After a recommendation from a co-worker, I took my fiancé to see Ed and have 2 custom shirts done. All we can say is WOW. Ed spent a significant amount of time with us to review all potentials for the shirts, made sure all measurements were perfect and when we received the custom shirts, we were nothing short of impressed. I recently purchased a custom suit from Ernesto's and could not be any happier with it. I wear suits to work several days a week. Also, I wanted a new high quality suit for a wedding I just attended, as well as for occassions surrounding my own upcoming wedding. Specifically, I was looking for a (uniquely) light blue suit - something several shades lighter in a midnight blue. I found some that I liked (but all lighter navy, nothing in the shade I was looking for) at the typical Center City stores. I've purchased shirts from Ernesto's in the past and tried there. First, the variety of fabrics is great. I found exactly the color I sought among a very good variety of fabrics and patterns. Besides the color, the fabric was high quiality. It is a subtle herringbone pattern, very tightly woven, so sturdy, without being stiff at all. Second, the price was in the range of the suits I found on the rack at other locations. Based on my own experience and Ernesto's reputation I committed to the suit right then. We spent about 30 minutes on measurements and we covered everything from the shape of the pocket flaps to the width of the lapels. I told Ed, who was great to work with, that I needed it within 4 weeks and I received it in 3. I have absolutely no complaints. The color and fabric are terrific - unique but still suitable for a corporate environment. But the fit was amazing. I typically spend fairly liberally to have an off the rack suit tailored but this just fit better and looked better on me than anything I've purchased before. Overall, I highly recommend Ernesto's. You get both a good looking suit and one that looks good on you, with the satisfaction of supporting a local family business that has been around for a while. I look forward to working with them again.

I have been a client at Ernesto's since 2008, and I use the term "client" loosely, because I feel like a member of the family. Ed and his team work very hard to make everyone's experience a true "custom" experience. Ed takes the time to learn your style and preferences, he will help you build pieces that work for you. He knows the industry trends, and knows which trends will fade quickly, and which styles are here to stay. He will give you the chance to try new, innovative approaches to fashion, but all of his looks will be timeless. If you are looking to rebuild your wardrobe, I can tell you that this man knows every suit and shirt in my closet, and literally helps me create and recreate my entire look. Now, I understand that experience isn't for everyone. I certainly never imagined it for me. When I first met Ed, I simply brought in two off the rack suits from Macy's for tailoring. He didn't push custom suits on me -- in fact Ed is the antithesis of a pushy salesman that one tends to find with Tom James and other companies. I find myself reaching out to Ed more than he reaches out to me. When it came time for me to graduate into custom clothing, I remembered my experience, and I gave Ed a call. I haven't looked back since... As for quality and craftsmanship, I have suits from 2009 that still look and fit like new. Why spend 3000 for a high end suit off the rack, when Ernestos has the same fabrics from Zegna, Loro Piana, etc. that will custom made to fit your body? People know the difference between the average Joe in the office and the man who looks like a million bucks... Whether you are in law or business, we all know that first impressions matter. Ed knows that too. And it was his first impression that made me a lifelong member of the Ernestos family...

I came to Ernesto's on a very short notice to build my wedding suit with only six weeks left to my wedding. Darren was confident and comfortable with the time frame and assured me that I'd have my suit in time. He took his time with me and went over every little detail from fabric type and color to button shape and size. Five weeks later with one week left to my wedding I get a call that my suit is ready. I tried it on and it fit me like a glove, I couldn't have been any happier with the outcome. Darren is a gentlemen and a craftsman. I'll be coming back for all my menswear needs.

Sorry! 1 star for over-charging. $50 to hem pants and let a back seam on a cheap little boy's suit. My fault for not asking, but still doesn't make it right. Can't afford it and now sick to my stomach.

For my wedding I wanted to wear something special so my brother-in-law recommened Ernesto. It was more than a pleasurable experience dealing with Ernesto and his two sons Ed and Darren who were very helpful and professional. Ed helped me narrow down the style, fit, and finish I was looking for with reassuring enthusiasm and accuracy. The suit he put together for me is incredibly tailored and beautiful! I wear it as often as I can and have neglected to wear my other off-the-shelf jackets for months because the one from Ernesto is so comfortable. Thank you Ed! If you are considering getting some bespoke clothing, I would highly recommend Ernesto!

if i could give them zero stars, i would have. Rude people. i wore sweat pants on my day off to order a custom shirt. they assumed I couldnt afford anything and kept talking down and reassuring me whatever options i showed interest in, i could not afford. I bought a $500 dress shirt. was not worth the money at all. The quality was not as described. the measurements were off. Will not be coming back ever. I wouldnt recommend this place. not even to my worst enemy. edit: 9-18-2018. definitely not a fake review. you guys are rude. judgemental, condescending, and RACIST

If you can marry old world charm with modern day flair, that’s Ernesto’s in a nutshell. Over the last six years, I have ordered 8 jackets, 3 suits (including my wedding suit), 10 pairs of pants and more than 30 shirts with Darren. And I can tell you that I love every single piece; because even when I didn’t, Darren would make it right. The quality, care, detail and pride behind his workmanship comes through in everything he makes and it is the reason I keep coming back. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough! NOTE: Ernesto’s is still located at 5th /South street, as it has been since 1960. I believe one of the brothers broke away to start his own shop in Cherry Hill. The original Ernesto’s is still where it always has been for 60 years: South Philly baby!

Ernesto's is not only the best custom tailor shop in Philadelphia, it may be the only true tailor shop left in the city. I had a custom pattern for a 3-piece suit made for me, based on a 1930s pattern system. The suit, naturally, is cut very differently from today's suits. Tailor shop after tailor shop refused to take on the project, because they had "their own system." What this means is that they work (as most custom/made-to-measure shops work) from pre-existing sized patterns ("slopers"). For the other shops I contacted, the work is done overseas, and so there is a limit to what they can and will do, merely adjusting their pre-existing patterns. Darren, at Ernesto's, readily agreed to take on this custom project, as his tailoring is all done locally, and he himself is a tailor who "cuts" and so he understands and can work with any patterns. Darren worked very patiently with me, working through all the details, making a mock-up suit (a "muslin") to ensure everything was right. The finished product is a work of art. It fits to perfection and has every detail just right. I cannot recommend Ernesto's highly enough -- if only there were more than 5 stars

I've had custom clothes made before, however my experience at Ernesto's was by far the best yet. The entire process, from start to finish, was top of the line and I was treated like a long time customer despite the fact that it was my first time shopping there. The entire staff was extremely friendly and helpful in guiding me through the process. They were beyond thorough with their measurements and provided useful insight when it came to choosing a pattern from their swatches. Their welcoming, and detail oriented approach speaks to the quality of the finished product, which looks, fits, and feels better than any of the custom clothes I've previously purchased. If you're looking a top notch experience and a high quality product, Ernesto's is the place to go in Philadelphia.

I went to Ernesto because of their stellar reputation, and many years experience in the tailoring business. Ed took me through the many different fabric choices and style options available. He helped me design a uniquely classic tuxedo with a modern twist. It fit perfectly! Hands-down the best tailor in the city! If you are looking for the best fit at a fair price, don't buy off-the-rack, go to Ernesto and get something that is made just for you.

I am unable to buy OTR suits due to my body type (48R jacket and 35 waist) and needed a suit for residency interviews... FAST aka 4 weeks. Most places require 6 weeks and would not guarantee to have the suit finished in time, but Ed at Ernesto's was willing to commit and even had the suit ready early!!! I really appreciate the education he provided and his patience through the process. The suit fits really well and looks great. I will be a return customer and recommend Ernesto.

The family at Ernesto has a passion for the finely appointed man that goes far beyond selling extraordinarily crafted clothing. They have an understanding of the human form, and a passion that combines to provide the client with a very individualized, personal, and memorable experience, and clothing that is of the highest quality. I have had clothing built by Ernesto’s since 2005, and they are currently building a suit, and six shirts as I write this review. I have continued to contract Ernesto’s for very simple reasons; Hand Made on Premise: You start by looking through fabric bolts, and they take the actual fabric you chose and cut it in their shop upstairs. Experience: If you want a true bespoke experience, Ernesto’s truly stands alone, and it’s not stuffy or pretentious. Personalized: If you want a small feature like a Contrasting Button Hole, Hacking Flaps, Ticket Pocket, No Waist Band, or any other feature imaginable, they can accommodate it, and they do it all the time. Value: You cannot buy an “off the rack” suit at Boyd’s or Neiman Marcus for what a full custom made suit from Ernesto’s costs. If you are considering a new suit, and think you should go to Boyd’s or Neiman Marcus to get the finest, I can tell you that they cannot come close to the quality and personality that will be built into your suit by Ernesto, and its no contest regarding value. You simply cannot find this rare combination of attributes anywhere else. Do yourself a favor, visit them one time, and you will be sold.

Ed and the team at Ernesto did a FANTASTIC job on my custom tuxedo for my upcoming wedding. From the measurements to suggesting fabrics/patterns/styles to the multiple alterations/fittings, I was thoroughly impressed by both the service and the ultimate product. For someone who doesn't fit well in an off-the-rack suit, I have certainly found my one and only tailor in Philadelphia and I plan on purchasing a few additional suits in short order. If you appreciate a well made suit that fits perfectly, do yourself a favor and head over to 5th and South so the guys can work their magic!
