My mother, sister, a dear friend and I went to the Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat for facials and relaxation in celebration of my mother's birthday. Our afternoon at the spa was absolutely incredible. Danielle took fabulous care of us in the facial room and Dara made us feel so at home and relaxed in the rest of the spas areas. We cycled between the infrared sauna and steam room, enjoyed quiet time in the tranquility room and on the lovely deck, and were able to take showers and freshen up before (begrudgingly) rejoining "the real world." I cannot recommend the Spa and Day Retreat more highly to those in our area looking for a personal, relaxing and healing spa experience! It's absolute perfection.

This was the first spa I've been to with beautiful natural light- it was so peaceful, warm, bright, and sunny. I felt like I was relaxing in the middle of the forest, but with a soft robe, fuzzy socks, and delicious chocolate covered pretzels. They give THE BEST prenatal massages... seriously, I've now gotten two and those 120 minutes have the best of my entire pregnancy.

What a gem. I was totally surprised by this place - mostly just looking for a massage but got so much more. It truly is a retreat center with a focus on spiritual wellbeing and mind-body connection I think with plenty of opportunity for relaxation and reflection.

My friend booked me a spa with Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat for May 26th 2019. When I arrived, I asked to confirm that the payment went through since when you register for your appointment, they take your card information. NOWHERE on the website does it say that you are not charged for the appointment. The lady at the desk told me that the payment did NOT go through. Since it was a gift from a friend, I declined services because I didn't want to stiff the masseuse. I asked the woman at the desk at Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat what I should do. She apologized for the inconvenience and told me the following: I would be able to reschedule this appointment since it was a misunderstanding. That the owner of the place would call me to work out that reschedule. That I would not be charged since I did not take the appointment. Today, I was notified that they charged $60 despite what they told me at the desk. I called up Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat and a very rude woman, who called herself the manager, picked up and said that it was my fault that there was a misunderstanding and that she didn't care what the woman at the front desk had to say, policy is policy. She questioned my ability to comprehend English, which is incredibly off-putting as English is my second language but I speak it perfectly and fluently. When I tried to recap what she was telling me, to make sure we were both on the same page (since she was telling me one thing while her employee told me another) she hung up on me. I called back and she refused to pick up. I could have absolutely came in for that massage and not made sure that the gift payment went through, and just took the services anyway, but in good faith and to be a good person, I made sure FIRST so that there wouldn't be any problems. The lady at the front desk even THANKED me and apologized. She was a really sweet lady. The manager of Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat is an absolutely vile person. Hanging up on me because I wanted to clarify the situation? Telling me I don't know how to read because I wanted to follow-up after being told I'd be allowed to reschedule? She got her money, yet she is throwing a temper tantrum on the phone because I wanted to iron out the contradicting information both her and her employee gave me. Word to the wise, Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat's masseuses might be good at what they do. I don't know and I don't want to know, moving forward. However, their customer service is absolutely horrible. Their manager is a spiteful, angry person. To add insult to injury, I was the one that reached out to her after I was told they would reach out to me. She said she called "three times" and that my voice mail was full. I believe in digital minimalism and I clean my voice mail box every evening so I know I didn't miss any important messages. I did not receive any voice mails from Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat and I also did not receive any missed calls from Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat. So, it's basically her word against mine. I also let her know that, given the benefit of the doubt that my empty voice mailbox was indeed "full," I asked her why she didn't try to just text me or send me an email since they do text reminders and they have sent me confirmation emails. She said it "wasn't her job" to help me understand how their policies worked. The whole situation with the manager of Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat was really shady. I'm not going to fight them on the fact that they charged me for a service I didn't even receive even though THEY told me I could just reschedule it due to the misunderstanding. Stay far far away from Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat.

A beautiful get away in Hillsborough! Treat yourself to a spa treatment but save enough time to enjoy the sauna and the steam. Or just hang out in the treetops on the deck in the best robe ever. I can't wait to book more time out there with friends.

Spent a lovely day here for a friend's bridal shower! The spa as a whole is beautiful, with every detail carefully thought out. I had a terrific massage, enjoyed the steam room and sauna, and really enjoyed just lounging on the porch with the breeze and the trees. I definitely recommend Hillsborough Spa & Day Retreat, for a short visit, but also if you are looking for a place to have a longer event or to spend time with friends and family. They will take great care of you!

This is a lovely spa. The environment is beautiful, the spa is perfectly decorated and appointed and the overall environment is very peaceful and relaxing. The sauna and steam room are very nice. The massage therapist was extremely gifted. And I was able to order a fantastic lunch and have it served on the comfortable outdoor patio for myself and my friend. The only downside - and the reason I'm not giving five stars - is that I was asked to leave early so that the cleaning staff could come in. Although the spa does not close until five, at 4:15 I was asked by the spa director to leave "since you got here so early.... I don't mean to be rude but..." I had planned to stay until closing so I was really disappointed and offended! I would have appreciated receiving this information at the start of my visit so that I could have planned accordingly. Additionally, after I came out of my massage around 2:30, the steam and sauna rooms had been turned off and had to be started again for me to use them and all the snacks had been put away. I've been to many spas but never made to feel as if I needed to hurry up and leave well before closing. Being treated this way did not leave me feeling valued and definitely counter-acted some of the relaxation I had gained during the day. It's unfortunate because otherwise I would have really looked forward to coming back to this lovely place often.

I’ve never been to a spa and day retreat so I was pretty excited to try this place out. Dara walked me through what was available and made me feel comfortable asking my first-time questions. She introduced me to the changing rooms, steam room, and sauna. Leigh was my massage therapist and did an amazing job. She sat with me at the start to explain what she was going to do and asked me some questions in order to give me the best massage. And it was great! For one hour I forgot that I was going through divorce and it was heaven! After the massage was done, she found me in the lounge area and again sat with me to make sure that I was relaxed and in good spirits. If I lived in the area I would be visiting this place again. The professionalism alone is well worth the money. I ended up spending about 2-3 hours there before I had to leave.

Little gem of a spa. Sarah is a wonderful massage therapist and the staff was so attentive. Best massage I’ve had in a long time. When I said I loved the banana chips in their trail mix, the owner gave me my own bowl to snack on after my massage. Super sweet and I felt pampered. 10/10 would recommend.

This is an intimate spa with highly skilled therapists and a welcoming staff. Definitely check out Jen for massage and Danielle for facials. They're both amazing at what they do and extremely knowledgeable about their crafts. With the steam showers and Infrared saunas, you can easily spend an afternoon here unwinding. I've looked around the Triangle and haven't found any place else I like half as much.

My wife and I enjoyed wonderful massages today at Hillsborough Spa, a gift from our son. The facility is comfortable and quiet, with a sauna, steam room, water, tea, and snacks. Mary and I each had a great massage therapist. In fact, Mary said this was the best massage she’s ever had on a first visit, responsive and skillful. We’ll be back!

My 2 hours spent at the spa and day retreat were relaxing, cozy and rejuvenating. The robes and slippers are so soft and feel amazing after using the saunas - which are clean, state-of-the art and have options for a more private experience. I really enjoyed the private steam sauna, as I was able to relax without any distractions. Just lounging in the main retreat room in my robe and slippers was great! With double doors opening to a sunny porch and the sounds of chirping birds, a yummy snack and drink bar with infused water and chamomile tea and large lounge chairs for reading and curling up with a good book... the retreat room by itself was a wonderful mid-week treat! I encourage everyone to go if you're looking for a day of pampering, stress relief, a "break from it all", a girls day or are simply in need of a massage or other spa treatment. Great experience and will be back!

Hillsborough Spa and Day Retreat is the convenient mini-vacation you're looking for. It's close to Mebane, Chapel Hill, and Durham, and you can make a day or half-day of it by adding on a yoga class at Hillsborough Yoga Company downstairs (owned by the same people, so you get a class discount when you make yoga part of your spa day) or by enjoying the trails of Hillsborough before you head in for relaxation. Compared to a spa day at some place like the Umstead, this is closer by and less pricey, for the same cushy comfort and many spa amenities. Here's what I really loved: it's SO tranquil. It's the perfect spot if you're looking for some time for personal reflection and retreat. I already have two more massage appointments booked here, and I can't wait to go back!
