They were great .. Super fast "master tailor"

Do not come here if you are seeking a place to get tailoring done that suits your needs. If you seek nice fitting, tight, not loose clothing do not! Come here! You have been warned. They are very nice people but the quality of work does not match the attitude. Very disappointed.

Do not get an original hem or tapering here for selvedge denim. They do not realize how much your selvedge denim costs and they will ruin the most important characteristic of the denim. I've been to tailors that are able to work around the selvedge and they charged less. Charging almost $50 for tapering and over $20 for hemming is rather unreasonable.

This was the worst tailor I've ever used. When i was unhappy with his work, he refused to fix it, refused to give me my money back, and told me to TAKE HIM TO COURT for it. Unbelievable. I would give no stars if I could. EDIT: Their response below is not true. The tailor continued to shout at me and not listen to my requests. It ended with him telling me to take him to court if i wanted my money back. Do yourself a favor, and go elsewhere. Read the other review. There is a clear pattern here of bad work, and non existent customer service. I only used them because my normal tailor was out of town. I took a bridesmaid dress there and asked that they add three inches of elastic to the back of the dress, where there was already elastic, to add more space. They made me PAY IN ADVANCE. When i picked up the dress, i could instantly tell that the back area was TIGHTER not LOOSER. Come to find out, he replaced ALL of the elastic with new elastic, plus the three inches i asked for. HOWEVER, he did not take into account that the NEW elastic was itself tighter than the old elastic previously in the dress. He should have added more elastic than the 3 inches i asked for OR at least called me to discuss that he was not doing what i had originally requested. Instead, when i asked him to add more elastic, HE REFUSED. He continued to explain, what he did, saying that I Didn't understand. When i asked for my money back, HE TOLD ME TO TAKE HIM TO COURT. WORST SERVICE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED.

I needed pants hemmed and let out for an important work conference and only had 24 hours. The tailor was accommodating and his work is always good! 4 pants in 24 hours? I'm impressed and will be back!

Elizabeth Superczynski

highly recommend! only place i trust for alterations

A little on the pricey side, but I've gotten some dress clothes (including a few suits) tailored here a few times and they've been able to accommodate me when I'm in a hurry.

I've been here a couple times for small mending jobs because they are close to my work, but never again. I am so disappointed in the service I received here recently. They are unbelievably unprofessional and rude. I had a pair of pants that needed a seam mended, which they did. But when I tried on the pants at home there was a scratch in the fabric at the back of the pants that caused my underwear to show through when the pants were on, that wasn't there before I brought these pants into the shop (I wore them all the time). I went in to the shop and pointed this out, and asked for them to fix it (its probably a $1 patch) and they called me a liar and said that there's no way they did this. I was being calm and said that its probably a scratch from a hanger, accidents happen, could you please fix it. They said no way they would ever make a mistake and the manager continued to yell at me and accuse me of lying while there was another customer in the shop! I am in shock over their lack of customer service, especially because I am a regular customer. They refused to fix a mistake that was their fault, and didn't offer any money back or a courtesy patch. I will never do business with Custom Tailor of Columbia again and will no longer recommend them to anyone. I should have been wary of this place from the beginning. There are no price lists anywhere, and when you come in the manager "jokes" that everything costs 10 million dollars and you can't afford it. Furthermore, they don't have a computer and all the transactions are recorded in a composition notebook. When you get a receipt it just says what you paid on it and is not itemized by each job or item. When they do something right, its fine, but everything else about this shop is terrible. TLDR; Manager is rude, prices are made up on the spot, TERRIBLE customer service (none, really), and they don't have a computer for transactions.

Richard (owner) is a hilarious, cool, down to earth family guy. Always has my kids laughing and has been in business since I was a little boy. I remember my parents going to Richards shop back when he used to be in Montgomery county and I have followed him to custom tailor of Columbia. He's honest, does great work and his price is fair. Wouldn't go to anyone else. I've had custom work done to simple pants hemmed. Cant keep everyone happy and i guess thats why there have been some misunderstandings according to some negative comments that I couldn't believe. Anyway great person, great work, fair price! That's for real!

I had to order my bridesmaid dress for my sister-in-law's wedding when I was 7 months pregnant (with my measurements at the time!) and the shop ordered a ridiculously small size for me! I kept putting off trying it on once the baby was born because my body was changing still and when I finally did try it on (about two weeks before the wedding), I was shocked to discover it was several sizes too small! I went to another tailor first who had excellent reviews but she told me there was no way I could make that dress fit and wished me luck. Then I went to Mr. Chen at the Custom Tailor of Columbia. I have had excellent work done there before, but I wanted to try somewhere closer to home first. He told me he could fix it and sent me out to buy specific amounts of fabric to match the dress. Long story short, HE DID IT!!!!!!!!! With only 8 days or so until I needed to pick up the dress, the team at Custom Tailor of Columbia altered my dress perfectly :) I am attaching a picture and although you may be able to guess which of us just had a baby, I bet my dress isn't the giveaway! I am so thankful for this place and the wonderful and talented people who work here :) I cannot recommend them more highly!

I have yet to have a bad experience here. I have had alterations done and patches sewn on my uniforms. Everything always meets my expectations. The owner is very friendly. Very polite when I come in and I always get my clothes back looking great!

Excellent job, Richard is the man! The outfit was tailored perfectly. I highly recommend.

Custom tailor is the best place in Columbia. The owners are super friendly, knowledgeable, and talented. I have taken multiple items there- items ranging from curtains to my wedding dress- and never been unhappy. I have been going there at 10 years plus.

Willis Zhang

A true local homegrown small business! Speaking for male tailoring, I had my groomsmen tailored here and it was an excellent job. The style is not cutting-edge modern but still nice and fitted.

Richard is phenominal. He is nothing but class and customer service. I have had him alter Gucci belts, Diesel jeans and dress clothes. The work they perform is perfect and always on time. The pricing is very fair for the work they do. I’d highly recommend them for all of your tailoring needs.

I'm going to give the honest unbiased review. First with the positive Richard is a good tailor with menswear suits he gets a 5 star for that and his wife is super nice and engaging. The two suits he did for me for two weddings (one for a clients/friends wedding, and the other for my sisters wedding) were great. When I recommended my mother go to him because of his great work for me, she entrusted me and went to him. He did not do a good job with tailoring her dress and was very combative with my mother and sister. My mother is not combative or confrontational person at all she would just rather pay for a bad job then dispute. My sister was getting married in less than a week and went with my mother to see the tailoring job for my mothers dress that my mother was wearing to my sisters wedding. When I heard the frustration from my sister about the bad stitching, I came in the next day to calmly inquire about the issue, I saw the half job done with the stitching and calmly commented and pointed the bad stitching job on it, the owner Richard then sarcastically and rudely asked me try on my mothers dress. Now the evolved and matured me with a high paying government job and a sisters wedding in less than a week let him slide with the total disrespect, without retaliating in violence and dragging him all through Columbia Mall, but the three year ago version of me without the high paying job or sisters wedding in less than a week, I can promise the scenario would have been much different. I professionally and calmly paid him, thanked him for my tailored suit, and walked out. My mother found another tailor in Baltimore who did the job better and without issues. For that comment and combativeness alone I will never do business with the owner Richard again. Below is the bad stitching done on my mothers dress. I'm writing this review in hopes Richard tones down his anger and chooses his words wiser for future customers who might react differently/violently towards his combativeness in my position and not have as much to lose as myself.

WARNING: DO NOT GO HERE! TERRIBLE!!! I am so disappointed in the service I received here. They were unbelievably unprofessional and rude. I went in there and spoke very nicely with them in regards to their mistake and they continued to scream at me and offer nothing but attitude toward me in response. I am in shock over their lack of customer service and feel as though I have been scammed after having paid them $95 only to be treated like garbage. They refused to fix a mistake that was their fault and offered absolutely no resolution. I will never do business with Custom Tailor of Columbia again and would recommend everyone to avoid the mistake of ever working with them. If I could give 0 stars I would. WARNING: Do not go here!

I have been coming to custom tailors for a long time and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Everyone is always nice and services always meets my expectations, which is really high. They take pride in their work and it shows. I won’t go anywhere else. They work with you and get things done in a timely manner. I really love custom tailors and will continue to come here as long as they are here.

I'll start this off by saying that I rarely take the time to leave reviews. However, my experience here was so horrible that I needed to share. My brother has frequented this tailor for a couple of years now and suggested him to my mother, father, and I as we sought a professional tailor for my wedding this past February. My brother's first few experiences here were awesome, per his remarks, which led my mother to give them her business. After several rounds of tailoring (letting the waist area out and covering a mesh-lined bust area), my mother's dress wasn't nearly flattering. Concerning the bust area, the work had been so haphazardly done that I was legitimately worried she would need to find a new dress (less than two weeks before my wedding). Still, at this point, I hadn't given up hope and instead wanted to speak directly to the tailor to figure out a solution. I have NEVER had such disappointing customer service with a professional tailor. He was rude, snarky, argued with me and seemed to almost be talking down to me because of my disappointment in the work completed thus far. It should also be noted that, at this point, my mother had already paid $300 in alterations, some of which were completed INCORRECTLY. He charged an additional $150 to FIX his own MISTAKE. He was clearly miffed about me having an opinion on my mother's dress for my own wedding and on more than one occasion said, in a snarky way, "You have all of these problems, why don't YOU pay for it yourself." Seriously? I was prepared to pay for the alterations since my mom had paid so much already, but because of the disrespect, I REFUSED to give him any of my hard-earned money. This was literally one of the worst parts of my entire wedding planning experience (so much so that I've remembered and am writing a review 3 months into my marriage)! I'm sure not everyone has had this same experience, but if I can warn you to think twice, I would have done my job. Beware!

I needed zippers replaced on both of my boots due to my taking them off a handful of times without unzipping all the way. Not only were my zippers expertly replaced, my boots were cleaned, the interior souls replaced, and the high stress area of the zipper was reinforced. I'm a seamstress, but boots were beyond my ability. I'm so impressed! I couldn't even see seam lines. Expert work for much less $$ than I expected. I'll most certainly be back!

They altered a Redskins field jacket that is no longer in production and made it look brand new. Knowledgeable, awesome service, and professional. I'd recommend them to anyone
