The dressing area is to small. General cleanliness was not very good. I had the spa sampler package and was booked for the very first appointment so no time to use the steam room before or in between services. My last service was a pedicure which it’s recommend to get dressed prior due to you have to walk through the general salon area. So it wasn’t convenient to use the steam after my spa package either unless I was to get undressed again.

Update: Dosha offered me a redo massage with someone who would do more relaxation and she was excellent - I think her name is Emma. My therapist was nice for sure but she treated it more like a physical therapy appointment even though I was looking for a relaxing massage. She spent a good amount of the time talking and not touching and so I felt like I didn't get nearly close to my full time on the table.

Emma was great! I enjoyed my session very much! She listened to what I wanted to accomplish in my session and got me there. I don’t mind the coed changing and grooming space but it’s so cramped that my friend and I and the only other person using the space had to dance a bit to get out of each other’s way. I was also surprised that there was not a body lotion provides. Lastly, there was a large bubbling spot on the ceiling that looked a little dangerous to stand under.

I have been going to the Hawthorne Dosha for years and have always had a great experience. My last two visits, however, make me never want to return. My usual master stylist moved away. It was sad as he was fantastic. He knew how to make even a quick haircut feel like you were being pampered and always gave a great experience along with a great cut/color/style. My first cut after he left was with a less experienced stylist, so I didn’t expect the same level of experience or service. HOWEVER. My appointment was at 7pm. At 7, the stylist informed me she was running a little late and would be another 10 minutes. That was totally fine by me. FIFTY minutes later she was ready to start my cut. She laughed about how the previous client decided she wanted her hair curled and felt bad making me wait. The stylist told me she said to the previous guest “she seems cool, don’t worry about it”. Then...after she was done with my cut, I noticed one side was significantly longer than the other (not in the cool 90s new wave way). I asked her, politely, if she could even it up a little. Her response: “ you have more hair on that side, so it’s kind of hard”. That’s like saying I can’t fix your mullet because your hair is longer in the back. My last appointment was with a master stylist. I have no idea how this person got that title. Like NO IDEA. Awful color, awful cut, awful experience. I had to ask to have my hair dried (I have short hair, it doesn’t take more than 3 minutes to do) and there was no offer of the standard hand or neck massage until I had my coat on. Here’s to hoping this was a fluke, times two, and that the service at Dosha isn’t going downhill this quickly. If you’re new to Dosha, don’t spring for the master stylist...NOT worth it anymore.

Do not go here!! They will schedule for one time and then call you an hour or less before your appointment to cancel. Then call you at the time of your appointment to tell you that you didn’t show. When you call to reschedule and explain the situation, they say it does not matter. They schedule for an appointment on a different day you say, it goes on like this for a while. I guess scheduling is difficult for some. And once you finally get an appointment on the day you show up and boom its a completely different time. I don't know how they are able to stay in business. They waste people’s time that it is amazing to me that they would even have clients. Again, don’t waste your time!! There are so many other places to go to for the exact same services they offer.

I was booked from 9:30-11:30 Facial plus two add ons at 25 each I was 15 min late so I wondered if I’d lose out of an add on which would have been fine, my fault. I was done at 11:05. Next time I can put lotion on my own feet and hands and keep the 50 dollars. The facial was great but the add on was bs in my opinion

And she was very disappointed. I’d love to reschedule her to see if he can recreate the look and make it more permanent. The cost certainly would justify this. Thank you.

Left after waiting 20 ish minutes with no check in from staff I might have waited longer, but after spending 20 minutes noticing the uncleanliness, lack of attention to detail, outdated everything- I came to the disappointing realization that my go-to place, my most favorite spa in the world was a lost relic, a dusty old memory of 2011 when it was kept up, clean, updated and the customer service was on par with their price point. I'm less bummed that I hired a babysitter for nothing, and more heartbroken that this place has gone so downhill.

What is wrong here? I am not Joe I am Mary. I want you to know that Imelda at Hawthorne is the best nail tech that I have ever had. I am 79 and have had pedicures for many years with many different nail techs. When I found Imelda that was it. I drive to Hawthorne even though I live in Vancouver because of her. If your management chooses to let her go, you will be letting me and several of her clients go as well I am sure. On many occasions I have seen excellent employees leave a position because of bad management. There is often regret after the fact but it is too late. I have been going to Dosha for two years now, I go to the SE Portland location on Hawthorne. The styles I have seen has been amazing, she has always given me the best cuts and colors I have ever gotten, and she is tons of fun to chat with during my appointments, this review is not a reflection on my stylest. However, since I started going to Dosha I moved to Vancouver, I had always had a good experience so I would make the 30-minute drive (that is if there was no traffic) to get my hair done. I made my first appointment on their website for an 11:00 am hair cut. I received a confirmation email that the appointment had been made for 11:00 am and showed up right on time for the appointment. Upon arrival, I was told that my appointment had been moved to 10:45 am and that I could no longer be seen because I was to late. I was told that they had left me two voice messages that the appointment had been moved however I never received any voice messages. I never received an email or text notification of the change in my appointment either. I was not offered any sort of compensation and apparently the appointment after mine was more important to honor then mine. Overall I feel totally burned and really disappointed that this is how a faithful customer would be treated. I am sad to leave my stylist because she was really wonderful but this really isn't professional behavior on Dosha's part. I think it was importunate to change my appointment for an earlier time without ever actually talking to me or confirming with me that I had received the information. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Overall very disappointing, and I would encourage others to think twice before booking with them especially online.

I have been coming to Dosha spa for years. I always ask for gift certificates for my birthday and always recommend them to anyone looking for spa services. But, not anymore. In the last 2 years my massage therapists come and go. My last two appointments were a swedish and deep tissue and I must say were no different from each other. My massage therapist was obviously coached to recommend more expensive services. In the past this was never an issue as my swedish certificate was used toward any massage service and I just paid the difference. And why not? When it is recommended for your health?Today, I was put on the spot and told that the policy had changed and certificates could not be used as the value they represent, therefore, they would not honor what they've done in the past. Even though there was no warning of such a huge change "non-transferable." So disappointed that a business no no like this could occur and will not be recommending them or requesting them again. Unfortunately, I still have 4 massages left.

Booked couples massage for wedding anniversary but when therapists greeted wife and I to walk us back to room they took us to separate rooms. I let them know we had booked couples massage and they said it wasn't on their schedule that way. My therapist let the manager know and when we checked out I left the front desk person know. She barely acknowledged the error. Don't think we will go back. My massage was very good - I would give the therapist 4 *s for that service. My wife's massage was subpar - giving her therapist 2 *s.

Overall, I was not pleased with my visit here today. I had a series of 3 services that I had carefully scheduled over the phone. I was using a gift certificate I had received in November from some friends. My Swedish massage was first, and while I had scheduled the massage to last until 10:30, the massage therapist ended the massage at 10, which made it a roughly 30 minute massage. So instead of a carefully planned 45 minute break until my tulasara facial, I now had over an hour. Which might have been okay, had some of their other services offered been appealing. The soaking pool had hair and other particles floating in it. The steam room was out of order entirely. Which left me sitting in their "lounge" which really just felt more like no more than a doctors office waiting room. The facial I got next was the highlight of my visit, and the only reason I gave this visit 2 stars instead if one. After my facial, I still had another hour before my pedicure, so I decided to go get lunch nearby, and on my was out I gave the front desk my gift certificate to hold onto, at which point the girl told me their prices had gone up for 2 out of 3 of the services I was receiving that day since the gift certificate was purchased, and I would be responsible for paying the difference. I do NOT think this was right, and even if it was okay, I should have been given this information BEFORE receiving the services for which I would be paying extra for. I might even understand a little more if I was using an old gift certificate, but it was barely 6 months old. Dosha should have honored the prices for the services from the time they were purchased. This would have been good customer service. If I had purchased a gift certificate for spa services for a friend and then discovered they were asked to pay more that I paid for on their behalf(not counting tips), I would be horrified and embarrassed. Overall, the spa experience here was highly disappointing. It was not clean (hair in the drain, sink dirty), and clearly needed repairs. I did not feel comfortable or enjoy my experience.

Spa and staff were nice. Though the steam room was down.. My facial was a little disappointing. I know this is a holistic more organic venue, however, it felt like I paid for a mask and some light rubbing on my face with steam towels. My pores remain clogged, my skin didn't feel different or look it for that matter. She said no extractions were needed, though I have several white heads. Next time I would just go buy a nice mask from Aveada and save myself the money.

We could not have been more disappointed in the cut and color. Huge highlight streaks that looked like they were pulled through a swim cap with a crochet needle. Bleached to the point they looked like skunk streaks. The “copper” color was darker than the original hair and did not “lighten up” as the stylist said it would (and which we knew it wouldn’t). I would say you get what you pay for, but in this instance the price was much higher than the quality of work. We will skip all the locations and find a colorist better than this one here who was sold as “the most experienced and qualified.” That is a sad reflection of their workforce.

Thomas ALWAYS does an excellent job - I have been very lucky to have him as my hair guru for a number of years now (at least 5 I think, more?) - sadly he told me he is leaving his position at this location - which is a HUGE loss to this salon. I'm so glad we have become friends - he will be missed. As for the salon itself - great location and all of the staff are very friendly. I will definitely continue to go there with the proper recommendation from Thomas as to who I should see. Thomas' cut & color work is first rate and whoever does my hair next will have very big shoes to fill. Recommended!!

I was a little disappointed that the steam room has been out of order (the last two times I have been there their steam room has been out of order) which is a feature I really appreciate about this location. The tea was luke warm and was not refilled while I was there for about 3.5 hours which was also a little disappointing. Overall though, I really enjoyed my visit and look forward to returning soon.

However I know %100 that anyone at this location will be able to give you what you are looking for. It's a beautiful place, full of lovely people and you will walk out felling like a million bucks!!!! It's more than a hair cut, it's confidence that puts extra pep in your step! My experience with Brain is he will listen to what you are looking for and give you honest feedback so that your hair comes out even better than what you were looking for. They are professionals for a reason!

Super disappointed with Dosha Hawthorne. I had come to this location years ago and had a great experience. Unfortunately this time, was not a good impression. It's old and tired. In desperate need of a good cleaning. How about some pillows that aren't stained? Is that chocolate or hair dye? The ripped chairs, dirty and dusty fireplace were unbecoming. There was a leak coming from a pool (I suppose) on the second floor dripping water onto the floor with a couple of towels down on the floor to sop it up. Maintenance guy was looking at it as I tried to pass him as it was over head. One of the girls reeked of cigarettes, obviously just coming off of a smoke break. I'm supposed to be relaxing here... :( I came in for a pedicure and the front desk seemed overwhelmed by the amount of people in line. I checked in late because of this. I waited 15 minutes before going back up to let them know I was still waiting. Finally my poor stressed out nail tech came and got me and hurriedly walked to the pedicure station. Seriously, I'm here to relax and now I can feel this overwhelmed woman's stressed out vibes. Not her fault. She's very polite but obviously overwhelmed and because she was running behind my pedicure ran short. She didn't let the polish dry in between coats and even after 45 minutes my toes weren't dry. I had another appointment soon after and wore the flip flops on the way to the appointment to allow my toes extra time to dry.. unfortunately, when I got home my toes were all smudged and I had to take it off and paint them myself. What an overall terrible experience. I won't be back. Dosha, you need to to improve your Hawthorne location and overhaul everything in your "SPA"... and perhaps customer service training would help. No one wants to by pass a DOSHA employee that smells like an ashtray. Gross. Not relaxing in the slightest bit. SO VERY DISAPPOINTED.

The model in the photo had thicker hair than mine. Tia expertly knew this and whipped my fine hair into the desired hairstyle with her mastery. Definitely coming back!

I have several services and all of them were great. I rated it 3 stars because 1) the dresssing room was co ed and they didn’t let you know this before. It was also very cramped around the lockers. 2) the soak pool and the sauna are also co ed and you need a bathing suit of which I was not told about. 3) the whole building was so cold!

I have seen Amber for waxing and facials since I moved to Portland in 2007. This year, I also had her do a makeup application for me before a special night out. Any service Amber provides is top notch. She is quick and thorough with waxing and is great at helping my unruly brows have a nice shape. Her facials are to die for. So relaxing and leaves my skin feeling and looking great. She has recommended some great skincare products for me too. Aside from her years of experience and expertise as an aesthetician, she is gentle and kind. She goes above and beyond to make every appointment comfortable and to exceed expectations. I was surprised when the manager called me and offered me a complimentary re- do due to my dissatisfaction. I went back and experienced the type of service I have had in the past. My complaint was never with the therapist rather the conditions. I appreciate their offer to make it right. Still wish the steam room was functional. I’ll go back! Have been here numerous times and have always enjoyed the experience. This time, disappointed that steam room was out of order. Was looking forward to using it. There were empty massage rooms but I was put in one where I could hear the client and therapist talking and laughing in another room which may have been behind a curtain. When I asked my therapist she explained the room was usually used for couples massages. When I went to pay using a gift certificate I was told I owed a balance since their rates went up. I pushed back since the coupon doesn’t state that nor does it have an expiration date. Not my best visit but I’ll go back.

I never write reviews but Celeste Insua at the Hawthorne Dosha knocked it out of the park. I cannot shut up about her because - best hair cut I have gotten in my life hands down. IF YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR THIS IS YOUR HAIR DRESSER FOR LIFE. If you don't, still your hairdresser because if she can cut my hair she can certainly handle yours. As you can see from the photo I have very thick curly hair. It is all sorts of textures and I have learned from the number of bad hair cuts I've gotten that it's difficult to cut. When I book an appointment I am usually hoping it simply comes out not all effed up. This lady has mad skills. Celeste did not make me feel picky and was super understanding about all of my concerns. She delivered EXACTLY the hair cut I wanted and made my hair come out looking better than eva before. If you need proof look at the picture. She's a fricken hair genius. I will never let anyone else cut my hair again. Not to mention she has a great personality. You won't know if you want her to cut your hair or be your wife. Could a review really get any better?

Please read for specific details for my rating. Booking appointment: 1 star I called the central phone number to make an appointment, I was scheduled for an appointment for 5:15pm at the Hawthorne Dosha, checked in on time with the ladies at the front desk and then proceeded to wait 30+ minutes. I went back to the desk to inquire if my appointment was still going to happen or if there was an error. It turned out that central booking had made the appointment not knowing that the stylist had an appointment with more services going on before my appointment. They were able to get a stylist to cut my hair at 6:00pm. 45 minutes later. The stylist: Alexis was awesome. She was a sweet heart and made my hair look great, I got a lot of compliments from people! She massaged my scalp, gave me a relaxing shampoo and used these products that made my usual fine, sad hair, fluffy, shiny and bouncy. She also taught me how to make trendy waves in my hair with a straightener, she deserves 5 stars for being highly skilled, super sweet and essentially saving the day. The price of my haircut was very reasonable, especially for a place like Dosha. The salon spa is very nice, modern and chic, smells great. It’s a place that inspires relaxation except if you are me, evidently. Overall, I like Alexis enough to possibly go back for another hair cut but I loathe the central booking system. It’s just difficult to know what is really going on if you aren’t physically at the location, getting updated info more regularly. I was told by the assistant manager to email my complaint and suggestions to an email, which I did on Monday. It’s Wednesday and I haven’t got a response at all. Based on whether I get an email or not may determine whether I go back. Alexis is great, I just can’t say the same for booking an appointment or emailing people in corporate. Very disappointing.

Dosha Hawthorne is my favorite spa. I enjoy the many amenities they offer. One reason I use this location is their steam room. It allows me to relax before getting on with my day. The room has been broken two out of the last three times I have made appointments. I would have rescheduled if I was informed while making my reservation.

I have been to this location a few times over the years, as many have said it’s the place to go. Seems like each time it is a little less polished. It didn’t have the total “spa experience” feel. The interior feels a little tired. Almonds on the floor that several employees walked right over them not bothering to pick them up. Water spilled all over countertop and just left there. Loud talking in the massage area. Music from downstairs heard in the quiet waiting area upstairs. This particular visit I was placed in a small back room that appeared to once be a closet; not as appointed as the rest of the rooms. Not a big deal, but it just let a little air out of the balloon, so to speak. Don’t get me wrong, I did come out of there totally relaxed. It is still a lovely spa and I will continue to visit periodically.

UPDATE: Follow up on the eyebrow fiasco below. After several phone calls Dosha Hawthorne has provided me with services to rectify this issue. I’m happy to report AMBER did an amazing job rehabbing my brows! I look forward to seeing her again. Originally I gave 2 stars but poor management response leads me to delete one. Why? Because comping a person for a poor service isn’t really any kind of compensation. It’s like being given the meal that gave you food poisoning free- Gee, thanks a lot! I’ve come here regularly for years to have my brows waxed and have had great experiences with the 2 aestheticians I’ve seen. Both have left. Today I told Olivia I like my brows full with a lower arch ( this is also noted on my client card). We discussed how the fuller brow is popular etc. So you can only my surprise and horror when I saw the narrow , thin brows she gave me. This is what might fly in West Linn but in PDX we love a fierce brow. Cannot convey my disgust! Now I have to spend time filling in and will need to go more often to deal with the grow out. So, this s*#+%y job is costing me money! Geeze, get the girl some stencils!

I love the design of the spa area at Dosha Hawthorne, but it is in need of some maintenance- there were spots in the shower area that looked moldy, the jets weren’t working in the hot tub, and finishes look a bit beat up in the changing area. I’ve had great massages and facials here, and the customer service is wonderful.

2 months ago I booked a day spa package for my best friend and I. At the time of booking, I was told that there weren’t 2 makeup artists available to do the full package. And I said, “you are telling me that you can’t get a second makeup artist in with 2 months in advance?” So we had to book separate make up appointment times. Whatever. Then this morning, on our way to our appointment for our spa day, they called 30 minutes before to let us know that a massage therapist had called in sick and so only one of us could get the massage. Obviously that wasn’t a good option for us, so we opted to reschedule just the massage part for 2 weeks later. The services were sub-par, for a lot of them. Overall, it wasn’t the best experience. Parts of it were. Her facial was amazing. Our hair girls were great. My makeup girl was awesome. The rest, meh. Disappointed in our experience for sure.

I scheduled an appointment for my wife and they didn’t mention their very strict wait policy. If you are even one minute late they will not serve you. There is no way to contact the salon to say we are on our way and to reduce my wife’s work to a simple task that would only take about half the time. The stylist left right after we arrived and refused to serve us.
