When I arrived to my appointment, Berna was very friendly, as all others have said. I'm also sure, based on other reviews, that Berna is a talented seamstress, & would be a suitable tailor to go to if you have a complicated dress and/or aren't worried about a budget. Communication is not her strong suit, however, and she is not as competitively priced as people think she is. While I take full ownership in making an assumption her prices would be fair based on reviews, & never having alterations done before, allowed her to proceed with pinning & cutting my dress without a detailed discussion - there is a lot to be said about how she handled the situation that unfolded. After I was dressed, she quoted $350 for a very simple job on a very simple dress. This was notably higher than what I'd been told to expect. Her personality changed completely when I asked her to hold off on going further until I talked with my mother, as we hadn't budgeted that much for my alterations. When I found more fair quotes elsewhere (not including her old partner Anita), I returned that evening to ask Berna what we could change to bring down the price, not actually wanting to have wasted an hour & a half of either of our time. Ultimately, we couldn't come to something I was satisfied with so I told her I'd have to go elsewhere & pay her the $50 fee. The way she then treated me was unacceptable & totally opposite from earlier that afternoon - this lady made me feel so terrible for being on a budget (which she was aware of early on) that I was brought to tears by the end (for which she allowed me to keep the $50 as an apology). She was petty, bitter, & seemed to take my inability to afford her services quite personally (though assured me I wasn't the first bride to be in this situation with her). I was able to get the alterations I wanted for only $195, and Edith cut & repinned everything in a third of the time it took Tailored to You. I hope Berna has taken my advice to be more upfront about pricing before making significant changes in the future, but regardless, you should discuss this upfront with her should you choose her.

When I was looking for a tailor for my dress I was still new to the area and really had no idea what direction to go as my dress was purchased from a MN bridal shop. I found Berna, and I am beyond ecstatic that I had her alter my dress! I’m pretty self-conscious about how I look, and she was incredibly patient with me throughout the process. She even went out of her way to replicate the beading on my dress with the sleeves she made. I left feeling like royalty and ready to rock our wedding this month. Berna just recently altered my wedding dress. I couldn't have imagined how beautiful it would look, and she is so thoughtful and wonderful to deal with. I needed my dress taken in a good bit and it needed a whole new zipper in addition to having it hemmed and the empire waist position fixed. She also took on this project two weeks before my wedding. I knew my wedding dress needed a lot of work since I am a petite person and knew my dress would be complicated to fix because it has a lot of lace and embellishments. I was afraid to let just anyone fix my dress. I drove an hour just to go to Berna and it was so worth it. I could not believe the transformation. My dress fit perfectly!

I was quite excited to have Berna alter some pants for me, especially after reading all the good reviews here. After a month without her getting back to me like she said she would, I messaged her today stating that I understood she was very busy - and if she couldn't get to me, did she have someone she could refer me to? She replied immediately with no apology or explanation and said I could call Anita's Fine Tailoring. Not a great way to do business. I am a big and tall guy who could have provided her with some frequent, likely very easy, no-rush jobs. Evidently she does not have time for small jobs and does not care to lose that business. If you choose her, I hope you have better luck with her than I did.
