I had heard a lot of good things about this place, but my most recent visit went HORRIBLY. First of all, I was scheduled to meet with stylist Keely on a Tuesday, so I arrived Tuesday (and waited 30-45 min), then was told that my stylist had made a scheduling mistake and I needed to come back Thursday. I work and go to school full-time so I don't have a lot of extra time, but I got over it because I've worked two jobs before and know the stress of double-booking yourself. BUT THEN I came back on Thursday and asked for a basic partial highlight. There were orange, brassy patches throughout my blonde hair, and because I had left the salon with wet hair, I didn't notice how bad my hair looked until my hair dried when I got home. Upon realizing how terrible my hair looked after spending close to $100, I texted Keely hoping she'd offer to fix it. I was then told by the stylist that I could come back IN A WEEK but she'd have to charge me another full color service (no offer to fix it for a discounted price or gratis which I think should've been offered!). After texting with Keely and being told pretty much 'too bad it's your problem now' (not a direct quote but a basic summary of her texts), I tried calling The Strand just to be put on hold and then hung up on (not surprised as I've read many negative reviews about the attitudes of the front desk ladies). This entire experience was frustrating and disappointing and I wasted a lot of time, money and tears. I'd definitely go to another salon, Columbia has tons!

terrible haircut as it was exactly what i told the hairdresser i did not want. new employee i’m guessing because she somehow cut my hair 3 inches too short. no refunds available for the exact opposite haircut i wanted. after i complained the hairdresser called me and told me she did a wonderful job, and basically called me a liar and that she “cut your hair much longer than you wanted”. terrible customer service would never recommend.

I've only been to The Strand a few times. The first time, I got a few highlights and they turned out great. The second time, I chopped off 16 inches so I could donate it. I really loved my new do. The last time I was very lucky. I was 15 minutes late because I wrote it down wrong, but the stylist was more than understanding. If I could, I would go there every month, but I'm trying to grow my hair out again. Maybe, I should get some color..... Hmmm.

I think changing spas has been one of the worst decisions I’ve made in a while. I mean the services here are just mediocre. The full body massage I got was just pathetic. I definitely regret paying so much for such an awful experience.

Firstly I don't usually post a negative review although the circumstances have led me to leave a realistic review that has resulted in legal action. Upon relocating to another salon the owners, Mitchell Farris and Christy Huggans refused my client list (which is not unlawful unless the client requests their stylists information which they knew). I worked here for almost 3 years and when I requested a meeting multiple times throughout the years with grievances, not only on my behalf but also my clients on how they were treated by others especially by desk staff it was always a problem. When I finally was able to schedule a meeting, I was faced with a 3 against 1, I was attacked verbally by both of the owners and their head of desk staff (Penny). When I arrived at the salon they had already packed my supplies for me and I noticed that some of my belongings were missing, some color brushes and a cord for my clippers, which they claimed that weren't there or lost within their supplies. I do not recommend this salon as they seem to do dirty business. I grew up in a police household and know what's right, wrong, and indifferent. I've also had multiple clients called from The Strand more than 3 times to reschedule their service with another stylist there even after cancelling and requesting my information, or receiving a botched service from a stylist which I corrected when they found my current salon. I'm not sure why these owners are compelled to behave the way that they do, I find it sad and deplorable especially as an "Aveda salon" even though they don't have the full Aveda color line. Multiple institutions and lawyers have been contacted to report their wrongdoings with picture proof.

I have been going to The Strand regularly for over 3 years and every time I have been more than pleased. Judy does a fantastic job on both my cuts and my coloring. I have also had a great pedicure from Yulia that lasted longer than any pedi I've had anywhere else. The front desk staff is always friendly and professional. I see people on here complaining about no same-day service. That's because this is a great salon and their stylists and spa personnel are in high demand and for good reason! All the professionalism and atmosphere of a top-echelon salon without the top-echelon cost.

I definitely gave these girls a hard time. I came in extremely last minute with a very bad hair day and they were more than willing to help. The staff is so nice and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are in a high-quality, expensive salon but it is very easy on your wallet. Being a first-time customer, I would definitely return.

Went in to get a quote for how much it would be to get my hair done and ended up waiting a total of 30 minutes with no one offering help. Instead the receptionist talked on the phone and a line of 5 or so guests were left waiting. When it was my turn the phone rang again and the receptionist answered and didn't even acknowledge me waiting there. I left without a single person asking me if I needed help.

My husband, son and daughter all go to The Strand for haircuts. Our stylist does a great job keeping our hairstyles with what is currently trending. She goes out of her way to make my daughters hair extra special each time we are there. The receptionists are always friendly and quick to help when I need to change an appointment. The facial and pedicures are so relaxing. I have sensitive skin and they went out of their way to apply products that wouldn't irritate my skin.

Professional salon where the stylists are up to date on current trends and color techniques. I went in for a cut and color with a picture from Pinterest. I found out what I wanted was a balayage. I honestly didn't even know what that meant exactly. Emily did a wonderful job. One week later I still love my new hairstyle.

I had never been here before, and i figured it would be a lot more expensive for how nice the atmosphere was when I first walked in. I met my stylist, Jen, and immediately felt very welcomed! I always color my hair, and I had never been so happy with a dye job. I was astonished by how cheap it was, and I can't wait to go back! Also, they offer all natural products that are so much better for hair/skin. Loved it.

Christy is awesome and does a great job. She gives good advice all along the way, from advice on styles to how to best keep your hair looking and feeling great. She's also fun to talk with. She is prompt and takes the time to make sure I'm satisfied. The other staff have also been very helpful. It's a bit pricey, but I always know I will be happy with the results.

I scheduled an appt. over email and that worked nicely. I told them I had extremely thick hair and that I wanted a cut and color. The establishment was great and the service started out awesome just what I would expect. This was my first time, I was previously going to Green Meadows before but my hair stylist left so I needed to find someone new and great. I did not find them here... My stylist was Wendy and in the consultation of what I wanted to do and what I was looking for she told me I had to either give up my color or my haircut. Which is ridiculous. That is what I scheduled why should I have to choose when I told you how thick my hair was it is not my fault if you did not schedule enough time. I compromised with a foil and cut. During the blow dry the receptionist came over and said her other appt was there. So she only dried my hair halfway (because it was so thick apparently). After spending $150 plus did because I'm not a jerk I was extremely disappointed, I had another hairstylist check out my hair later for a wedding I was in and she informed me my foil wasn't even done evenly. As a mom of two babies you ruined my experience and relaxation time which I take seriously. I will not be returning.

Well, I finally accomplished finding a superb hair salon & stylist right here in Columbia. The Strand and my hairstylist Keely are wonderful finds and I thank both for making me look & feel my best.

I've been going to The Strand for several years, and am extremely happy with their services. Shannon and Taylor are excellent stylists - both have consistently done a wonderful job of coloring, highlighting, and cutting my thick wavy hair. Yulia does the best pedicures and facials I've had in Columbia. You may have to book an appointment with her well in advance during the spring and summer - but she's worth it!

I loved going to this place because a particular hair stylist worked wonders on my hair. I have never had such an amazing hair stylist. He was responsive and cut my hair in accordance with my expectations. Recently, the salon called me to cancel an upcoming appointment because he no longer works there. They told me that they "will miss him." Later, I learned they fired him because he "was not a good fit" and for "poor work performance," the latter of which is untrue based on my experience with him. This business receives a "two star" rating because it's receptionists are rude and, moreover, were inconsistent about calling me to remind me of upcoming appointments -- which is critical for a busy working professional like myself. My stylist was the only reason I put up with the service problems. Since he is gone, I will not be returning to the Strand.

Quite possibly the worst spa pedicure experience I've ever had. The nail tech barely spoke, acted like she had never given a pedicure before - the gal working on my daughter was even watching as if she could tell it wasn't a good experience. Nothing was done to make it a relaxing experience. Not worth the money - many other spas that want to earn your patronage.

This place used to be a great place to go, not anymore. The front desk staff is horrendous and some of the other staff belongs in a kindergarten class. There is way too much negativity there now and I took my business to Regenerations spa and salon. They are much more personable and professional. I wouldn’t bring my dog to the Strand.

I went for a haircut, but seeing that they offer other services too like massages and foot spas, I decided to get a full body massage too after my haircut. It was the best. My back was kind of stiff after the haircut, so it was the perfect thing to do. The girl who did the massage was very good.

Christy Huggans (co-owner) cut my hair. I'm probably not the ideal customer from a stylists' point of view--- I went to her wanting a change, but without a picture or a specific haircut in mind. I gave her only some general ideas what I wanted (growing my hair out, want to look more pulled together and professional, feel like my face is too round, etc.). She asked thoughtful questions about how I typically do my hair in the mornings, how I feel about the natural wave in my hair, and then we decided together how to proceed. She has the confidence and listening skills of an absolute expert. As she cut and styled my hair, she gave me more tips and taught me more things about making my hair look good than any other stylist I have ever met. It was a really satisfying experience and I LOVE my haircut too. She really knows what she's doing! I won't be going anywhere else to get my hair cut after this. This is a very nice salon which is still quite affordable as well.

I WAS happy going here until I got in an argument with the person working the front desk. I needed to get a touch up on my roots, my hair had a peekaboo color in it so I needed two different colors applied and despite the fact that I was standing in front of them showing them my hair, they couldn't understand. Said that I couldn't make an appointment without first getting a consultation, which would have taken 2 weeks for that date plus god-knows how long for the actual appointment. THEN they told me that I had only been there once before because that's what they found in their database despite the fact that I know I'd been going there for almost 4 years. After a quick search, they discovered that every time I made an appointment, someone had just made a new entry for me instead of updating the original. As someone who works in marketing setting up databases for people, they really messed up. Not only have they not been giving me the best quality of service long-term, they also had the audacity to argue with me and gaslight me. And they lost a client.

I always have the best experiences with Yulia, and recently I had my hair cut there and it was just as wonderful. Everyone is so polite and attentive! My only issue is every time I go in, the lady at the front ignores me for at least 30-45 seconds before she ever speaks to me. I'll gladly wait, I'd just like an acknowledgement that she sees me. When she does speak to me, she is just as courteous and attentive as everyone else!

My all time favorite salon! I go to Aleigh for my hair, Jenn for my nails, and Laura for facials. Aleigh is so down to earth and very sweet. She will be honest with you on what will look good instead of just trying to get you in her chair like other salons I've been to. Aleigh has colored my hair twice and has knocked it out of the park every time. If you ever want balayage or blonde hair, I would 100% suggest Aleigh to anyone. Jenn has done my nails twice, tonight will be the third time. She is always so sweet and does a great job. She is super helpful when it comes to picking a color (I'm super indecisive) and has tons of options available. I'm usually not comfortable around new people, but I was instantly comfortable talking to Jenn and I'm super excited to continue getting my nails done by her. Last but not least, I got my very first facial by Laura and I'm so happy. I wasn't for sure what to expect, but it was so great. I had a lot of extractions to get through and she was so sweet and helpful during super painful extractions. If you want the most relaxing hour of your life, I would definitely suggest giving Laura a visit. My skin went through a healing process from all of the extractions, but now that I'm fully healed my skin looks amazing. If you made it through this extremely long review, you're a trooper. To sum this review up, I would suggest Aleigh, Jenn, and Laura to anyone and will continue suggesting The Strand to everyone I know.
