I have shopped at Nora's for years. She has always been honest when something does not look right and suggested I not buy it. I have also worked with her for a day. It was busy and I have never seen her be impolite. She is a happy person and treats everyone with kindness. My alterations have all been great. Never had a problem.

I recently brought in some buisness suits to be altered, and Nora did an impeccable job. Since then, I've brought in some pants, a London Fog rain coat--all altered perfectly. I've had some bad tailors in my past who have ruined some of my professional wardrobe, but Nora always does a great job. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing alterations.

Needed 3pairs of denims hemmed and came across noras in Portsmouth so decided to contact her and she was very pleasant to speak with and her prices were reasonable and time to work on them very good two days one day if I was in a hurry, picked them up two days later and they were just as I requested never would know they were altered fit perfect length, give her a try.

Just had two $500 suit coats ruined by this troll. When I showed her the crooked sleeves and crooked buttons she agreed the quality was poor but somehow blamed me saying it was my fault for asking for same day service?!?! She then got very aggressive and argumentative front of other customers. After telling others everywhere about my experience, I learned of Nora's awful reputation of poor quality and rude service. There should be a class action suit against this business! Don't believe me? Look at other reviews on yelp, etc. Google "Nora's Boutique Elegance" to read about more horror stories like mine.

Nora the women who owns and runs this store is SUPER unprofessional.. and I would avoid this business at all costs! She had no idea what she was doing (even though she said she had done wedding gowns before) and was extremely careless with my wedding dress ( even right in front of me ripping it out of its bag and damaging the delicate lace in several places -pinning it carelessly, and stuffing it back into the bag like it was trash). She seemed intoxicated when I came to pick up my dress! She knew I was coming to pick it up expecting it to be done-(we had several phone conversations and my mom popped into her store several times to check on the status of the dress since she lives in Kittery) I was driving from Portland Maine where I live to pick it up-when I arrived at her store she was lounging around entertaining friends in a store with no customers and told me she hadn't gotten to it and that she was too busy (after my dress had been there over a month and was promised to be done several weeks prior -- we had spoke numerous times to confirm my pick up)! She explained she knew I was coming and should have called me but didn't..she did the same thing to the next man who came in after me- he too was extremely unimpressed and walked away with his unfinished jacket!!! She explained when I came to pick it up that if she had tried to do my wedding dress there would be missing patches of lace and she told me she was planning on adding a corset to it.. She NEVER told me she was going to do any of that to my gown until after I came to pick up a dress that was not even started!! It was clear that she was going to do all these changes to my dress without my consent- she initially told me when I dropped it off that she could take it out a size no problem without changing the look of the dress-- I dodged a bullet that she did not start it because she would have buchered my beautiful $1,300 gown!!! She is a total nightmare!! She then snapped at me that I should "JUST LOSE WEIGHT". I had previously explained to her my thyroid condition that made me gain some weight. I took my dress home and it had a terrible smell from her store and the lace was damaged and pulled... She wasted my time! I was super polite to her and did not deserve that at all. There are businesses that surround her store that I go to as well and when I commented on my experience at her store they all said that they have heard nothing good about her or her business and have also heard horror stories from people who have gone to her! I am not surprised!!

She did a great job with our first set of minor repairs and the price was reasonable. She was very nice to me. I am bringing more stuff and I will report back.

She she refused to shorten my knee length skirt because she wanted to make it look classy not trashy , it was a waste of my time and I was very offended considering I want to do shorts curtain and she refused to do so . Reason for not shortening my skirt was so that I could "" where it to work even though I have no reason to wear it to work and I wanted to wear on a daily basis, again she told me that she would not have my skirt because she didn't think it was a good idea so basically I went in there tried on my skirt and she said oh honey I don't think you should Hem it even know the skirt was down to my knees. Very disappointed and unhappy with her service

Recently I bought a dress from this store for a function & while I do love the dress, the woman "Nora", who owns the store was less than ok. Her dog runs around the store & is untrained, so I had to dodge poop that the dog was leaving, she was less than friendly or nice & quite honestly was VERY PUSHY to make a sale. She then convinced me to buy a shrug to go with the dress & not being a person who gets all decked out very often, I was unsure & she assured me I must buy this shrug to go with the dress & further added if I didn't like it, I could always return it. Which in the end, after showing it to my mom & sister who felt, like me that it was "too old looking" for the dress & made me look like a "Mother of the Bride" vs a young 20's which I am. So I tried to return it & get my $$ back. She refused saying that she "is not a dept store & is a boutique" & no refunds are given...only store credit. And yet, no policy to this cash only policy was posted! Will NEVER go there again! VERY SHADY BUSINESS TO AVOID!

If I could give this shop less than one star I would. I went with my friend to have alterations on her wedding dress and she left in tears. The owner is one the rudest people I have ever encountered and has no idea of customer service. She was bossy and did not listen to the needs of a paying customer and proceeded to yell at us when asked to do a small variation at the customer request. I would never recommend anyone to utilize her services.

I wish I could give less than a one star review to this business as it is deserving of none. I had a horrible experience where I left crying. The store has a funny smell to begin with but I went in needing a belt attached to my wedding dress and a bustle. My mother had explained that she wished she had chosen a different bustle than French for her dress so using her advice I asked Nora if there was another option other than French that we could discuss. She was adamant that I must do a French bustle and told me I was being ridiculous. When I asked if she could do maybe a few extra hooks to secure the bustle better she angrily answered me saying that she could do 15 hooks she doesn't care because it's my money. She began working on other things while I was standing there in my wedding dress expecting to be going over the work that would be done. She was so rude so I needed a moment to collect myself because at this point I was very upset. I walked back to the dressing room and she said of you're leaving I'll need my pins back. I took the dress off she heard the bag zip and said "you better have taken my pins out". I handed her pins back and she proceeded to attack my friend that I brought for support and opinions, saying that she needed to keep her mouth shut and that she's the problem. At that point I lost it on her and said that I had asked her to come and she had no right to talk that way to my friend. On the way out she told us we better not go bad mouthing her all over town. Turns out she's infamous for this behavior and the second woman we went to had several people go to her post the Nora experience & has heard quite the horror stories. All in all I'm glad this woman has nothing to do with my dress as it's such an important part of the day. I just don't understand how she is still in business!

I recently bought a dress from her and had her tailor it. The only thing she needed to do was put two deeper darts in the back of the dress to bring in the top of the dress. Either she is a "rookie" at her tailoring skills or drunk when she does it! Her darts dont even line up, at all!!! I will need to take the dress to a professional to have it fixed. Be warned!

DO NOT GO HERE! Like everyone else i had a terrible experience. I needed a shirt altered for a special event, i had to go in 3 seperate times for her to fix things, the shirt had stains, etc. When all was said and done the shirt she had made too small, and I couldn't wear it. She said it looked fine, but it clearly was not. While i was in there talking about my shirt another guy came in with a pair of pants that she had only sewed one leg, he indicated he was in a wedding that day/next day and needed immediatley. She doesn't care about quality and is super unprofessional.

I went to her for a huge alteration on my dress for a military ball. I showed up two weeks before my event. It needed a lot of work done. She did an amazing job! I was super happy with the way it came out! And she did it in a short amount of time, and it was cheap compared to most places. Definitely would recommend going to her to get anything tailored.
