Dropped items off to be fixed. Items paid for and was told would be ready on June 5th. Went to pick items up 3 times between June 5 & June 15... Items still not ready. I understand she is busy but if items can't be ready on the date given she should reach out to customer. You are only as good as your word. Very disappointed in service. If you are not in a hurry to get items back I would think she might be ok but not dependable. Paid for services, job not done and no money was refunded.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. This place has the absolute worst customer service! I brought in a dress for my wedding rehearsal a week ago and the lady told me she would have it done by today at 9:30am. I get there shortly after 9:30am and she couldn't find my dress. After 10 minutes of looking she finally finds it on the back of the rack UNTOUCHED. She said "sorry, give me 30 minutes." I didn't want her to rush so I came back around 1pm to it looking like this. I confronted her about the top being uneven and she said " oh, no... i'm sorry." She offered to fix it and bring it to my house tonight and I turned that offer down because her business has already been extremely unprofessional and I don't have time for her nonsense anymore(I need the dress tomorrow). I ended up getting a refund and took my business elsewhere. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone!

Worst experience EVER!!!! Took a $500 Prom dress in for her to hem up. ..and my daughter picked it up, came home put it on...and OMG the worst job I have ever seen. My 7 year old could do better. was not even at all, came up and down in spots, threads hanging down. Took it back in and she admitted, yes very very bad job. She promised to fix it, after seeing her work I was a bit worried, but at this time I already had so much money into it. Came in to pick it up from her "fixing" it. Still awful. She put many snags in the silk and left glue on it. Not to mention Stains from dirty hands. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE!!!!! My neighbor recommended her, so therefore I did not look at reviews. She should not lay her hands on anything worth value. Now my daughter has to wear this beautiful expensive dress to prom that this lady ruined! Thanks! !!!!!!

The quality of the work was great with a reasonable price, but it took me 3 tries to pick up my altered pants. I dropped them off and was told they'd be ready a week later. When I arrived, the owner apologized for not calling me (my number was on the work slip), but she had forgotten to write down the measurements. She said they would be ready in 30 minutes. I had a bunch of other errands to run in the area, so it was 2 hours later when I came back and she still wasn't done. She offered to drop them off at my house, but that wouldn't work since I needed to pay by credit card. So I gave her a week, and my pants were finally done on trip #3 (with no offer of a discount). I have other items that I need altering but I won't be going here.

Do NOT waste your time and energy here! This business is by far the worst place I have ever encountered in my whole life! Dealing with this lady was an absolute nightmare. I dropped off my wedding dress to have alterations done the end of May! My first initial fitting was supposed to be on July 6. I called her and rescheduled to July 10 since I was going to be out of town for work. I show up for my appointment and she tells me she is sorry and that the dress was not ready! In fact, she hadn't even started on it! I accept her apology and set up another appt for July 19. On July 16 I called to let her know that I would be out of town again and she kept asking for my name and didn't seem to know which dress was mine. She frustrated me so much on the phone that I told her I am coming up there cause she seemed confused. I hurry and go to her shop and she pulls out someone else's dress and says that she has had my dress ready for a while. I'm super upset at this point but remain calm and told her that is not my dress. I noticed my bag and showed her which one was my dress. We open up the bag and she says she has not had a chance to start on it but that it would be ready for a first fitting on Monday, July 20th at 6 pm. I then notice that the ticket on my dress was not even mine. It was someone else's name and phone number on my dress. I should have at this point taken my dress and ran, but no, I said ok and gave her the benefit of the doubt. I show up to the shop yesterday for my appt at 6 pm and realize that they are not even open Mondays and she doesn't even show up for appointment. I try calling 4 times and no answer. The next day which is today, she calls me and leaves me a voicemail and said she was calling me cause she missed my call yesterday. I called her back and told her not only did she miss my call, but she also missed my appt. she says OMG, I'm sorry, so sorry! I told her no, sorry is for the first mess up but this is 3 times now and I don't trust her and start crying and explaining to her that this is an expensive dress and very serious. She just apologizes and says she is working on my dress at this time (which should have been done the day before) I told her to Stop working on my dress immediately and that I was going to take my dress elsewhere. I left work right away to go and get my dress out of her hands! I show up there, pick up my dress and walked out! She didn't say anything to me while I was there other than point me to my dress. Later on, I took my dress to another lady. I told her that I hadn't looked at the dress and that she had told me she started working on it and that I was afraid to see what has been done. the new seamstress opens up the bag for my dress and says it hadn't been even worked on. She then looks at the bottom and realizes that she actually began hemming it and that she cut a part off the bottom of my dress. she said it shouldn't have been cut and she looked at me and said she can fix it since she left the part she cut in the bag! I am lucky to have gotten the dress out Vi's hands when I did, otherwise my dress would have been ruined. This is the first review I have ever written and hope that I can save other people the pain and stress I have gone through with this business. Please save your time and energy and take your dress anywhere but here!

Recently we took my daughter's prom dress into Vi's Spool Box to get straps added to the dress. We dropped the dress off on March 12, and did not get the "unfinished" finished product until a month and 7 visits later. We dropped off the dress with the material for the straps on the first visit. On the second visit, she had made the straps, but had not attached them to the dress. We asked her to take off the lace (basically just cutting the lace off the top of the other fabric) which took all of 5 seconds. The 3rd visit she had attached the straps in the back, but had only pinned the front to see where she needed to position them. On the 4th visit, she had forgotten to do the work (which was a whole week later), and asked us to come back the next day. On the 5th visit, she had done something to the straps that made them stick up, and had attached the straps in the front of the dress, but were still too loose. On the 6th visit, she had "re-done" the straps to original condition and attached the straps back, but were still loose and the top was sticking out. She asked us to wait 15 minutes for her to "finish" fixing it. We ended up having to leave before she was done for an appointment, but went back the next day for visit 7. We thought the dress was finally complete, but got it home and realized one strap was still too loose. When I went to safety pin it (because I decided that no matter what we would not go back), there was also a big hole in the waist. We ended up having to take the dress to a different alterations place and pay a rush fee to get it done. They had to almost re-do everything that was done at Vi's and then some because the dress was so horribly altered in the first place. We ended up spending more money on the alterations than we paid for the dress. When I returned to ask for my money back, she tried to make it seem like it was our fault for it taking so long to get the dress completed and it being VERY POOR QUALITY work. Please save yourself a lot of time and energy and DO NOT GO TO VI'S SPOOL BOX!

Trust me - go elsewhere. No need to read more reviews. There are good & bad but why would you even risk having a bad experience? DO NOT CHANCE IT. Poor communication (likely due to constant agreeing of whatever you say since english is a 2nd or 3rd language). Missed expectations. ZERO business management.

Horrible experience! I had a mother of the groom dress brought in 1 month before wedding, Vi was very nice, said no problem, gave me a ticket, told me to come back in a week for another fitting. It had to be taken in, she pinned it, I left. Came back in a week, I called on friday to remind her I'll be back in on Saturday, showed up on Saturday, AGAIN she forgot about it! She told come on Sunday, I promise I'll have it done. Sunday I came only to find store closed, no one answered front or rear door, looked up website to see she is closed Sunday and Monday. Called phone #, voice mail always full, never able to leave message at anytime. I had to take off work Tuesday morning, came into shop, again didn,t have done. Told her I will stay till it is finished! at this point I can't take it anywhere else, not enough time. Vi told me 1/2 hr, while waiting for dress other customers came in, there items not done, or wrong, or promised in a day or week, one lady tried on bridesmaid dress, Vi had forgot, and thrown away extra material she was to save for a flower girl dress. A man was told 1 day for a zipper repair, he came in a week later, still not done, he asked her when , she would'nt answer, he told her he would be back at 6:00pm, she told a friend that was in store, I don't get mad I get even! what kind of reputable business owner does this! I walked out of shop 2 1/2 hrs later and still had to re-steam the dress myself! she was doing this in shop while I waited, and never took anything off my charge for all this trouble! I would never advise anyone to use Vi's Spool Box!!!!!

I generally do not leave reviews unless I feel compelled to share my experiences, but going to Vi's was not pleasant. First, she was working with another client when I arrived. She walked away mid-service and started working with me- poor customer attention at the beginning. After explaining my request of a simple dress hemming job and just adding the extra fabric to the sleeves, she agreed to complete the work within 2.5 weeks. I returned exactly 2.5 weeks later, no work was done. She requested another day (Tuesday), I agreed. When I returned the next day still nothing was done, but now my dress cover was missing. When I asked where it was, she replied that it was at her house...but yet, my dress was at the location. No explanation afterwards. I told her I wanted my dress and my cover back, I would return next Tuesday to retrieve my items. She begged to get the work done for me by then, I said fine. When I returned on Tuesday, the hemming was completed, but only half of the agreed on amount was cut. Now the dress was still too long and there wasn't enough fabric for the sleeves. Plus, my cover was still missing as and my gown was folded over a hanger and the bottom was dirty. Then she proceeded to give me another dress cover - that was exactly the same as mine- BUT FROM ANOTHER CLIENT'S gown- to me, I had to decline. Very poor customer service, now I have to find another person to salvage my dress and the poor girl in which she tried to pawn off her cover to me. I will not go back nor refer her to anyone.

I dropped off and pre-paid for repairs to my leather handbag on 7/8/14. The owner promised a NEW leather strap and new leather ends to be sewn into the purse by 7/11/14. I waited until 7/12/14. She couldn't even find it! We had to search her unorganized, totally chaotic shop. She then tried to pass it off that she had replaced the strap and was putting the finishing touches on the ends. She DID NOT REPLACE ANYTHING! She was gluing and sewing the original strap ends. Also I might add that the sewing was crooked and shoddy!!!! She tried to make it like the strap was new and I SHOWED HER THE RAGGED EDGES!!! I then had to DEMAND my money back!!!!! NO-----DO NOT USE THIS place. She should be out of business!!!!

I don't think I've ever experience customer service as poor as I did at Vi's. I brought in 2 shoes, from different pairs, that needed repair. She gave me a promise date of 2 weeks. I went back 2 weeks later. My shoes weren't done, and there were several other shoes stacked on top of mine. She told me she would finish them and drive them to my house that evening. No shoes. When I went back a week later, she claimed she lost the paper with my address. That's why they weren't delivered, but they were now at her house. She said she'd call when they were ready. No call for weeks. I went back. The shoes were "finished" but one of the shoes was sewn together wrong. Weeks go by. I call, no return call. I finally go back, and she couldn't find the shoe. It was sitting on a table behind a sewing machine. It would've been easier to replace the shoes.

Wow, I don't know what to say... it took three attempts to alter a pair of pants that simply needed to be taken in and shortened. The end result is a $150 pair that is very snug at the waist, noticeably loose through the seat and crooked at the bottoms. They seriously look like clown pants with the ballooning in the middle. I can't believe that this is what passes for professional work. The owner tried twice to repair the problems I pointed out the first time I went to pick them up, but after a third try I think I'm going to cut my losses and chalk it up to a bad choice of tailor on my part. What a huge waste of time and money

Vi's a little hard to understand and yet she's completely reasonable for minor repairs -- WARNING : I'm a lot smarter about this industry -- VI is not equipped to handle dresses and handbag repair -- keep it simple and you'll be very happy....Especially if your girl or boy needs school or soccer/prom uniform adjustments. CLOSED ON SUNDAY&MONDAYS.

Excellent work!! I had high quality Dockers leather bomber rezippered. I was given my coat back with a double stitched, very nice, brass zipper. The coat means a lot to me and I appreciate the impeccable work. Do not be confused by other reviews that don't take into consideration the fact they are asking for repair work, not a new garment. I will bring any work I need done here as long as I live in the area. Thx

I came in on a Wednesday with my wedding being the following Tuesday needing my straps on my wedding dress taken in. I told her about my short time frame and she had it finished by Sunday! She even came in and met me when she's technically closed. I would definitely recommend Spool Box.

Vi is an absolute GEM! I panicked about a month ago when I drove by, and noticed she was no longer in the suite she had been in for years. Luckily she just moved locations. She is now in St. Charles, near Zumbehl & Veteran's Memorial Pkwy. Be sure to visit for all your alteration needs, she is the sweetest, and so SO talented!

I brought 6 men's dress shirts to Spool Box Tailering to have another button hole added to the bottom side of my dress shirts as I am quite tall and needed another lower button. I brought them in on Thursday and she said she could do it and charged a very low fee to add the hole and sew on the spare button into place for each shirt. She said they would be done on Tuesday. I had read another review on Google from someone else who said she was not prompt at getting the work done on time; however, I was referred to her from someone that does embroidery work, so I left the shirts with her. I gave her 3 blue shirts, 2 black shirts, and 1 charcoal colored shirt. I told her I wanted horizontal button holes on the blue and black shirts and a vertical button hole on the charcoal shirt. Pretty simple right? Come Tuesday, I get a call from her saying that they will not be done until Tuesday afternoon. They were not done by Tuesday afternoon when I can called so I said I'd come by Wednesday morning to pick them up. I came by Wednesday, she had 5 of my shirts done and had completely forgotten about the 6th shirt which hadn't been touched. On top of that, she had vertical holes in the 2 blue shirts, and horizontal holes in the black and charcoal shirts... AND, one of the black shirts was sewn improperly and was fraying already. I pointed it out before I left and she said that her machine got stuck on that one and that she needed to do it by hand.... why did she try to have me walk out with it like that!? So she said that she would have the other blue shirt and the black shirt done by that evening, Wednesday evening. Being unable to leave work on time to pick them up Wednesday evening, I came by this morning (Thursday) only to find them staring at me with a guilty face as I walked in.... NOT DONE YET! Please save yourself your time and the hassle and bring your articles of clothing elsewhere. She is clearing building a reputation of not meeting her time estimations and the customer service is horrendous!
