REVIEWS OF Tailor, Needle & Thread IN Illinois

I went to Tailor Needle and Thread for a suit for my dad and myself to wear to my wedding. I was nervous about the prices being too good to be true, but the quality was excellent! The tailoring is done in house by their master tailor Zim. The suits fit perfectly the first time and I have no doubt that Zim wouldn’t have let us leave without the suits being exactly right. If you are good to them, they will be good to you.

I recommend this tailor for wedding dress alterations. I made an appointment for alterations at David's Bridal only to discover they couldn't "touch" my dress because I didn't purchase it from their store. Therefore, they didn't make any money off of my dress, so they didn't want to alter my dress. I walked right into Needle and Thread without an appointment and they took great care of me. Avoid David's Bridal for alterations and try out Needle and Thread instead!

I find it ironic that people say it's pricey, but the craftsmanship is very good. I expect to pay good money for good craftsmanship. I always look like a million bucks in whatever I bring in to get altered. I trust these guys over any other place I've been in the area.

Tristan Talua

I definitely recommend this place! Zim is the best tailor in town!

Keven Bhangoo

I've been a customer here since 2014 and this place is amazing. Zim has tailored 2 suits, 4 pairs of pants, a shirt, and a wool coat for me and all of them have turned out perfect! I always l always leave dressed better than I arrived thanks to Zim and his staff!

They do Great work but pricey.

Absolutely amazing store. My fiance and I couldn’t find anywhere to measure us for our custom wedding cloths. Tailor, needle and thread did and didn’t even charge us. They were beyond sweet and professional! I highly recommend this buisness and my fiance and I will go there for our tailoring needs in the future!

Dan Nicholson

The very finest of fit and finish. Few others even come close.

Rachel Johnson

Zim was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond when I found myself in a time crunch. Their work is excellent! I would recommend them to anyone.

Kassi Fairgrieve

I brought in my wedding dress that no longer fit me just a few weeks before my wedding and couldn’t decide what to do with it. After a week of bridezilla craziness I decided to ask for the top of a new dress to be used with the bottom of my original wedding dress. I know, crazy.

Great work always!

Tailor Needle and Thread is your "One Stop Shop" for all of your tailoring needs. Zim and Jimmy are there for you whether you need a custom suit, shirt, tuxedo or alterations on that wedding dress. They are truly professionals and will not quit until you are completely satisfied with the work that you requested. Their work is perfect and their prices are reasonable. I highly recommend Tailor Needle and Thread!

Andy King

Overpriced for mediocre quality in terms of work performance. Brought in old jacket that no longer fit due to weight loss. After paying $90 and trying on jacket post tailoring learned that jacket still fit poorly. Response was that jacket wasn’t worth fixing....why wasn’t I told that in the first place! After review on yelp tailor offered to refund money (paid with credit card). But to date no refund, talk is cheap put your money where your mouth is

Have been taking my tailoring needs to them for years. They move every few years so I suggest calling them to find out where they are so you know where to park. As of July 2018, they are on the lower level branch of the mall entrance between Macys and Sears. They are very much worth finding.

Brad Fredericks

Excellent service, talented in their trade.

Chris Parker

Needed a sport coat tailored to shorten the sleeves slightly. They made the alterations quickly and it was impeccably tailored.

I would highly recommend this place to wedding parties. The suits are reasonably priced and they come with free alterations! The free alterations are what sold me. Also I ended up getting a great suit for less than I would pay at most designer stores. This place deserves your business!

They're awesome. Came in to get my pant legs hemmed and they did it in five minutes. They look great too. Highly recommended!!!

I was satisfied with the alterations done by them to my pants. Customer service was excellent and the work was done on time. Most importantly, Zim cared about the details and made sure the necessary changes were done to provide a good look and right fit. It is good to see that he insisted on getting the details right even when I was not as concerned. I would recommend them for their attention to detail and good customer service. They will make you look good.

I’ve been going to see Zim for all my tailoring needs for over 15 years. Not only does Zim take care of all the needs I have, they are done in a timely fashion. He provides excellent service and his work is outstanding. His work in the details of what I need. From simple items of shirts or jeans shortened to suits completely altered, everything fit to my needs. I’m the typical client who always needs last-minute work done and Zim manages to find a way to help me out in a pinch. A local business (and friend) that I will always support. Thanks for all you do!

Colleen Waters

Fantastic service and wonderful owner! Only place I'll go now!

Awesome experience here. Was in and out quickly for a small repair on a work sweatshirt.

I went here based on reviews. Brought in a suit to be tailored for my wedding. I have worked in the suit business before so I could catch something if it was questionable. They did all the proper markings and they did any alteration you really wanted. No appointment was needed and it was really fast. The only reason I bumped them down was the price of the alterations ($45 dollars for tailoring the sides versus $20 at men's warehouse). It took a $130 dollars to tailor one suit, which is about double what I usually pay for a 3 week turn around time. Just so there is an idea of all that was done to the suit I had the waist and seat taken in, the legs tapered, plain bottom hem, sides in on jacket and a raise back. I will follow up with another review based on what I receive back.

Can't recommend these people enough. Did great work and went to extraordinary lengths to help me out in a time of need. Reasonable prices too.

I came in to Tailor Needle & Thread at last minutes notice with the intention of having my suit tailored over the weekend. I needed it shortened and tightened to just the right fit since I'm a skinny guy. Not only was the price right, but this guy does some quality work, I can't even tell where the stitching was done or where he cut the fabric (not that I know how any of that stuff works), and it looked natural overall. The work was done in less than 2 days, over the weekend (probably one of the busiest times) Amazing work! I will be coming back in the future.

Very professional, they did a great job with alterations on a bridesmaids dress for my 8 month pregnant daughter. It was very difficult request because she was pregnant, but the dress looks perfect.

On Monday, Oct 16th around 7 p.m. I brought in a pair of Thom Browne pants to get a second alteration quote (hem/taper) after visiting another tailor. After the gentleman in the store started to hem to a "normal" pant break I told him that I would like the pants hemmed an inch above my ankle bone (classic Thom Browne style) a pant opening tapered to 7" and showed him a picture of another TB suit I wear. The look on his face was puzzled and skeptical. I asked his thoughts as I knew the judging reply I was about to get. His reply - "It's a fashion. I hope you aren't going to wear this to any job interviews" As we got into the fitting process I realized he was using a different technique I have not experienced with my other tailors. First he started by rolling up one of the pant legs to the amount I liked. (That’s fine). Then in giant fist sized numbers he wrote 7" and 1.75" (the taper and cuff size I wanted) on the pants - I asked what he was doing (as every tailor i've ever brought my clothes to has not marked this extensively with chalk - they pin it). He said he was marking so he knows how much to take the pants in. At this point I stopped the fitting process and changed out of my clothes. Before I left I asked if he was going to pin the pants or do the entire taper by marking them. He stated that he did not have to pin the pants. My reply was that he was tapering the pants from the hem all the way up through the seat and I did not think he would be able to alter the pants to the curve of my leg as much as required in this manner, additionally without pinning I have no idea what this alteration is going to look like. At this point he got extremely defensive/abrasive and stated how guys bring in their $6000 suits to have him work on them and they don’t tell him how to do his job, how disrespectful I was being, how since he makes suits from scratch he doesn't need to be told how to do his job, etc, etc." At that point I left as this was going nowhere. I was recommended to come here from a long time client of theirs - I can state unequivocally that I will NEVER take my clothes here and will turn people away from this shop when asked for tailoring recommendations. ————————————————————— The above review was posted originally on Oct 16th directly after getting home while the experience was fresh in memory. To add to the above: While I was in the shop I noticed a news article on the wall stating how it was a family-owned business. After leaving the Woodfield location I called the St. Charles shop where the father/owner was currently (7:34 pm). I relayed the above experience to him over the phone and he was extremely apologetic and asked me to bring my clothes to his shop so he could help me personally. I declined. After getting home the above review was posted around 8:30. About 45 minutes later at 9:16 I received a call from the father’s personal cell phone stating that I was lying in the review, that he believes his son over me (I am not sure what the son said), and followed with the threat of legal action if the review was not taken down within 24 hours. After discussing this matter with Google and mall management I have decided to repost the review along with what happened after leaving the Woodfield shop.

I’m so so so thankful I discovered Tailor Needle & Thread for my wedding dress alterations!! Zim altered my wedding dress and did an absolutely amazing job. My dress had a lot going on – between a ballgown and an A-line silhouette, it needed to be taken in in the bust, waist, and hip areas; there was a ton of beading that had to be redone when taking it in; I wanted to change the straps to make a different back neckline; and it had a multi-layered tulle skirt that had to be hemmed and bustled. From our first meeting, Zim was extremely kind and professional and didn’t think twice about the list of things I was telling him I wanted to alter. (Before I found Zim, I had gone to a different tailor in the area who made it clear she did not like my dress and challenged everything I said. Zim was the exact opposite, and I’m so grateful to him not only for his masterful tailoring but also for being so accommodating and such a joy to work with!!) I was amazed at the second fitting at how perfectly Zim had redone all the beading when taking in the bust and waist - it looked like the dress had never been touched! I had a couple more appointments to make sure all of the hemming, re-designing of the straps, and bustle were perfect. Zim is very detail-oriented, and he made sure everything was absolutely perfect. I’m so grateful to him for turning my dress into the dress of my dreams!! I highly recommend Zim for wedding needs – wedding dress/bridesmaid dress alterations and tuxes – and all other alteration needs! I wish we hadn’t already ordered tuxes before I met Zim because otherwise we would have ordered those with him too. His pricing was much better than the place we got tuxes from. I will definitely be going to Zim for all of my future alterations needs!!!!

Needed to cancel a tailoring on a pair of shorts, still have not recieved my refund that is nearly a month since the voided sale. The guy on the phone would not tell me his name after asking him multiple times. Piss poor customer service.

Trevor Folz

Awesome store for nice brands at affordable prices. Bought my first suit from them and they took care of me like family. I had an issue with the fitting after the first time I wore it and they took care of the adjustment free of charge. I will definitely be a returning customer. Highly recommend.

jim layhey

Very nice guys working there, they were friendly and do great work. I got a shirt fitted there and when I picked it up it was perfect and the price was reasonable to. Highly recommended, disregard this other reviewer with the one star he clearly is senile.

I do not think they are really overpriced ($15 for shortening a suit trousers) and the quality is the best of the best. I went there once and I am going to go there from now on for every tailor needs I might have

This place is amazing. Everyone I've talked to there is so friendly. My wedding dress was done in no time. Did a perfect job on it and also knew how to make it look/fit better when I wasn't even sure what would still need to be done. I will always be going back here for anything I need done!

Dario Bimbi

Great and friendly service. And at a great price.

Nate

Best tailor in town, prices are a bit steep. $20 for a hem. $30 for a leg taper. Unsure of costs for suits and stuff.

This was my 1st visit to Tailor, Needle, and Tread, but it will not be my last. I absolutely loved the treatment I received! Very professional, very helpful, and was willing to work with me on the cost. I highly recommend this business! Well worth the visit inside Woodfield Mall!

Good tailors are hard to find. This place was both good and hard to find. Hint: It's on the small middle level of Woodfield mall. Zim couldn't have been more professional and handled a challenging job like it was nothing. He walked me through the process, gave me a price up front, and delivered exactly as promised. We couldn't believe the amazing service we received! We'll definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place. Father and son owned, and all about service. They went above and beyond in every respect. I have found "my" tailor.

Ethan Reed

Easily one of the worst customer experiences of my life. The employee working there was incredibly abrasive and rude. We reserved my Tux rental and while we didn't have a receipt they didn't either! Instead of being apologetic and admitting that this was their fault the worker kept saying that it wasn't their fault only ours even though the credit card company confirmed that the purchase had gone through. The worker was constantly making a note of this and gave off a incredibly unnecessary agressive attitude and completely ignored me and put all the other customers before me. It was highly insulting and even though they might have cheaper prices compared to the competitors it's deffiently not worth it. I would rather shell out the extra money to go to a big chain store rather than go here again. The service is deplorable. I EVER write reviews but this place was so bad I had to.

I’ve been jumping from tailor to tailor for decades. I’d settle on someone, eventually get fed up with their failures and then repeat the process. Tailor, Needle & Thread finally pulled me out of that loop. They can perform any alteration and do exactly what you ask of them. Every item they’ve worked on ends up draping perfectly over my body. When you go with Tailor, Needle & Thread you are guaranteeing yourself a sincere, disappointment-free experience.

I have has two pair of jeans altered here, and both look as though they are straight from the store. This would be 5-stars, as the price charged is higher than I have paid anywhere else. But the end product is well done.

KelliAnn Lotrich

I forgot this place still existed, but glad it does. Courteous prompt service, reasonable pricing, AND they do have awesome custom men's suits and jackets, unlike run of the mill stores. Great experience

Osman Bahadarakhann

The workers there are very friendly and kind. I went in to get a pair of dress pants hemmed for a wedding, and the stitching on the legs of the pants are beautifully done. I'm very happy and satisfied with my experience.

ck419gv

I took two pair of jeans to be tailored with original hem and they turned out perfect. Definitely will be back for any tailoring I need in the future.

Kyle Knotek

Great work. Very professional and they are very kind. Was done in a very timely manner as well. Thank you!

Shannon O'Connor

The prices aren't the cheapest, but the quality of the work is impeccable.

Tyler Koch

Did a fantastic job with my jacket sleeve adjustment and the experience was fast and totally hassle free.

Gregory Mihok

Pretty expensive and takes about a week for alterations. However, they do a perfect job and thats all I care about

Carlos Alvarez

Lucky to find this place! I was in town for vacation, and needed a suit ASAP for an interview. They were willing to do the alterations quickly! Great service, hassle free, and quality products. Don't waste your time with other stores, just get it done here.
