Called to get a sense of pricing to tailor a pair of pants. The person who answered seemed moody and told me he couldn't give me a range - he rushed me off the phone thereafter. I've never been to the store but based off of that phone conversation and the reviews currently listed here, I probably will never give him any business.

Melvin tailored my jacket the same day when he found that I don't often make it downtown during normal business hours. Jacket fits perfectly. I can't recommend enough.

I've worked with Melvin's Custom Tailoring to alter three or four garments now, and I am overall very pleased with the quality of the work. Melvin's is located very conveniently right downtown; the pricing is a bit high, but seems to be well-aligned with other tailors in the city. The best part about Melvin's is the definitely friendly customer service - I always feel welcomed and comfortable. Plus, my garments are always altered to my specifications in a timely manner - really, Melvin is everything you'd want in a tailor!

Melvin got me out of a jam when I needed something altered for a wedding on a really short time frame. I really appreciated that he walked me through exactly what he was going to do in advance, and was up front about what he could and could not accomplish. Maybe on the pricier side, but the quality and speed was worth the extra cash.

I came to DC to be in a wedding and needed my bridesmaid skirt tailored in 24hrs. Melvin not only did an excellent job, he came in on Saturday to let me pick it up!

I will never go back here nor recommend Melvin's to anyone! They overcharged me for work done on a suit that I didn't agree to and then expected me to pay almost 3x the amount they quoted me on. The staff was rude and argumentative and their tailoring costs were unrealistic for the work performed. ANY other tailor would probably be better and cheaper. Long wait periods for simple alterations and consistent delays.

The guy does fantastic work, but he's unreliable on everything. I brought him something on Monday I needed for an event Saturday, meaning I needed it Friday night. I came in one Thursday. He said to pick it up Friday at 7. I came in at 7, he had only started it. I sat with him until 2am. I missed Friday of the event but had it for Saturday. Charged $225. Fine. I brought him another item, the same item in a different fabric, Wednesday the week before for an event Saturday in another city, meaning I needed it Friday night. He said would let me know if he could do it. He didn't look at until Monday and got snippy when I called to ask if he could do it, given his previous inability to adhere to a schedule. I came in Thursday, he said it would be ready Friday night. Friday night came and went. I called and he said he was currently working on it. I had to leave the city. Saturday morning, at 7:30am, he called and said I could pick it up. I was out of the city, and the event, and did not have what I needed for the event. I picked it up this week. He charged me $371. Not only is it almost twice what he charged before for the same item, but I missed an event that I spent money to attend because he didn't have it ready despite having plenty of time. His work is great. His attitude, timing, and prices are not.
