Cathy was with a customer and so i walked around the shop, mesmerized with the selection and collections of fabrics (there are also some really nice off the rack coats, jackets, sweaters and blackhawks gear). once she was ready to assist, she and i discussed what i was looking to have made, my budget and then we started looking through fabric books, which is quite enjoyable i must add. i was comfortable as she walked me through the whole process, took down a number of specific measurements as to how i stand, the pitch of my shoulder, etc. Settling on a few fabric choices we also chose details like the collar style, cuffs, monograms and so on. i highly recommend this to any out there looking to bolster your wardrobe. my shirts feel fantastic and i will be back for more. thank you again!

My wife and I have been going to RB for alterations work for the last few years. The service at RB is always friendly and professional. The work product is simply amazing. They can be trusted to provide an honest estimate on the timing of a project, and they always make their deadlines. Their work is prompt, well executed, and reasonably priced. And they will always provide an honest assessment of whether a desired alteration is actually achievable (amongst other things, I learned that one cannot convert a double breasted garment into a single breasted, or vice versa; one cannot recut peak lapels into notch; and it’s really hard to remove pleats from trousers. I figured that everyone should benefit from my stupid questions.) By way of background, I lost a significant amount of weight (40 pounds) and had to get a number of suits, blazers, and top coats taken in. I am embarrassed to admit how many garments needed to be taken in, but I assure you it was quite a lot. Too many, in fact. (It would seem that I have a bit of a shopping problem, compounded by a hoarding problem, compounded by more closet space than I need. I’m working on it. Sort of.) Anyway, the key point here is this: I lost a lot of weight and I had a lot of clothes, and the process of taking those clothes in went on for over a year, because my weight loss was slow and steady, meaning that certain garments had to be taken in more than once. I was a regular fixture inside RB, and the RB folks were regular guests in my home (some professionals still make house calls). In addition, I had some of those garments taken in by the original vendors with the balance taken in by the RB. In some cases, the RB folks had to fix what the original vendors had botched. This process (actually, it was more of a saga) gave me a solid basis to compare the ability of different tailors to execute on difficult alterations. In terms of the difficulty of execution, I lost about 1 inch at the shoulders, around 4 inches at the chest, and 7 inches are the waist. A number of jackets had to be completely reconstructed with significant work done around the arm holes. A number of trousers had to be opened up and completely recut. A large number of shirts had to be completely recut at the waist and arm holes, with significant tapering work done down the full length of the sleeves. In terms of process, the RB folks were both knowledgeable and able to communicate their knowledge. They can tell you exactly what needs to be done, how difficult it will be, and how much risk you run in potentially ruining a garment. This gives the customer the ability to decide whether a particular garment is “good enough as is” or whether it makes sense to risk the garment altogether in order to achieve a better fit. This became a regular decision for me as my weight loss progressed. As time went on (remember, this saga went on for about 15 months), I also noticed something interesting. My knowledge of tailoring techniques increased to the point where I could ask the original vendor tailors whether a particular garment could be altered using a technique that I learned through RB. In many cases, the original tailors would tell me that a particular alteration or technique was impossible; I often took the same garment to RB, and the RB tailors would execute perfectly on the supposedly impossible alteration or technique. True craftsmanship is quite impressive. In terms of results, the RB alterations came out far better than I could ever have hoped. If you come in with garments requiring massive alterations, you have to expect that some will wind up in the donate pile. It is what it is. I expected to salvage 1 out of every 3 blazers and 1 out of every 4 suits (I expected a lower salvage ratio on the suits due to the need to re-cut the trousers). As it turned out, the RB tailors were able to salvage about 3 out of every 4 blazers and nearly all my suits. They also saved most of my shirts. This was an amazing outcome and an amazing process. I cannot say enough about RB!

They did an absolutely beautiful job both replacing the lining and adjusting the coat so it fits me perfectly. I first went to RBT at the insistence of my father. I never had custom clothes before, and did not think them worth the fuss or expense. The last three years have proven me wrong. The pants I bought then are still in constant wear, and when I go back for extra pieces Cathy has a detailed file with all my previous orders, measurements, and the fabric swatches. You just can't get that level of service from a mall. I highly recommend the store and the staff.

I am always impressed with the friendly and helpful nature of the whole team - Albert, Jim and Cathy. The shop has a huge assortment of swatches at all price levels. They will help you choose the best collar style to compliment the shape of your head, neck and body. These are truly custom made shirts and can be tweaked to your liking ~ from cuff style and opening to collar stitching to length of tail, etc. Don't let the mystique of custom made shirts scare you. Once you try a RB shirt, I doubt you'll go elsewhere. I strongly recommend a visit to the shop.

No problems and no pressure. I walked in looking for a new blazer and ended up buying two. It was helpful for me, I think, that I had an idea of not only what I wanted, but wear I would wear these items. This helped create sort of a picture that the RB staff were able to fit. At least that was the case for me. RB gave me very personal and patient attention, showed me a number of different fabrics, took measurements, and I was out the door. I returned about four weeks later for a fitting, and then returned 3 days after that to pick up my jackets. I love them. I was going for a very polished and fitted look, and that is exactly what I got. Very satisfied customer.

I've visited Richard Bennett and placed on order a few custom made shirts. Im a pretty conservative guy and decided to stretch out a little bit. The shirts made are of the highest quality the fabric and fit are just wonderful. My handler, Cathy has an excellent eye for fabric AND anticipates quite correctly what she thinks i want. I decided to have an overcoat made for the winter and Cathy brought out a fabulous fabric and i just picked up the coat!!!! Just amazing!!!! I am a woman and had several beautiful cashmere sports jackets that my. Husband and also my son no longer wanted. They told me to take them to the Salvation Army. There is no way I am giving 100% cashmere jackets away when the label says Zegna, Paul Stuart, Louis Boston, or Neiman Marcus. I called around to tailors and found that many do not do tailoring for women. Then I found Richard Bennett Custom Tailors on the list and called them. Instead of “no” they said “Bring it in and let’s take a look.” (Those were their exact words.) So I did and they altered 4 of my jackets. And they offered suggestions on making them a bit more feminine. They had their women tailors measure me and work with me but the owners came in and offered suggestions as well. I love what they did. I love my jackets. For another jacket that was double breasted and a bit awkward on my short frame, I found a solution. I saw an asymmetrical jacket on a woman on television and knew that would work. I brought it in to Richard Bennett and described the style and they did it and that one is the most fabulous. We took off the second line of buttons and made the front with just one line of buttons that are not in the center but used the farther line of buttons. The jacket is stunning on me and I love it. Do I recommend Richard Bennett! Are you kidding? They gave me 4 beatufiul designer cashmere jackets for a fair and reasonable cost of alterations. If I could give them 6 stars, I would.

My husband and I have been going to Richard Bennet Custom Tailors in Chicago for over 10 years. Cathy is incredible at helping to put together a wardrobe for my husband keeping him in fashion and in perfectly fitting pants and shirts. I have also had custom shirts made for myself and they are worth every penny. As we now live in Arizona if we need anything, she goes through our file in shop, and sends us swatches and helps us long distance. Better than buying retail and then going for alterations.

Excellent service, quality is lacking. I had a few pairs of pants hemmed at this location. The service was fantastic and they turned around my pants quite quickly, were courteous, and professional! A couple weeks later, the hem came undone from one of the pant legs. I called them, explained, they agreed to take the pants back and fix them for free (Even though they no longer perform this type of service). Again excellent service. Well now a few weeks after that and the hem on the same pair of pants had broken free again in the middle of the work day. Absolutely ridiculous that this would happen after I already took the pants back to get them re hemmed. Great service, but obvious lack of attention to detail and quality. Will not be going back no matter how fantastic their customer service was.

When my wife and I decided to get married, being one of two brides, I knew I wanted to wear a white suit versus a dress to fit my taste and style. The challenge being female wanting to wear a suit was that I was looking for a feminine, sexy and sleek suit that fit my body and was age appropriate. I did not want to wear a men's suit as it's just not me. After searching online from other vendors and ordering dozens of suits my frustration grew rapidly. The pants fit but the jacket didn't or vice versa. The style made me look much older than I am. The waist was too high, etc. I came to the conclusion that if I wanted to look sharp on our wedding day and feel comfortable that I would just need to have a suit custom-made from scratch. The next challenge was calling around to various tailors in Chicago to learn that many of them do not specialize in custom-made women's suits. None of the other tailors we called were willing to take up the challenge of creating a women's suit. That all changed when we called Richard Bennett Custom Tailors. My now sister-in-law called Richard Bennett and spoke with Cathy explaining the challenge we were facing. While Richard Bennett is generally known for men's suits, Cathy was happy to take me on as a client. I got in to meet with her in-person within a few days to discuss my vision for what I wanted the final product to look like. Cathy reassured me that they could literally create anything I wanted. I communicated that I wanted a 3 piece suit: pants, jacket, and sleeveless vest acting as a shirt. I also provided pictures of what I wanted each piece to look like to see if they could replicate. She took the time to walk me through the different types of fabrics and we talked through accent fabrics to ensure that the final product popped and was very formal for the occasion. Once the fabrics were decided on the seamstress, Vikki, took all of my measurements and began her work on my suit. Over the course of a few months, Cathy and Vikki worked tirelessly to make sure that my final vision was executed perfectly. While my wedding suit journey initially started with a ton of frustration, I can't stress enough how happy I was with the final product from these very talented ladies. That final fitting where I got to see my suit in its finished state, I had a HUGE smile on my face. I received a ton of fantastic feedback at my wedding from guests on how stunning the suit looked. I firmly believe the hard work by Cathy and Vikki stole the show that day and I am so grateful to have had them! Thank you so much to Cathy, Vikki, and the Richard Bennett Custom Tailors team for making my day so special and perfect! I would recommend them to anyone!
