I paid $63 for simple alteration of a dress and they totally botched it. The dress is a "throw away" now. So disappointed!!!

In reading reviews on both google and yelp, I was really excited to use Alterations by Pauline for my wedding dress. I called and scheduled an appointment with her easily. When I arrived there, I noted that the floor was quite dirty. While this sounds nitpicky, it is a concern when you have a floor length white gown. She then asked me to change into my dress in the fitting room. She did not offer to help me get into the gown. The gown is a-line and quite heavy! As I exited the dressing room, there was an exposed nail in the door frame that nearly caught the lace of my dress. She then began measuring me and pinning the dress. She seems to be a very knowledgeable seamstress. However, she paused three times during my thirty minute appointment to attend to other walk-ins. One gentleman brought in two sport coats and she took the time to fit him while I was just standing there. I felt like she was not respectful of my time. Today, I was scheduled for a second fitting at 4:30 PM. When I arrived, the receptionist told me Pauline had gone home for the day "to rest", as she had been up late the night before working on a wedding dress. I asked the receptionist to review the appointment book to ensure that I had the right day and time, and she said she did not have access to it. The receptionist did not offer to call Pauline at home, nor did she offer to reschedule the appointment for me. I believe that she does quality work based on her client volume. However, her customer service is sorely lacking. As a bride, you have so many details to coordinate that the last thing you need is a flaky seamstress! I will try and addend this review once I have my finished dress to inform you of the quality of her work. August 15, 2014 This is an update of my initial review. I ended up meeting with Pauline the following day. She profusely apologized for being a no show the day before. She explained that she took on a lot more business than last year and was unprepared. She tried to hire a seamstress to help but didn't feel that the seamstress' work was up to par, so she was doing all the work on her own. She explained that next year she will be much more organized for the amount of business. I have been for several more fittings since that encounter. Each time, I have brought along my soon-to-be mother-in-law. My MIL has sewing experience and was able to point out to Pauline small issues or changes that needed to be made. I'm not sure that if my MIL hadn't have been there, that Pauline would have paid such close attention to detail. In the end, the dress looks lovely. I think the price was fair (but not a bargain as other reviews have suggested). Given the customer service issues, if I had to do it again, I would probably take it elsewhere.

I’ve gone here for a few years now and have had everything from pants, dresses and blazers hemmed and taken in. The staff is very friendly and they do an excellent job and call or text when the order is finished. Great service.

They pushed me out twice for when I could pick up my clothes with less than a day heads up. Very unprofessional and didn’t deal honesty with me. They do good work just expect the work to be done on time. It’s a shame because they’re super nice but terrible at scheduling.

I take everything to Pauline. She always does an excellent job, returning my clothes better than they were before. Not only do my garments fit perfectly after she alters them, but she also does a beautiful job changing the style of the garment as I choose. A bridesmaid dress I wore in two weddings looked like two different dresses, exactly what I wanted! And you can't beat the prices. I highly recommend Pauline!

Pauline is amazing! I ordered a dress online for a party in was going to. When the dress arrived it was WAY too long. The dress arrived on a Friday afternoon and the party was Sunday evening. In a panic I called Pauline. She was so nice and understanding of my situation. I dropped off the dress at about 3pm Friday and she had it altered, steam pressed, and ready for me to pick up Saturday at noon. There was no extra charge for the rush request and she did an amazing job. Her pricing is so reasonable on everything. I recommend Pauline to all my family and friends now. You will not be disappointed.

Took a pair of pants in I needed altered for a wedding. Went twice to pick them up at 10am (when they say they open). No one was there. Waited 30 minutes both times, still no one there. Won't answer their phone all day. Effectively stole my pants. I'm in the wedding. Basically the worst service one could imagine.

The prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. They give you a date for pickup and when you show up on that day or even later, the garments are not done yet. They want you to wait while they rush through them or have to come back again later. Sometimes even the second day they weren't done yet. As the last straw, I picked up some garments (3 days AFTER the scheduled pickup date) and I realized when I got home that they hadn't even been altered yet! So I had to go back AGAIN and was told that the owner was out of town and they wouldn't be ready for another month. I demanded a refund and left. I won't ever be using this place again. I would rather pay more and actually get service. Don't give me a date for pickup if you can't get it done by then. Big pet peeve...

Her work was really good, and she waited 40 minutes after her business hours closing time, because I called her on my way to pick up my suits, but I was lost in the area. (I live in Corvallis, OR, an hour drive away from her shop in Milwaulie, OR). Exceptional service.

I had my wedding dress altered by Pauline within a week before our wedding date. Pauline did an amazing job - the dress looked absolutely beautiful and I was complimented on it all night. Because of the time crunch, I was worried about it being done on time, but Pauline reassured me that it would not take her very long.
