REVIEWS OF Kim's Custom Tailor IN Maryland

Mr. Kim did a good job hemming a pair of shorts that were too long. He turned send the work in 3 days for a reasonable price. Minus one star for leaving a few threads uncut from the sewing machine, but I'll be back for any other tailoring requirements.

Tim Wiley

Very satisfied with a small but difficult patch job he did to the crotch area of a pair of suit pants of mine where the fabric had worn thin and torn. $40, and my suit will live on for a couple more years.

Nick Cordell

Did a great job altering some suit pants for me. Wasn't cheap but he did great work and I had the two pairs of pants back in two days.

I've been going to Mr. Kim for over a year now. He's great--really knows what he's doing, thorough professional, and very honest in telling you what is or isn't a great idea in terms of cost. (For instance, I've brought his jackets that needed shoulder work, and he's told me that it would cost more money than it's worth--and I really like when vendors will be straight with you like that.) His prices are also very reasonable. I am also, btw, the "villain" in the 1-star review that's also posted here. Here's what actually happened. I had several garments to pick up from Mr. Kim. He handed them to me, and the other customer's pants were accidentally included. (Apparently, the other customer had left those pants sitting there for a few weeks). Anyway, when I got home, I got a call from Mr. Kim, asking if I could bring those pants back. I was preparing for a meeting the next day, so I couldn't come back that night, but I told him I'd bring them back the following evening, which I did. So the aggrieved customer had to wait all of one day for his pants to be returned. Not exactly a tragedy, imo.

Herman Shelanski

I use him all the time, great professional work.

Every single of the work for pieces I have taken to Kim’s has been beyond my expectations. The quality of his work is amazing. I recommended this place to anyone looking for a great and inexpensive tailor in the DC area.

Brian Williams

Not very impressed. Took a suit to be tailored; sleeves were uneven, coat is too tight, pants too loose.

Mr Kim hands down is the best tailor in the metropolitan area. His talents go far beyond hemming pants. He can deconstruct any garment and tailor it to perfection. I've been going to him for 2 years now and won't go anywhere else.

The same day of my daughter prom the zipper broke on her dress!! Beyond stressed and my daughter in tears I rushed over to Kim’s shop and he saved the day; to repair the zipper would have been a 2day job since the prom was that night Kim literally sewed the dress on my daughter, you couldn’t tell at all; Project Runway experience. It was pass closing time and he charged me a great price. Awesome work, great guy!!!

A bit expensive. But truly great work. He's really an expert at what he does and he's fast! I live in the neighborhood so it's really convenient. And he always has yummy candy and treats.

I take all my clothes here. A small shop with a very nice owner. He also does very good work with decent pricing.

I must say after reading all the posts about this shop I was convinced I'd be another satisfied customer. I needed some alterations done for a suit I'd purchased and went to see if he could do them in a day. After weighing my options I decided to have only the pants altered with cuffs. I initially needed the suit for travel but decided against it when he stated that it would cost about $300.00 to alter the jacket. Did the fitting for the hem and cuffs and stated that I would return the following day to pick them up. Due to time constraints I needed to leave for my trip. Upon returning I did not immediately go to pick up the pants. I finally go to the shop to pick up my pants and to my surprise ( more so to my horror), I was told by Mr.Kim my pants were taken by someone. ????? I asked what did he mean taken? He stated that someone took the pants. As I look at the area where like items hang, I noticed that they were not stored in a secure area. They were hanging on the wall in front of the counter. Those items had tickets attached to them. So, there is no way you could not know if an item is yours. They all have tickets! He stated a customer took them???? How did that happen???? When you pay for services safeguarding items goes along with the process. I'm at a loss here..... He took my number asking me to wait until the end of the week to see if the customer returns the item. It happened two days after I left (4 weeks ago). So all this time the customer has not returned or noticed they have the wrong somebody's stuff ( benefit of the doubt here). Totally disappointed. Once I'm compensated for my loss I will never use their services again.

I brought a $$$$ calfskin leather biker jacket to Kim to shorten the sleeves. He had a 7-10 day turn around. It cost 80 dollars. He altered the length of the sleeves while preserving the unique buckle-cuffs. You leave almost sad that this type of expertise is so rare.

Hello World

Seriously, this guy is DC's secret tailor, first off i was put off because it looks like i am pulling up to some guys house thinking i punched it wrong into my GPS but right off the bat i see a small line waiting to go in. Its homey but that is because its in his house that is also a business. This man has it figured out. I walk in and get dressed and he goes right to work. Honestly feels like you have your own tailor. It has a hint of smoke in the background which made me worried but i did not notice a issue with my clothing. This was such a odd but enjoyable experience i will be back for sure. I am used to store fronts but this man just made me a customer.

Quick service always done on time and professionally.

I needed a suit on by a Monday. I had left mine back home in Minnesota and so I bought one on Saturday and didn't realize it would be common for the DC area for stores to close on Sunday. I called 6 places and none picked up. Kim's is usually closed on Sunday but he said he would open it up for me. He hemmed my suit pants for a great price, $15 less than where my friend got his done elsewhere. He was easy to work with, described all the types of hemming common for men's suit, and suggested what is good and not. He's great. I will definitely come back to him again.

Mark Hunter

Owner/operator is quick with his work and short on pleasantries. Still, highly recommended.

Neal Moran

Mr. Kim does a great job and has reasonable pricing for tailoring. Also a quick turnaround

They really took care of a few important pairs of pants. Resuscitated an aging pair of trousers for which I have an undue emotional affinity, and did some tailoring to fit my new and less than exciting body proportions. I needed my things quick, and the tailor got my pants turned around in about a day, pretty cheaply for DC. Kinda don't want to leave this review because I want to keep this to myself, but Kim's has earned it.

He does it right.

Kim is very good and can get what you need when you need it. I have taken suits, suit jackets, and pants and all have come back perfect. He even re-tailored a pair of pants and fixed it when I grew too much in the mid-section after he tailored them the first time. A bit pricey but his work justifies the price. A hidden gem in SE.

Jeanna Cullins

I have been going to Mr.Kim for more than a decade and have followed him each time he moved. He does excellent work and always tries to accommodate when an item is needed. He has done rush jobs for me several times. My family and friends have also used him for years and have always been satisfied with his work. I highly recommend him.

Greg Gadren

Work is high quality, quick, and affordable. Great to have in the neighborhood.
