First want to say I do not understand how anyone could give a bad review due to service. I have purchased several suits from Black Lapel and each time both the service and fit have gotten better and at this point, it's perfect. One has to understand the nature of getting a MTM suit. Body changes, people gain/lose weight but each of my suits, everyone that I have worked with (particularly Christine and Frank) made 100% sure I had the perfect fit I was looking for. Christine reviewed every crease to ensure the fit was spot on. Frank went as far as to remeasure me and took my original suits back for alterations to ensure all my suits fit perfectly, and now they all do. I highly recommend Black Lapel. If you take the time to understand the process, they will not only work with you but they will make sure your suit fits the way it's intended to and for me that's perfect.

This was an amazing experience. I was looking to buy a new suit, a tuxedo and shirts to go with both for my upcoming wedding. I explained why I needed everything to Gloria J. (who was took my measurements in NYC) and she really took the time to explain the entire process to me. After the first round of measurements and customizations, I received my suit at the NYC showroom and Gloria took the time to review the each clothing item with me all while answering questions from one of my groomsmen. She was kind and patient when we decided to send the jackets back for very minor alterations (we took up the sleeves a very small amount and took the jackets in a very small amount so I’d look perfect in pictures). Less than 2 weeks later I went back for a second fitting and it was all perfect. I (and more importantly my fiancé) could not be more happy with the way the suit and tuxedo fit, the quality of the material, and Gloria’s help throughout the process. Thank you!

The guys are great, super kind and helpful. More importantly, the suit they made for me is absolutely great. Fits perfectly everywhere, very classic yet modern look, comfortable, quality fabrics, and nice detailing. Super glad I made my suit at Black Lapel! The only small detail I had a slight "issue" with were the buttons. The first button is kind of untied and "ugly". I can't tell if it's a cheap button or it's just a faulty one, but I noticed and I wish I hadn't. Still a 5-star place to get your custom suit! If I wasn't already in Argentina I'd ask the guys to replace that small button and they would definitely help me out there. Keep it up!

After going through some of the reviews of this place, the typical experience seems to go like this. You get measured in the showroom. Several weeks later, you get your suit back and the sizing is way off. They then adjust it through altering or in some cases remaking it. In my case, they did alterations. In retrospect, I should have been more assertive and asked for a remake. Instead, I had trusted their suggestion that the alteration would be enough. The final product isn't terrible, but it's not a good example of MTM. In fact, I had to get more adjustments made by my own tailor. After spending $460+, several months of time, and back and fourth emails, I have a suit jacket that fits like an oversized glove. I can shell out more money for further alterations, but there's no fixing low arm holes.

This isn't the first time I've had a suit custom-made, but this is the first time that I'm buying one online. To my pleasant surprise, I'm loving my BL suit more than any other I've had. The suit material is definitely top-notch. Except for the stomach area where it could use a half inch to a full inch of reduction, the rest of the fit is impeccable. Quality, style, and fit: 9/10. Aside from those factors mentioned, customer service quality is equally important to me when deciding where to buy, especially since the transaction is online. Sometimes, it's difficult to convey ideas with just words, and thankfully, Hannah, from concierge, has been very patient with my every query and request. She made the whole process a very pleasant experience for me. What impresses me most is BlackLapel's attention to detail. I'm a bit of an OC and it was paradise that I was given complete control of the outcome of the suit. Again, it wasn't perfect, but the tiny imperfection with regards to fit is hardly noticeable. I'm very happy with my purchase and it is certainly worth every penny. I would be proud to recommend BL to anybody looking to upgrade his sartorial essentials. I will definitely get another one. I was a bit apprehensive about buy a suit online but after seeing the reviews, the abundant choices and reasonable prices for a custom suit, I decided to give it a try. After submitting my measurements, Black Lapel contacted me to remeasure a few areas that they questioned. This made me nervous but I remeasured myself and submitted the revised measurements. Obviously somebody was on the ball at BL. I was still a bit dubious about buying a suit online. The suit was for my daughters wedding so it was kinda important. When the suit arrived, I was afraid to try it on. Haha But after two days had passed, I opened the box and tried it on. I was absolutely amazed at how well the suit fit. Besides a minor adjustment to the jacket, it was perfect! And with BL’s credit for tailor service, the tailoring charges were covered! I have to say that once I initially ordered the suit, BL’s customer service was outstanding! Always replied in a timely fashion and guided me through the process. I’ve bought many high quality suits in the past and I would rank BL’s quality right up there with the best. I would recommend Black Lapel to anyone looking for a high quality custom suit at a reasonable price.

I ordered a suit online and got it within 3 weeks, possibly due to inaccurate measurements on my side the shoulders of the jacket did not have a great fit and also the pants were not as I had envisioned. I contacted the concierge and got a quick response and good assistance, they remade the jacket as the problem was with the shoulder part and could not be altered and they reimbursed the alterations I needed for the pants. All changes were updated in their system so when I make up my mind for which fabric to go for I'll definitely be a returning customer and know that the fit will be perfect.

Had a really great experience at the Black Lapel store in NYC and with the online customer service. I have several suits from Indochino and wanted a step up and had researched several companies and decided to take a chance with BL. I needed a suit/tux for my wedding and saw that they have premium materials like VBC. Marcus helped me and selected a limited production suit. Marcus is the MAN. He had wonderful suggestions and measured me PERFECTLY. When I came back in a few weeks, the suit fit SPOT ON. This was something I never pictured from a MTM store like this. No alterations needed at all. He has a great knowledge of suits, fitting, and overall great customer service. I also requested through the online service to have this suit specially made to have full canvas and initially they said it could not be done because it was not part of their premium line but they were able to make an exception. Overall, I would definitely return and get future suits from here and would recommend everyone to have MARCUS!!!

A 41R does not exist. Going custom was the way to go. I was very pleased with how the suit came out. It fits like a glove. Kevin and his team helped out. I am definitely getting another one. Ordered a custom suit and shirt from Black Lapel. My fit profile was a bit outside the norm so they requested a couple remeasures and front/profile/back photos. Throughout the process they were very responsive (replies back in a few hours max). Items arrived on time and only had a couple minor fit problems. Took them to the tailor and had them adjusted and now they fit perfectly and Black Lapel picked up the alterations bill for me and updated my profile. After using their self measurement tutorials I received a near perfect suit. My only issue was the pants were about half an inch too long. I believe this was my fault more than anything else. Their perfect fit policy would have taken care of this issue for free but I was in a pinch for time and went to a local tailor instead. Even the tailor noted how well built the pants were when I took them in. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my experience and I will be ordering my next suit form Black Lapel.

I went here on a recommendation from my cousin. I needed a tux for a black tie wedding and these guys nailed it. You set up an hour appointment where you are paired with a specialist. They take all of your measurements and photos of your stance, which makes for the perfect fit. Afterwards your specialist takes you through the entire ordering process, which is all online on their page so you can order more later with your exact measurements already saved. There's a showroom with every option available (be it on pants, shirts, jackets, what have you) on at least I've article of clothing so you don't have to judge based purely on online pictures. It does take around 4-5 weeks minimum waiting for the suit to arrive but it's totally worth it. They even do the first alteration free if there's anything that needs to be adjusted.

Well, Black Lapel's professional concierge service handles all of those concerns and more. While I can't speak for other concierge reps, I was lucky enough to get helped out by Tanya, and she made my shopping experience with Black Lapel was absolutely perfect. From sending me swatches to making suggestions on self-measurements that looked off, Tanya was with me every step of the way. I ended up with a perfectly-fitting suit that received (almost as) many compliments on my wedding day. I definitely plan on shopping with BL again in the future, and those of you with reservations shouldn't worry (especially you get set up with Tanya).

So after doing some research I chose to have my wedding suit made through black lapel and went in for a consultation. All throughout the year I lost a lot of weight around 80lbs for the wedding and all my clothes were swimming on me. I wanted to look the best I could for that day and for my fiancee (now wife). Love this place! Have a few suits from them and will come back for sure to get more. Staff is very friendly and will bend over backwards to make sure what I get is perfect in terms of style and fit. Great pricing too! It's the same price as going to Macy or something and getting the same quality suit. Only difference is you don't need to spend that extra $50 on tailoring yourself because they give you 75$ credit for tailoring.

My experience was the same as many other reviewers. I purchased the Navy 3-piece. My first suit didn't come out anywhere close to correct. I think they assume that everyone gives themselves a skinny waist so they add an inch to whatever you put in the measurements. Tried tailoring but still wasn't able to get it where it needed to be. I was a bit unhappy because I was a month out from my wedding and afraid that I just bought an expensive suit that I wasn't going to be able to wear. These guys really redeemed themselves though because when I asked for a remake, they did it without any extra charge and put a rush order on it so that it would get here in time. The final product looks great and the fabric is very high quality. My tailor kept saying how nice the suit was. // Now that we're past that initial hurdle I would gladly use them again for future suits and blazers. Kudos to their customer support team.

I ordered a suit and shirt from Black Lapel and I was extremely pleased with the whole process. I looked into suits from both Black Lapel and Indochino, but found the customer service to be much more responsive at Black Lapel. Indochino took up to 4 days to respond to some of my questions, but Black Lapel typically responded within 2 hours. They even responded to a late night question on a Sunday night within 2 hours! I ended up cancelling my swatch order from Indochino after they quoted me 6 weeks for swatch manufacturing; a timeline that is ridiculous and completely out of line. Black Lapel provided me free swatches and helped me decide on an appropriate fabric within my budget. The fit of the suit was incredible and well exceeded my expectations. The only alteration is the hem in the front created too much break in the leg. The customer service was amazing; the response times, the wealth of knowledge, and the attitude were fantastic. I felt reassured throughout the process and I trusted them as a company. The suit fits better than the off the rack suits I own that cost two to three times as much. I've never had a dress shirt fit so well. I look forward to a long relationship to this suit and shirt. I would strongly recommend Black Lapel for any clothing needs.

This location has offered the best fitting experience I've ever experienced so far, and I've already tried Proper Cloth and Blank Label. Perhaps it's the combination of pricing and selection, but this location stood out to me at the conclusion of my appointment. My fit consultant was beyond polite and very friendly, getting me measured for shirts, jackets, and pants within half an hour. I left the store with a pair of shirts and three pants on the way. I don't expect them to fit perfectly the first time, since revisions for MTM clothing are usually expected. But I will consider Black Lapel first for my clothing needs in the future.

Perfectly fine experience, friendly staff as well, but the product is just "ok". After my initial fitting, 3 visits for tailoring (I was late, so I blew one of them), and a 4th visit just to pick the suit up, having yet another fit is no longer worth the time. Jacket and vest ultimately came out fine. The pants are a mess and have been from the start. 8 weeks total time spent, whereas competitors clock in at 2 weeks and less hassle. I don't plan on going back.

Like many, my first suit did not fit quite right. I thought I measured everything according to the videos, but my jacket was too broad in the shoulders. Black Lapel remade the jacket, made some adjustments, and turned out great. I am pleased with the quality and fit of the suit, and the customer service I was provided. I would only caution customers to buy the suit well ahead of when you need it, because if you need a remake it will double the time it takes to get your suit.

This group is nothing short of amazing. The communication from the customer service team is unquestionably the best I've ever dealt with. The product itself looks great and gives me the comfort and confidence of knowing I don't have to worry about my clothes not fitting, because they were made just for me. And at this price point, it's well worth the wait to have an item made that fits you perfectly for the same price that you'd pay for something off the rack. As with anything made-to-measure, the first item is likely going to need adjusting. My first shirt came in a little long in the sleeves, even though we had measured three times (with three different results). I took it to my tailor, he corrected it, I sent in the adjustments along with the receipt and BL covered it. They truly do want you to look and feel the best you can. I can't wait to place my next order.

I recently got a Tuxedo from Black Lapel. It has been frustrating. 1) The tuxedo's front button tore off my suit within 1 hour of wearing it, and was torn without any kind of major movement on my part. I had not even made it to the dance floor of the wedding I was at. I am now concerned about the quality of the entire garment as this was quite shocking. 2) When I picked up the Tuxedo, they forgot to put my tuxedo shirt among the garment, so I had to make a return trip to pick it up again. 3) The custom shirts aren't even custom, mine has shirt darts instead of tailored fabric. Stay away from this place. It looks nice but the quality is cheap.

I bought my tuxedo for my wedding from Black Lapel (as did some of my groomsmen) and I have to say we're all extremely happy with the decision. First, the tuxedo fits me better than any piece of clothing I've ever worn. Second, working with the Black Lapel staff was extremely easy from walking in for the first appointment/fitting all the way through order entry and finally walking away with the tux. Their customer service is very responsive to questions and helpful. I did quite a bit of research into how much a custom-fit tuxedo was going to cost and you won't find a better quality custom tuxedo at such a reasonable price anywhere else. They use Super 110's wool too. Thank you to the entire Black Lapel team!

I've purchased several suits and shirts for work from Black Lapel. The process is great and the quality, fit and price of the clothes is exceptional. I prefer a modern fit that is appropriate for the office at a large financial services firm. Chris understood my needs and helped me select the cuts and fits that Black Lapel offers. Even better than the quality of the fit is the style advice that comes with the service. The process is painless. Chris took many measurements on my first visit, which lasted about an hour and included a little brown liquid to help me manage through. Approximately 4 weeks later, I tried my new suit and shirt on. Chris fine tuned my measurements and identified the appropriate alterations. The alternations were finalized about two weeks later. I then ordered another suit, some additional suit pants and many shirts. Since my measurements are stored, I can order online as necessary. However, I will periodically make appointments to see Chris in person so that I can see/touch the clothes, especially the newer offerings, and get some style advice. Great service and company - the suits are cheaper than comparable, off the rack suits that do not fit as well.

I ordered 8 shirts and 1 3-piece suit from Black Lapel over the course of a year. Initially, I was very impressed by the entire operation - the people, the service the quality of product. However, unfortunately there was no consistency with the shirts - 3 of them didn't fit. When I raised this to Concierge, they asked me to send photos of me wearing the shirts, which I duly did. On review of the photos with their 'expert tailors', they acknowledged that they 'may not have fully accounted for your shoulder angle'. They said they would make the adjustments and pay extra attention to my measurements going forward. As for the 3 shirts which didn't fit me, Black Lapel suggested I go to a local tailor to have the collars adjusted and offered me 40% off my next short as a small token of appreciation. The onus and loss was on me. With a fail rate of 3 in 8 shirts and such a poor response from Customer Service, I have no intention of using them again. That said, they may have made improvements in their business since this occurred last year.

During 2015, I began researching on made-to-measure suit shops for my wedding and came to the conclusion that I would select Black Lapel for my MTM Suit, which I would use at my wedding. I contacted them in February and had discussions about scheduling an appointment to have a style consultation and measurements done for my profile. The stylist that I got paired with was Christopher. I couldn't have asked for a better stylist. Measurements were done a few times and he had another stylist verify how the shoulders should be measured. He also explained the difference between Slim, Tailored and Standard Fit. I was surprised with the recommendation to go Slim Fit as I am a 5'8 225lb male. Never thought I'd honestly wear Slim Fit. I chose the Blue Gray Birdseye Suit as a three piece with a white herringbone dress shirt. The details Chris had me custom on each made it feel like this would be a unique suit, just for me. I chose the Blue Gray Birdseye due to how universal it really could be. Not just for business, but formal and casual. Seeing the fabric in person made me really chose it but if you can't get to the showroom in NYC, I recommend asking for some fabric swatches. They recommend this because you never really know what the fabric will look like by just seeing it online. After choosing all the customization and completing my profile, I placed my order. My three piece suit arrived a little earlier than expected and when I received my shipping notification from Fed Ex, that it would be leaving China, I could not believe that it arrived within 24 hours. Not only that but they left me a personal note in the box with congratulations on the upcoming wedding. A few weeks later I arrived back to the shop with my suit to have a "first try on" consultation to really nail down the alterations before the wedding. I can personally tell you that I've never worn a suit that fit that well out of the box however Chris provided more input when I tried it on and really felt like some alterations should have been done. When my wedding came, my friends, family and wife's jaws dropped in amazement of how dapper and handsome this suit really made me. I'm not one to typically dress up but this sure makes me want to. Give Black Lapel a shot, they sure make good quality and hands down better customer service than any off the rack shop I've ever been to.

Took waaay to long BUT in the end was worth it. Suit had to be remade and altered more than once. No I didn't spend 1000 on a suit but they treated me as if I did. I will go back and do recommend them and after a long process the suit and service are OK. Edit: After wearing the pants that were altered twice for the first time..... Still not right. I'm tired of going back and forth so I think I try and dind a local tailor and suck up the cost. Edit: justin was overly concerned that I was not 100% satisfied that he made sure to personally contact me and get it right. They nailed it. I will be going back.

I chose Black Lapel for my first made-to-measure suit based on their suit options as well as their stellar online reviews. I was certainly not disappointed. It was a seamless experience - right from scheduling an appointment on their website to an impeccable measurement session (only the pants requiring minor tweaks) to the fitting session. Their staff are very friendly, down to earth and made me feel comfortable throughout the two sessions. (Kevin did the measurement session and Jennifer did the fitting; other staff members weighed in as well so it was extremely valuable from my standpoint) I will be picking up my suit in a few days and can't be more excited. From just the fitting session I could tell the fabric and stitch were of high quality. Will definitely be using Black Lapel for my suits going forward.

This review is for Molly L. Molly was professional and personable. This is the very first time I had a custom suit made for myself, she did a great job from beginning to end. After the first try which didn't come out the way it should've (the jacket mainly) Molly made sure it was done right the 2nd time around. She followed up with me and kept me in the loop. Her suggestion after the issue arose the first time regarding the jacket, was spot on and she made it work. Everyone else at Black Lapel was polite as well, it was a good experience and I would definitely do business with them again!

Unfortunately, I did not receive a good fit on my suit. First try was extremely tight all around so either the measurer or the tailor made a mistake. They remade the jacket which came out good on the second try, but the pants, they tried to alter. Second attempt was better but still not that comfortable. Unfortunately, there is not enough material to do much else with them now. The suit quality is good but the fitting process was very disappointing. Will look elsewhere for my next suit.
