I was really bummed about how this turned out, as I was looking for a great tailor in the Royal Oak area and decided to try AA Tailoring after a friend of a friend highly recommended it.
I brought a bridesmaid dress, and the fitting went fine. I did think the place was a bit odd, as it's kind of in a basement and has a makeshift changing room, but it didn't bother me as long as she did a good job.
Then, when I picked up my dress, I noticed that the hem of the lace overlay was left unfinished. When I asked her about it, she said that it was supposed to be like that (I knew it wasn't) but that she couldn't find the original lace to double check. After paying $70 and leaving with my unfinished dress, she called me once I had already driven all the way home in rush hour traffic to tell me that she found the original lace and that I was in fact right about the hem. She then proceeded to tell me that I would have to drive all the way back and pay her an additional $20 to fix it! The time to fix it would have been when I was still there and directly asked her about it. Now she wanted me to make another two trips (to drop the dress back off and then pick it back up) and pay her more. Since she made the mistake and I even tried to point it out to her, I thought she should have at least offered to fix it free of charge.
Luckily my fiance's mom is an experienced sewer. When I brought her my dress, we realized that the crinoline underlayer was also poorly hemmed and was laying uneven. At this point, I was freaking out. I payed this woman $70 and she destroyed my dress. My finance's mom was eventually able to fix it enough for me to wear to the wedding, but it was quite the dilemma, and it's definitely in no condition to resell it now.
Maybe she does a nicer job on everyday clothing, but for expensive wedding and evening wear, I would highly suggest going elsewhere, especially for the money.
