My husband discovered Silvia's for me a few years ago and I will be forever grateful. I have had many dresses and gowns altered by her and her work is always impeccable. But, more importantly, is the number times she has saved me when I have formal events to attend. On many occasions I have purchased a last minute item online that I just "had to have" only to discover upon its arrival that alterations are needed. In fact, just yesterday (Tuesday) a beautiful beaded gown I had ordered arrived that I intend to take out of town on Friday for a military formal. Unfortunately the straps of the dress were too long for my short torso but otherwise the fit was perfect. My emergency call to Silvia was immediate. I drove to her store, put on the dress. She knew exactly what was needed. She pinned my dress in 10 seconds, and when I told her when I needed it, she was able to squeeze me into her very busy Prom season schedule and the dress is ready today (Wednesday). The point is that when one doles out money for quality clothing, one also wants a quality tailor if alterations are needed. And that is what you get at Silvia's Tailoring.

Sure enough, this place is wonderful! I've had alterations and hemmings done and am able to wear clothes that almost went to the Goodwill. So happy to have found this place.

I went to Sylvia's in metuchen many years ago .I was a metuchen resident for over 30 years. She was very arrogant it made me uncomfortable and she was expensive..I won a gift certificate to her store , but then I moved and for several months have been trying to find it..I did but it expired..I brought the gift certificates to her explained what happened and in the same arrogant voice and attitude would not honor them. I spent a lot of money to win them. I will not be going back to her..pearl cleaners has better customer service, nicer owners and they do great work at a better price and they are seconds away from Sylvia's shop..bad customer service there!!!

I've never had an experience with Silvia's that wasn't great. I've tried her patience a few times--I have an interview,/meeting/trip, could you hem these by the end of the day? Silvia finally looked at me and asked, Could you give us a few days lead time next time? She's fixed things I thought were irreparable. I always find Silvia a reliable and honest vendor.

Silvia's Tailoring was recommended to me by my coworker. Metuchen is far from where I live, but I needed my wedding gown altered by someone I could trust. My wedding gown was not a simple gown by any means and I was extremely nervous. From day 1 Silvia did an absolutely amazing job with my gown, she knew exactly what needed to be done so that my gown fit me perfectly in every way! I also needed something done to the illusion back I had, which I thought was impossible, but Silvia is a miracle worker and was able change what I needed, and I fell in love with my dress even more! This is a 5 star place (could be cleaner) but the work that is done is what matters most! Reasonable price, and I highly recommend to anybody who needs their wedding gown altered! Thank you Silvia, my dress was absolutely perfect!

Silvia has been putting zippers in my hand-knitted sweaters for years. I have moved to Texas and still send my sweaters back to her for the zippers. They are always beautifully done!

I had my wedding gown altered by Silvia, and the entire experience was wonderful. From day 1 she knew exactly what needed to be adjusted, and the dress fit perfectly. I had a few other dresses (a bridesmaid dress for another wedding, rehearsal dinner dress, and others) altered throughout the time I was getting my bridal gown done, and the experience with all of these was great as well. I was very impressed with her ability to immediately see what needed to be done to make each dress fit perfectly, before I even said anything! Also, she was able to connect me with someone to make a veil and hairpiece to match my gown, and they both came out beautifully. I would highly recommend!

Appalling business etiquette. I have never once written a negative review, but this experience pushed me too far. As a long time former resident of Metuchen, I have come to expect graciousness and fine customer service from local businesses. Neither is present at this business. Problems: 1) no estimate on prices for alterations at time of drop off (btw, VERY expensive). 2) I had to call after pieces were more than one week overdue for completion. 3) when I came in (20 min drive away) to pick up, I was told - only after I asked to try the garments on - that I would have to wait 45 min because they only have one dressing room and there was a bride with a reservation. When I indicated that I couldn't stay that long and that it would have been nice if someone had told me I needed to reserve a time to try on my clothes, she curtly said she only does that for brides and acted like my request was unreasonable. She turned back to another customer, ignoring me. Several other rude remarks from her not even worth repeating, but note that this was the owner! Consider yourselves warned.

Silvia is nasty! I have been there a few times now.. I keep going back because it's close and I was recommended but she is just rude rude rude. I went in and was very nice and brought some thing to be altered and she is pricey!...but I'm willing to pay if I can save some of my favorite items. But even if ur making her $$ she is nasty! So she told me my things would be done in a week so I called in a week. No answer.. leave no vm.. I call back she tells me We Call U!! And they r not done yet! So harshly.. still waiting for my call back... in the mean time my friend called to inquire for something to be done... let's just say Silvia's lack of friendliness lost her another customer!

SILVIA IS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! The place is filthy, unorganized, and hot because the air conditioner was broken and has a very foul odor (not good for clothes). I took in clothing to be altered and she completely ignored me for 25 minutes. While I was patiently waiting, I asked her if she wanted me to come back another time and she replied "I am almost done" in a very rude tone while she was cleaning the counter. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP!!

Silvia gave careful thought to each detail and I appreciated her patience with my indecisions/questions. She also accommodated us on a Sunday when she is normally closed so we could have the dress appointment without the normal business traffic and in order to have everything done in time. I highly recommend her!

Do not waste your time with this place. I needed the hem fixed on my jeans. After dropping it off I was told it would take about 2 weeks and they would call me. A month passed and nothing. I drove back to pick it up, of course it was not done. I was told it's a busy season. I'm fine with that, but don't take new orders if you can't finish on time. They don't bother to answer phones either. Very bad service.
