I have been in the Navy for 8 years and have been dealing with cleaners/alterations places all around the United States and beyond and this is the first time that I have actually been upset enough to leave a negative review. I am new to this area so I looked on google for alteration shops around the base. I originally called this establishment to ask how much it would cost to have one patch sewn on a military uniform. The women who answered acted as if she had no clue what I was talking about. So I asked her if she had experience with military uniforms. She said yes. So I asked her for the price again, and was told that I had to come in for pricing because it depended on the size of the patch. I was really surprised because normally in areas where there is a large military presence cleaners/alterations shops have one flat rate which is between 3-5 dollars per patch. I immediately didn’t want to do business with her because it sounded a little sketchy that she didn’t want to just tell me the price. Since I was unable to go drop off my uniforms myself, my coworker went and dropped off all of our uniforms despite my apprehensions. She was told to pick them up before closing which was 6pm. I drove there around 330 pm and they were not done yet. I was not upset because it had really only been about an hour and a half. Despite me being calm, she seemed flustered and annoyed that I would even think that they would be done. Since I was there I figured I would ask her why she didn’t just tell me over the phone that all patches cost 10$ to sew on (since my coworker also had different patches sewn on and they all cost me 10$) and that 10$ was definitely the highest I’ve even seen prices go for that work off base. This is when things got ugly. She started raising her voice several decibels saying that this is Newport and her prices are fair. She proceeded to tell me that she had rent to pay and that if I didn’t like it I could go somewhere else. Mind you I already paid my coworker for the work to be done, I was simply telling her that her price was the highest I’ve ever seen. This apparently greatly offended her because she refused to do the work. Which was fine with me, so I asked her for a refund. She said she couldn’t give me one because she didn’t have cash!? So I told her she had two options, either sewn on my one patch or give me my money back. Needless to say, she ended up writing me a check when I threatened to call the police. All in all, this was a terrible experience that I will never go through again. There is another local cleaners/alterations spot called Vikings cleaners that is not far from this location that sews patches on for 4.50 cents. They are really nice and professional.
