DO NOT GO HERE. THE OWNER CUT THE TAGS OFF OF MY DRESS BEFORE QUOTING ME A PRICE AND WITHOUT PERMISSION! I REPEAT DO NOT GO HERE! I would give zero stars if I could. I never write reviews, but feel the need to warn people away from this place. I went to get a SIMPLE hem on a formal dress (JUST the outer layer). After doing the initial pins, I went to get changed while owner was formulating quote. After receiving the quote (MORE than my dress) I said I would just return the dress because I had another option. She said I wouldn't be able to do that because SHE HAD CUT OFF THE TAGS. I repeat- she cut the tags off without my permission and without giving me a price quote. I have NEVER heard of this happening EVER. To make it worse, she was not apologetic AT ALL- did not offer to remedy the situation, lower the price, help me out. As a student at IU with limited funds, I left the store crying as she sat there and did nothing. I am absolutely outraged by this customer service. Luckily, found another tailor in town much more reasonable (charged me 35 compared to 75) and equally outraged by this behavior. Avoid this place at all costs.

As a seamstress for Margaret, I see what comes in and leaves, and I can tell you I am extremely impressed with my coworkers ability to alter and mend clothing for the community. I am honored to be a part of such a welcoming environment. And I thank all of our customers and Margaret for the opportunity to help make people look good in their clothing.

I have taken everything from shirts and slacks to jeans and ties to be altered at The Tailored Fit for many years now. Margaret and her staff do a great job. Her prices may be a little more then others but you get what you pay for. I had taken things to other seamstresses over the years prior to a friend telling me about The Tailored Fit. Some were ok and others at least would say if they could not do something. I have not found a issue that the Tailored Fit could not do or fix. Regarding prices, they always tell you upfront what it will cost when you take the item in so you can opt not to do it if the cost does not make sense for you. I would recommend them for to any one needing a small repair or large repair.

There is no one better. Over the years, I’ve watched their staff do incredible work on wedding dresses, men’s suits, and formals. My daughter was in a wedding once. The bride ordered dresses online. My daughter needed a 6 and received a 14. They had to take it apart and remake it completely. The other bridesmaids went with a place a little less expensive. They were very upset when they saw how much better my daughter’s looked even though the others were only off by a size or 2. They are miracle workers!

I have had several work uniforms tailored here and have had no problems. I have also taken in a cosplay item in for custom work and it turned out fantastic. Even got my items finished well before stated deadline! Very friendly and helpful staff and top quality work!

Everything I've had altered here has come out really great.

I bought my first maxi dress online and of course, it didn't fit right. Because I live in Bloomington, I searched online to find local seamstresses that could do the work within a week before my summer vacation. I saw positive reviews on the Tailored Fit, so I thought it would be a safe choice. Boy was I wrong! The only work that my dress needed were the straps. They were too long, making the dress fit awkwardly around my arms and chest. I should have checked prices with my grandmother first (she spent her entire life sewing - I would have went to her too had she not been going blind), but I didn't. And because of that I ended up spending $30 for my dress. This may not sound like much, but after contacting my grandmother and my mother (who also has done a fair share of sewing), apparently, I was jipped. She took advantage of the fact that I didn't know anything about sewing prices and overcharged me by about double what she should have. Although the work she did was quite well, I will never go back to her. I do not work with dishonest people and I will not recommend her to anyone UNLESS you know how much your work will cost before you go in there.

After several years of wanting to learn how to sew, I finally took that first leap forward into doing so. Because I didn’t have the slightly clue on where to begin, I signed up and participated in Tailored Fit’s Sewing Machine: Demystified. This was a great decision. Walked away feeling a more confident in where to begin with my brand new seeing machine. It’s no longer so intimidating. The instructor of this particular class, Molly, is such a delight! No doubt I will take future classes with Tailored Fit. If you’re considering taking a class and wondering if the money is worth it, let me say, it was worth every penny for myself.

Consistently the best tailor service in Bloomington. I am never disappointed by the quality of workmanship when I bring in items to be altered.

Margaret worked with me to look at 13 pieces that were sitting in my closet, but that I was not wearing because of fit problems. Some were too large (dresses mostly, but also one blazer) and others were too small (pants that needed letting out and a blazer I was not willing to give away that, when let out, gained a whole size). Margaret not only helped me see how the pieces could become wearable and wonderful again through tailoring, she also helped me understand the three pieces that were probably not worth altering, since the problem was more the style and fabric than it was the fit. For me, the price of about $10-$30 per garment was very reasonable and well worth it, since I gained ten more great pieces back into my wardrobe. I will add that Margaret is a body-positive and kind person to work with. I know I'll go back next time I have a piece of clothing that could use some tweaking. Definitely consider taking your clothes to Margaret before giving up on them!

I took my wedding gown to Margaret with months to spare before my wedding. When I would call to check in, she acted as if we had ample time. There were many issues with the service and ultimately, I took my dress somewhere else. Instead of starting with alterations that would never change, such as height, she started with the bust. We were 4 months from the wedding. As she is pinning, she says "now you cant again weight". I should have known there. Her staff did make some changes that were helpful, like covering discoloration on my used gown, but to have it almost two months and do minimal work was stressful for me. The alterations she planned to make cost more than a a new gown would have, so I asked for two detailed invoices, one for what had been done and a second for what was planned. There were major communication issues, so I called to clarify. When she understood what I was asking for she was very heated, lost her temper and acted as if I was waisting her time. She told me that no one had ever asked her to present a detailed invoice and this would take her "45 minutes". That sealed the deal. The next day I went to retrieve my gown. Never once did she apologize for her outburts. A bride has many stressors to deal with, but let me tell you, this woman was the most stressful part of my preparations. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere. Her staff, on the other hand, were considerate and kind. She blamed all communication issues on them when in reality she was rarely prepared for any of our appointments. Terrible leadership as a business owner. Lastly, she has displayed my photo without my permission. I wonder what the BBB will have to say about that.

I had Margaret work on my wedding gown. In the very beginning, I was so nervous to have ANYONE work on it because it was such a heavily beaded, yet delicate gown. She really made it look even more amazing than I imagined. During the process, she had me look at bustles for my gown, but all had me worried that they'd take away from it and look tacky. She listened to this concern and made up a bustle custom to my dress that was just stunning. I mean, this she did some very, very amazing work. I am so overjoyed with the finished product. I really can't thank Margaret enough. My dress was handled with such individualized thought and care. I recommend her shop to anyone needing formal wear work done. She's wonderful. We even decided to have her shop do the groom's suit!

Linda Hunt

Excellent service and met the schedule. Alterations to shoulders and shoulder pads of a beautiful jacket that was a gift years ago. I plan to take another coat in soon for major alterations. Highly recommend the business.

Gunsite Scout

I'm very happy with the zipper replacement on my jacket. I can't even tell that it's not the original! The price was more than fair for the job.

Daniel Majors

Great experience with great results. My only disappointment was with the prices. I wasn’t 100% sure what I needed and the cost wound up being really expensive. However, with that being said, I could not be happier with the quality of the work done but the prices are a bit steep.

DON'T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE. They did a terrible job on my wedding gown. It was a simple job to narrow down a little the waist, but they did a VERY POOR job finishing it. They left a space between the ends of the band around the waist, and the ends are not even in the same height anymore (see pic) -- nothing like the gown looked before alteration, in which the band ends touched each other nicely and evenly. Also, the stitches holding the beads in the area they altered are all coming out and the beads are falling apart. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED. And they did overprice me, as others commented here, but I thought it was going to be worth it. I can't believe they could be so careless and unthoughtful with something so important for someone! I didn't look at the work when I got the dress because I was in a hurry and I trusted them, so I just saw the disaster when I got home. Now I will find a way to fix it, because THEY ARE NOT TOUCHING MY DRESS ANYMORE. My biggest problem with all of this is that it was not a mistake, it was not a misunderstanding, they finished the job, they had to see how it looked and they just didn't care to do a better job -- pure neglect and carelessness.

Cody Haycraft

Wasn't particularly impressed, especially at the price point. Took a suit here to get pants shortened up and the jacket tailored. We discussed a lot of alterations and measurements, and they charged me over a $100. When I got the suit back, you could barely tell anything had been done. Like literally, I'm not convinced they just didn't forget about the suit and decide to hand it back to me unaltered.

The tailored fits service goes above in beyond in many ways, I have friends that rave and rave about this place! I will always come here if I ever need anything done in the future !

Susan Barker

Very happy with zipper replacement on favorite jacket!

Jennifer Richler

Great service. Somewhat pricey but worth it for the quality of the work.

I chose The Tailored Fit for my wedding gown alterations and I could not have been more pleased with their work and their professionalism. I had three scheduled appointments fittings and each time they finished their work early, called me promptly, and invited me to the shop to try on my gown. At the final fitting the dress fit me like a glove! I could not have been more pleased with the talent and customer service of these amazing seamstresses.

If you're looking to get a suit tailored in Bloomington, then this is THE place to go. I am an IU Kelley business student, and I always want my suits to make me look my absolute best when I wear them. The confidence that I desire my suits to give me is what I look for in the abilities and knowledge of a tailor. And Margaret has it. She is incredibly skilled at her profession, and from the moment I suited up to the moment I handed her my suits and walked out the door, I was 100% confident in her abilities to make my suit look and feel excellent on me. On top of that, Margaret has an upbeat and kind personality that makes business with her a genuine pleasure. She took the time to be transparent with me about pricing and suit tailoring, teaching me a lot of information that I previously didn't know, which was extremely insightful to me. Her pricing is fair and her genuineness is rare. Margaret's skills, talents, transparency, genuine character, reliability, and speediness (my two suits and peacoat were finished within 9 days) are exceptional. I highly recommend her. I will continue using Margaret for the rest of my tailoring needs in Bloomington, and I wouldn't think of going to anyone else. Go to The Tailored Fit, and I promise, you won't regret it!

Even though they primarily work on garments they agreed to fix the couch cushion my dog tore up. Their prices are very reasonable and they even finished my repairs much sooner than originally quoted. I'll definitely be back in the future.

I learned about the Tailored Fit from a previous roommate of mine who had dropped a pair of pants off to the Tailored Fit prior to it moving to its W. 11th St. location. The pants which were defunct from the manufacturer have been no problem since. The previously mentioned roommate knew I was interested in sewing lessons and suggested I speak with Margaret. On my way home from work one day I stopped in briefly and informed her of my interest in sewing together a collection of garment and accessories. The date was sometime mid September 2016. A little over a year later (December 23, 2017), thanks tremendously to the mentorship and care of Margaret Fette, I have been able to make products that are of highly demanded quality. I am forever thankful, as I have not only taken lessons from her (complete with a critical review at the end of construction), but also am a current tenant of her studio spaces which has served as the creative grounds for my first season of garments and accessories. BL: If you are looking for great quality tailor/alterations work, or an aspiring sewer/designer Margaret Fette's place is a well of abundance.

"A wedding day disaster." My husband and I were married back home in Savannah, Georgia. I moved up here, however, and took my wedding gown to The Tailored Fit for the necessary alterations (take it in at the waist and hem it). She gave us an estimate of $400. I arrived for my second fitting and was horrified when I discovered my wedding gown hem had been cut and hemmed FOUR INCHES TOO SHORT! I took photos of it while I was in the dressing room and wish I could upload them for everyone to see. There was a minor one inch hem of fabric left, so there was no way of correcting it easily. I fell apart because the wedding was in a month and this was my dream dress. Instead of handling it professionally by apologizing and actually showing me some compassion when I was clearly devastated, the owner chose to convince me that I was pulling the gown too high underneath my arms, when it was designed to wear it that way. She insisted on pulling the bust part down low enough so the hem didn't to look too short in the front and actually tried to convince me it looked good with the structured bust area well below where my natural bust is. I looked at her, with her one of assistants there, and said, "Are you serious? You think I'll look good like this when I lift my arms over my head to throw my bouquet?" I raised my arms to mimic the motion and my breasts came completely out of the top of the dress and sat there like they were sitting on a shelf. She had nothing to say. I was extremely upset, and yet again, instead of having the integrity to take responsibility for it, she blamed her assistant and told me she'd somehow fix it. To add insult to injury, she handed us a final bill for $800 when we picked up the gown! When I asked why she doubled it, she had the audacity to say, "Well, it took a lot of work to deconstruct the dress enough to fix the short hem." I was stunned, and so broken-hearted because the dress was still noticeably short and it definitely affected how I felt that day. There's nothing worse than finding the perfect dress for you and someone making you feel more than a little self-conscious on your own wedding day. It was a "high-water" dress by the time she got finished with it. I paid her and left because I was under so much stress trying to finish up all the wedding details in Georgia and I just couldn't deal with it. Our photographer's had to spend over many, many hours editing all the wedding photos, so you couldn't tell my gown was too short. Our wedding story was chosen for a national publication in a popular wedding magazine, but I refused to acknowledge The Tailored Fit business as a contribution to our day. It would have been incredible marketing for the business to use for years. I would never send anyone to this shop, because I also saw other work she was doing on a military officer's jacket and the coat's sleeve and arm seams looked terrible. She states she's "couture" trained, but I saw nothing to prove that to me. If you don't have the ability to successfully alter highly structured garments, you shouldn't be in the business.

We took my daughter’s very complicated prom dress to them and this had their work cut out for them! They had to rebead A LOT! Also, had to cut off the train and hem it. Finished it early and looked amazing! Thank you!!

I have used The Tailored Fit on four separate occasions, and I have never been disappointed with the quality or affordability of their work. Most recently, I had an emergency. The day before an important business trip, I began packing my suits and noticed a loose button on one of my jackets. I called before normal business hours and explained my dilemma on their voicemail, hoping that I would be called as soon as they opened at noon. Within 15 minutes of leaving a message, I received a call from Margaret, and she told me to bring in the suit as soon as possible. Within 10 minutes of my arrival, Margaret had sewn on the button. Furthermore, when I offered her an extra $20 for her prompt service, she refused to take it. All said, The Tailored Fit is among the best tailors I have ever used.

I really did not have a good experience here. It's more expensive than other places in town, and the service isn't great. When I got my wedding dress back, which I brought in a garment bag, the woman handed it to me unbagged. The alterations were not done well. The bottom of my dress looked like it was hacked with scissors. I was told that was how chiffon is, even though they told me they were bringing the dress up at the waist not the hem

Margaret and her tailor-team have successfully tailored my clothes to fit for years. I highly recommend. From sports coats to suit pants, she has yet to disappointment.

I'll never go anywhere else! Margaret knows us by name. She takes the time to do a great job, and also make sure her customers are satisfied. Margaret always works with us to find a solution to our alteration needs, no matter how creative she has to be. Can't recommend her highly enough!

I ended up gaining almost 30lbs before my wedding, I was trying to lose weight to fit into my dress but then it came to be weeks before my wedding and my dress still didn’t fit right. The ladies at the Tailored fit were absolutely amazing. Not only did they tailor my dress but they were so compassionate and kind, they tried to build me up and make me feel comfortable in my skin! I ended up losing almost 10 lbs and with their help my dress fit perfectly on my wedding day! They were fast, efficient and very friendly! Their pricing was more than fair for what they had to to do in the time they had to do it. They are easy to reach and work with, I would recommend them a millions times over!

Tim Whitson

Friendly staff and quick turnaround. They also helped me choose suit sizes for some suits I bought online.
