - I’ve been in your store several times. I expect the work to be completed in a reasonable timeframe (or agreed upon timeframe) and I shouldn’t have to call a business to remind them I need the work done. If anything, the business should be calling ME if they are running behind - not the other way around.
Ultimately, Sue refused to give me a discount because jeans are a lot of work to alter. (I would have been happy with even $10 off) She told me to either pay full price or leave empty handed. I paid the full price and advised I won’t be returning with my other items I needed altered. She said “good - I don’t need any more business”
The length of time to completion, her response, and lack of understanding/customer service is the reason for the one star review. The quality of work is great. However, now more than ever, customer service is critical for any type of business, and can’t be judged on the product alone.
To add insult to injury, when I got home with the jeans, since I’m still losing weight, and it took 7 months to get them back, the jeans are once again too big and don’t fit. I should have just let her keep them. Money and time wasted. Very disappointed.
