Joanie is absolutely amazing!! I called on a Friday at 5:05pm not knowing they closed at 5pm. They told me to come in anyway and she will fix me up right now. I needed about 1-2 inches hemmed up and it taken in 4 inches on the sides. The dress needed to be done by the following Friday and they said not a problem at all! They were confident, sweet, and so incredibly helpful! I was stressing over the dress and they made me feel so comfortable knowing it will be done in time. The dress came back beautiful and 3 days early!! Her prices are awesome! Thank you all, you rock!! I will most definitely be back soon!

So I called multiple places within the Frederick area and they wouldn't see me until the week after. I called, reached Jasmine, who told me that I could come by right away. I came through and showed her an essentially new jacket with multiple tears down the seams. She told me that I can order a cup of coffee, literally on the other side of the door, and that I wouldn't even have to leave the building before she was finished (!). Lo and behold, after hanging around for a little, not only was the repair completed in a lightning-fast amount of time, but it was also done expertly. The thing looks literally brand new. I had trouble identifying which sides were ripped to begin with. And the charge was so reasonable that I was compelled to add to it for the speed, the convenience, and the general outstanding service. Not to mention that the food, drinks and hospitality of the coffee shop were oustanding as well. Now it was a snow-day, so I don't want to place any undue expectations that this should be the expectation for every case. I assume that there might be a wait whenever they're busy, but in either case, I would highly, highly recommend this place. This was my first time having an item repaired, something I wasn't even sure was possible in this instance, and it could not have gone any smoother.

I first found Joan when my oldest daughter was 4 years old. She has been the "fairy-godmother" t o all four of my children, as well as myself, since. She made Purim costumes, fixed prom dresses, pants, whatever the need be ever since. Once again, she has saved us by transforming the dresses two different shops ruined for my now 28 year old daughter's wedding, mine and the bride's, from disaster to gorgeous! She is the absolute best there is!

My experience was appalling and horrifying. The owner kept delaying and making excuses for why my pieces were taking so long. Prom season, weddings, you name it. I finally went in after 6 weeks of this nonsense to just get my belongings. Two of the items are missing. One piece was damaged. And one piece had mouse poop inside it! When you go into this establishment, you won't be shocked at these claims. It's a complete dump. Stuff everywhere. Wedding dresses in balls on the floor. Dogs inside all day. There isn't a place to step. I actually had to step on a wedding dress to go inside, which I felt so bad doing, but I had no choice... And the owner had no apologies. Said she doesn't do these types of alterations. Why didn't she just turn me away when I dropped everything off?? She told me to learn how to sew. She actually told me to go somewhere else to get it done, and insulted the competition she was sending me to. I've never experienced anything like it. I don't understand how there are any positive reviews? Because she's charismatic and eccentric? I could care less about the personality of my tailor, I just want the work done properly and on time. This business is a travesty and a stain on this nice city.

Joan Jenkins is simply amazing. I was searching the internet for a new tailor and came across Joan Jenkins. She seemed very nice over the phone, so I thought I would give her a try. Glad I did!! I lost some weight recently and asked Joan to tailor a few fleece pullover shirts. All I can say is that I was blown away by how she made these shirts feel almost "custom" made for my body. You couldn't tell that these were ever altered. Every stitch and seam looked like the original piece. I rarely write reviews about any business but Joan is so good that I felt the need to share. Her prices are extremely reasonable considering her expertise plus I had my shirts back in a few short days. I will be bringing all of my business to Joan in the future. Highly recommended!!

I live for joanie. This woman saved my dress. I had used the alterations department where i had bought my dress and they were horrific. So a week and a half before my wedding i had to find someone to fix my destroyed dress. Joanie was my fairy godmother. She had visions, ideas and the ability to fix my dress. She did wonders, made it perfect and saved my life essentially. I would recommend to anyone and everyone in the world.

Joan is amazing!! I found her through Google based on her reviews and I can't be happier with her service and her skill. She is four times cheaper than the tailor I usually use to alter my new suits. She even took me in on a Sunday evening and had two suits done by Tuesday afternoon. I would recommend her service to anyone. She will be the only tailor I use moving forward. Thank you Joan.

When I walked in I should have walked out. I needed the cuffs on a leather jacket shortened for a Christmas gift for my son. Joan told me it would be ready on December 8th, no receipt given. I returned on the 11th and she told me it would be ready tomorrow, December 12th and to arrive before 2:00pm. I arrived at 11:30 and she Tossed it to me and said " I didn't have time to do it" and "He doesn't need it since is 70 degrees outside". She acted upset with me ! I said I wish you told me that two weeks ago. Then she added " Good luck finding someone who can to leather". It took me 30 minutes to find North End Tailoring on Market Street. They do leather, gave me a receipt and were polite.

I have been taking my clothes to Joan ever since I moved to the Frederick area several years ago, and she has done a great job on everything! She has tailored my clothes, and many of my son's suits, coats and pants. She is very informative and honest about her alterations. If it can't be done, or shouldn't be done, she will tell you. I would recommend her to anyone that wants a good job done on alterations and repairs.

I've had a couple different experiences here. The first one was great she altered a dress for me did a wonderful job and it was done in a timely fashion. Recently I've had a bad experience I dropped off a dress to be altered in July and I've been back four times since and she's doing the same thing with excuses every time about weddings and everything else Under the Sun . She looks for my dress and can't find it she takes my number down each time and says she will call me the next day and I never hear from her. So I've been popping in once a week. Today she was very dismissing of me and still has no idea where my dress is.. the first time I stopped and she said it was almost finished and another time she can't remember what the dress looks like, and this time she was busy and had to concentrate on what she was doing and it's probably on the Finish rack but she didn't take the time to look for me. I'm sure she has no idea where the dress is.

I was looking for a new seamstress when I dealt with an altercation where I purchased my dress. So I went to look for a new seamstress and found joanie! I heard lots of good things about her! She worked on my dress for about 2-3 weeks before my wedding and she did an amazing job!! And you can't beat her prices! But I will say I was shocked about the appearance of her shop. It could use a clean up for sure but her work is amazing!!!

Joanie is by far the best in her profession. It may take her a bit longer than usual as she is the busiest in town, so be patient. I gained weight and could not in no way fit my dress. This was my dream dress and I was so scared. I dropped my dress off 2 weeks before my wedding and she had it ready and fitting me like a glove. Thank you Joanie

I brought my suit, jacket and pants, to be altered. It 2 weeks to do the job instead of 1 week as originally agreed. On the day of the pick up pants were not ready and the tailor hurried to finish them. The quality of the work is poor, jacket has lines in the back, pants are not even at the bottom. I am not coming back ever again, my suit is ruined, horrible job, the place itself is dirty and unorganized.

My wedding was 12 years ago and I am still heartbroken by how my dress turned out. It only needed very simple alterations and the entire experience from start to finish was a disaster. She ended up keeping the dress for weeks upon weeks and in the end I finally said just give it back to me and I had my boss's friend do the best she could (she was not a professional!) with the basically ruined dress. It is my biggest regret from my wedding day that I did not seek out a more professional tailor from the beginning. The awful state of her shop should have been a huge red flag (my mom actually had to ask her for a clean sheet to put down on the floor under my dress so it wouldn't get filthy!). I see that she has many positive reviews so I guess a lot of people are happy with her work, but I will just say if you are looking for a clean, professional environment and want your work done in a timely manner, look elsewhere!!!

I love reading reviews and you can tell which ones carry weight and which should not. Every single person who offers a service will get bad reviews, it's inevitable - because they are human. With that being said, set up an appointment with Joanie "The Fairy Godmother of Dresses" and just see if she is a good fit for what you are looking for first. True, from most points of view she may seem disorganized, I give you that, but her system seems to work for her. My dress is not complete yet because we still have plenty'ish of time, but the first day I walked in there I felt at ease with her and she was so positive, sweet and upbeat, promising me that this dress would be everything I needed and wanted it to be - I left it in her hands, with her vision. :) I have no doubt I'll be happy. You might have to make a couple of calls, that's fine. It might be a business, but it's definitely her passion. If you have a dress that needs something special, or a complete makeover, then she is definitely the one. I found her through word of mouth and I'm happy she is giving me her time. No, there is nothing 'formal' about her nor her process in which she runs her business, but I think that is why I liked her even more. When I was there the first time I got to see a veil Joanie had created and it was absolutely gorgeous, and she shared the story behind it with me - I was even there when the young girl came to pick it up and she was thrilled.

Prom season is her crazy season. She fixed my daughter's dress which involved a lot of work and charged me a ridiculous low amount. I paid her double what she charged because she did a fantastic job and charged so little. The shop does look like a dress store exploded but it was prom season.

I had dropped off my prom dress with her and she said she could do all the alterations i needed and even more, all she needed was 7-10 days. i came back 2 weeks later and the dress was not even touched or moved from where i had left it.
