REVIEWS OF Kim's Alterations IN Alaska

Back in 2003, I took my wedding dress here. It needed to be hemmed up for length and let out some in the bodice. They told me when they would have it ready: the day before my evening wedding. Nobody showed up at the shop for our meeting time. I called her all day, all night, and into the next day (my wedding day). When she finally responded, I only had less than four hours until my wedding, and I was trying to get my hair and makeup done while thinking I might not have a wedding dress for my wedding. When she finally showed up, the dress had been hemmed for length, but the bodice that was let out left strings hanging and ... it was just ridiculous. I had to keep my arms down so people couldn't see. This should have been discussed way before my wedding day if there were an issue. I was required to pay for it otherwise I'd have been facing legal fees, too. Don't go here unless you have a lot of time and want to trust someone who made someone else's wedding day an obstacle to get through instead of a joyous occasion. EDIT: The owner, as you can see, below, remarks, "15 years ago? Maybe you should have said something at the time. Perhaps after your honeymoon." In response to that, I'd like to point out: 1.) Perhaps service providers who complain that a criticism was made too late should be on time themselves. Luckily, consumers at least have the benefit of sharing and reading reviews of poor service. It's a positive thing that tentative customers are able to be forewarned of sub-par business practices. Based on the reviews, here, it appears I'm not the only customer who was left paying for shoddy work, or picking up work on a day other than the day the service provider agreed to have the work ready. The service provider has set a precedent of not being able to meet the terms of her contracts. 2.) After failing to accomplish what a service provider tells the consumer she will do, it is amusing that the service provider should then advise the consumer on how the consumer should have remedied the situation. The responsibility is on the service provider to do what she said she'd do. As the consumer, I met my obligations. I was there to pick up the dress the day before my wedding, as she instructed. The business was closed. I called her many times that day because my wedding was the next day. She did not return any of my calls that entire day. The service provider did not get back to me until the following day, FOUR HOURS BEFORE MY WEDDING. The consumer ... THE BRIDE ... on her wedding day, spent time trying to force the service provider to make good on the contract, and then, the service provider was paid. I think I went far beyond my due diligence. The service provider was negligent. And disrespectful. 3.) The service provider now suggests I should have taken the matter up with her after my honeymoon. In what world must she live in, advising me what I should have done after she screwed up? Sure, I could have showed up after the honeymoon and tried to recoup the expense, but that money would not have remedied how she affected my wedding day. Karma will take care of that. What a shame it is that the service industry is rife with people expecting to make a living off selling us services they are unable to successfully deliver.

Kim's Alterations has been great! She is very accurate on her time frame and very reasonably priced on anything I have taken to her. Very Recommended for anything you need altered.

Jackie Henson

Ruined a dress that needed minor adjustments. Had to go up there 7 times in a 5 day span. after she ruined it had to go to hobby lobby and buy some material to salvage her mistake then she charged 60 dollars. Never use this women she is terrible. Any person with experience would have had this done in 1 to 2 hours. Very unprofessional.

We have taken items to Kim for decades because she is a great tailor and very nice person. However, she seldom has any item ready in a timely manner. It usually takes 2 - 5 attempts to pick up a finished item before it is done. She often reduces the cost of a tailoring job because of her delay.

Kim has more than failed me. I dropped a leather coat with a single rip in the armpit, and a canvas gi top with a ripped cloth tie. She suggested that it would take her about a week to fix, and assured me she could match the original sewing lines of the uniform. I was busy the weekend she came to pick it up, so I came in two weeks later instead. She had not yet even started on them. She apologized profusely saying that the upcoming prom had swamped her with dresses that somehow got priority over my items. I was then swamped with work for weeks. Another 4 weeks passed, and I went in certain I'd left her holding the finished product for weeks now. When I came in, she remembered who I was, and told me they were not yet ready. SIX Weeks, and she hadn't even started on my items. I will never return, and will advise everyone I know not to go there either.

She was able to hem some pants for us the same day. I doubt she can always bump other jobs like that, but her willingness was so appreciated!

First off I would like to say that this place doesnt even deserve 1 star but thats not an option. My sister n law took her wedding dress here to be altered over a month before the wedding. She called several times to get a hold of her to see if her dress was finished and could never get through. Finally she just went up there to pick the dress up and everything was screwed up! Also keep in mind this is a week from the wedding. She cut the bottom of the dress all uneven and it was all jagged, there was all different types of loose thread attached to the dress along with twigs (where in the heck those came from.. i dont know) but obviously it was dragged along the floor, the zipper was broken on the dress and was never fixed, the train of the dress was all folded and scrunched up and then looked like it was sat on, my sister n law bought a beaded ribbon belt for the dress that was well over $100 dollars and told her to stich it to the front of the dress.. well she cut the ribbon off completely and told my sister n law to just glue it on, last but not least, a couple pieces of the lace on the dress was snagged and she told her to just twist the snag and it would be fine. Why is Kims still in business??? Does she not understand that this is a WEDDING DRESS not a play dress up dress? This is a once in a lifetime event and now the bride has to worry about her dressed being messed up because someone doesnt know how to do their job! Absolutely horrible business!

Took my items in and got a quote and when I picked them up it was much more than was quoted. My bad for not looking at items before I took them home , had to return one because job wasn't finished . I have tried this place two times and both times I was disappointed. 2 times will be good enough. Good day!

Gina Teevan

Always there when you need her!

Charlie Vanderslice

Been using Kim's for almost 15 years. I highly recommend her but she is a small business so you need to plan ahead and give proper lead time to get your alterations done.

Lindsey Ledford

She altered my wedding dress and it came out perfect!!

Shawn Fitz

She is from Korea, so sometimes her accent is difficult to understand but she is ALWAYS cheerful and I love her work!! Yes once she was very late on a dress for my daughter, but she ended up doing it for free just because she knew she ran behind. Highly recommended.

Timothy Smith

Needed my suit altered for a job interview and she did an amazing job on it. Was done when I requested it with time to spare. Will no longer be using the "boxed" stores like Jos A Bank.

DropsOfOrchid

I took my prom dress up there to be altered 2 weeks before prom and she told me it would be done the week of prom on tuesday. When I went up there to get it she hadn't even started. All I needed was an inch shortened/hemmed. Then, she wanted to charge me $76 for a VERY uneven job. This is the 2nd time she hasnt done her job on time for me.. Dislike her service very much.

Jaye Dietz

Great job had a new zipper put in a backpack! !!

Molly Mathias

Can’t say enough good things about Kim! She does amazing work every time! I’ve taken several formal dresses there and now the most recent was my wedding dress. She was able to do all the alterations just as i wanted. And she is the sweetest person!

Tayla Winegardner

Quick and skilled

Emily Lewis

These guys are wonderful! I had them move a zipper on a dress that didn't fit quite right. It came out great, and I really appreciated their warm and friendly customer service. Anything I need altered in the future, I'll definitely bring to Kim's. Thanks!

S P

Horrible! Took a month to fix 1 dress. On my pick up date she hadn't even started my dress. She then had rushed and the stitching was horribly looking. You could see the stitching she didn't match the color or even try to make it look nice.
