Super relaxing place for a massage. I had some pain last night and was able to schedule an appointment for the same day which is terrific. This place is in a very hip area and advanced appointments are a great idea because you could spend all day in this spa. Steve and Shannon have done a beautiful job with the location, the staff, concept and marketing of this place, bravi tutti! The pricing is great here, very reasonable and such a treat! Michael was very welcoming and professional, the check in and payment were smooth and easy. Tyler gave an effective body massage, with the specific goal of loosening up my left hip and I thank him for that! The sauna and steam shower were amazing, it's included with a massage and that's a big plus, which I wish we had at home! The locker room and housekeeping is impeccable, while lovely lounge areas are provided when you first arrive, and when you wait briefly before or between sessions. I drove and was able to park in their lot, which was helpful for me to arrive on time for my appointment. I was excited to find out that they have so many services available, from hair to facials, couples massages and way beyond. Thank you all, I will be back for some of those other treatments, more massages & steam showers!

What a disappointment! Sent an email to book appointments for my daughter’s birthday two weeks out. Had an email exchange of 11 messages back and forth confirming we wanted an hour each at the same time, preferred female therapists. My last email asked for manis and pedis....no response. Showed up Sunday morning on her birthday; announced to the staff that the birthday girl had arrived. Imagine our shock and disappointment when the staff couldn’t find us in the system. The woman I had exchanged emails with was standing there; said they would always need a credit card to book. She never asked for a credit card. Of course, there were no openings. The least I would have expected was a heartfelt acknowledgement of a mistake; knowing it was her birthday they should have offered a free complementary visit back another time. Not only did they ruin the day but this was the only present I had for her. We left and I contacted the woman again later in the day so as not to embarrass my daughter. No response. I then contacted the owner. He responded politely a day later that he was checking into the situation and would get back to me. Three days later, still no response. I’m done...too much competition in this space to put up with such poor service.

Enjoyed every minute of my 4 hour spa package. I'm nearly 7 months pregnant and they were able to accommodate and modify my package as necessary. I did the hydro bath, body scrub, rain shower, massage and facial. I left with my skin feeling and looking amazing. I even had a short break for lunch, fresh strawberries with cheese and crackers. Everyone was incredibly professional. Can't wait to go back!

Loud and abrasive esthetician that dragged a bloody paper towel over my mouth, stuck her finger in my eyeball to brace her hand up, sliced my face four times during Dermablade procedure. I got the run around VIA email and phone calls when I attempted to communicate my bad experience to management. They acted like they just didn't care, or that I was just complaining for no reason. I was shocked at the whole thing. I am super busy and was looking forward to this for months. I wasn't going to post online, but this really should be out there so people can know what goes on here. Front desk staff was delightful to work with though, they deserve some credit. It is not their fault the service and the management was bad. I ventured out of Parkville for service and I regret it!

Environment was both laid back and luxurious at the same time. I was kindly greeted by everyone I encountered during my time there. I received a scalp treatment, trim, mani, and a pedi. Andrew, who did my hair, was very knowledgeable but also kept my thoughts in mind. I felt very safe with my hair in his hands. Je'Ree, who did my nails, immediately became my best girlfriend. I am very picky about my nails and she gave me exactly what I like. To top it all off, the owner Steve, had a great presence in my whole experience. My best friend and I went on a Saturday for her birthday and it was amazing! We did the detox package and it was perfect. They obviously had other appointments but was never overcrowded and you very rarely saw anyone else. The staff was so helpful and made sure it was all about you! We brought our own wine and after every service they were right there to fill our glasses. I would recommend this place to everyone!

I went here with a Half Day Package Groupon that I received as a gift. When I walked in, I found several of the employees standing around the front desk gossiping. Not the best first impression. The man who showed me to each of my sessions & gave me the instructions on how things work was wearing a t-shirt with basketball shorts & socks with sandals & has ear buds in that were connected to his phone in his pockets. Felt like I was in a real classy place, not! The hydrotherapy & massage were both wonderful. Steam shower was way too hot! And then I got the worst gel manicure I've ever had. I left with my cuticles all tore up & hang nails on several different fingers. My polish didn't even last a week, and I regularly get gel polish from other places that lasts 3+ weeks. The woman who provided my nail services had long spike nails of her own that got in the way of me enjoying my service, & she didn't finish off the gel process correctly. Not to mention she had on a very low cut v-neck with all of her cleavage hanging out. Overall it just felt unprofessional.

Serene and calming experience. Quite a small boutique, yet still full service. I was amazed at all they had to offer in this small footprint of the spa. Hydrotherapy bath was nice, albeit a half hour gets a bit long. My massage was enjoyable. The eucalyptus shower after my massage was quite nice. The sauna was small but helped to unwind before the massage. Although in such tight quarters, my experience was quiet and relaxing.

Hands down the best spa day I've ever had. Extremely thorough and you definitely get your money's worth. The staff are absolutely pros at what they do, super friendly, and happy to explain new stuff I hadn't done before. The $300 VIP package takes more like five hours than four, so plan accordingly. It also comes with champagne or wine. :)

I recently received a 90 min massage at Spa on Penn and did not have a great experience. During my massage I felt the masseuse did not drape appropriately, making me feel very uncomfortable. I felt very exposed during the massage and felt somewhat violated. Also, I asked the masseuse to lighten pressure twice during the massage, which he did not do. I called the spa to provide this feedback, with no intention of receiving a refund or credit. I wanted to make sure that the issue was addressed so no customer was made to feel the way I did during their massage. I spoke with the owner, Steve. During this conversation he was very defensive and made me feel like this was my fault. He said I was being overly sensitive and thought it was bizarre that I was so upset. Steve was extremely rude. I will never return to Spa on Penn. Not because of the massage, but because of the experience I had with the owner. I love supporting local businesses, but when a business makes me feel the way Steve did, I cannot support them. I would discourage anyone from going to this spa.

I love this place. It is clean, friendly, and relaxing. They always call to remind about upcoming appointments and manage to run on time without infringing on the calming atmosphere. I first tried this place because of the sheer proximity to my apartment in Westport. I still make regular trips today- even though I moved out of the area 3 years ago. In that time I have seen it transfer to new ownership (about June 2014), and I am happy to say they have maintained the relaxing environment I love while breathing a new energy into the place. I love their decor displays pieces by local artists. I mostly visit to get massages and I would recommend trying Michael if he is available. He is attentive to whether he is delivering the right pressure and is committed to making sure you feel comfortable. Although I can’t review the other therapists from personal experience- I can tell you that I have taken my sister and boyfriend with me on different occasions, and they felt just as refreshed and restored as I did when we left.

This place is soooo relaxing. The staff are super professional. I was experiencing some back pain when I went in, that was not the case anymore when they were done. The place was very clean , the atmosphere was therapeutic, and they listen to your needs. Very upscale place to visit. I recommend this place for personal relaxation or even couples sessions.

Very disappointing!! My husband and I are from out of town and he wanted to treat me for my birthday. For our couples massage we had two gentleman (not a big deal) who did an okay massage. Felt like sandpaper was being rubbed across my back. Barely did a "massage" but more of a patting. The oil or whatever they used was watery and not soothing at all. I actually felt very itchy afterwards which is disappointing seeing as you're supposed to be relaxed. The guy I had stood so awkwardly that I felt his junk rub on my arm. Then for my manicure the women who seemed confused and inexperienced didn't know what to do with my nails and instead of going through whatever was going to happen I told her I was done and wanted to leave. This place is called a spa but was far from one. None of the employees seemed to have any experience but did the bare minimum to be called a spa. Would never return. An awful experience, over priced and not a great start to our vacation.

I've had a fair number of massages in my life, but I can honestly say that I've had the best massages of my life here. I've been three times and I will definitely be back. I had shoulder surgery after a break in September and have been on a slow path to recovery ever since. My physical therapist said that she could see an improvement between when I saw her on Tuesday to when I saw her today (Thursday of the same week) after I had a massage with Michael on Wednesday. As if a wonderful massage wasn't enough, the atmosphere and decor are great. I love the brick walls, warm calm lighting,and local art work. The staff at the desk have been absolutely delightful. Using the dry or wet sauna or the rain shower (complete with nice shower products) after is a wonderful touch. The dressing room also is equipped with comfy robes, brushes, hair dryers, and curtained areas for the modest types. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Emily has cut my hair twice now and has made me feel comfortable both times. The second time she did it complimentary because I wasn't completely satisfied with the cut the first time. I have curly hair and have had horrible experiences getting my hair cut before and therefore have gone years without getting my hair cut. Emily made me feel so comfortable and assured me that she would work with me and my hair until we got it right. She's amazing!

As far as booking an appointment, you are much better off going old school and using your phone to call in. If your appointment isn't confirmed via a real phone call, you don't have a booking anyway. This place is definitely the place to go if you are looking for professional indulgent and high class. The location is discreet which I love, the parking is close and reserved for you, the atmosphere is modern and understated and the staff seem well trained and accommodating without being overly friendly (not Disney world folks). DALTON QW is everything I want and need in a stylist. I have been to versions stylists not only all over the city but in fact all across the nation and he is by far the best. He takes his time, listens, helps you confirm your selections and adds his own personal touch while being 100% transparent and efficient. If you can book him, I would. If you can't, well that's unfortunate (kidding). The place is great and if you are looking for a brilliant colorist and great stylist then I highly recommend you try an appointment with Dalton. Also, they offer new world class treatments, colors and styles. I give this place the best rating possible.

My wife and I both see Emily, and I wouldn't go to another stylist in KC. I have thick, curly, medium-length hair & a sideshave, which comes with its own bag of tricks. For me, finding a stylist is a little like going on a blind date -- it's hard to find the right fit because not everyone can work with my hair. When Emily works her magic, I'm always happy. She even cut my mom's (Samoan) hair when she was in town, and my mom still says it was the best cut she's ever had in her life. She's also just a good human, so there's that. I could sing her praises all day, but I'll just say this - if you want a master stylist who knows her stuff, book with Emily.

I lovvvveeeddd my haircut! Emily was wonderful and passionate about her career which made the experience and the end product great! She touched up my ombre and gave me a real trim and bangs. She made sure I was comfortable with everything before she did it and she gave me exactly what I asked for. She was pleasant and fun to talk to also. She also provided drinks and magazines during the bleach wait. The entire spa and staff were really very professional and nice.The whole experience was wonderful and I would and have recommended this place (and especially Emily) to everyone!

I would give no stars if I could. My husband and I went for a couples massage and the entire experience was poor. We went in for a 90 minute massage and they only gave us a 75 minute massage. Just and I’m sorry at the end. Both of the massage therapist did not seem interested and had poor techniques. The locker room was so small, we were tripping over each other to get undressed. We will never go back.

When I walked in I thought this would be an amazing Spa. However I was wrong. I called Spa on Penn on a Saturday & spoke with one of the employees at the front desk & asked about the “Day on Penn” package. I was informed that one part of the package would be a Hydrotherapy treatment & he informed me that that meant you would get in a jet infused tub. A 60 minute facial, sauna & Glow N Flow. My mother’s day gift was this package, she came in that following Tuesday at 4:45. When she was all finished I called her asking how it went. She never described the hydrotherapy treatment so I asked her if she ever got in a tub or literally any form of water besides the shower & that she never even heard “hydrotherapy treatment”. When she told me no I immediately called back. I told the front desk how upset I was to hear that their employees couldn’t complete a package deal that I had paid for. I’m not rich, I worked hard to save for that money for her to be able to have a Mother's Day Gift. This was the first year I have been able to buy her something special so I was hoping the workers at Spa on Penn would understand why I want a full refund. I also got there after she had started her package to make sure everything went smoothly & dropped off some clothes for her to change into. I asked to buy a bottle of champagne for her & the girls at the front desk said they already had a bottle open & told me they could give her that one; no problem. When I asked again to make sure that was ok they reassured me she would get the champagne. However she didn’t. Wasn’t even offered. I may have been a little less upset if things with Shannon, one of the owners went a little better. But it didn’t. When I called on May Tuesday the girls at the front desk were very apologetic & sweet, they told me their manager was on the phone with Shannon the owner & that Shannon would call me at noon the next day to figure things out. The next day comes around & I never heard anything. So around 2 pm I called & ask to speak with her. When she answered the phone she gave me biggest lie in the book after I reminded her how she was supposed to have called me at noon; “I was just about to call you!”. She was extremely rude, had no interest in actually wanting to help the situation & quite frankly if it was my business I’d do whatever to keep the customers around & happy to spread good reviews to their friends. But that wasn’t the case she offered a credit for a new hydrotherapy but this was a package it was the whole experience one after the other. But the worst part is she & the other owner Steven really lied to me and told me my mother was offered the hydrotherapy treatment & my mother declined. I would not be wasting my time if that was the case &it was quite insulting to me & my mom. Especially when Steven the owner said a credit of a full bottle of champagne is all they can do & no refund.I do recommend Spa on Penn.

I was given a 'A little bit of everything' package from my husband for Christmas. I was able to redeem it recently. Everyone on staff was courteous and welcoming. My only complaint was in almost all relaxation areas you will hear the footsteps from the floor above. Along those lines I paid extra to have lunch delivered. The 'lunch' sitting area was above the receptionist desk so I unfortunately heard their conversations while staffers walked back and forth around my table. These issues were not terrible, it was just not what I had imagined. The tub soak was wonderful (I wish I could have stayed in there for my entire time) the shower sauna was great but I found it a bit boring. My massage was AMAZING and I wish I could remember who gave it to me. I believe Amanda did my facial and my express mani/pedi. She had a great personality which made both of these things go great. To be honest I had never had any of these services before and I feel like it was a great experience for the Groupon price.

Overall, was a relaxing experience. Did the "little bit of everything" groupon that was gifted to me for my birthday. Included the hydrotherapy tub which was pretty lame but the massage, pedicure, and facial were all great and soothing! The set up of the spa is a little awkward and you have to go between upstairs/downstairs during various treatments. The locker rooms are also small and not so clean. However, the people are friendly and helpful.

While I have been going to Spa on Penn for 5-10 years now, I believe that is enough time to provide an accurate review. EXCEPTIONAL!!! Every city needs to have a spa like this. The spa sits in the middle of action packed Westport. But once you walk through the doors, you are taken into an oasis of peace and tranquility. The staff is professional and friendly. The spa is spotless (even the dressing rooms, which can get funky in some spas or gyms). It smells wonderful, the lighting and music are perfect. Beverages are offered throughout your services. I go mostly for massages and just went for the first time for a wax. Stacy was incredibly professional, with just the right amount of humor, making it the most comfortable wax experience I have ever had. Her knowledge and skill level is top of the line and thorough. For massages I usually see John. He is excellent for deep tissue work, quiet (I prefer no talking), and I always leave with a bit of a "massage buzz." The dry sauna is one of my favorite things about this place. I have used some of the other hydro/light type therapies, and they are clean clean clean and relaxing. But the dry sauna is my absolute favorite. It has been there for so long, but is still in such excellent condition. Years ago, I had a massage that I was not very happy with (not John) and the management invited me back to try with someone else which I thought was very good business, which is why I have continued to go back. Great staff, great management. Oh, and there is art all over the walls which is so beautiful.

I saw Jessica today for a brow shape/wax and tint and oh my goodness I am so so happy! She did a fantastic job about asking what exactly I was looking for mixed with what she recommended and then making exactly that come to life. During the appointment she answered so many of my skincare questions and was so down to earth. I can’t wait to book a facial with her and keep her as my esthetician!

The gentlemen at front desk was very professional and friendly both in person and over the phone. Me and my girlfriend booked 2 facials at the same time which we assumed would be done together in same Room however they were not which was disappointing. The facial I got was in a somewhat lit up Room which was not very relaxing. The technician was also somewhat talkative (although very nice), rushed and rough not sensual which made it not very relaxing however she did a wonderful facial/mico-plating and I was glowing when I left. I would recommend if you're wanting something more relaxing to go somewhere else. I feel for the price I should have been wined and dined and been in heaven.

The front desk lady had the 3 of us go sit in the waiting room with paper work to fill out. She completely ignored me after I sat down and offered water to the couple, poured them a glass and left the room. Once I finished my paperwork I brought it back to her. That didn’t stop her from carrying on her conversation and briefly telling me to have a seat. Once she was ready she grabbed all three of us and showed us downstairs. I really felt awkward getting shown the facility with another couple as we approached the tiny locker room she was trying to explain the process but I couldn’t hear much since I was standing behind two people. She hands me my bag and that’s when the experience begins. Once changed into robe and slippers you have the option to sit in the waiting room or the dry sauna I went to the waiting room where there was one seat left and it felt a little elbow to elbow and there was no cups for water just a bunch of used glasses. The spa attendant who was such a polite gentleman showed me to the first experience I told him about the water and her personally brought me a cup with water. After my first experience the waiting area had all new clean glasses which made me excited as the bath made me extra thirsty. I sat in the dry sauna between experiences and it was so loud and very creaky like plastic wood benches, not very serene. Two other women joined who kept laughing and not being respectful of the zen we are all trying to experience. (Maybe add a sign) I walked into the locker room to take of my Apple Watch off and my key opened someone else’s locker I was mortified and locked it back up. My locker was the next one over. The massage was amazing she was so attentive and had such a calming voice. My facial was phenomenal she seemed really young but she knew what she was doing! I give the massage and facial a 10/10. Lastly my mani/pedi I really like her she had a wonderful personality and kept the conversation lively. Overall I had a great experience and I would come back again. My review is to point out some things the spa can be in control of and some things guests should be aware/control of.
