After reading the prior review and the positive experience that they had, I decided to go to Joseph Scafidi Custom Tailoring to alter a pea coat that I have. The sleeves are a bit long and I wanted them to fit properly. The prior review also mentioned that they did the work in 20 minutes while the person waited. Since I had worn the coat to work, I thought that this would be a good option. Now for the actual review: I walked into the store and immediately greeted by the eyes of 3 Italian men in their 60's and 70's staring me up and down and examining my clothing (I was dressed in business casual as I work in an office). There was an immediate feeling of judgment as they all crowded around me at the door and asked how they could help me in a dialect of an Italian accent that sounded like Geppetto's accent in Pinnochio. I told the gentlemen that I would like to alter the coat that I was wearing. I asked if it could be done while I waited. At that moment, it was like a caused a mutiny. They began flailing around and all continuously said No for like 10 seconds and then explained that it would take about 3 days (in a fairly animated way). I replied that it was cold outside and wore the coat to work so I'd bring it in another time. It was at this time that the leader of the tailor gang took it upon himself to explain in detail all of the intricate cogs that go into wearing a different coat so that I can drop one off and still wear one home. It was much appreciated as I have the intellect of a pigeon. Meanwhile the tailor begins to fold the sleeve up that would need to be cut and discovers a rip in the lining. It is the only rip in the lining by the way. Furthermore, it would be cut off when he alters the jacket. He looks disgusted by the rip and says, "I won't work with this" to his little stable of tailors. He looks at me and says it's too old. I replied, "You won't work with the jacket?" He replies that it isn't worth it and that I shouldn't do it. Keep in mind, this is a $400 jacket from J.Crew. I'm not saying that it's the nicest in the world, but it certainly isn't garbage. In other news, this a tailor. It is literally his job to repair damaged clothing. I tell the man that I choose to repair it. And asked, what is the charge? He looks at his cronies, and I could tell he was trying to get rid of me. He then looks at me deadpan, and replies $45 and then reiterates that it's worn out. It's old and that I shouldn't do it. In conclusion, these three walt Disney style stereotypes of what a trio of Italian tailors should look and sound like are a bag of penises and I'm writing this review in hopes that someone else doesn't have to deal with the same experience that I did from these elitists.
