Wonderful quaint salon! Staff was very accommodating, nice, and informative. Very nice dressing rooms with secure storage compartments, closed restroom, and steam room. Loved the complimentary coffee and pedicure scrub while we waited by the fireplace for our massage. Purchased a couples massage and was very relaxing. Highly recommend!

I came in for a haircut and what I got was nothing like what I had asked for. I asked for long layers and face framing with a U-shape in the back and even showed my stylist pictures of what I liked. I left with a blunt, straight cut with no layers and choppy face framing. I was in the salon for about an hour and a half, but it felt like my stylist spent most of that time blow drying my hair (it takes me 10-15 minutes max to blow dry it normally). I told my stylist I wanted layers to hopefully give my hair a bit more volume, but instead he just loaded my hair with product to give it volume. This was after I told him I rarely style my hair in the mornings and usually just brush it, so I'm not sure why he thought lots of product would be the solution for me. By the time he was done, there was so much dry shampoo in my hair I could barely brush it or run my hands through it and the scent was giving me a headache. When he was done and asked what I thought the face framing was very uneven between sides so I asked him to even it out, but didn't want to ask him to go back and put in the layers like I asked since he had done such a poor job already.

Great salon! Jacqueline was amazing and she did such a lovely job on my hair! She gave me a scalp massage with eucalyptus essential oil and it was a relaxing and amazing break for my busy day! And since i was cold a warm pillow while i got my hair done... she went far beyond to make sure I was comfortable!! The last 4 years I been looking for the right stylist and salon for me... well I found the place! Thank you Jackie! You made my day!

I live in Big Sky and was called less than 30 minuets before my appointment and was told my stylist was sick and had to cancel. (Did she not know this earlier in the day????) I was already in Bozeman just for this appointment along with my boyfriend was supposed to get his hair cut after me but the same women! I just would expect more from a senior stylists and better customer service from this spa.

I came here for a hair trim the other day, and Kacie did a fantastic job. She told me she’s only been cutting hair for two and-a-half years but she cut my hair better than previous stylists who say they’ve been cutting hair for 20+ years! She did everything exactly how I asked and was very nice and easy to talk with. I’ll definitely be coming back.

If you’ve never been to Canyon River Spa, it was the most amazing experience I’ve had from beginning to end!! The staff is amazing, the facilities are clean, comfortable, calming, and high class, and the service massage was one of the best I’ve had in Bozeman! Miranda did an amazing job and is highly recommended! Would strongly suggest for anyone looking to find a place to escape the day to day of life for a little bit!

Visiting my parents in Bozeman and wanted to treat my mom to a "mother/daughter" nail day... and a treat it was. We both got our nails done by Sierra, not only was she courteous and professional but she did a PERFECT job on our nails and gave the best hand massage! I'm definitely hooked, can't wait to try Sierra's hair services on my next visit to MT. As for the spa, the entire staff was welcoming, the facilities were clean, and everything else was grand.

I was in over a week ago to get my hair cut with Raina. I absolutely loved Raina and her sweet and bubbly personality and she did an amazing job with my hair. I had so much fun with her. Not worth it. The men's dressing room was one at a time so you had to wait your turn. The shower was also a steam room you couldn't turn off so it was over 100 degrees in the shower and steamy. I could barely breath. I had to leave the shower door open. The message was just OK. I would suggest going somewhere else.

Just had my FIRST salon day at canyon river spa. WOW. I've never felt so welcomed and comfortable in that environment (i am not girly whatsoever)... I had the pleasure of meeting Cordell, who trimmed my hair and made me look super fly! He was so sweet and very informative of the Aveda products. I thoroughly enjoyed being graced with his presence. We actually found out we shared multiple mutual friends! Cordell is officially MY hair stylist. He is such a natural and so passionate about his profession!! It was truly inspiring! I also met Jesse, who waxed my lip and brows. She is the cutest thing you'll ever see. She does an amazing job and is a self proclaimed minimalist. She did exactly what I asked and was extremely gentle. I previously went to Ulta and they are Darth Vader compared to Jesse. I walked out of the salon with a little redness, as expected with my sensitive skin.. But I didn't feel like I just had the first three layers of skin ripped off of my face like I used to feel at Ulta... there's absolutely no burning or tingling!! I can't even put into words how awesome this crew was today. Thank you so much for being so approachable and easy to talk to. I enjoyed every moment of our "Montana kids" story time. I will only go to canyon river spa from this day on!! <3

Had a horrible experience at this salon. My hairdresser gave me the worst "ombré" I have ever seen and when I asked to have it fixed she told me "she did exactly as I asked", proceeded to get extremely rude, and when she pulled the manager/owner I was then told I would have to pay the extra product cost to fix it. So I got charged $140 for a truly terrible ombré job and then charged $50 to fix it back to normal.

Donna is an excellent massage therapist. Definitely the best massage I've ever had. She did a great job of finding all the knots and areas of tension. I highly recommend her! On another note, the front desk staff weren't that friendly or welcoming. But other than that, a great experience!

I really debated whether or not this negative review should happen, as I like to give people the benefit of the doubt and simply take my business elsewhere if it isn’t a good fit. However, this experience was just not right. I called and spoke to someone who seemed really friendly about getting a haircut. I asked to please put me with someone with a lot of experience because I have thick hair and bangs that are a bit tricky. I was told my stylist was great and has been cutting hair for 8-10 years. Sounds great, right? I arrive for my appointment and instantly see my stylist is pretty young, but still give her the benefit of the doubt. First she did my brow wax, and I knew then that this wasn’t going well. I’ve had a lot of brow waxes before, and normally you walk away with nice clean lines and instantly look fresher. She left obvious patches of hairs intact below the brow line and didn’t even seem to notice. Just no attention to detail. I tried to point out an area that needed to be touched up, but I got home and still had to tweeze the heck out of my brows. I should have called it quits at that point, but what are you going to do, cut the service short and leave? We get started on the haircut and it seems she understands what I’m asking for, so I’m sitting there just hoping she will give me a somewhat decent cut. Within a few minutes of talking it turns out she has graduated cosmetology school 4-5 years ago, NOT 8-10. Not cool to lie to get someone’s business, Canyon River. Hearing this threw me off, so I made a comment about how I think a lot of hair stylists are just born with a talent for this sort of thing, because I’ve had excellent haircuts by people who weren’t that experienced, and she ACTUALLY says to me while taking scissors to my hair “Not me! My teacher actually told me they were worried about me when I started!” UM, what the what? After an awkward silence I jokingly/in disbelief said, “I’m assuming things turned out okay though?!” And she said yes, they said I turned out okay. Seriously, so unprofessional and just really made me uncomfortable. Suffice it to say, the haircut is not great at all :( I mean it’s not so bad I need to have someone else completely fix it, but you know when you’ve gotten a haircut that is just something you could have gotten at Great Clips. After doing my bangs she commented on how she made them thinner in the center, but at the start of the cut we had discussed liking my thicker bangs and I honestly think her cutting them that way was an accident rather than technique. I still for some reason feel bad giving a negative review, but I just think it’s worth sharing this time. Perhaps the spa section is different, but I would not recommend getting your hair done here.

I was very very disappointed with this salon. I don’t write reviews but this hit me. I went to get full head of highlights and left with partial of my top section done. I was only 5-10 min late and I still got charged $222 for something that I hardly noticed. She also charged me an extra $50 for a hair mask that I didn’t ask for. I went to Rustic Edge and Britt did full highlights for only $70! I do NOT recommend this place. The employees are very unprofessional. I was getting hair done and a younger guy from front desk and another stylist started playing with the purple hair from last hair cut. They made a unicorn from her hair and took pictures. I wanted to get proof but I was so disturbed.

I always recommend stress management that includes massage therapy. As the another saying goes practice what you preach. I have experimented with many different styles of massage therapy. All have their benefits, but I have had my best results with Thomas Schieffer and Shiatsu. Thomas’ skilled and comprehensive approach has personally given me significant relief and has alleviated many long-term ailments. Shiatsu is truly rejuvenating. Thomas is fantastic. GO!

My experiences at this salon were definitely above my expectations and hands down one of the best salon experiences I've ever had. The staff here was exceptionally friendly. I came here looking to make a big change by cutting a majority of the length of my hair off. I had a very vague idea of what I wanted but had no idea what to do since I'd never had my hair that short. Cordel worked with me to find a style that worked perfectly with my transition from long to short hair. I was also very nervous to make this change, and he helped relax my nerves before the big cut and talked with me the whole time which made the transition a very fun experience. The overall atmosphere of the salon is relaxing, and the staff is very interactive. I would highly recommend this salon to my friends/family. Also the products they use/sell are all natural, and they smell and feel amazing.

Our staff of 7 ladies went on a retreat here on a Friday morning. We were greeted by Sari (who was the nicest lady ever)! She asked what we would like - we were offered complimentary mimosas, coffee and tea! The ladies then went into the spa. We sat by the fireplace and each had a foot scrub, then went into our separate massage rooms. The massage therapists were all so wonderful, and they were very accommodating with each of our individual needs! While some of us were waiting on the other ladies, we were able to enjoy the luxurious, lavender steam room. This was a much needed treat for our team and we appreciated it so much! I would recommend Canyon River Spa to ANYONE looking for an amazing, relaxing time!

I've been twice and both times have been very disappointed. I've come in with pictures of exactly what I wanted and not gotten that either time. Afterwards when I've told them they didn't do what I asked and i wasn't pleased, they never tried to remedy their mistake, I still payed full price- which by the way is absolutely outrageously priced. I've gone to other aveda salons received exactly what I asked for, at about half the cost. Also, they took my jacket to hang up, which I have nothing against, but when my nice Patagonia gets taken, that's when I'm angry. I'm so dissapointed with this place, and they will NEVER have me as a customer again.
